We had an excellent guide and cook. Joe, the guide, had remarkable knowledge of the plants, animals, and local peoples and customs, and was very forthcoming on providing information to make our trip more interesting. Also, he gave us options on varying the safari itinerary as we went to improve our chances of seeing those aspects of interest to us. Overall, an excellent safari, thanks to the guide and cook.

My wife and I recently went on safari with Asili. The range of companies and options is slightly bewildering when booking a safari but I personally thought that Joe was really helpful and super friendly in tailoring a safari to our intentions and budget so we settled upon going with them on a 3 day private safari to Lake Manyara, Ngorogoro Crater and Tarangire, including airport transfers and staying in a mid range lodge. We decided the Serengeti was a bit far to include in a 3 day trip. This proved the right decision for us as the above itinerary was perfect for 3 days with minimal travel between the parks.
Our driver was Evans. He was great company, looked after us so well, and was a pleasure to spend time with. He was very friendly, humble and liked to laugh and joke. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the wildlife and conservation. And he has eyes like a hawk. He could see things clearly that we had trouble spotting with binoculars. We went at the beginning of March with the vegetation quite lush and thick so you have to be more vigilant and lucky to spot the animals than in the dry season.
But spot them we did. Aside from leopards we saw all the big 5, and apart from a far off rhino, we got incredibly close. We were surrounded by elephants at Lake Manyara. We could practically pet giraffes in Tarangire and the floor of the crater was carpeted with grazing animals and newborn calves all around us. But one of the many highlights was being able to follow a successful hunt by 2 lionesses from contemplation to the capture of a warthog. Evans said we were extremely lucky and saw about as much as on a 7 day safari, and this in the start of the wet season when the animals are more scattered.
Each day had a new and distinct source of amazement for us. The trip exceeded our expectations. The customer service was fantastic. Our jeep seemed a bit older than some of the new models but we had 4 seats for 2 where others had 6 seats all taken, so we could spread out like business class! There were plenty charging points and a fridge but no WiFi, which we heard is an option on some jeeps. Hardly a draw back as uploading photos can wait a day or two. Once you do you will make your friends back home sick with jealousy. We have some amazing shots just with our iPhones. But get yourself a decent pair of 10x40 binoculars and you will not miss a thing. We even took some great shots with phones looking through the binoculars.
In summary we had an unforgettable safari experience and we feel very privileged to have been so close to the animals. We were extremely well looked after by Evans and we would not hesitate to recommend Asili for such a safari.
For most people an African safari is an expensive business no matter what budget you go for, but it is fantastically worthwhile. Be aware that if you take the option to visit a Masai Village that this is an important source of income for the village and it will be hoped that you can spend some of your tourist dollars there on the trinkets and crafts items they sell, at more than you would normally expect to pay. We were happy to oblige as we had a lovely experience there but if you are watching your budget closely then it is something to consider.
And tip your driver! They work hard to make this the best experience it can be. At least that is what Evans did for us.
I hope that helps, both future adventures and Asili.
