- rw6500 contributionsBogota-Cartagena Colombia with La Guia Travel info@laguiacartagenera.comMy sons and I recently took a spontaneous trip to Colombia. We were absolutely blown away by the trip planning of Nimia 🦋@laguiatravelco, the owner of La Guia Travel info@laguiacartagenera.com. La Guia Travel arranged every move we requested, from the airport to the hotel, to the tours, restaurants, and everything in between, ALL coordinated via whatsapp +57 318 7591665. Best investment I made in traveling to Colombia La Guia Travel showcased the beauty and diversity of the country. We started the trip in Bogota, the capital city, which is a vibrant and cosmopolitan metropolis. We loved exploring the historic center, visiting the Gold Museum, and hiking up to Our Lady Guadalupe for stunning views of the city. From Bogota, We took a short flight to Cartagena, a charming colonial city on the Caribbean coast. We spent nights at the Hyatt Regency, days swimming in the crystal-clear water, exploring the old town, and dancing the night away in the salsa clubs. Our next stop was Palenque, hosted by must-see Paleque tv host @jerminpadillavaldes. Palenque was declared by Unesco a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Palenque is the first official free town in the Americas and a corner of Africa in Colombia. When I say free, I mean it is home to the descendants of Africans who escaped to Colombia in the 17th century and home of boxing champion Kid Pambelè. We learned about the rich culture and history of Palenque and even got to try some traditional dishes. Our last stop in Cartagena, was Bora Bora Island, a stunning resort 1 hour away. We spent time swimming and celebrating the next chapter of life. We couldn't have asked for a better trip, and we owe it all to our travel guides Nimia 🦋@laguiatravelco. who we used for all our planning, despite short notice and it was spot on. The hosts selected by Nimia 🦋@laguiatravelco were full of useful information, and they helped me make the most of my time in Colombia. If you're thinking about visiting Colombia, I highly recommend it. It's a beautiful country with a lot to offer visitors. And be sure to use Nimia 🦋@laguiatravelco to help you plan your trip.Written August 31, 2023

- Z9911XDleonardov0 contributionsIncredible experience in PalenqueI had a fantastic experience in Palenque. The tour was exceptional, and everything surpassed my expectations. The transportation provided was very comfortable, and both the local tour guide and the lunch served were excellent. I highly recommend taking this tour with this company because it offers a fantastic opportunity to explore another part of Colombia's Afro history. You won't regret it!Written July 28, 2023
- Hope25220 contributionsWell-organised tour of Palenque, would definitely recommend!I really enjoyed my trip to Palenque with La Guía Travel Company, it was well organised. A private car came to pick us up and the driver José was really friendly and patient. The company provided us with a big bottle of water and a giant umbrealla, which was handy for both the sun and the rain. Lunch was also included in the price and was so delicious! The tour was led by the local guide Alberto who explained the history behind the murals and statues we visited within the Palenque village. He also took us to a music studio where we got to meet a member of the successful local music band Kombilesa Mi and we got the opportunity to do an improvised music session with them. We also went to a muesum where we learnt more about the Palenque history and got to interact with their traditional artefacts. In the muesum we saw an exhibition of the hairstyles enslaved Africans would braid into their hair and use as escape maps to lead them to the Palenque village! Lastly, we went to see the traditional medicine man who talked us through the natural remedies used within the Palenque community and at the end of the talk a local group gave a music and dance performance. We finished the tour with a tasty lunch and was dropped off back our accomdation. Overall I enjoyed every second and would definitely recommend this experience, especially those looking to learn more about the African disapora. I'm so grateful for all the knowledge and creativity that was shared and the thoughtful way in which the tour was organised. It's an experience I'll cherish forever!Written July 13, 2023
- bellecreole0070 contributionsSan Basilio de Palenque TourOur tour guide, Nimia, picked us up from our hotel. She was right on time! Nimia kept us abreast every step of the way. The drive time was about an hour, and along the way she explained everything. Upon arrival, we were given umbrellas, because it was very hot, and a bottle of water. Our visit to San Basilio de Palenque was wonderful! It was very educational and meeting the locals was great! It was also great that we were able to support this community. And it was all due to Nimia! She was knowledgeable, easy going, everything was well organized, the tour was not rushed, and she made our experience memorable! That is why I highly recommend La Guia Travel Company. Thank you Nimia! Marjorie P.S. Please bring pesos so you can support the village, from the dancers to the vendors.Written July 5, 2023

I'm not a big reviewer, but we had a really awesome tourist experience with this. Several places I 100% wouldn't have seen on my own. The group was super fun, and our guia kept everyone involved and happy. Good way to have a planned night out.

I am a retired US soldier, currently I live in Cartagena, for five years I ha never tried the Salsa Crawl. I had a friend who was visiting and wanted to go. We both went and had a great time. It was 100% better than what I thought it would be also meaning the new people who were part of the group. It showed us other person in Cartagena. I had not seen I would Highly. recommend it to all who come to lease go enjoy yourself, meet new people and dance. If you don’t go, you’re cheating yourself out of a good time. In the future of my friends come, I will take them on the Salsa Crawl so I can expose them to the local culture people, fools and dance. This is something you must include in your itinerary while you’re here in Cartagena. Maybe I will see you on one when you’re visiting.

I have now gone on 2 different Salsa Crawls with La Guia Cartagenera and must share how great they were.
The first was the Intro Salsa Crawl that takes place in the walled city. We walked to four different clubs - all very different and all super easy to get to. One was a famous old salsa bars with a long reputation. Another was a much newer, hipper club. One was hidden on the most beautiful street in Cartagena, and the last was sort of a hidden bar with a few old men who became the highlight of our dancing evening.
In the first bar we had a lesson. Nimia and Jacob led about 15 of us in the basic steps. At first I was concerned that there were a lot more women on the crawl than men, but Nimia is incredibly skilled at Salsa and was an amazing partner as she and Jacob moved from person to person helping us. Salsa is also quite easy to do by yourself, or just around other single people, so we all danced pretty hard for that hour.
At the next bar we had some time to dance but also get to know each other a bit. It was nice to start to bond with the other Crawlers. Occasionally the club put on other types of music, so we got the special treat of learning a little Champeta as well.
At the third bar more dancing, more getting to know each other, and a surprise encounter with a group of Brazilians doing their own line dancing.
The last bar was my favorite. It was like a little hole in the wall with a few old men sitting against the wall. By now we all felt super comfortable with each other and dancing. When one of the crawlers agreed to dance with the oldest man, we all thought we would die with laughter. He was having so much fun we were worried he would dance himself to death! But more than that, it was a glimpse into what Salsa is for Colombians. We got a glimpse at how much a part of them this dance is, and how deeply they feel it.
Overall, this was a super special experience where I learned things, made friends, and laughed the night away.
The second crawl was the Local Salsa Crawl that took us out of the tourist areas and into the “real” Cartagena. I have no words for this tour - it was such a unique and fascinating thing to do.
Again we went to a handful of clubs. At one we focused on skills. Some people were beginners and some were quite advanced. Nimia and Gustavo spent time with each person as well as leading group learning moments.
Once our skills were tuned up, we went to two places that blew my mind.
The first was outside, on a street corner really. About a hundred chairs were setup facing a concession stand type of bar. The chairs were filled with locals, mostly middle-aged or older, drinking beer, talking and dancing. And the dancing was EPIC! Seeing locals at their own gathering place dancing the night away was something to see. We felt like we were getting a glimpse of a part of Cartagena culture that you’d never see in the tourist areas. It felt real, and raw, like a block party you’d dream about going to but have never seen materialize. Several older men danced with us until we couldn’t dance anymore. They pushed us to do more turns that I thought I knew how to do. Whatever skill level we had, they worked with.
At the last club we were in a massive room that was packed with young locals, and there was barely room on the dancefloor. Here we saw couples dancing in an incredibly intimate way that was so impressive and sexy at the same time. It was like a modern day dirty dancing movie.
To be immersed in the local culture is difficult to describe but it’s an experience that moves you. Instead of seeing the culture via buildings and stores and street performers, you could FEEL the culture running through you.
Both tours are amazing fun, and I’m so fortunate to have gotten to take both during my stay.
Thank you Nimia and friends for two amazing nights. I can’t wait to come back and do them all over again!!!

I went on the salsa crawl, which took us to some salsa places outside of centro. We took a van and had the chance to hear and learn a bit about the history of salsa on our journey out. The salsa places were fantastic - the first was a real local 'on-the-corner' experience, that I never would have found or tried as a tourist, but the locals in the bar were happy to show us some moves and our guide made it a lot of fun. After that, we went to a salsa club, where there was plenty of room to practice some moves, before heading to a really popular local club to dance the night away, before heading back to centro for one last dance closer to our hotel. Our guide, Nimia, was really knowledgeable and a great teacher. I would recommend this to anyone who wants an off-the-tourist-track experience.
