Mandore Garden Walking Tour

By Jodhpur Heritage Walk
Over the centuries, Mandore served as the capital of many Jodhpur kings, and even witnessed several invasions from different dynasties, including the Muslim rulers of Gujarat and Malwa. So, in order to protect Mandore further from invasions, the capital was shifted to the hilltop Mehrangarh Fort, as it offers better safety and protection to the royal kingdom. This ancient town was left in ruins following the abandonment. All that’s left today is the Mandore Gardens that have survived the wear and tear of time, and reminds visitors of the town’s glorious past. The Mandore Gardens houses ancient temples, memorials and high-rock terraces that are quite magnificent.

Abandoned since 1459 CE, the ancient town of Mandore is just five-and-a-half miles north of the tourist haven of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. One of best-preserved sites here is the Mandore Gardens that stand strong to tell the tale of a bygone era. 1) The Hall of Heroes 2) Ruins of Old Fort 3) Cenotaphs

Amazing time in the Blue City!
We had an amazing walking tour with our guide Prabhat. I was expecting only to walk around the 'Blue City' streets but surprised how in depth the tour was and how many attractions we visited along the way. Mr Prabhat was so knowledgeable and able to answer our many questions! We visited stepwells (he let us fetch water from a real well!), had authentic masala chai at a local woman's home, had delicious samosas, and made the climb up the city in time for the beautiful sunset. I definitely recommend this company when you are in Jodhpur and ask for Prabhat. You will not be disappointed =) Jon & Jenn - Toronto, Canada

      Perfect tour of Jodhpur Town
The guided tour by them was nicely done. We had asked for customised plan with photography + history + food of the city. The guide Tarun explained us everything and took us to some less crowded places. We also added Fort in our itinerary and Tarun guided us there as well. They even recommend you places which only locals know. Will recommend them if you want to have a true taste of the city.

Walking tour of jodhpur- a memorable experience
Thanks to jodhpur Heritage walk for organising such a nicely planned guided walk. Shoutout to our guide prabhat who enthralled us with stories of the fort town and it's history, the people, culture, traditions etc while showing us around the old city. He is really knowledgeable and his passion and love for the city is admirable. While standing at the fort gate and listening to him, It seemed as if we had travelled back in time and witnessing history turning it's pages. Some of the food joints he recommended were hidden gems and can't be looked up online easily and only a local will know. It was indeed a memorable walk and made one fall in love with the city. Thanks again to jodhpur Heritage walk for organising such off the beaten track tours . Surely, the best way to get to know a city is walking its lanes and bylanes, looking around and listening to a learned local.

      Highly Recommend Jodhpur Heritage Walk!!!
I highly recommend Jodhpur Heritage Walk. During my visit to Jodhpur around Diwali 2023, I received an amazing full day guided tour of the city and surrounding area. From the morning two-hour guided walking tour of much of the Old City to the visit to Mehrangarh Fort, the Jaswant Thada, and Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur Heritage Walk’s made the visit all the more memorable! My guide Brapat was both knowledgeable and personable throughout the day. He explained the history of the places we visited with the skill of a seasoned professional. My visit to the Blue City—and Jodhpur Heritage Walk’s role in facilitating it—has been one of the genuine highlights of my time in India. I cannot recommend this tour company enough!

      Rajasthan.. in a different light..
Me and my wife had a wonderful time in this heritage walk experience in Jodhpur. The guide was so knowledgeable and shared so much intricate details of the place and its history. He knows the history of the place as the back of his hand. This was such an enriching experience which I will remember for the rest of my life. I would highly recommend this experience for anyone who wants to enjoy the real flavour and grandeur of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Narrow gullies, blue houses and a setting sun will always be etched in my heart.

      Guided City Walk of Jodhpur
I had reached out to Jodhpur Heritage Walks requesting a half day city tour. Response was prompt. My guide Mr. Prabhat was very informative and took a keen interest in sharing stories and anecdotes that only locals are aware of. He showed me some key vantage points offering sweeping views of the city and the fort. In fact, upon hearing of my interest regarding a certain view point (which was not part of the scheduled walk) he went out of his way to drop me and arranged for the guide/tickets for the same. Recommended for any one interested in the culture and heritage of Jodhpur.

Walking in Jodhpur with Jodhpur Heritage Walk
I spent 2 days with Jodhpur Heritage Walk. First day we went to the Fort and to the Blue City. I was very pleased to go there with the guide Umed. He told me so much about the history of the place, showed me the most interesting spots in the Fort (on my own I would not know what to pay attention to) and helped me to find my way in the streets of the blue city. As I am interested in photography, next day I asked Umed to bring me to the best spots to watch the sunrise and the sunset. He showed me places with no tourists with great views on the Fort. It was a great experience.

      Would recommend
My guide Prabhat was great. He really knew the city well as he'd lived in the old part his whole life. Very knowledgeable and friendly. He took me to some of his favourite street food places from his childhood. Most importantly, unlike most guides in Rajasthan, he did not try to take me shopping! Would recommend.

Not a “Photography” Tour Per Se
Walk was very informative provided by a guide who knew the history explicitly. However, since the walk was entitled. “Jodhpur Photography Tour”, I expected it to be the hidden photography gems of Jodhpur? It was more like a historical tour of the Fort. Interesting enough but again not what I expected. Maybe a suggestion for the tour that the name be more related to the title. Thank you. Otherwise, pleasant enough.

Highly recommended, value for every ₹ spent
We took the help of Prabhat Singh for a heritage walk of Jodhpur - focussed primarily around Mehrangarh fort. Prabhat is highly knowledgeable about the history of Rajasthan, and about Jodhpur in particular. The heritage walk started at Clock tower, proceeded through markets around Clock tower, and lanes through Brahmapuri before we started the steep climb up the cliff to the fort. After seeing the Padampur lake, we proceeded to the Mehrangarh fort. Prabhat is a treasure of knowledge when it comes to everything around and in the fort. He is a proud native of Jodhpur, is very happy to explain history about Rajputs and provides context about everything that you see on your way. You might get tired with the walk, but Prabhat is never in a rush and goes out of his way to make your walk a memorable one. Unless you are a local of Jodhpur, 1. You are unlikely to easily find your way around in the small lanes around old Jodhpur with Google maps or something equivalent 2. It is very unlikely that you will understand and appreciate the history behind places that you see on your way. For these reasons, a heritage walk with Prabhat is highly recommended and the value provided is worth every ₹ spent

Highly recommended experience to see beautiful Jodhpur
The organizer was flexible and willing to meet us at a convenient hour. We saw lovely lanes of the old city, heard about local customs, and where to get amazing ghee kachoris and the Jodhpuri gulab jamun. We took so many photos! I highly recommend this experience to see the inner workings of this grand city and its beautiful blue quarter.

Great way to discover the old city and market streets
Easy to communicate with and very responsive. I used WhatsApp to get in touch and with some quick back and forth they arranged us a guide for a 3h heritage walk. Mr Nitin lobo was a great guide in explaining both the history and cultural background of Jodhpur and its people. We walked the markets and old Jodhpur neighbours where you find some of the blue houses. With some excellent timing we arrived just in time at one of the sunset points close to the fort for some beautiful pictures. Both jodhpur heritage walks and Mr Nitin lobo highly recommended.

      Highly recommend the heritage walk
we went with Mr.Rishi jodha who seemed to know practically someone in every street we walked through. The walk started at Ghanta ghar and walked through multiple spots through blue city. This walk was highlight of my trip to jodhpur, it was leisurely with good stops at each of the places where our guide described history of the place. There were some spots like next to fort near a lake where there were absolutely no tourists which are like hidden gems which we saw thanks to Mr.rishi. The setting was stunning to say the least. I went with my son who is young and the pace was very comfortable for him even though the walk was for 2.5 hours. The food highlight of walk was the terrific elaichi Chai, mirchi bajji fresh from being fried and pyaz kachori at the end which was like an icing on the cake for the walk. I would highly recommend this walk for folks who want to see old jodhpur

Roaming on the old days of royal city
It looks like walking back to the old centuries of Maharajas' era. Unlike south East Asian countries like Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, many people especially ladies are still wearing their traditional dress while going out their home. It makes my Heritage walk on the street to be more authentic and connected with the old days of Rajasthan.
