Best guide in the comuna (Kevin)
The tour guide Kevin was amazing. The best guide I ever had. Was an amazing person and super welcoming. He showed us around the comuna and even let us watch a soccer game played by the locals which was the highlight of our night.

      Great trip but too long
This tour is interesting and our guide was lovely, authentic and knowledgeable but it took four hours and really could have been done in two. At the end it felt we were obliged to stop at various places so we could spend more money, which I understand but it all felt a bit too commercial in the end. Very well organised transportation with nice touches of ice cream and bus fares already sorted.

Incredible tour with our guide Kevin, what a guy! Gave us a lot of information on and insight into Comuna 13’s history, how the neighborhood changed and how he helped contribute to that change…overall 10/10 tour, recommend it to anyone looking to visit Medellin!

      Excellent Tour
This was an excellent tour with a really knowledgeable guide (Oscar). We normally don’t do tours but this was a fantastic way to get to know about this historic neighborhood. We learned lots about Medellin and Colombia.

      Well worth a visit
I would highly recommend a visit, ideally, with a local guide to support the area. Our guide was an ex drug addict who had really turned his life around. It's a very vibrant area and perfectly safe. However it was much busier and commercial than I had expected, although a lot of fun. Some excellent street art, hip hop, break dancing, street food - and lots of shops and stalls. The escalators were a great innovation. This place now gets more visitors than anywhere else!

WHAT A TRULY MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE THIS WAS !!!!
WOW WOW WOW, what an amazing Tour and fantastic Tour Guide, thank you WALTER. I rarely go on organised tours but I am so glad I went on Comuna 13 Graffiti Tour as the sites and sounds were outstanding and I will remember these forever. WALTER has such a huge knowledge of the Comuna (he was brought up there) and everyone seemed to know him, which enhance the feeling I got of belonging. He is putting back into his community by showing us tourists the area and sharing his huge knowledge of the Comuna's history....he even sponsors one of the huge painted graffiti pieces. I do not want to spoil your experience so all I will say is this is by far and away the best 4 hours I have spent since I have been travelling Central American in the past 4 weeks. Thank you WALTER and the people of Comuna 13 for being so friendly and welcoming.

      An outstanding experience
The tour was absolutely fantastic. Oscar was an amazing guide, providing us very clear, informative and in the same time personal accounting of the history of the Comuna 13 as he was grown down the hill. For being a graffiti artist himself and having contributed to some of the wall paintings in Comuna 13, it was as if an inhabitant opened us the door of the Comuna and welcomed us. We were there my wife and I and our three kids, and all agreed it was our best experience in Medellin. A must.

      A must see tour!!
Sebastian (Crazy Face) is one of the best tour guides and performers that I’ve ever experienced. His personal knowledge of Communa 13 and his connection to the neightbood made us feel like we were with a celebrity. He made the tour very personal, welcoming and the history relatable. The experience of understanding the transition of this neighborhood from what is was to what it is, was insightful and inspiring. I would highly recommended!!

If you’re visiting Communa 13, you MUST go with a Casa Kolacho guide! The most authentic and local experience to have!
I wanted to do a Communa 13 tour and my friend recommended @graffititourcasakolacho on Instagram. And what a great recommendation that was! First off - we were lucky that no one else booked that day so we had a private tour. Sara, our tour guide was so amazing - she grew up in the area, is friends with lots of the people in the suburb and really helps you understand how Communa 13 has evolved over time. She is super friendly and knowledgeable and kind, and really made us feel like we have a new friend in Colombia. She is part of the Casa Kolacho community which is an organisation that helps the youth and people in Communa 13 express themselves through art, graffiti, music, dance, and so much more. It’s an amazing organisation that really reflects the authenticity of the area. Sara taught us all about the complex history of the area - explaining the good and bad in a really informative way. She taught us about the graffiti art, explaining the symbolism and a bit of context on each of the artists as well. We saw hip hop dancers, tried local street food, tasted delicious Colombian coffee, and even tried a delicious mango verde popsicle which was so tasty. The tour finished at Casa Kolacho, the community centre that has become a home to so many. There, we even got to do our own graffiti tag on a wall which was so much fun! If you’re looking for a really fun and authentic experience that supports the local community then look no further. Book your Communa 13 tour with Casa Kolacho!

      Incredible Tour, Highly Recommend 🇨🇦🇨🇴
This was an incredible tour with lots of information about the history and culture not only of Comuna 13 but also Medellin in general. We booked a private tour to accommodate my 81 year old Grandpa and they gave us a reasonable price. Our guide was Oscar who was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and kind. If I could give 6/5 stars I would.

      Waste of time and money
The tour guide was very nice, but overall a giant waste of time and money. It’s outrageously overpriced my local standards. Very little of the actual tour is spent looking at graffiti. Instead, hours are spent on public transportation and waiting around and taking breaks. Moreover, the tour doesn’t go anywhere that you couldn’t easily discover as a tourist by yourself, even if you don’t speak Spanish. I’d highly recommend avoiding.

A day wasted: much better to do on your own
The Comuna 13 Tour took over 5 hours (advertised as four) and only involved half an hour actually walking around Comuna 13, which is now completely safe and touristy around the escalators. Our guide, while a charming young Colombian, delivered a 45 minute lecture on the history of the comuna while our group of 9 stood on a metro cable platform, which was a completely one-sided and inaccurate account praising the army, police, and paramilitaries for forcing out the guerrillas and making the arrea safe again. We spent half an hour on an unrequested and unnecessary beer break at a buddy’s bar, and took a short detour down an empty set of stairs and then back to the main walkway which our guide claimed was an experience of the “real, authentic, non-touristic” Comuna 13. At 90,000 COP, I felt cheated out of one of my three free days in Medellin. Do it yourself.

      Very smooth, comfortable, educational tour
We booked through "Get your guide" and had a really fun tour with English-speaking guide Walter, who was highly competent, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable (injecting some of his own personal experiences into the discussion). It was a busy holiday weekend, but Walter did a great job keeping everyone together and showing us quite a lot of Comuna 13. Highly recommend this tour!

We enjoyed this tour but 2 out of 3 hours was spent on public transport including the cable car. During the cable car ride (which lasted around 45 min), Walter didn't share too much information to set the context about the place, Medellin, etc.
The tour itself was good, and Walter talked about the graffiti, significant past events in the area etc., but didn't go into as much depth as I would've liked, especially given that it's a paid tour focused on a small part of the larger Medellin city.

Comuna 13 is interesting and worth seeing but the tour was poorly planned. We had 23 people and one guide and it took 2 hours more than it said it would. The guide did not reveal anything interesting about the art or the area. Disappointing.

We had a really great tour in Comuna 13 with our Guid, Hernan! We saw the city from the cable car and he explained about the history of comuna 13 before we went to Comuna 13 to see the graffiti and the area! Hernan was very passionate and well informed. He calmly explained everything to detail and could answer all our questions! He seemed very friendly with the people in the area. He also showed us diferente parts of the city going to and from comuna 13! Would definitely recommend 👍🏼

Walter took us on one of the greatest walking tours ever. He speaks perfect English and has done this tour over 3,000 times (!!!) so he knows his stuff...

His comments on the history of Medellin and Comuna 13, including the social aspects and the effects of the government in integrating the various communities were fascinating.

The cable cars have provided access for the poorer residents to come down from their hillside homes and have allowed tourists and gringos (like me) to visit places like Comuna 13.

The graffiti on the walls, the performing dancers, the boutique shops and the street life are not to be missed. You really feel this tour. You aren't just looking out some tour bus window or wandering around with other tourists going into churches, museums and overpriced shops and restaurants.

Don't worry, it is perfectly safe and the locals look to tourists to support their businesses and could not be friendlier.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring your camera.

And make sure to tip your guide well. What is usually a small amount of money to us (especially considering the overall cost of our trips) is a lot of money to them.... and they deserve it.

Not worth the money - spend more time just using Medillin’s public transport than seeing comuna 13.

Normally I go on free walking tours funded by tips, but this was on a Sunday and the only tour I could find running that day. Would have had felt generous tipping half the amount it cost.

We had 14 people in our group, yet the tour was priced for a small group it seemed (90 mil pesos). We met at 3 with our guide who was from Chicago and spoke good English, but spent the first hour travelling on the metro to ride one stop on the cable car. It was only there that we could really hear some proper information from the guide after we got off - we were too many and couldn’t fit in the same cable car to chat on the way. After a brief chat we then took the cable car down, rode the metro and then a bus to comuna 13 and then walked up and back, before riding the bus again and the metro. In 13 there was barely any explanation about any graffiti except when we specifically asked (tried to refer to take another tour they offered). On the bus back asked about what we could do the next day and what would be open in Medillin as it was a public holiday, and only response got was a flyer for another tour he was pushing for cocoa, and he said nothing useful and cares too much about just trying to make money.

In hindsight, tour wasn’t worth much more than the bus/metro fares they paid.

Hello Andrew, we only had one guide available on Sunday because it was a holiday weekend AND the when the guide agreed to work there were 7 guests booked on the tour and 7 guests booked last minute for the tour. We have been hosting a local experience for 8 years which includes a ride on the metro, cable car and bus, which the vast majority of guests truly enjoy. There is no other way to get to the community unless you take a taxi or Uber, but that is not the experience tour companies provide to Comuna 13. As you mentioned, it was a National holiday the next day on Monday and most businesses are closed and we know many travelers arrive not knowing it's a holiday, many are left with nothing to do with many businesses closed for the day, the guide offered to work on the holiday, provided guests with information on what to do on Monday the holiday, 5 of the guests on the tour with you signed up for the tour on Monday and had a great time exploring another part of the city. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the overall experience. Hope that you enjoy the rest of your time in Medellín.

We were one of the first post pandemic tourists to take this and was not disappointed. We had Walter for a guide and his knowledge of everything really made the tour extra special. We first met up at the metro station, a short distance further to the San Javier station where we rode the gondola to the top for some amazing views of the city. Afterwards we did the Comuna 13 tour. Things are just opening up from the pandemic but possibly this made it extra special as we were the only tourists there with no crowds. Amazing mural painting's, views and try the refreshing popsicle that your tour guide will do a short stop for!

I highly recommend this tour! It was the perfect balance between fun and educational. Our guide Walter provided extensive insight into the politics and history of the Comuna and Medellín and was more than happy to answer any questions we had. I felt like I learned so much about the city and Walter expertly explained the meaning behind the murals of Comuna 13. Hearing the stories behind the art is something I will never forget and really helped me better understand the culture of the neighborhood, the City, and Colombia.

The views of the City from Comuna 13 are amazing and there is lots to be entertained by along the tour—including a rap battle that had everyone clapping and dancing. If you want to have fun and also learn a lot about the City, you have to book this tour (and ask for Walter if you can)!

I went a guide Dayana . Very friendly very knowledgeable. She comes from the area. She kept our group together ande stops at areas group members found interesting and that were not on the show. She gave us 3 show stops, traditional music, rap dance and stand up comedy. Very amusing, two in Spanish and English. I recommend Dayana as a great tour guide for Spanish and persons who speak English and a little Spanish like myself.

Comuna 13, widely known as the most dangerous community in the past has transformed now into a vibrant tourist spot. The major highlights are the most amazing and colorful street arts mixed with young talents break dancing or free style rapping at the drop of a hat, it's most entertaining. Our tour guide Jason, explained the transformation during our 4 hours tour, he was very thorough and friendly.

Oscar was very knowledgeable and a great guide, no need to hassle on your own with this available. We were able to ride the subway, tram and got some nice history of the community. Would have been nice to stay at the top of the cable car longer but other than that it was pretty nice. Other features were stopping by an art gallery and even got to see a Spanish free style battle at the top of the escalators. Definitely recommend!
