- NewLivingstone0 contributionsFor this price, I had expected a more professional and personalized service.Very interesting tour and fascinating to see the places you have read about in books and seen on television. And incredible to realize that the lovely city that is Medellin now was a war zone thirty years ago due to the narcism of one man. My guide was very knowledgeable about the topic and had answers to all my questions. That said, I did feel more like a number than a true guest. It was a private 1:1 tour, but I did not feel the guide had any interest in the person he spent 4 hours with. He did tell me about his past addictions, which seemed out of place for me. At the Cathedral, he bought water and a chocolate bar for himself and he didn't offer me anything, nor did he even alert me to the fact that I could buy something there. Very strange. He was also was attending personal matters towards the end of the tour. Several times, I had to ask the guide for a moment to take pictures and he never proactively offered to take a picture of me. We had to do everything quickly and I was already back at my Airbnb in less than 4 hours, feeling slightly confused and USD170 poorer. The day before this trip, we had a full day excursion to Guatape with five people including bus, boat tour, lunch and guided tour for the same amount. So in short: It wasn't a bad experience, but for USD170 I do expect a more professional and personalized service.Written January 2, 2025
- iantZ7526JW0 contributionsFantastic private tour of El Peñol and Guatape!I had a fantastic private tour of El Peñol and Guatape with Carlos! Carlos knows all the ins and outs of the area and can cater the tour to what you like. We were able to have great local coffee, snacks and food. 10/10 would recommend going with Carlos. I would also recommend going early to beat the traffic!Written January 2, 2025
- srr11190 contributionsA Great Introduction to MedellinAfter picking us up at our airbnb in Laureles, Carlos led us on a private tour of the city. Included were a ride on the cable cars, a visit to Comuna 13 and the Plaza Boteros. With only a short time to spend in Medellin, we were able to get a good sense of the city, its past, its present and its possible future. Carlos was knowledgeable, engaging and willing to share his thoughts on past and current Colombian events. He even gave us the name of a great coffee shop in the neighborhood where we were staying! I highly recommend this tour to anyone trying to get their initial bearings in this fascinating and beautiful city.Written December 30, 2024
- clairehZ4820VN0 contributionsIncredible OpportunitySuch an incredible, once in a lifetime experience. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone interested in the Escobar family. Gloria was very welcoming and open to any and all question you may have about her, her family, or the cartel. I am very grateful to Medellin travels and Alex the guide/driver/translator for providing this opportunity.Written November 27, 2024
- S24YEwilliamb0 contributionsGreat Day / Great GuideWhat a fabulous tour! We started by taking the Metro and gondola(s) up to Arvi. Fascinating to see the life up in the hills and then encounter a sea of green below. Definitely ask to include a 30-45 min walk into the canopy as part of your tour (and maybe plan to come back for a whole day in the park). Then down to Plaza Botero which was magical including lunch outside overlooking the sculptures and the city life. And finally up to the delightful and colorful chaos and energy of Comuna 13. So much to see, hear, taste and experience. Our guide, Carlos, was amazing. (Carlos Medellin-contact me so I can return your independiente hat) So friendly, thoughtful and filled with interesting stories and anecdotes about Medellin, its history, culture, food. He’s really special and he took extra care to make sure that my mom and I had a fabulous day.Written November 17, 2024

- Adventure5792350 contributionsStunning vistas and a special dayGreat experience! John, our tour guide, picked us up from our hotel in the morning and drove us to Guatape. We climbed the 700 steps to the top of La Piedra to stunning views. Wow! We then drove to the nearby town of Guatape which was quaint, colorful and photogenic. John took us to some good shopping areas for chocolate, coffee, emeralds and other souvenirs. The tour company and John were great and arranged a birthday surprise for one of our tour members at a local restaurant - thank you for making this a memorable and fantastic day for all of us!Written October 1, 2024
- Z8035UDmarkm0 contributionsAndres Gonzales - the best Pablo Escobar tour guideWe took a private Pablo Escobar tour with Andres Gonzales, and he was an excellent guide. We toured the cities where Pablo conducted his life and tried hiding from his enemies. The Parque which the government sponsored as they demolushed his Palace is rather eye opening. The deaths he was involved with amounted to 46k people, so he was truly a wicked man, and a narcissist. Always on the move. Andres was an excellent guide and the tour was quite revealing of the history of Columbia. I highly recommend Andres! He was professional, very knowledgeable and very pleasant. We enjoyed his company and are proud to know him. Take the tour with him; you won't be dissatisfied. He's GREAT!.Written August 23, 2024

- OnAir8017040 contributionsWorth it!This tour was incredible! Carlos was our guide, and he was wonderful. He picked us up on time at our hotel, and took us out to El Penol, telling us about the area and answering all of our questions. El Penol itself is an intense climb, but the views are so worth it! And then we were able to go into the town of Guatape, wander around, and had a great lunch at a restaurant recommended by Carlos. And, after seeing the multiple group tours all being herded around, we were so glad to have booked a private tour-it’s definitely worth the cost! Overall it was a great day and one we will not forget!Written June 14, 2024

- jennamR1280OO0 contributionsAmazing tour guideOut guide John was amazing, he taught us so much about the history of Comuna 13 and what it was like growing up in the city. He was so passionate about this city and made this experience unforgettable for us. He was very accommodating to my grandmother who couldn't walk very well. He was kind and so knowledgeable. I cannot recommend this tour enough, the story of Communal 13 is tragic yet shows the resilience of this city and it's people. John showed us this, and was so great we booked a second tour with him. Cannot recommend this tour and guide more! John and this tour was one fight highlights if our trip to Medellin.Written March 23, 2024

David was a knowledgable, professional and friendly host. Gustavo a proficient and safe driver in both peak hour traffic and the narrow windy roads of Commune 13. Prompt and efficient too w lot of interesting info regarding Medellin. I got a real good start to see and understanding the city in this tour. Thanks guysWritten January 31, 2024

The tour provides an overview of what it was like in Medellín in the 1980s and 90s. This is a part of the city's history and even though it was a tragic time with many horrific events it is still part of the history and impacted how it is today.
The guide Daniela is very professional and gives very good explanations over the society in Medellín and Colombia in general. She is very knowledgeable and attentive guide. She provides honest opinions and answers about all kinds of things which gives you a good perspective of the culture here. I recommend this tour for everyone who wants to know the reality of a sad time in the city's history.

Wow! Incredible tour in an amazing city. Medellin Travels is first class all the way. Early on in my booking process I reached out to Alex to discuss the various options for tours. He responded right away and gave me several options. He has an extensive list of tours and being that I’ve always been intrigued by Pablo Escobar and the Narco history of Colombia I obviously chose the Pablo Escobar Godfather Tour. Alex had me sold when he told me that not only would he take me to all of the sites that encompass Pablo during his reign in Medellin and give me a full history including the Cathedral and gravesite, but he also had the ability to customize my tour to also include a visit to Gloria Escobar’s house, the beloved sister of Pablo himself! It felt very surreal to be able to sit across from her in her apartment and ask her questions while looking through personal family albums. She was incredibly friendly and shared so many stories about her brother throughout his life and even leading up to his last days. An amazing Paisa woman with the ability to captivate her audience. Gloria, it was such a pleasure to meet you!
Also, HUGE shout out to Jorge Figaroa, who was our tour guide on this particular tour, and now my Colombian brother. Felt like I was touring around this beautiful city with a friend that I knew for ever. Jorge had vast wealth of knowledge of Pablo Escobar, and the Narco culture and life in general. Thanks again Jorge!
I would not hesitate booking this tour. Alex and his wife Lina run a first class operation with Medellin Travels with amazing guides. They showed up to my hotel on time, and delivered on every promise. This was truly an amazing tour for my cousin and myself.
Big thanks to Alex, Lina, and Jorge. I truly consider you all as my friends. If you are visiting Medellin I highly recommend reaching out to Medellin Travels, you will not regret it!

Hey brother, thanks so much for saying we run a first-class operation and that we delivered everything that we said and promised.
It was my pleasure to customize your tour to include a visit to the Escobar Family house to interview Gloria and view all of the private family albums, museum and forbidden art.
As you know, this is only available through us, as they are my associates for that rendezvous, once in a lifetime experience.
Of course you guys are our new friends, we love our guests..and it shows!
Lina and I keep in touch with many great guests who we've befriended throughout the years.
Medellin is now your second home.
We'll see you back in the near future.
Til' then habibi, take care and God bless!

Carlos, firstly I wanna say this is so overdue! We went on this tour in June 2019. It was just my friend and I. Carlos was so cool, and a great storyteller throughout the whole tour. He built an entire atmosphere for us in the tour with audio tape recordings and personal anecdotes. The cherry on top, we got lucky at Pablo’s secret prison, and we stepped into a Netflix documentary with none other than Pablo Escobar’s son filming. It got really personal for Carlos. An emotional moment where Netflix was filming their interaction. It added so much emotional gravitas to the tour. Ask him about this when you book him! Maybe you’ll get lucky!

Daniela (our guide) was very informative and genuinely helpful. She gave a balanced account of Pablo's life and told his stories from different perspectives. We visited the main sites, including the house where Pablo was killed, the area in which he grew up, Santa Ana church where he did business, the memorial site for his victims and his grave site. Daniela also pointed out important buildings in Medellín, different parts of the city and provided us with instructions around how to access the metro and cable car system. We also had the opportunity to take some coffee and buneulo which Daniela helped us to order. A very enjoyable tour!

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
The tour did not glamorize Escobar, as we had feared It sought to educate.
The Catedral, which was an add-on, was the best of several great stops. We enjoyed the factual aspects as well s the beautiful location.
The monument to the victims was also excellent, as it underscored the scope and severity of Escobar's war on civil society,

Hey Matthew, thank you so much for reviewing us and for stipulating that our tour does not glamorize Pablo.
We do a neutral, non-biased experience, full of hard facts and personal anecdotes, which makes it very interesting, didactic and fun.
We are elated that you were exposed to a lot of information.

Carlos our guide was very informative, answered all our questions and spoke very good English.
But the tour is overpriced. We did thr catedral , Pablo cemetery and house where he was shot - for $140 each person. Maybe you can get similar tours locally for much cheaper

Rahul,
You stated that Carlos, our guide was very informative, answered all of your questions and spoke great English, etc. If our agency did such a wonderful job, then why do we deserve this mediocre review?
Price??? You didn't pay the price you stated, and even if you did, you booked through Tripadvisor, not directly with us, If they or Expedia or whoever raises the price of our tour, we have no control and it's them that you need to review, not us. When guests book directly with us, we provide free concierge service and don't jack prices up.
If you were to buy a ticket for a concert and the artist did his job, performed lovely, and made you happy, would you honestly go and give him a lousy review because ticketmaster or whoever charged you more???
You mentioned that we took you to La catedral, house where he died and cemetery only, what you didn't mention was that you kept rushing my guide. We took you and your buddies three counties away in the outskirts of Medellin to go see the Hitmens church and Pablo's favorite restaurant and right when you arrived there, you wanted to leave saying " no, no, I want La catedral, lets go now".
Also, did you forget the soccer field Pablo built for the poor? Probably, since you didn't want to get out, only drive by.
How about the Victims memorial park where Pablo's home once stood...remember that?
You were reluctant to get out of the car when Carlos took you there as well.
So using the concert example above, if you walk out in the middle of a Metallica concert or Britney Spears or whatever because you don't feel like staying, is it the bands fault?
Last you proceed to tell others to find another tour cheaper than ours, endorsing them without having taken other tours.
We are in the know, on the inside my friend, the Escobar family are my direct associates for an experience we have with them, exclusively through us ONLY, can one meet them and go to the Escobar family house.
How much does privileged inside info cost compared to the numerous fly by night mickey mouse tours that don't know a lick of Pablo or fluent English for that matter and just want to make a quick buck by lying to tourists and making up fake stories?
We know what we're worth and don't reveal inside info for minimum wage, sorry.
In closing, Carlos unfortunately will not received his 6 month bonus because of this review just so you know.
Take care,
Alex from Medellintravels.com

Daniela was a great tour guide. She was on-time, communicated very well, and filled the experience with a lot of knowledge. Her English was perfect too.
We learned a lot about Pablo Escobar. A lot of the Narcos TV show is not exactly accurate so we were interested in the true story.
One of the good things about this tour is going to the north and south parts of the city, so it's almost a bit like a end to end tour of Medellin too. I recommend and I recommend Daniela if possible!

Greetings, thank you for booking with Medellin Travels, the top private tour company in Medellin.
Affirmative, only we take our clients through 4 counties, therefore our Pablo tour is also much like a city tour.
We appreciate the fact that you emphasized our puntuality, knowledge and perfect English.
All of or guides were born in Medellin and also lived abroad, therefore we are fluent in both languages and know the Idiosyncracies of other cultures.
I will let Daniela know that she received a lovely review.
Again, thanks, don't forget to refer us to friends and family!

BF and I only had a few days in Medellín and I spent a lot of time looking for a solid, dependable tour company. Glad I chose this one and Veronica was great!! You can tell she really cares about the clients and making sure they have a great time in Colombia in general. She warned me about accidentally flashing cash in a market (it was our first day in Colombia) and had the driver leave us off at a great restaurant in Poblado. Did the Catedral add on and everything was fascinating. (She also takes great photos). The company does have unique ties to the Escobar family but they didn't glamorize Pablo. Prompt pickup from our hotel in Laureles. We especially loved that Veronica answered any general questions we had about Colombia while driving between locations. Definitely the highlight of the trip.

This tour was such an amazing and memorable tour! Jorge was our tour guide and i 100% recommend him as the tour guide! Hes fluent in both english and spanish. We did the pablo escobar tour and the City of colombia tour with him and we absolutely loved every minute! It was a full day tour for both tours to be completed. He personally knew so many details that it would've been difficult to know had it been a different tour guide.
Definitely book this tour and all for Jorge!!

Their customer care was un profesional . I call multiple times to arrange and get reassurance over the safety but was met with hostility because I mentioned about the issues across the country due to the upcoming elections.
Thank you very much for my terrible expirence that put me off from travelling when I was asking questions about the tour . And their response was they could have sold a bigger tour and made more money .

Hello...I was here in August and took the tour with the be guide ever. I am back in Medellin...will be here until Jan. 5th. I'd like to get in touch with that guy, but can't remember his name. He's a boxer and I'd like to train while I'm here. He also knows where I can get a good haircut. He is a tall, thin guy. This is probably a long shot, but worth a try. I was here with my girlfriend. I'm really tall and from Chicago.
