About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- cvmenezes0 contributionsGreat authentic experience and food!I really enjoyed this experience! We went to Singapore and Bali as a family (7 of us ranging from 77 yrs to 9 yrs old)… this was a really good experience for seeing what a real Bali market with vendors is like. Come with an appetite because you will get plenty to eat, ranging from barbecue meats to fried rice and deserts! It’s an authentic experience where we ate at tables with the local people! Our guide knew where to take us and gave a god description of the foods we were eating and taught us the Indonesian names for a lot of the foods we had.Written August 8, 2024

- jamesrR1307CW0 contributionsGreat food tourThe food selected was all really good. The guide was knowledgeable and flexible. I especially appreciated it when he stopped somewhere outside of the market area to get some martabak when i mentioned curiosity in trying it. Overall an excellent food tour.Written May 21, 2024
- isaachK1176QG0 contributionsGreat Good Tour With Yanika! It was a great tour! We tried several dishes and Yanika was very knowledgeable about not only the food, but other topics we talked about like local customs and religious practices. She was the best guide we had on our whole trip!Written April 14, 2024
- Maaka H0 contributionsGreat selection of Bali Street Food.We were immersed in a local food market and got to try various Balinese food. Worth a visit! Tour guide Yanika was very chatty and friendly. Great experienceWritten January 14, 2024
- BryanNYC010 contributionsNot quite what we expectedIt saddens me to write a review like this, but this food tour was disappointing. We’re frequent food tour explorers across multiple continents, and they tend to be the highlights of our trips. We love them as a way to immerse ourselves in local foodie delights, culture, history, to explore spots off the well-trodden tourist path, and to make new friends. This tour fell short. We tried 8 dishes in total (no suckling pig) from 2 vendors - think nasi goreng, mei goreng, bako ayam, Balinese breakfast cakes (the usual intro to Indonesia dishes). A few items were tasty, but nothing really stood out or were new to us as we had already tried these “street foods” at our hotel or in the States. We killed some time exploring the market in between (which is largely households goods for locals (think undergarments, shoes, toiletries, etc.)), which meant the actual tour was about 30-45 mins (and we spent about 2+ hours total driving there and back). The tour description lists 5-7 hours, so I figured we’d be eating and walking a bunch (which is common for most food tours), but that wasn’t the case. We’ve never been on a food tour with this little food from so few vendors (none of which we interacted with) or with such limited descriptions of the food & ingredients, cooking techniques or culinary history. For example, our guide didn’t tell us the Indonesian names of some of the dishes and couldn’t identify the ingredients in a few (a serious issue if you have allergies or dietary restrictions). We left fairly hungry, and I checked my watch and we walked a total of 500 steps. It felt both oddly quick and uncomfortably long, all at once. From a tour guide perspective, our guide was sweet but the conversation was mostly personal and we didn’t get much outside of basic small talk. We were hoping to walk away with a deeper understanding of Balinese and/or Indonesian culture and history, but we didn’t. Most food tour guides are passionate foodies, culture ambassadors, and delight in showing off their favorite foods and sharing their knowledge. Our guide, sadly, felt like she was ticking off a to do list and wasn’t prepared to answer most of our very basic culinary and history questions. I would recommend that the tour operator add in more food stops, diversify the offerings, and train their guides more. As it currently stands, this should be a 3 hour lunch tour at half the price. We would like to give our guide the benefit of the doubt (maybe it was a bad day?) but to fly 26 hours then sit in 2+ hours of bumper to bumper traffic for 45 minutes of small talk and foods we’ve had before or that can be had at a hotel, it wasn’t worth it for us.Written December 15, 2023
- jarvf20200 contributionsFriendly and tasty local experienceYanika was so hospitable, checking in with us before hand due to the weather not being great. The markets were amazing and Yanika organised a range of dishes to try based on our likes and dislikes. We had a great tour from pickup to drop off, thanks for an amazing local food experienceWritten December 1, 2023
- Sherpa150552114640 contributionsGreat Tour!We did our street food tour with the lovely Yanika. From the time she picked us up to the moment she dropped us off she was very friendly and welcoming and gave us lots of information about Bali and its culture. She took us to a local market where we had the opportunity to try authentic Balinese street food which was very tasty and flavoursome. I think our favourite was the meatballs and Nasi Goreng but we would give the Balinese cake 5 stars. She walked us through the rest of the market and we also stopped at a fruit stall where she explained all the different fruits that were on display. Overall we had an amazing evening and would commend Yanika on her general knowledge and professionalismWritten November 23, 2023

- 37trevorl0 contributionsHad a good time!Had a lovely time with our guide Yanika, who explained a lot about Balinese culture and cuisine to my friend and I. The food was delicious and I literally had the best sate with peanut sauce ever. And the night market was interesting, got items for better price than the tourist trap places. Recommended! Thanks again Yanika!Written October 19, 2023

- VickySmithard0 contributionsFabulous tour with YanikaWe're just back from a tour with Yanika. Yanika was absolutely lovely and tailored the food to our preferences. It was all really tasty and there was loads so we were full by the end but dessert was absolutely delicious so we ate as much as we could. Yanika was very friendly and informative, we'd definitely book another tour with her. Felt very safe in the car as well which is saying something given some of the crazy drivers around!Written September 3, 2023

- Bwilliams1340 contributionsGreat time!We enjoyed our tour this evening! We tried some great (spicy) food and some very interesting desserts. Our guide was accommodating to our needs, being that we had just arrived in Bali earlier that day after 24 hours worth of fights. Friendly, informative, and knowledgeable. I would recommend this and any other tour by the company.Written February 15, 2023

It all started one day before our cooking class when I received a message from our pickup driver Rukun saying we would be picked up at 7am from our hotel in Kuta which was nice just to have the confirmation. The following morning we were picked up at 7am on the dot by Rukun who ran through the mornings itinerary so we knew what to expect from our day. The car was private and well maintained. It took us about 90 mins to reach our destination at a small market with a small group of people and our cookery teacher. He showed us around stopping at various stalls explaining what things were and how local people used some of the produce. Then it was a quick trip back to our hosts kitchen which was in the most idyllic location between rice fields. We started by making our own offering which can be seen throughout Bali which was lovely. Then we chopped and ground ingredients by following the instructors guidance. Our fellow group consisted of another 8 or so people so hearing what was said was easy and he spoke good English. We took it in turns to fry ingredients and not before long we all sat down and ate our delicious lunch that we'd all cooked. It was great listening to stories from the other travellers who were from all over the world. About 1pm we left with Rukun to start our journey back, but not before we were all given the recipes so that we could practise what we we taught. It was great hearing about his life in Sumartra and how he loves his job meeting people all around the world. We got back to Kuta just before 3pm We had a fantastic day!! We both will be definitely trying out what we learnt at home. A nice surprise came later on in the evening when I received some photos and video of our day from Rukun, lovely touch! Highly recommended
