About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- yurkoziy0 contributionsAwful client-orientation!We paid for the trip, but couldn’t attend, because we were 7 min late for the appointment and the driver simply left us. While I admit my responsibility for that, it was disgusting that the organizer lady just stopped answering our messages at the time we could fix the situation. Terrible experience!Written October 13, 2024
- carolien30000 contributionsGreat downhill bike tour!It was very easy and relaxed. Also for an eight year old no problem. A bit more off road would be nice. The lunch and breakfast were great, best Indonesian food we had so far!! Lovely staff. The guides were nice, very enthousiastic, good english! Thank you! . One thing I did not like. There was a stop to see a local house. Really nice. I would prefer to pay more so the family becomes a standard fee from the bike organisation. Now children had to sell stuff to us. This is not how it should be when they are part of the tour. Please change that!!Written July 16, 2024
- 2041deanm0 contributionsGood but could be betterThe people running the tour were lovely and the food good. The quality of the bikes was average and the knowledge of the tour leader was poor. It could have been a lot better.Written July 5, 2024
- lizdavie0 contributionsGreat way to learn about everyday Balinese lifeThis was an excellent tour, the guides were very friendly and freely shared their knowledge about the Balinese way of life, it really gave you an insight into everyday life of Balinese people. The down hill part of the tour was really that, virtually all down hill so very easy and great fun flying down the hills if you so wish. The tour ran like a well oiled machine, very organised, everyone was very friendly and the lunch was delicious. Thank you :-)Written June 22, 2024
- Y8258BWjuliuss0 contributionsAmazing!Amazing experience overall! I had a great time and learned so many new things about the balinese culture. If you're in Ubud - this is a must!!!Written April 26, 2024
- devonmaid700 contributionsWonderful tour possibly some safety concernsI booked this trip for my daughter and two adult members of my group (I lead tours) and one of their children also age 12. Positives, everyone agreed that this was a fantastic trip… A really great insight into rural life in Bali and really lovely. The guide was friendly and everyone really enjoyed it. The negatives however were of concern to me. I have tried to have a discussion with the company about this, and my concerns have not really been answered. During the tour, my daughter had quite a bad fall. She was very lucky and was just very bruised, but the adult that was with her as responsible is an advanced nurse practitioner and she told me that my daughter was extremely lucky to not have been very seriously injured. It came about because she wasn’t as an experienced rider as the other child in front of her as . He’s the same age and she followed him down a very steep slope which needed to end with a very sharp left hand turn . She didn’t break properly and went over her handlebars, not breaking properly down this slope and came to a rest with her bike on top of her and her head hanging over a cliff. We don’t really know what was below the cliff, but it was very steep jungle cutting ,probably rocky… it wouldn’t have been a good outcome if she had fallen down it. She did make an error and the tour company pointed that out to me as part of their response. Eight people were fine but she was not. The people behind her fine because they saw what happened and stopped and walked down. The tour guide rushed back to her and they untangled her. She was really entangled with her bike and she chose to continue, which was, her adult in charge thought, was the right thing to do, and I agree. This nurse also said to me that the quality of the helmets is not suitable. They are not in very good condition and they should be replaced. The bikes are in okay condition. But they only had one size of bike and adjusted the seat and handlebars to fit. All in all my main concern is the outrageously unfriendly communications from the staff almost both before and after. She messaged me to tell me that my daughter wanted to come home via Taxi, but failed to tell me that she’d had a fall. I had a trusted adult in charge of her anyway, but the communications from then on were very unfriendly and spiky. Prior to the tour, I had been asking questions in Indonesian, which I speak reasonably fluently and she ignored my Indonesian and responded in rubbish English. This left me with a poor info and unanswered questions, and I kept having to repeat the question over and over again. I eventually got some kind of remorseful response, but it took far too long to come and I don’t feel that the company were prepared to learn from the experience. My daughter is 12 and the size of an adult. She watched someone very experienced do something and wrongly felt that she could do it too. I felt it needed a more stringent warning from the guide, perhaps.Written April 19, 2024

- JennyB6450 contributionsVERY DISAPPOINTED, I WAS DENIED AN EXPERIENCE I'D BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO - THIS TOUR IS NOT BEING ACCURATELY ADVERTISEDThe ride was way too fast! Our designated tour 'guide' had been assigned to care for a family of 5 from Holland - and myself and my husband from Australia - 7 of us in his care - BUT, from the outset, he took off at high speed and continued to madly speed downhill - he didn't wait or check on anyone; he completely lacked any care! Thankfully there was a 2nd tour guide just 5mins or so behind our tour (to begin with) and he asked me if I was ok - "no", so he helped me sort out an alternative and I started the tour in the car for the really hilly and fast downhill ride (nothing safe here) - no actual peddling/riding was necessary for a very, very long time as it was serious downhill! Just had to constantly use both hand brakes the whole time!!! Now I was in the car with our lovely driver, following the 2nd tour - I and my driver watched on as this lovely tour guide stopped a couple of times (during the time we were following them) to check on 3 of his 7 people that had fallen off their bikes! Seeing this and although I was still very apprehensive, I was willing to try and re-join my group and I attempted to re-join my group 4 times in total. Every single time our guide took off fast (I wasn't even on my bike), even when he assured me he'd slow down AND he told me 3 times that "it's easy now" - which proved completely wrong on each occasion! Once the crazy downhill part of the ride was over, it was then time to navigate busy local Bali roads and this was done by my group, once again, WITHOUT the assistance of our 'guide'! He was way ahead of them all! I expected this tour to be safer - not such a treacherous downhill mad, crazy rush - not travelled on so many busy local roads - and certainly not without a guide to assist foreigners/tourists to navigate all of this...so, if you're expecting otherwise, consider yourself warned! I was truly upset to have had such a negative experience and I completely missed out on the promised ride through villages and rice fields. I was very excited to be going on this tour and I had been looking forward to it for ages! This tour is not being advertised or promoted correctly and it needs to be immediately reviewed and updated to accurately reflect what to expect! Perhaps some staff training also would be great, especially for this particular 'guide'! If anything I've mentioned in this review concerns you, please very closely consider whether or not to go on this particular tour. Whatever you decide, I hope you get to enjoy an experience I was denied!Written August 4, 2023
- GrandTour124148153360 contributionsNice concept but poor Organization.I felt that the Organization was not good. There was no briefing on safety precautions, how to coordinate with each other (like some hand signal on when to stop/danger ahead etc) and what to expect (example some cycling on the road, paddy field, steep areas, toilet stop etc. We basically just cycle past everything. The guide did not give any commentary or explanation. There was lack of photo taking opportunities since we didn’t stop much. My friend felt into the paddy field and the guide didn’t seem to know what to do. Overall I felt that the tour was a disappointment. The only saving grace was the excellent food (breakfast and lunch) which was very delicious and fresh, and the warm hospitality of the host plus the coffee plantation tour which was well conducted with proper explanationWritten July 18, 2023
- markgU8394QF0 contributionsBali downhill cycling tourA very pleasant way to spend the day. The breakfast before and lunch after were both really good. The cycling is easy going but you probably need a little experience as you can reach quite high speeds and need good brake control - the bikes are in good condition and have good gears and brakes. Very little need to pedal as you free wheel down through the countryside, rice fields and villages. Everyone is really friendly and it’s a great day out. Highly recommendedWritten June 23, 2023
- stephensZ7101QO0 contributionsNice and easy going ride down the hillThe cycling tour was very easy going and relaxed, ideal for checking out the scenery. Staff was very friendly and the contact with them through WhatsApp was very good. They even picked us up from a hotel what wasn’t on their normal route. Thanks again!Written May 29, 2023
- sudu21110 contributionsAmazing downhill cycling experienceMy family of 3 did the cycling activity with Gowez Bali Tours on 14th May 2023. We thoroughly enjoyed the traditional breakfast and lunch as well as the cycling itself. The cycling was effortless as it was entirely downhill. The sights in the surrounding countryside are very very beautiful- plantations, forests, rice paddies, traditional houses etc. The guide and driver took extra pains to ensure that we were comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Regards, Sudarshan from IndiaWritten May 20, 2023
- cameronh9340 contributionsBest thing to do in UbudThe tour was hands down the best thing we have done in Bali. Our two cool guides took us on a journey through the Balinrse countryside, starting at Kintamali with views of Mt Batur. We were given a mountain bike and helmet and the started on the wonderful maze of back roads with stops for breakfast; coffee at a plantation; a look around a typical family compund; cruising through the rice paddies before a nice lunch to finish. Well organised and run I would urge everyone to give the guys at Gowek Cycling Tours a call because you won't be disappointed.Written May 15, 2023
- Ashley B0 contributionsCycling and cultureHad a wonderful day cycling with Gowez Bali Cycling Tours. Breakfast, lunch, visit to local Balinese home, cemetery and cycling through local villages. I would definitely recommend ❤️Written May 13, 2023
