        Emerald buying in Cartegena
We visited Mr. Emerald in Cartegena. If you are looking for quality emeralds and good prices, go there. Also, the owner, Leland Miles is an American.

        Great experience
Absolutely a great experince for a great cause. Our student teacher was so pleasant and helpful. During my class, the we made a necklace, bracelet and ring each containing an unpolished Emerald. I purchased the earrings as a gift and got the ring for myself.

An interesting way of discovering Emeralds
For someone who didn’t know much of what makes a good emerald, this tour was simple and informative. We were three women and one was my 18 year old daughter, she was interested which made this a great experience. An activity to do during the hottest hours of the day! The tour ends up in the showroom where they will show you the jewelry. I am not a fan of emeralds but still ended up buying a little souvenir. Really appreciated the service and how they managed the tax free forms. A very good way of getting to know the emerald mining process too.

Very interesting museum with lifelike mine setup. Tour guide was very good and knowledgeable. I bought a few pieces of jewelry from the store below, very reasonable.

Caribe Jewelers (museum) is a SCAM!
IT IS A SCAM. TRIP ADVISOR NEEDS TO TAKE IT OFF ITS LIST. NO MUSEUM AND THEY LIED about the jewelry they sell. They sold us a cheap stone called Green Beryl as a low grade Emerald. A green Beryl is on the same family but It is not an Emerald no way no how. A large green beryl ring will sell for under $100 U.S. all over the Internet. My poor husband paid way more than that! I like the ring...I'm not a fancy previous stone kind of person, but I hate that they outright lied straight faced to us and charged him hundreds of dollars extra. We even researched which stores can be trusted. DO NOT TRUST THE SALES PEOPLE. THEY EVEN SAID THEY GAVE US CERTIFICATES OF THEIR AUTHENTICITY. I CANT FIND THEM ANYWHERE.

        FUN
This was a fun, informative museum tour! Michelle was lovely and helpful, we had a wonderful time learning and touring this place. The shop is also really good, a great place to make a purchase if you always wanted to buy an emerald )! But no pressure if you don't. Go visit anyway )!

        Great tour and store experience
We had the best experience with Michelle here. The tour of the museum we received was super informative and interesting. After the tour, Michelle was more than helpful when choosing an item from the store and answering any questions we had

        Plain jewellery designs
Note this is mainly a shop with museum attached. There are two locations - larger one (original) in Boccogrande and the smaller museum and shop in the Old City. Impromptu tours are possible any time if you walk into the store as any of the salespeople can take you through. The museum was interesting but I was mainly there to make a purchase. The shops were relaxed - no one pushing you to buy. I went to all three stores (there is a third shop in the old city) and found the designs to be a little plain and poorly displayed - not much of the display cabinets were well lit, and in fact some lights in the shop weren’t even on which made the cabinets look dark. Overall the prices seemed ok but I found nicer designs in other stores.

It’s worth a stop if you’re planning on buying an emerald.
Our tour guide showed us this place, saying it is a must see. In our opinion it’s ok, learning about different types of emeralds was interesting. But a must see, not unless you plan on buying an emerald.

Great learning opportunity on the Emerlads of Columbia !
Great overview of understanding emeralds in Columbia and how they are mined and polished. A great learning opportunity for stone and jewellery lovers! You enter the museum and get a tour of the emerald process and see various types of emeralds in their raw and polished forms. Afterwards you are given the opportunity to browse the available stones (in gold and silver) and can decide if you would like to buy or not. There is no pressure to buy which is nice ! Our tour was in English and our tour guide George was great. They are ready to answer all your questions. If you decide to buy they resize your ring for free and prepare all the paperwork needed for tax recollection (if you are foreign). Definitely recommend visiting !

Informative Place that was an Unexpected High Point of the Trip to Cartagena.
Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. She took us through the history of emeralds, how they are processed, how they are graded and the ways in which they are incorporated into jewelry. The tour was just with my travel companion and I, so there was time to ask questions and the pace of the tour was one that we set. When we arrived the location was relatively un-cluttered, but while we were there a group from a cruise ship arrived and things got compressed. In the end, there is a jewelry showroom with strong retail offerings at a wide variety of price points. So there is an element to the tour that is a calculated expense to connect with visitors to drive sales. But, that reality did not feel pushy, high pressured, or gratuitous. This is a great use of an hour (or more if shipping ensues) and a reason to see the downtown area of Cartagena. The location is secure and well air conditioned. It is accessible for those that cannot walk.

        Worthwhile
They explain the history of emeralds world wide with naturally an emphasis on Colombia emeralds. Of course they have jewelry store selling all types of emerald products.

        Not your usual, walking tour!
I was on a Viking tour and this was one of the excursions that was offered. Because I had some issues with one of my knees I didn’t want to go on the walking tour and instead selected to go here as it was a jewelry making class. It was a lot of fun! It was interesting to hear about the emeralds and to make the pieces (very easy) with the instructor. On our tour, they let you keep one of the four pieces you made, and you could buy the other three for a very reasonable price in my opinion. The quality of the emerald for your project is rough, non-polished and you do end up with a unique item. The instructors are young people that I believe are learning, the craft of jewelry making. That being said, they were very helpful and friendly. After the class you get a short trip through their museum and then they let you downstairs into the store. Of course, the store has very expensive pieces but I was able to purchase several pieces at a reasonable price and was happy with what I bought. I would definitely want to go again, but with more money ;-)

I enjoyed the lecture and the museum but the street vendors at the Fort were horrible. This bus was hard to maneuver at the steps and there was a really old couple that could hardly get up and down. Then there were multiple staircases. The cruise ship should make sure that folks know this is not a handicap friendly excursion. The employees in Caribe store were a little pushy as well.
