Fascinating stroll through the old town
Our guide Vidya made a stroll through the old town of Bengaluru fascinating. Interesting to hear the full history of the city right from the beginning. We strolled through the old market roads, visited temples and stopped for a great coffee and Dosas. On a tour of India , where we have had the pleasure of seeing many wonderful sights, this was something just a bit different and we both enjoyed it all the more for that.

    Unhurried history and craft
Super two-day trip with Poornima who certainly knows her stuff and has a seemingly encyclopaedic knowledge of the places we visited. The highlight for me was Srirangapatna and the chance to walk around the fort ruins and look out across the Cauvery river from where Wellington's troops had attacked Tipu Sultan's defences in 1799. That scene has barely changed in over 200 years and it was certainly untroubled by pasty European tourists like me when I was there. I would never have known to visit these sites, or even known they existed, had it not been for Poornima, and I am grateful to her for digging out these gems for me. During my time in Mysore we visited Chamundi Hills and I also purchased, on impulse, some beautiful parquetry from local craftsmen. My trip was tailor-made and it fitted like a glove. After a couple of weeks in India on business it was really nice to have an unhurried journey from Bangalore to Srirangapatna/Mysore which also took in a silk farm, silk auction and a factory where silk saris were crafted on machinery which looked as if dated to the mid-twentieth century (or earlier). A really great experience, and I can't wait to book onto another unhurried trip the next time I am in this part of India. Thank you Poornima!

Thoroughly an enjoyable Unhurried Pete Walk, a walk that captures the charms and flavours of the city.
We have been on Unhurried walks with Poornima twice, many years ago on "cubbon cantonment tales Walk" and last week on "Pete Walk". Highly recommend Unhurried walks. Poornima captures the charm of Bangalore so beautifully in these informative and interesting walks, making every walk unique and memorable for all ages. She goes an extra mile in making a personal connection with each of us, while keeping the walk lively with active conversation, she listens to our interests and shares a lot of additional anecdotes. Poornima is very knowledgeable, doesn't rush, it is truly an unhurried walk :) She goes in-depth to share every aspect, the city then and now - it's history, culture, local practices, shows rare and unseen photos, truly amazing to see how she remembers so many historic events, dates and names! One may be a tourist or a proud resident of Bangalore familiar with these places, but walking with Poornima gives a new dimension with her fascinating stories revealing all the local hidden gems. Our walk concluded with a delicious breakfast at an iconic eatery. Poornima was still energetic after 3 hours, continuing to share more stories and about the eatery also, loved listening to her and a special thanks for these prompt recommendations - benne dosa, dumroot and Badam Halwa. What better way than this to explore Bangalore and Karnataka! Already planning our next unhurried walk with her.

There are times to go on your own, and there are times you want a guide. This is the second!
I am experienced traveler and consider myself "adventurous," but the combination of logistical challenges and language issues can make South Indian cities overwhelming. As much as I love exploring, doing the pete area on my own would have been intimidating. Poornima made it just fun and I saw things that I would never have seen on my own. She was also very adept at quickly leveraging my own particular interests--I mentioned Jainism and then, when we came across a Jain festival, she took me in the neighborhood Jain temple. You can't do better than this.

A tour and history lesson of Bengaluru with a wonderful storyteller
Poornima is an amazing guide and masterful storyteller where she was able to weave history into interesting narratives about the different places we visited for this tour (ie., A Day in Nandi Hill). I had a wonderful time learning about the architecture of the temples we visited, the appropriate way to receive and give offerings (ie., use your right hand, folks!), and just have a great time in general in Poornima's company. She also knew a vast amount of history about other aspects of Bengaluru, including about the history of Indian Pale Ale, the culture of the city, etc. This made for a very fun car ride in between the places we visited. I highly recommend doing this tour (or other Unhurried tours)! If possible, would give her more than five stars.

Market walking tour with Vidya Lakshmi
What a wonderful way to spend 5 hours. Vidya is a foodie and knowledgeable about her subject. Visited the remains of the old wall/fort, St. Mary's Basilica, and then the city market, the flower market, Russel market. So much to see, smell, taste and Vidya had us try nearly everything: coconut water and tender coconut, other fruits, samosas, teas, morsels of delicious items, kulfi. She sent us home with flowers, tea, full tummies. Walked through an area with car repairs and used car parts which delighted my husband. Cheerful, great personality, a love of her subject. Thank you so much Vidya for a memorable day in Bangalore. The walking tour was very reasonably priced and a true value in learning about the city and its citizens.

    Fantastic Tour Company
I was in Bangalore for work and booked two tours as I arrived two days in advance. Both tours, Basavanagudi with Vidya and Medieval Bangalore with Usha, were fantastic. Poornima was very accommodating to my requests. Vidya and Usha were so knowledgeable and nice. As a female traveling alone, I really appreciated private tours with female guides. Employees at my company were impressed with what I had seen and experienced with Unhurried. Probably one of the best tour companies I've ever experienced, wish I could give more than five stars.

Ultimate ways to explore old Bangalore with Vidya Lakshmi !!!
I have been staying in Bangalore city for a decade ,but never explore the iconic and historic places Bengaluru.I got an invite from my dearest friend Vidya Lakshmi for a walking tour to see a few market places along with a Spanish family. So our walk started in Dargah Hazarat Syed Pasha Qadri Shaheed RA ,near SJP road old Thsrsgupet ,Dodpete ,Bengaluru. at 9 am It was a market trail. So for the first time i have experienced the real KR market and got to know so much interesting fact ,and history behind this iconic fresh produce market. The way Vidya shown this place was amazing. Each and every little fact she explained to us and made us see it in a very different prospective. We also visited Russell Market Dharmaraja Koil St, Shivaji Nagar, Bengaluru and before visiting the market she took us to St. Mary's Basilica. The Gothic architecture is designed so gracefully and beautifully.A beautiful statue of Mother Mary holding Child Jesus in her harms, 6 feet in height, is set up in a an attractive shrine just outside the Church building, is the chief object of veneration and source of inspiration for the people. Every day is draped in 'Sari' the typical dress of the Indian lady. Vidya told us that in 1875 when the new Church was built, people tried to remove this statue in order to install it on a prominent altar inside the Church, but they failed in their effort since the statue remained immovable. This strange happening is considered even today as a sign of Our Lady's miraculous power. Then we went to Russell market and this is one of the oldest structured markets in the city.Really good style. They got separate section for fruits, vegetables, seafood, meat and poultry. This place is the the real charm of Bangalore. You will get everything fresh. We had some amazing dates ,samocha and ginger tea .Then She took us to spice market and Excelsior Bakery & Dept Stores, has been around since 1930. It was set up by the dynamic duo of British-meet-Indian Mrs. Emery and an expert confectioner, Sagadev from Krishnagiri. The bakery has been selling cakes and bakery products ever since. We had some mouth watering chicken puffs out here. Our walk trail ended up with delicious biryani at Taj hotel in Shivaji nagar. I had lamb and fried chicken kebab which was amazing. It was so interesting and fantastic way to explore old Bangalore with Vidya Lakshami, Awesome walked with you ...thank you so much for taking the time to do it. I highly recommended Unhurried Bengaluru, India with Vidya Lakshmi for a ultimate walk of markets of Bangalore.

    We learned so much!
My daughter and I had two days in Bangalore on a larger tour of southern India and ended up doing two tours with Unhurried because we loved them so much. We first did a history/heritage walk in Pete with Usha during which we learned about Bangalore's early history as a city and explored markets and temples in this area, closing with a traditional south Indian breakfast. Based on how much we enjoyed this, we signed up for a food tour with Vidya in Malleswaram which was truly fabulous. We ate a diverse range of dishes and sweets at local eateries we never would have found on our own and learned about south Indian cooking and ingredients from Vidya who is also a local food blogger. These were both private tours and very reasonably priced with excellent value. We look forward to recommending Unhurried in future and staying in touch with the team.

    Excellent and informative walking tours
I did three tours with Unhurried, and got to experience all three of the guides - Poornima, Usha and Vidya. They were all excellent and interesting walks and all three guides were great. If you only have time for one, probably go for the Pete (old town) walk as it gives a good introduction to the history of the beginnings of Bangalore and its interesting to wander the crowded narrow streets of the market areas of the city where it all began with a knowledgable guide. And Poornima really is knowedgable, she has spent a considerable amount of time researching the history of Bangalore and really knows a lot about that and about Indian and Hindu culture in general. The Fraser Town walk is an interesting look at a part of Bangalore that came later under the British and provides a glimpse of a side of the city that feels different to the Pete area, with its wider tree-lined streets and more of a Muslim influence. This tour also contains some food tastings, including some incredible biriyani at the end. I also did the Malleshwaram tour to experience an area of the city that is slightly quieter and more planned, so combined these three tours provide a good overview of the city. Unhurried also offers many other tours as well. I would say that the tours are a little expensive, especially for a solo traveller on a budget, but if you can afford them then you can be assured of high quality. Thanks to the team for giving me a good insight into the city!

I would give more stars if I could
I was in Bengalaru for business and a friend recommended Unhurried for their walking tours. I am so glad that I did. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Poornima was a fantastic guide. Her passion for and knowledge of the city was amazing. We toured the old Pete and I was introduced to the culture of a very vibrant city. It was paced just right and the history of the city was brought alive in ways no book could do. I had one of the best dosas I have ever had and the South Indian coffee would put a lot of craft coffee places to shame. It you are ever in Bengalaru I would urge you to take the time to take their tour. I am hoping to do more on future trips.
