About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Quest8158230 contributionsEVITAR PARA TOUR A GUAJIRA EN FIN DE SEMANAPESIMA EXPERIENCIA GUAJIRA / BAD ALTERNATIVE TO GUAJIRA TRIPS Lack of information, lack of attention, lack of coordination between sites, lack of customer service. First, they said that they would pick me up at the terminal; however, once there they told me if it was possible to take a taxi and get to the starting point. I did not see a problem, without realizing that the signs of disorganization would begin there. I took the taxi and arrive at the starting point, where they told me they had made the wrong pick-up point for the people of Santa Marta and that we would now leave an hour later. Before leaving, they asked us to say what we were going to have lunch, however, when we arrived at the lunch site it took a long time for them to locate us and they did not know what we had ordered, so lunch took more than an hour to arrive. With these accumulated delays, the time in the points was limited and I could not fully enjoy the landscapes. At night, there was not even a mosquito net in the hammocks, and although we were told that at 6 am we should be ready to go, the accommodation site does not manage those times for breakfast. As it was impossible to go up to Punta Gallinas, they offered some alternatives, and we opted to go back and get our money back. However, at the time of making the claim, we saw BAQUIANOS is only an intermediary and that the "operator" is another company, so it is not clear who to claim. According to the "operator", Baquianos is the company that has the money, but they do not know if they work on weekends. In other words, they are partners, but they do not know their working hours, and BAQUIANOS since Sunday has not given an answer via WhatsApp, subject to returning what they consider and when they consider it. In summary, the tour activity to Cabo de la Vela with this agency is a terrible option, if something happens during the weekend there is only one left and no backup, between the operator and the agency they do not even know the working hours, They do not have coordination with the accommodation, food, or transportation sites.Written October 19, 2021
- Philipp_Wien830 contributionsNever again BaquianosI booked a trip to Parque Tyrona through Baquianos. The organization was absolutely chaotic. There was not a single English-speaking guide with. Included in the price was a pick up and drop off from the hotel. On the way home I was suddenly taken out of the bus and into a cab. Then the taxi driver drove with me for another 20 minutes to refuel. This provider I can definitely not recommendWritten August 18, 2021
- diazdita0 contributionsOnemustplacetovisitExcellent attention, the landscapes are surrealist inside and in the middle absolutely nothing makes you deel you really leave the city and can really enjot the advetureWritten March 8, 2020
- Fearless6806840 contributionsAMAZING TOURI found Baquianos through a partner company and didn't regret its choice. The tour was organised thoroughly. Plenty of preliminary information was given, the guide Carlos and interpreter Enrique were knowledgeable, available at any time and we have had a lot of fun. The accommodation, food /cooked for us at any place we were stopping/, the care of the environment and the respect to the local indigenous people lifestyle and beliefs, deserve emphasis as well.Written February 5, 2020
- Katiecanada20130 contributionsLost City TrekOur trek with Baquianos was great. We toured with a group of 15 and had a guide, assistant guide and interpreter. We were well fed and the guides were prepared and knew the trails well. Conditions are tough, especially with rain. So come well prepared to be wet!Written February 2, 2020

- mark67ML0 contributionsFantastic tripThe Ciudad Perdida hike was all that we expected. A strenuous hike, an informative and friendly guide (Luis) who kept us moving appropriately, good food, nice sleeping arrangements given the conditions, nice swimming holes, and a beautiful endgame. I would ask for Luis if arranging this trip for someone else. Addition to their list - bring a small camp towel.Written January 14, 2020
- Charlotte T0 contributionsFive day trek to Lost CityWe were on the trek to the lost city and it was very beautiful. For us it was more the journey to the attraction than the attraction itself (since it was filled with tourists) We were a small group, a guide and a translator. We learned a lot about the culture and area and the pace was suitable for the whole group. Sleeping facilities were very basic but nice and food and snack stops were very good. Would highly recommend to all.Written January 13, 2020

- Dave L0 contributionsAmazing, challenging hike to the Lost City!Loved this opportunity to hike to the Ciudad Perdida! Just so you know, this is a challenging hike -- think 8-9 hours hiking each day, with many long uphill stretches. Know your limits! Definitely worth the value for those seeking this experience, food along the route was amazing, Don Carlos was an incredibly knowledgeable, physically fit guide, and accommodations were perfect. However, I would have liked to have a guide specialized in giving knowledge about the Lost City once we arrived. All in all, definitely worth it and would highly recommend!Written January 3, 2020
- tmclck0 contributionsNice trip, but beware of theftWe did the Lost city trek. The overal trip was nice, and we cannot complain about the guide. For an adventuring type it might be a bit too luxurious (with a cook also trekking with us, the food was nice). However, in the third basecamp, we were told we could hang our clothes to dry during while we went up to the archeological site. When retrieving my clothes, my brand new hiking pants (100 euro value) was missing. Appearently (we were not told), I hung it just outside of the view of the camera. Because I don't think people do a five day hike to steal clothes they already have, I suspect someone from the basecamp to have stolen this. They were the only ones who know the item was just outside of camera reach, and also had the opportunity to do so. Furthermore, they were not helpfull, since we did not payed them directly (everything went via Baquianos). I was not heard when trying to fille a complaint to this camp (our guide said it was too bad, but nothing could be done), and when filling in a form to rate the trip at the end, we could not even rate the accomodations. I have mailed Baquianos about this, but after two weeks I am still awaiting a respons.Written January 2, 2020

I had an amazing trek to the lost city, the guide the translator and the cooker are amazing people they take care of us all the time, they know how to do their job, have a lot of knowledge about everything in the trek and about the food and they are very friendly. I recommend baquianos to do the trip, they are experts in that trek.
The lost city is one of the trip that you can’t loose. Since you star until you finish everything is wonderful, and you make amazing new friends.

Hey Globedo, thanks for this kind review. We are happy to know it was a amazing trip for you, and of course, we are experts in this. We was the first company 33 years ago to take travelers to the Lost City, thus, we have a huge experience doing this. And, as you said, this is an unique trip that nobody can miss, in fact, some years ago, Lonely Planet ranked Lost City as the best trekking in South America.
Take care and we hope to see ypu again.
Best regards.

We recently went to Ciudad Perdida with this tour company and we were very satisfied. The cook Carlos made delicious meals and was very flexible with regards to allergies. Our guides Miguel and Andres were super knowledgeable about everything along the way, and if you kept on asking they could go on forever explaining things. The infrastructure along the trek is really good with well-equipped camp sites. But do remember mosquito repellant and remember that this hike can be extremely hot at times.

The Lost City trek far surpassed my expectations. This is definitely a trip that should not be missed! The lush, dense jungle is beautiful with many birds and plants that are unfamiliar to us in the USA. The trail passes several indigenous villages and the guides are able to provide information as to how they live. The Lost City itself is much more vast than I expected and, with the guides' help, the trekker is able to envision what it was like to live there 700 years ago. The trek itself is challenging, but doable for anyone that is in reasonable fitness condition.

After 4 days of walking, ups&downs, 60 km and lots of sweat, we arrived in the lost city. We are very proud to see that indigenous panomara. we left with the agency baquianos - very good decision. Our guide pedro was our motivator. He told us the whole history of the natives and of how the Sierra de Santa Marta has gone through drastic changes to become a protected sector. Thanks also to Enrique who translated us and helped us in everything and patri the assistant who became a friend.
the food was very good, I did not have high expectations because I thought that as we were going to be walking through the jungle it would be very basic. but they surprised me, it was delicious the best was the fried fish of the first day, the cook Pipe was very aware of our wishes, he prepared coffee or chocolate in the afternoon and at night, the amounts of food were perfect for energy that we need for the Trekking

Myself and two friends had an amazing time on this trek. It was 100% worth doing. Our guide Miller was a great guy; very knowledgeable, seemed to know everyone on the trail, and made sure we were the first group to the top of the lost city. As a result we had amazing photos and had the place to ourselves for a while! Miller also took us to the best camps to make sure we had the option to swim after each day - something that other tour companies didn’t do. We were also very surprised at how good the food.

An incredible 4 day adventure! It’s tough but so worth it and the amazing group of guides/translator/cook get you through it. Big shout out to Carlos - his positivity and constant giggles provide much needed entertainment during the trek. He’s such a sweetheart and he really helped us when we needed motivating. Sebastian aka Charlo - a wonderful translator who couldn’t have been more helpful and kind. He taught us so much about the Sierra Nevada and the indigenous communities who live there. Ferney was also really helpful, he carried my friend’s bag when she was unwell and was overall great company! Samuel was our incredible cook - the food/snacks were amazing, just what we needed after a day of hiking!

Very smooth trip up to the Lost City. Excellent food (and a lot of it), comfortable and clean beds, convenient swimming holes, wonderful guides. These guys clearly read reviews and make regular changes, because this trip is run like a well oiled machine. Bravo to Baquinos, and a special shout out to our amazing guides Danielle, Andres, and Pepe. You guys brought the trip from great to unforgettable. I especially appreciated the respect and reverence our guides showed the Indigenous People of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Incredible experience to walk this track with this team: The guides : El Tigre and Daniel, Deivis (el Cocinero), El Indio (Fabián), and Sergio- the two translators . This team were very punctual, attentive, committed and knowledgeable. They practiced safety at all times with attention to detail. This is the second time I have done the tour with Baquianos and it’s still an unforgettable experience. I would recommend this tour with this team to other tourists. The description of the package is exactly what you get. The camps are basic, the food is plenty, the walking is hard but totally worth it. It’s a hard track for 4 days which builds resilience and great team work.

We did the 4-day trek with our three tour guides: Miller, Daniel and Samuel. They were lovely and friendly guys. Miller was the main guide, he was very experienced and knowledgeable and took great care of the group. He arranged for our group to be up the first up in Cuidad Perdida and we had the place to ourselves for the first hour and a half. It was so picturesque up there, it was absolutely spectacular. Our chef, Alberto, was a really good cook and the food was lovely for the four days. There was a coeliac and a vegetarian in our group and they were both accommodated for. I would highly recommend Baquianos for this trek. The trek was challenging at times with the heat and humidity so some level of fitness is required.

This adventure was definitely a trip of a lifetime. It had been on my "bucket list" and I was so grateful to be able to travel here in 2021. The Teyuna guides who escorted our group were no less than heroic! The travel agency itself was instrumental in setting up my trip and accommodations (and answering all my questions and supportive and attentive to any need I had). I could not have made the trip work so well without them and they were impeccably reliable!! The actual trek was an amazing experience, and though, yes, very arduous, the people, the places, were all so truly hospitable and eye-opening and beautiful. An incredibly unique combination of supported and unconditioned at the same time. I can't recommend this trip or Baquianos and Teyuna more highly!! I hope you get to enjoy this experience in this lifetime!!

Do you need to have heavy duty hiking boots for this trek?
Written February 14, 2020
I did it with trail shoes which was fine. Yes I got wet feet, but the shoes dried quickly when the sun came out. There is quite a bit of downhill, so boots better maybe if you have ankle or knee problems and need the support.

Is some where in santa marta a possibility to buy some trekking clothes?
Apart from that is it necessary to use shoes when there is a river crossing?
Kind regards

Hi SeMa021020171
Here in Santa Marta you can buy trekking clothes in the Éxito Supermarket or in any sports shop, for example, Tuttos sport.
Apart, is necessary to use shoes to cross the river because the stones are slippery.
Kind Regards, Baquianos Team.
