Five-Star Luxury African Safari Trip
May 2021 • Couples
Soul of Tanzania, and its sister company Spirit of Kenya, were amazing. We did a 12 day, 11 night tour of Kenya and Tanzania and booked with Spirit of Kenya. We started in Nairobi and traveled to Amboseli National Park, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Crater, Serengeti National Park, and Masai Mara National Park. Spirit of Kenya and Soul fo Tanzania did an amazing job from the point we arrived in Nairobi to the point we departed Nairobi. We had private drivers/guides throughout the whole trip. When we arrived in Nairobi, Moses, was waiting to pick us up and transport us to our lodge in Nairobi (Karen Gables Guesthouse). The next day, Moses took us to get our COVID tests to go to Tanzania. He also showed us around Nairobi, and we visited the Nairobi Safari Walk an Giraffe Center. In Amboseli, our driver was Nesta. He was amazing. He is so knowledgeable about the park and tailored each day to our needs. Nesta then transported us to the Tanzania border where our next driver/guide, Enock was already there waiting for us. They both made sure we completed all proper immigration and custom formalities (and COVID test) and guided us through the whole process. We were with Enock for the next 7 days in Tanzania. Enock was such a delightful and wonderful guide. Again, just like Nesta, he made sure each of our days were tailored to our needs. We really wanted to see Cheetahs in the Serengeti and Enock went out of his way to track down the cheetahs. We were on a part of the Serengeti were there were no other vehicles. We saw not one, but two Cheetahs. I don’t think we would have seen the Cheetahs if it was not for Enock’s superior knowledge of the various game drive routes and the areas were Cheetahs are known to frequent the area. After the Serengeti, Enock drove us to the border back to Kenya, where our last guide, Shuma, was waiting for us. Again, the customs and immigration formalities were seemless and Enock guided us through the whole process. Shuma was our guide in Masai Mara. He is so knowledgeable about the Masai Mara Reserve. As usual, Shuma let us tailor each day’s itinerary and game drive. We had seen all but the Rhinos up to this point, so we told Shuma we really wanted to see the Rhinos. We got a brief glimpse of them on the first day, but there are so few Rhinos in the park that it is really difficult to find them. Shuma tried each day and, after driving around for nearly two hours the various Rhino areas, we finally found them (a mother and a baby) and got a up close view of them (15 yards away!). There were no other vehicles in the area and feel that Shuma’s knowledge of the reserve was instrumental in us finding the Rhinos. When our flight from Masai Mari to Nairobi arrived, Moses was once again waiting for us. He took us to get our COVID tests for our flight home and then transported us our hotel for the night. The next day, he transported us to the airport. I cannot say enough good things about Spirit of Kenya and the Soul of Tanzania. They were really amazing. All of our lodges and camps were 5-star. In Amboseli, we stayed at the Ol Tuki Lodge. In Tarangire, we stayed at Nimali Tarangire. In Ngorongoro, we stayed at the Sanctuary Ngorongoro, in Serengeti we stayed at the Four Seasons Lodge, and in Masai Mara we stayed at the andBeyond Kechwa Tembo Camp. Spirit of Kenya and Soul of Tanzania let us select each lodge/camp and did not force any specific lodge/camp on us. However, our salesperson, Tiago, gave us insights about each lodge/camp so that we could choose the lodge/camp that suited our needs. Again, I would definitely book with Sprit of Kenya and Soul of Tanzania again. They are just as good as the big name tour companies such as A&K, Ker Downey, etc. (but at a much more reasonable price). Thank you to Spirit and Kenya an Soul of Tanzania for an unforgettable African Safari. Special thanks to Tiago, Nesta, Enock, Shuma, and Moses. We will miss each of you and will never forget your top-notch service and support.

An Amazing Safari Adventure!
Jan 2021 • Family
Our tour was amazing! Our driver/guide was on time, very kind, knowledgeable and took us to see most of the wildlife that we wanted to see with the exception of lions and hippos. I believe they were hiding from us on that day. LOL. Visiting Africa was a dream come true for me at the tender age of 51 and my daughter enjoyed it as well.

Dear J4088KPsheilad, Thank you so much for the sweet words :) We're happy that despite being a one day tour you were able to see most of the wildlife you wanted to see. Yes, lions and hippos were probably shy that day :D

8 day safari adventure with 4 day beach holiday
Nov 2019
We worked with our travel adviser (Helena) to create a custom itinerary. We had some complexities to factor in with our schedule and adding on our daughter to our trip - who was traveling separately. Helena worked with us to craft the perfect schedule and made sure our daughters travel and lodging arrangements worked with the itinerary.

Our tour started with a 1.5 days in Arusha at a very nice B&B, followed by 8 days of game drives - Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti. After our game drives, we spent 4 lovely days in Zanzibar at a great resort.

I have to give this company (and all the supporting vendors) 5 stars. Every detail was accounted for and well communicated. The tour guide was awesome, very knowledgeable, and very flexible. Our accommodations were first class in every detail. The hospitality was top notch.

When we go again, we won't bother looking at another tour company - SOT did a wonderful job at a reasonable price. My family had a vacation we will never forget. Thank you SOT!

Dear jparliament, Thank you for choosing Soul of Tanzania :) Helena is an amazing professional - she's always eager to help our guests. Without her careful and thoughtful planning, the safari experience wouldn't be the same. We are very glad that all worked just fine! We will be more than happy to have you back whenever you wish to return.

An EPIC safari adventure!
Oct 2019
My mother and I recently returned from a 2 week safari tour organised through Soul of Tanzania, beginning in Kenya and then continuing on through Tanzania, and ending with a 3 day trip to Zanzibar.

I contacted numerous safari operators while planning this trip and chose Soul of Tanzania as they were the most prompt and detailed in their replies and also as they were more than happy to assist with personalising a private safari experience for 2, as I already had a rough itinerary worked out of places I wished to visit.

I dealt with Sandy over the 4-5 months prior to the trip, and through over 60+ emails, she was absolutely wonderful - replies were very prompt, no question went unanswered and the level of detail and flexibility in the planning process was second to none.
Planning a safari experience, particularly if it is a first-time one, can be daunting, especially if you have never visited Africa and are not entirely sure of what to expect, but the level of assistance I received from Sandy ensured the trip was the most memorable I have ever had.
Additionally, even though it was a private safari, costs were relatively similar if not lower than numerous other companies I contacted who were not able to cater for my specific itinerary.
Our only hiccup was that the bank transfer for the balance of our trip bounced back while we were already in Africa, and it was a bit of a hassle and also more expensive to have to pay via credit card, particularly as a lot of the more remote accomodation has very limited internet access.
The only advice I have here is that Soul of Tanzania need to make clear in their contract that the balance of the payment MUST be made one month prior to commencing the trip if making via bank transfer. This was not made completely clear in the contract and therefore we were charged a fee.

We visited the Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks.
In the Maasai Mara in Kenya we were looked after by our wonderful guide Solomon, from Spirit of Kenya. From the first game drive, where Solomon took us to a lone male lion, who stood right next to my window and looked me straight in the eyes before walking slowly away, to the last drive in Tarangire where we were the only car to witness a leopard feeding in a tree next to us, we not only saw the Big 5, but such a variety of wildlife and birds that I never even knew existed!

In Tanzania, we were looked after by Dominick “Schumacher”, our modern Maasai! Dominick is incredible - a wealth of knowledge about every animal and bird around, as well as the national parks and Tanzania in general. He is very passionate about conservation and about his work and it really shows. Not only did we learn so much about the wildlife, but about Tanzania and its rich history and culture, especially the Maasai.
Dominick’s driving skills were pretty awesome, and even the daily Tanzanian massage wasn’t an issue for either my mother or I, especially me, who normally suffers from motion sickness!
I am a very keen photographer, and every day Dominick ensured that I had the best vantage points for excellent photo opportunities, he was accomodating for all manner of requests and questions, emergency toilet breaks, he seemed to have Spiderman senses to see and know where every animal would be, or where they would end up if they disappeared and he ensured that our safety and comfort was top priority at all times.

We chose mid-range accomodation during our safari, which was all excellent and which I would actually rate as on the high end when compared to many other accomodations I have stayed at around the world over the years.
Our accomodation in the Maasai Mara was in Ilkeliani Lodge, a beautiful tented camp looked after by the Maasai, where on our first night we had an exciting visit not only by an elephant but by a lion nearby! Our Maasai guards made sure all was safe and I can’t recommend Erik, our Maasai guide at the camp highly enough. Erik took us to a nearby Maasai village, where we were welcomed and shown around and he also took us on a walking tour to teach us about the land and plant life in the Maasai Mara.

The Serengeti Sopa Lodge was a large and very accomodating lodge, made all the more special by the beautiful staff, especially in the restaurant, who on finding out that it was my mother’s birthday during our trip, planned a surprise cake and had all the staff in the restaurant perform a traditional African song and dance for her on our last night there!

At Ngorongoro, we stayed at the wonderful Serena Lodge, which has the most incredibly breathtaking views I have ever seen.
The Ngorongoro Crater is a wonder that nobody travelling to Tanzania should ever miss - a feast for the eyes and the soul.

The Escarpment Luxury Lodge at Lake Manyara was not only the cheapest of the accomodation we had, but it was definitely the most luxurious - it was quite incredible, with stunning sunset views over the lake. It’s only very minor drawback was that it was the only place where I actually needed to use insect repellant!

In Zanzibar, we stayed at Dream of Zanzibar, on the North East coast. Zanzibar was the perfect way to end this trip of a lifetime, with beaches and water to die for!
While the beach is supremely beautiful, you will encounter numerous Maasai trying to sell you their wares and offering trips, and though I became friendly with many of them and had quite a laugh with them, it was quite a full on experience for some of the other hotel guests!
Zanzibar was definitely the most commercial and most ‘’Western’’ part of our trip, with the accomodation, amenities and experiences on the island catered to tourists, but nevertheless we were extremely well looked after and had a wonderful and relaxing time.

Asante sana to Sandy at Soul of Tanzania, Solomon in Kenya and Dominick in Tanzania for making this trip of a lifetime an absolute 5-star experience!

Dear Tinche18, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such detailed review :) Sandy is an amazing Journey Designer, she will go above and beyond to guarantee that all doubts are cleared and all wishes tended. The planning is just as important as the trip, that's why we take it so seriously. And then, with the help of our magnificent guides, the safari comes to life! We are 100% convinced that without the fantastic work of professionals like Solomon and Dominick the safari experience wouldn't be the same. We will make sure to forward your kind words to all the Soul of Tanzania team!

We were very well taken care of!
Sep 2019
Our trip was a family trip consisting of 3 adults. My mom had booked the tour with Mei Ling, who was super helpful. I had emailed her with a whole bunch of questions thereafter, which she responded to very quickly, patiently and kindly.

The drivers who picked us up and dropped from Kilimanjaro airport were very nice and helpful. Alex shared with us many animal facts and we were delighted by his passion.

Our tour was 6 full days + the morning of the 7th day, including Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti. Due to the limited timing of flights, we stayed in Arusha 1 night before and 1 night after the safari tour. As we moved north each day on the safari, we stayed in 3 or 4 different hotels/lodges/camps and were pleased with the accommodations we chose (Soul of Tanzania gave us several choices at each stop).

If you are thinking about the duration of safari, I think 6+ days was great, and the min. I would recommend is 4 days.

Our driver and safari guide Living was amazing, he could spot animals from far far away! He is a really nice guy, took very good care of us, and all of us really enjoyed his company. There were 2 days towards the end of our trip where the rain really poured down, making the roads very muddy and difficult to drive on. We were extremely impressed with his driving skills, and also very touched he did not hesitate to help other fellow Land Cruisers who were stuck in the mud.

I highly recommended Soul of Safari!

Once in a lifetime experience! Mei ling from Soul of Tanzania was very helpful with planning our trip, booking accommodations etc. Pickup from the airport was very smooth. We did a 7 day safari tour around Tarangire, Seregeti and Ngorongoro. Our tour guide, Said, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and made our trip very informative and fun at the same time. He was accommodating and flexible with our schedule, and we saw almost everything that was on our bucket list. Hot lunch and accommodation were awesome. Overall a really amazing experience!

5- Day Safari!
Sep 2019
We did a 5-day safari through the Soul of Tanzania in Sept 2019, and it was absolutely everything we imagined it would be! We visited Tarangire National Park the first day, then Ngorongoro Crater for a day, then the Serengeti for 2 days, and ended with a day at Lake Manyara. There was quite a bit of driving between the parks, as they’re all a few hours apart, but we felt like we got a taste of everything. We feel it was the perfect way to see as much as possible in the short amount of time we could spare.

James was our private tour guide the entire trip, and he was awesome! He was very knowledgeable about all the different wildlife and ecosystems. He answered every single question we asked (even those about the culture, government, and history of Tanzania) and provided colorful information as we were watching animals in their natural habitat. I don’t know how he did it, but he was able to spot animals from very far distances as he was maneuvering the jeep through very bumpy roads. (By the way, if you get car sick or motion sick, this may not be the trip for you. The roads are ROUGH, but as James liked to say, we were just getting a free African massage ☺). The jeep was very clean and well maintained. The top popped up so that you could stand and see all around you. If you have good balance, I recommend standing the whole time even while they are driving, as the extra couple of feet of elevation really gives you a better view.

I know the wildlife sightings will be different for every trip depending on what’s around, but we literally got to see every animal we wanted to see: giraffes, elephants, lions, zebra, gazelle, wildebeest, cheetah, hippos, hyena, leopards, and even one rhino! James was great at knowing where to look for specific animals and gave us plenty of time once we spotted them to take pictures and observe. It really was amazing to see these animals out in the wild!

All of the accommodations were great - get ready to experience some rustic camps. All of the lodges had some sort of running water, but some had showers outside that required someone to heat up water and pour it into the canvas shower bag when you’re ready to shower. I thought this was great, but it was a little nerve-wracking to shower outside in the dark as wild animals were lurking around. Quite the experience! Most places had mosquito nets and bug spray available to use. All places required you to walk with a guide after dark to make sure you didn’t get attacked by any wildlife. Like I said, it was very rustic.

Overall it was an absolutely amazing trip. If you want to experience an authentic safari, I 100% recommend booking through the Soul of Tanzania. They were very professional and flexible with whatever itinerary we wanted to do. They also made sure to confirm the entire schedule with us before we left on the first day to ensure we were going to get what we paid for. Oh and I have to mention the food – we had hot lunches every day, served on a tablecloth and with wine. It was a nice touch to an already perfect trip. We had the trip of a lifetime and would definitely book again through Soul of Tanzania if we ever return!

Adventure of A lifetime
Sep 2019
My husband and I just came back from the most wonderful trip in our life! It was truly the trip of a lifetime! We did a 13-day safari with Soul of Tanzania and we were very impressed with their services. During our trip, we visited Tarangire National Park (2-day), Lake Manyara (2-day), Serengeti National Park (6-day), Ngorongoro Crater (2-day) and Lake Eyasi for the tribes visit.

Initially I sent out inquiries to a few tour organizers and ultimately picked SOT because of their efficient and professional responsiveness. Sandy was extremely helpful in her emails and super patient😊 with my (many many) questions.

We loved all the lodges and camps that we stayed in and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our favorite were Nimali (for Tarangire National Park) and Sanctuary (for Ngorongoro Crater). The breakfast with elephants drinking water right in front of you in Nimali was unforgettable.

The other great thing that separates Soul of Tanzania from the rest of safari tour operators is the signature hot lunches. Each day, our guide Solomon would set a nice table with table cloths, plates and cutlery. Each meal included hot dish with meat and vegetable; rice or pastas; salad and fruits; coffee or tea with cookies; drinks of your choice including wine. We loved it! Unfortunately, some of the lodges / camps that we stayed at were not able to provide hot lunches. We were told we would have to pay extra $45 per person if we really wanted the hot dishes. In the end, we had to go with the pre-packed cold lunch boxes.

The amount of wildlife that we saw far exceeded our expectations. We saw a few lion families, lion kill, lion mating, cheetah families (mother with 4 cubs), leopards, buffaloes and rhino; numerous elephants, giraffes, hippos, antelopes (different types), hyenas, warthogs, baboons, wildebeests and zebras, etc. We were also lucky enough to witness the GREAT Migration over the famous Mara river (thousands of wildebeest and zebras crossed the Mara river while attacked by crocodiles).

We did a balloon flight over central Serengeti and it was spectacular. The champagne breakfast which followed the ride in the middle of the Serengeti was amazing as well.

We would also like to express our sincere thanks to our guide, Solomon (aka Solo or the King of Jungle). He was kind, witty and super knowledgeable about mammals and especially birds. He was also very willing to share his African culture and wildlife information. I learned a lot about animals and Tanzania from Solo over the two-week safari trip and we really enjoyed our time with him. He always tried to find the best spot for animal viewing and taking photos. At the end of each day, he went through with us the schedule of next day’s safari and even worked with the lodge / camp staff to ensure that our next day’s lunch was properly prepared for us. Solo can also speak fluent Spanish and Italian, so make sure you request him as your guide if you would like someone who can speak those languages.

We highly recommend Soul of Tanzania and Solomon to anyone thinking about a safari trip in Tanzania!

Dear Bumjeejump, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed and helpful review! Not only to us but also to everyone thinking of coming to Tanzania. There are so many things you mentioned that indeed differentiates us from the competition, like the hot lunches, amazing customer support, ... But we have to admit that the real stars are the guides! Solomon is one of our "brightest stars" - a truly amazing professional :) His passion for Tanzania and wildlife really shines through and passes on to everyone around him. No wonder he left such a great impression! Once again, thank you for recommending Soul of Tanzania!

Amazing safari, phenomenal guide/driver, and hot lunches!
Aug 2019 • Friends
My brother and father had a 7 day safari with Soul. We contacted 3-4 of the top tour companies on trip advisor and they came out on top for communication, itinerary, flexibility and price.

We landed at Kilimanjaro Aiport and had our first night at Arusha Villa (see seperate reviews for accommodation). The driver, and tour organizers provided a briefing before the trip and importantly confirmed what was (and was not) included. It was good to do this all at the outset.

We travelled to Tarangire, Central Serengeti, North Serengeti and finally back to Arusha via Ngorongoro Crater.

It seems like a guide/driver can make or break your trip. We had a superstar named Solomon. He's a true gentleman, friendly and a safe driver. Most importantly, he had eyes like a hawk and an amazing safari instinct. We managed to see 3 river crossings in the space of 3 hours, with a 4th crossing the next day. We managed to see all the animals in a variety of habitats that we wanted, even the elusive black rhino in Ngorongoro Crater.

The other great thing about Soul of Tanzania is the hot lunches. Each day, Solomon would set out a nice table cloth, plates, cutlery and we'd get to eat a hot meal. Our meals included meat and vegetable curries, rice, noodles and pastas. Other companies seemed to provide lunch boxes containing a sandwich, juice and yoghurt. BTW I'm a vegetarian (no meat, chicken or seafood) and definitely did not go hungry.

If you do plan a safari be aware that the drives are long, and often on rough roads. They call it the Tanzanian Massage. If I had my choice again I would go from Arusha to Tarangire, then Ngorongoro (+/- Laky Manyara), Central Serengeti, Northern Serengeti, then FLY back to Arusha to avoid the long drive back.

Dear SydneyTimetraveller, You are completely right - the guide can make or break the safari. That's why we make sure to only work with the best professionals in the field! Not only the most knowledgable but passionate and friendly. Solomon is one of those cases, he'll do whatever is within is reach to provide the most unforgettable experience :) We are quite glad that you enjoyed our hot lunches and, most importantly, that you didn't go hungry. No one can truly enjoy the safari on an empty stomach! Thank you so much for your review!

GREAT !!
Aug 2019 • Friends
We, party of 4, went for an 8-day safari trip at the end of August. We visited “Lake Manyara”, ‘Ngorongoro”, “Serengeti (Central & North)’ and “Tarangire”. It was a fun filling and memorable trip. We saw only 4 of the Big 5, missing the rhino which would probably give us an excuse to revisit Tanzania in the future!

SoT had done a great job in tailoring and organising the trip for us. I like their flexibility of allowing us, the clients, to choose the places to visit and hotels for staying. We picked hotels/tents at various grades and types for different experience (against a fixed itinerary and grade of hotel from other tour operators). My biggest hesitation was wiring such a big sum of money which turned out not an issue at all!

A big thank you to our tour guide “Dominic” who had done an excellent job in taking care us throughout the whole trip. Somehow, Dominic has this special “instincts” knowing where the animals locate ...... we always managed to show up at the right place and time (except the rhino which Dominic had forgotten that it was on vacation somewhere!). We saw the baby loins, baby cheetahs and baby leopard which was amazing (see my pictures). Also, he had always managed to find us the good spot with the correct lighting for pictures. Dominic is a great guy who has passion on his job and, most important, a heart for his clients 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 !!!

Great trip!!

Dear SimonN2238, Thank you so much for leaving your feedback! We will be more than happy to have you back again in Tanzania! Rhinos are very shy so it's hard to spot them... Even with such a passionate and great guide like Dominic! But we are sure that even without seeing the rhinoceros you had an amazing time with us :) We hope to hear again from you - the rhino will be waiting!
