Our guides were Jess and Lamah. They were so amazing, kept us laughing the whole time, and were totally understanding of our dietary restrictions. They took us on an amazing adventure and we had the absolute best time. If you aren’t planning on doing this activity you’re missing out on the some of the best Bali has to offer.

My teenage daughter and I did this trip. Transport to the location was fine where we had a breakfast and orientation. Rama and his team were exceptional. They were clear in safety, and made the experience very enjoyable with lots of laughter. We wore a swimsuit; they provide all other gear (wet suit, socks, shoes). They locked up our bags. They also provided a photographer who took great action shots and video. So, no need to bring a camera. There are three skills: walking, abseiling, and jumping. They are all doable (although you might have to work up a nerve to jump into water). They also have paths if you don’t want to jump. We had a great time and it is highly recommended, particularly if you have kids that want to do something active.

I first saw canyoning on trip adviser and it looked great. I had never really heard of it before and thought it may be difficult or dangerous, however after reading a brochure detailing what was on offer I thought I’d give it a go with my wife.

We were picked up just after 6am in a really nice comfortable car. The trip to base camp was about 1:45 mins which went by quickly as the scenery on the way was awesome.

We arrived just before 8 and were greeted by Okay and Angaa. They would be our guides for the day and I could tell upon first meeting them it was going to be a great day.

We had a light breakfast before we had a demonstration on how to use the ropes and harness for abseiling. We were then fitted out with wetsuits and shoes. They don’t lie when the day everything is included! All the equipment was clean and in good condition.

We then drive a short distance we’re we trekked for about 10 mins until we reached the canyon. The first couple of rapels, slides and jumps were a good tester to test your skills.

After that, there were some bigger jumps, longer rapels and cooler slides. The scenery down the canyon was incredible.

The last waterfall is awesome and there are some great photo opportunities. You finish with a slight walk back to the truck and then you are greeted with a really tasty lunch when you get back to base camp.

You don’t need to be a strong swimmer or require any experience to enjoy this adventure.

The guides were awesome, friendly and very knowledgeable. They made sure everyone had a great time and did it in a way that was safe and fun.

It is one of the more expensive things to do in Bali but it’s the best money I spent whilst over there.

Will definitely be doing this again! Awesome!!!

Was a lot more fun than I expected, water was mostly clear except for this part with construction that had slide offs causing muddy water, but all good. Water was a bit cold but full body wetsuits are provided.

Hot spring mid trip was also such a luxury :D

I thought timing was just nice but others said it was a bit long, so if you tire easily go for another package. Not very tiring imo, and only the very last descent may be very slightly more work.

Hi shachalee thank you for your review! Looks like you experienced a canyon in Gitgit. We have stopped the operations in that area due to the muddy and unsafe conditions of the canyon, BUT we have great news: our newest canyoning area is ABSOLUTELY PRISTINE and with amazing canyons to enjoy. So next time you are in Bali, don't hesitate to join us again for another epic day out with our team! Thanks and see you soon

Husband and I booked this as part of our anniversary trip to Bali. It was definitely the highlight of our trip. Such a fun experience with nice/fun guides that kept us safe but urged us to challenge ourselves. We have done a similar tour before in Costa Rica and this was just as awesome. Some beautiful scenery of parts of Bali we otherwise would not have seen. Would definitely recommend!

Had a day canyoning and had a blast. Highly recommended for the adventurous and also recommended for people who want to break out of their comfort zone. Started the day with an early morning pick up at 6am in Ubud and drove 2 hours to a place near Gitgit. Then we meet our 2 great guides, Imin and Rama, and they provided a great breakfast and tea before briefing on the days activity. They also provide the equipment but you will need to wear a bathing suit because you will get wet. Then the fun starts, we jumped, slide, and repelled down beautiful waterfalls. Also the canyon is gorgeous to look and to traverse through. What was also great even though Imin and Rama prioritized safety, they encouraged us to have fun and be adventurous (I attempted to do a back flip off a cliff and failed spectacularly). Also there is a hot spring at the midway point which was very relaxing. When we were finished they provided lunch. Then they provided transportation back to our hotels.
Some tips for people who want to do this, make sure you bring an SD card or USB for your photos and video the guides will take (cost a little extra but highly recommended to get them). Also if you have a waterproof camera like a GoPro, bring it with you so you can get your own shots, just make sure the camera can float and can be attached to your body (I lost my GoPro stick because i didn't attach it to my body or have a floatable stock). Also like previous reviews said, bring an extra pair of clothes to get into when you are done.

My wife and I had the best time on this excursion -- far exceeding our expectations.

Our driver arrived as promised at 6:00 a.m. to pick us up in Sanur and drive us two hours north. He was very polite, had a clean car, and drove safely.

We were greeted enthusiastically by staff -- Angga and Oka -- upon arrival. You can tell that they love what they do because they were very excited to be taking the other guests and us -- 10 clients in all -- into the canyon and couldn't wait to show us the ropes, literally and figuratively.

We received a light breakfast. It was fast, hot, and hit the spot. This is not a major meal, and you don't want it to be given what you're about to be doing for the next four hours. (Remember: You're not going to this place for the food; you're going for the outdoor experience.)

The staff provided us with wetsuits and canyoneering boots/shoes. If you've never been in a wetsuit, they're not the most comfortable things in the world. They're bulky and hard to maneuver in. But they proved to be very beneficial in the canyon because they provided extra padding when we bounced off the rocks (which you do, intentionally and on accident, all day long) and kept us comfortable in the cold water.

Some of the shoes aren't in the best shape, and pebbles got into our shoes a lot. Even brand-new shoes probably would have had a similar problem. But the shoes are meant to provide traction and protection, and this much they certainly did.

Staff provided very good instruction on how to work the harness and ropes. Their English is very good.

After suiting up and practicing with the harness and ropes, we loaded into the back of a truck and headed to the starting point. The ride is about 20 minutes long.

We hiked about 10 minutes from the drop-off location into the canyon. It's a fairly easy hike, but it is nothing more than a footpath. Nothing about this experience is ADA accessible.

Our four hours in the canyon flew by. The group got along very well, and everybody stepped out of their comfort zones at one point or another. It was a lot of fun to see people doing that and having a great time throughout.

The equipment and anchors in the rocks were very safe, as were Angga and Oka. Even though they were laughing and joking the entire time -- the experience alone is worth the price, but it was twice as good because of our guides' great personalities -- they were also very careful to follow every safety precaution and they gave clear, concise instructions on every jump/slide/repel. If you listen to the guides carefully and follow their instructions, by the end of the day you'll look like you've been repelling for a lot longer than four hours.

We took a break about half way through. There is a small hot spring where we stopped to have some water and eat some candy bars to get our blood sugar back up. Four of the other guests on our trip had signed up only to go to the half, at which point they'd go back to the truck and return to the shop. But they were having so much fun that they decided to go all the way down.

The first half is more challenging because you do more repelling and tougher climbing and sliding. The second half is easier, with fewer slides, jumps, and repels. However, the best part of the day is the last two repels on the second half of the trip. These falls are the two tallest that you'll do, and they require you to repel through a waterfall. That was crazy and a blast all at the same time!

This is a great trip if you love the outdoors and don't mind a little bit of physical exertion at times. You are going to get very wet, so if you don't like the water you should find another activity. If you love the water and jumping into pools and swimming and floating around, you'll be in heaven.

When we finished in the canyon, we were driven back to the shop to dry off, change clothes, and have a light lunch. Lunch, like breakfast, was light and modest and made with love.

If you're in the southern portion of Bali, plan on a 10- to 12-hour day. The drive without traffic is two hours in each direction, and with traffic it is easily three hours each way. The drive through the rural parts of the island are beyond words -- you'll definitely enjoy it -- but it's not quick. Be patient. (Or take a nap.)

If we weren't going home tomorrow, we'd do the trip again -- partly to enjoy the canyon, but also because Angga and Oka were so much fun and were such good teachers at the same time. We will definitely do this trip again on our next visit to Bali.

I remember reading this very page before I went to Bali and im so glad that everyone's reviews convinced me to go canyoning. It was my first canyoning experience and definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity! Anyone who visits Bali HAS to go canyoning. The guides Rama and Jas were so helpful, kind, friendly and funny. I went with my sister and a group of four other people we met that day. Everyone was so nice and waited for each other and help one another out. The Kerenkali canyon was challenging but extremely worth it in the end! There were so many jumps and rappels but you never feel scared because of the way they train you before it starts. If you're comfortable with doing something along the way, the instructors will surely provide you an alternative. The adrenaline rush is like no other-- EVERYONE MUST DO THIS!!

I saved the canyoning as the grand finale in our action-packed trip to Bali, and it did not disappoint! My boyfriend was nervous he was going to get hurt and initially didn't want to go, but I persuaded him to do it and he ended up loving it. The guides had a great energy and made the trip extra fun. Scenery is simply stunning. They equip you head to toe in gear with good shoes for walking through the river so you have protection from the rocks. You don't need to have any experience, but you do need to want a thrill and not be too petrified of heights. They give you breakfast and lunch, but if you are coming from Ubud the car ride is 1.5 hours so bring a snack. Highly recommended for anyone seeking some real adventure off the beaten path.

It was on the 28th of October, 2017. At the Adventure And Spirit Office at Gitgit I was introduced to two Canyoning Instructors Rian and Anjas. Both of them are certified ICOPRO (INTERNATIONAL CANYONING ORGANIZATION FOR PROFESSIONALS) instructors. Rian explain to me in few words, the outdoor activities of CANYONING and showed me the chart illustration of the various places of canyoning that is available. From the easiest stage to the proffesional stage. We can choose to go to which stage. If children are participating then the easiest stage are preferable. The various stages are differentiate by the difficulties in overtaking obstacles using a variety of techniques such as RAPPELING (abseiling), JUMPING, SLIDING, SWIMMING and ZIP-LINING.
Before embarking into the small truck that is going to take me to the canyon, I have to change into wet suits and shoes provided by the agency.
The journey to the edge of the canyon takes about 10 minutes. We passes along villages and plantations. The road is metalled. After disembarking from the small truck the canyoning activity begins.Walking along jungles and rivers then the first obstacle is sliding on the rocks on to the stream below. Then face with a high waterfall we go down with abseiling. Then after another waterfall we do ZIP-LINING to go down. At another high ground we just simply jump to the stream below. So all along there were multiple of obstacles sliding, abseiling, jumping and swimming. It was fun and exhilarating. The picturesque was amazing, lots of green foliage, volcanic rocks formation, waterfalls and icy cold streams of water. In a moment of awe I thought I was in LOST WORLD. The last leg of the journey took us to a natural hotwater pool. We rested for a while and eat some biscuits and drink and walk back to the waiting truck to take us to the agency Office. Canyoning is not widespread popular yet in South East Asia but it is already popular in Europe. Both the instructors are most helpful and makes the activity fun. They also took GoPro videos and still photos while I'm indulging the adventure activities. It's part of the package and it's free. You just need to bring along a micro SD card or thumbdrive for them to transfer the pictures. Have at least 16GB for the capacity.
I definitely recommend tourist to take this eco friendly adventure of canyoning. It's the only one available in South East Asia. Cautioned though you need to be a liitle bit fit otherwise you'll feel muscle aches and pain later on. Ah that's not an excuse. The important thing is you'll feel happy, it's fun, euphoric, de-stress and gives you the adrenaline.
