- Stay480010751890 contributionsA wonderful window into the villages of RajasthanOur tour with Mr Ashok was one of the best experiences in Jodhpur. Lost in the city, we usually forget to experience the true flavour of Rajasthan. Our day was filled with spotting interesting endemic flora and fauna while surrounded by peacocks. The activities that he acquainted us with such as block printing and pottery truly amazed me. It was not staged at all. We visited houses of local artisans and saw them create art. We visited his own house where his family works as weavers and saw how beautifully they bring such art forms to life. Followed by this his wife put before us one of the most delicious and true flavours of Rajasthan for lunch. I can never forget the taste of that curry and bajre ki roti. It was a wholesome trip which dominated the first half of the day. The weather was pleasant which added to the beauty. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to go beyond the city and explore what a Rajasthani village feels like. The warm hospitality of Mr Ashok, his knowledge about Rajasthan and his multilingual nature make him one of the best guides in the city.Written August 29, 2024
- Navigate429088470320 contributionsAmazing day meeting the Salawas traditionAmazing day by hand of Chhotaram, he took us to the traditional places where they grow food, do the ceramics, cook and do their traditional interlocked weaving and many other interesting cultural activities to learn the old ways. We finished into his house having a traditional meal with his family and the flavours of the area. Don’t miss buying a Durry, only 40 families left doing this amazing craftmanship!Written August 18, 2024

We thoroughly enjoyed sharing a meal at his village home, observing village life, local handcrafts like weaving and ceramics and spotting wildlife. Definitely recommend.Written March 30, 2024
- sophiech0 contributionsYou must do this!By far the best experience we have had on our trip! We were picked up at 8am for a safari geep tour to the Bishnois villages. We saw gazelle, deer and peacocks on the way. First we met a lovely family who explained the ceremonial ritual and through our guide told us fantastic stories. We were lucky enough to be here at the start of Holi festival so they were painting their floors in anticipation. We then drove to a potter who showed us how they make clay pots to hold water and other items they make, how they kiln them on an open kiln. It was so interesting and finally our wonderful guide, Chotaram took us to his house where his parents showed us their weaving. We had lunch made by Chotoram's wife in their house. The love the family have for one another and the natural laughter between them was infectious. If we ever come to Jodhpur again, we will definitely stay at their home stay. The food was out of this world and we learnt so much from Chotoram. He even bought us a delicious sugar cane drink to try on our arrival back into the city! Honestly, I cannot recommend him enough. A genuinely lovely man, full of interesting knowledge and a great horrible history lesson you do not receive from other guides! We loved every minute of it!Written March 23, 2024
- samawei0 contributionsGreat and informative tourGreat and very informative tour! Ashok taught us a lot about his culture and the Indian crafts and the food in the end was just delicious:) I can only recommend to do the tour with himWritten March 22, 2024
- Shelley G0 contributionsA unique cultural tourWe didn’t know exactly what to expect from this tour but really turned out to be a highlight of our trip. Our guide Chhotuh was waiting for us at the pickup point in a jeep as advertised. Chhotuh was a perfect guide. He is from the Bishnoi village so really is the perfect guide with intimate knowledge that was so interesting to learn about their customs and life. Chhotuh’s wife cooked us traditional foods over an open fire. Although there was cutlery, Chhotu showed me how to eat with hands only which is an experience and surprisingly practical. This really is a great day - highly recommended!Written March 14, 2024
- 847yaminil0 contributionsBeautiful experience 👌👌Must visit the local villages to know the real IndiaWe travelled with ChotaRam Prajapat and learnt about the local arts and crafts pottery, indigo dyeing, Dabu prints, block printing, and specially interlock Durrie weaving. This was followed by dinner at their home in a very family environment. Food was cooked on the wood fired Chulha. It’s an amazing experience! Choraram ji discussed in detail how the local artisans are benefitted by the interest shown by travellers in their art. Durrie making is an art which is on the brink of dying and needs to be encouraged We bought (Dabu block printed) bed sheets and Durrie from local craftsmen Enjoyed the local Rajasthani food KairSangari, Rabodi and Bajri roti with lasun chutney under a starlit sky 👌👌👌 We also saw Neel Gai and flocks of Peacocks and peahens on our wayWritten March 6, 2024

- josyr5660 contributionsGet in touch with the local lifeWe had an amazing Village-Safari with Ashoka this Afternoon. First we saw some wild animals like gazelles in the nature and after we visited three different families in the Village. There we learned about the local life and met very friendly people. Our Guide Ashoka had a really positive energy which made the tour even more enjoyable. We can really recommend to make the Village-Safari with him to get closer to the Indian Village life. All in all an authentic experience.Written December 18, 2023
- victorienvictorien0 contributionsAn authentic and unique experience!A fantastic way to connect with the locals and discover their traditions, culture, knowledge-how in an authentic, respectful and fun way. My family absolutely loved every parts of it, from the Jeep Safari, ceremony, pottery experience, rug making and all the interactions in between. Ashok, our guide was very welcoming, warm and friendly. His entire family run the operation in such a beautiful and honest way. They have a Homestay you can stay at a few days and really get a sense of what it is to live in a village in India. I’ve traveled quite a bit in India and this was definitely a highlight! Definitely recommended!Written December 13, 2023
- lutzw690 contributionsAuthentic local India experience in Bishnoi VillageThe Tour started at 8 in the morning. Our Tour Guide Ashok Prajapat picked us up at our Hostel and we started driving to the country Side. During the Tour ashok showed us all different kinds of wild animals and explained a lot about the wild life in the Region. Furtheremore he showed us different kinds of craftmanship which are used for generations and told us a lot about the culture and way of life the people are living. All in all it was a really authentic and interesting experience in which you get real culturel Insights. I can recommend the Tour to everyone who Likes to get a deeper Look into the local Community.Written December 1, 2023
- Ed T0 contributionsExperience village life in JodhpurGreat tour, this is a must do activity in Jodhpur. Our guide Ashok was extremely knowledgeable about local customs. We went on a short safari and saw some peacocks and gazelles, but the real highlight was going to the village and seeing how people live there. He explained in detail about the caste system and the different roles the castes play in the area. We participated in an opium ceremony, yes you get to consume opium but it’s a very small quantity so you won’t feel much if anything. The pottery studio was also fascinating, and we got to see the potter throw on his giant manually powered wheel. Finally we went to Ashok’s family home where they also have a rug weaving business and traditional mud huts. We saw his parents meticulously weaving a huge rug on the loom. His wife made us delicious Rajasthani food, very simple but the best meal I had in Jodhpur. There are opportunities to buy pottery and rugs if you want, but they’re not pushy about it.Written November 24, 2023

We did a 1/2 day village Safari with Ashok driving a Mahindra Thar. He is smart presentable and communicates well in Hindi and in reasonable English. We saw some Deer, Nilgai and Black bucks on the way. We stopped at a block printer’s and a pottery maker’s place. Wonderful experience. Bought bed sheets. Final stop over at the Prajapat home where he showed us dhurry weaving. We bought that too. Ended with a wonderful home cooked simple meal - bajra roti, sabzi, kadi and rice. The whole experience was extremely warm and hospitable. They have nine cottages at their homestay. Very comfortable and well appointed. I had to use their toilet and trust me it’s Krishna Gopal certified!!!
My wife wants to come back and stay here for a day for sure.
Strongly recommend this place. I am told they recently won an award for the best Rural Homestay.

I did this morning trip whilst staying at Chhotaram Prajapat's Homestay (which I recommend staying at) and it was great to head out for the morning in a jeep and see the local villages and near by areas. I saw so many different animals and got to speak to some Villagers.
We visited a Pottery Workshop and a Textile Factory but neither of them pressured me into buying things and had I had space in my bag these were great places to go for local handicrafts.
I'd really recommend doing this!

Fantastic journey! Absolute incredibly informative, some of the nicest food served by some beautiful women, and overall fantastic experience, got to see a lot of the local wildlife, and the fact that they maintain the business in the family made it feel even more real and exciting.

We had the pleasure of a half day guided trip with Chhotaram Prajapat late December 2018. We packed so much in it felt like a week's worth of fun! We were met at our hotel at noon and were dropped home in the evening. I am so pleased we did this excursion, we got to see so much more of Jodhpur and the surrounding area than we could have imagined, villagers, gorgeous crafts, rare wildlife, off track beauty spots, camel rides! and were cooked a delicious home-made meal by Chhotaram's lovely wife and their family as we watched, over their traditional open fire. As a party of 4 females we felt safe and looked after the whole time. Chhotaram was also lots of fun and we spent the whole day laughing! I tried to leave this review when we were still in India but my Tech failed, so apologies Chhoto for the delay - we have not forgotten our trip - we made some great memories that will stay with us for years to come. Thank you :) Helen, Sally, Edie and Alice

Our tour, guided by Om, was a really fantastic experience with good insights into the crafts including pottery and Durry (rug) weaving + tasty lunch. There was no hard sell on buying things after the demonstrations, which you can imagine there might be - although of course we bought some, how can you not when they are so pretty?! Our tour didn’t include the block printing but we did forget to ask about it during the tour. All round good tour, would recommend if you want to see craftsmen working outside the cities.

An unique chance to gain an intimate insight into the lives of the Bishnoi people, living in the rural area around Jodhpur. The tour is guided by an actual local, which makes the whole exeperience more authentic. I have been in India for 10 days now and I have done a lot of things in different cities, but this was by far the most rewarding experience. I am grateful that he went out of his way to include a camel ride through the village for me, even if I was on a village safari and this exeperience was not part of that tour. A big plus for making the tour far less commercial than many others and for not pushing people to buy pottery or carpets. Simply perfect! Thanks!
