It was a gift getting Sunil as a guide. From the first meeting, he asked us what we wanted and had the energy for, and then continuously adjusted the plans so we received the best experiences tailored just for us. His enthusiasm for life and for his country was contagious. We absorbed his vast knowledge about culture, history, religion, food, and life in general. We experienced Sunil as a rare fine, wise, tolerant, and proactive person who carefully reads situations. On the practical side, he is an exceptionally competent and pleasant driver (which is much needed in the traffic in Sri Lanka!). And he can work magic to secure good tickets, hotel rooms, chocolate biscuits, smiles, and moonstones. Sunil is good and wise company, and we have enjoyed getting into his car every day and seeing the beautiful and nuanced sides of Sri Lanka. We highly recommend Sunil if you want a guide who goes above and beyond to give you the best possible holiday in Sri Lanka.

Our travel agency used Mahaweli to take us (a family of four) for a six day tour around the south of Sri Lanka. We had a fantastic time and it went smoothly thanks to our driver Thila. We felt very safe due to his relaxed and calm driving style. It was easy to communicate via WhatsApp and Thila proactively offered his services even when we thought he had a day off. A small tip for improvement, we went on a river rafting trip organized via Mahaweli. While the river rafting itself was really great, the lack of a changing room meant we had to change in a dirty toilet (which also had no soap or paper available). It would be nice with improved changing/washing/toilet facilities for this activity.

We had the best holiday in Sri Lanka ..we will recommend Mahawelli and our driver and guide Theekshana any time .. He was such Calm driver in the hectic traffic and a really nice person … It would be a lot more individual planned for your wishes to contact this Company direct and not go through a travel Company in your own country ..for exampel if you want more than 1 night in Ella ..if you like hiking and bar life ..

Overall excellent experience. Made my ticket booking through Agoda. Contact details of Mahaweli Tours and Travels were shared by Agoda in the booking voucher, as the local co-ordinator. They responded, as and when I contacted them. The tickets get delivered to the hotel directly, usually in the early morning of the journey date or the in evening of the day before. I was getting a bit anxious, what if I don't get the tickets!! But Mr. Geesara from Mahaweli assured me not to worry, and eventually got the tickets at the hotel the day before, in the evening!! So 👍 to Geesara again. The journey itself was marvellous, they arranged for 1st class tickets. Will definitely recommend Mahaweli Tours and Travels!!

I booked my ticket many months before my travel and have to admit I was a bit dubious that the ticket would ever happen, but I was contacted a few days before to let me know my ticket would be delivered to my hotel. It arrived the day before. My seat on the train was perfect, a window seat and no one sat next to me. The train journey itself took 7hrs but I wasn't bored for one minute, scenery was amazing!

Geesara from Mahaweli Tours made it all very easy. I was contacted the day after booking my tickets through Expedia, they stayed in contact with me to confirm when the tickets would be dropped off to my hotel the day before and just made the whole experience really easy. Would def recommend booking through them.

Really nice with reserved seats! It is a long trip and i recommend reserved seats, then you are guaranteed seats, and do not need to stand the entire trip! I also had a really nice journey coordinator, name Geesara. He was available any time and helped me if I needed!

We traveled first class which was really comfortable. Fabulous journey spectacular scenery - Ella is a beautiful setting with fab views and countryside but the main road full of bard and restaurants was hideous!

Amazing comfy ride from Weligama to the airport. Good car, driver was even earlier than planned, A/C. Definitely recommended!

We packed so much into our tour with Danu our lovely driver. He did his best to give us the experience best for us. Sygria Rock was our highlight and then a traditional lunch with Danu. Also loved the train Journey from Ella. All of it fabulous but we rushed, give yourself more time ...

I had an amazing trip and it was very cheap as well. Worth every penny, communication was good and everybody I interacted with could speak English. Car and driver both were really nice so really enjoyed the trip.
