This trip was a shore excursion from Azamara Cruise Ship.
It was advertised as a 90 minute round trip.
We decided to do the round trip and go back to an area if we liked get off.
It is fortunate we did stay on as the round trip took two and a half hours!!!
If we had gone back anywhere we would have missed the last bus back!
Some interesting sites though

this was a shore excursion booked for when we docked from our cruise ship. It was appealing because you got both the hop on hop off experience as well as a guided 90 min tour of the walled city. At the port, the buses were waiting to take us on our journey and we were directed to our air conditioned mini bus that would take us to the main area to start the tour. This is when it really fell apart. We had to wait at the dock for almost 45 min while they gathered the other passengers instead of starting. Not sure why we had to wait as all of the other buses loaded up and left as we sat there. (Un)lucky us had to be the bus waiting for all the stragglers that did not come off the cruise ship on time. Once we were finally underway, the bus driver took us to the walled city area and we had to wait still on our bus for another 20 min.without any real explanation besides just waiting for our guide as they wanted to take us on the walled city walking tour to start before the heat of the day. Made sense, so we waited. Still on the minibus, we did an 8 block loop and ended up at the same spot. Ooops they said, the driver did a wrong turn. So we waited another 10 min without any explanation, and then we then drove the exact loop again! Now its been almost 2 hours since we left the ship and still no tour started! Angry people starting to get very agitated on board since we only had 7 hours at this port of call! Finally, an explanation that we are ready to go, and yep... did the same loop again, and then went to the walled city...across the street from where we had been parked and waiting for almost an hour. I think they were waiting for our tour guide to finish the first guided walking tour of the walled city for the other group so he could give us our tour, but that was never confirmed or denied. Once the tour actually started it was great. they gave us a little box thing to plug in the complimentary headphones, so you could hear our guide as he walked us around the very crowded but fascinating walled city area stopping at several points of interest and talking about the history of the area and the city. Well worth the wait. Our guide, Jose, took the time to learn our names during the tour and made sure we were all together as a group before going to the next area as it was really crowded and lots of other tours happening. After that was done, we were directed back across the street to the main stop/pick up area and offered a cold bottle of water while we waited for a bus to take the actual loop of the city. Due to time constraints of our time in port and all the lost time waiting, we were unable to get off at any of the stops, but just stayed on the bus, listening to the history and seeing the sights before they drove the bus back to our cruise ship terminal even though that wasn't an official stop. Big shout out to Angy Fonseca who accompanied us as tour guide aide on the bus loop portion who was excellent at making us feel welcomed and answered any additional questions we had. All in all, a tough start , but thanks to Angy and Jose the day is remembered as a success and they both have made us interested in returning to Cartagena to further explore the city again for a longer time. Thanks!

We thought this tour would be a good way to see some of Cartegena as we were only in port for the day, and we wanted some flexibility to explore on our own. The buses came right to the cruise ship terminal which was handy, but be aware when you are done the buses don't come all the way back to the ship; you have to take a separate shuttle back to the ship. The route takes you to the Spanish fort, around the outskirts of the old town, and through the new town. There is a multilingual audio guide at each seat on the bus which offers some descriptions of the sights. Don't rely on the host on the bus to announce the stops; our bus didn't actually stop at where we planned to get off so we had a bit of a walk back to the old town.

Under no circumstances take this tour if you have mobility issues. The busses cannot be accessed by a wheelchair because the ramp is too steep. If you take this HOHO from a cruise ship you will be required to change busses multiple times and will not be taken back to the ship. You will be dropped off at an aviary that requires you to walk through the displays and then back to the ship. This was a nightmare excursion and my mother fell because she couldn't stay in her wheelchair. They required her to sign a form saying she wasn't injured even though she was hurt. Our bus was unable to make it up a small bridge and we had to wait for a different bus to come get us. The person leading my walking tour did a great job though.

Terrible, the confirmation said "easy walk to bus pick up"
There was no pick up and no bus where we were told to meet it.
We had to pay an addition $30.00 fee to get another bus line to take us.
This took over an hour to locate another company.
Everything we were told about the pickup was a waste of time.
I want my money back!
I tried to reach Trip Advisor by phone and never had anyone pick up the line.
I will never use Trip advisor again!

We walked off the ship and I saw a Hop on- Hop Off bus right there in the lot outside the ship and so receipt in hand I walked to the bus and was told by the driver this bus was reserved for the Holland America passengers (okay - my bad!) and to pick up our tour we had to take a shuttle into town that we could pick up outside the port. So we walked to the end of the road - turned right and walked along the water to where there were people in their company shirt in a booth selling the Hop on Hop Off tours who told us that if we had already paid, we needed to go back "there" and wait for the shuttle. Essentially where they pointed was back to the opening of pier, so we did. No bus! So back to the company representatives again and a young man made a couple calls and said the bus was on its way and to wait "down there." At this point we met up with 8 and then 10 other people who had bought the Viator tour like us and we went back to the representatives again who were telling us that this "lady could help us." She was on a boat tied up there with a clipboard - if she wasn't avoiding us she did a good impression of it by making no eye contact. Finally - this man who said he was from Portugal - my hero of the day - took us back to the gangway of the ship AGAIN and told us to wait for the shuttle. I decided I was not going to let this man out of my sight because we now had 12 people who had been given the run around and he had my receipt in his hand - and he explained while walking that they had 3 ships in that day and their capacity was at their limits. So in my humble opinion, the ships got priority and the people who prepaid were thrown under the bus - so to speak. Finally a shuttle did arrive and we sat and waited for at least 30 more minutes...we got water and then went into town. Heavy traffic all the way so we got to Bogeguita Pier and told this is where we would be picked up to shuttle back to the ship. We were dropped off again to wait for the Hop on/ Hop Off Tour bus. When we finally got on the bus, we got water again and ear pieces and listened to the tour but by this time we knew we would either have to stay on the bus or not see the whole tour because we had to shuttle again back to the ship and we had no faith in the shuttle back to the cruise ship pier by this time...So we went as far as the San Francisco entrance to the walled city, walked around and went back to the wait with the crowd to shuttle back to the ship at Bogeguita Pier. We got on the second shuttle back - after about a 30 minute wait. I write a lot of these Trip Advisor assessments and promised my 10 other people from the ship I would report this when I got back on behalf of all of us. While it was less expensive than using the cruise ship - this company needs to get everyone wearing their shirts and standing under their logo to help their customers get to town without wasting a lot of time and giving us the run around!

Our Holland America cruise was to stop in Cartagena for about 6 hours, and offered the Hop-On Hop-Off tour. I asked if it was the same price as booking on shore, I was told it was, at $39.95 each.($23 on tripadvisor)The bus itself was excellent, all the audio guides were checked and worked, we were able to get a good short overview of the city, with a guided tour of the old town.Bottled water was available, and we were delivered back to the ship.

Dear Sander S Thank you for choosing City Sightseeing Cartagena. Your feedback is very important for our company , we can assure you that your comments have been passed to the staff and managers. Now about your main concern about the prices, let me explain that when you book the tour directly on our main station it will cost you less, however you will have to pay your own transportation from the port to the main stop and again paying back to the ship. When booking the tour from the ship we give you exclusive departures direclty from the cruise port and then we take you back to the ship after you have completed the tour. This will give the peace of mind that all will be taken care of. Again thanks for your comments. Your City Sightseeing Cartagena Team.

This was our first time visiting Cartagena so we booked the hop on/hop off thru our cruise line. There was a bus as soon as we got off the ship that took us right to the hop on/hop off. We got off at the walled city and took the guided walking tour which was informative and well paced. Could have done without the stop at the yogurt place but no big deal. Boarded bus and continued tour. They provide you with headphones and you can select what language to listen in. The bottom of the bus is cramped. We got off at stop 14, boarded a bus back to pier where we did a bit of shopping in the nice gift store, grabbed a cold drink, and enjoyed the aviary with peacocks, flamingos and other beautiful birds. When done we boarded a bus that dropped us right back at the ship. It was well organized.

We booked this excursion. Wasted 2 hours of my life waiting for a bus that never showed up. I called all of the numbers on the signs - found a guy to talk to who said shortly it will be there. Never was. I kept calling back - same bs excuse. One bus came refused to let us on. It was for the ship passengers. Found out all of the buses went to the ship. So anyone who bought 3rd party and went to a stop was waiting for a bus that will never show up. After complaining to Viator.com we were refunded. Do not buy tickets for this product. Stay far away - would have been better off renting a cab to do the tour. . I spent $20 to go to the bus stop - that's the other thing it sounded by the way the tour was written walk off the ship and 'nearby' was a stop. It was a 15 min cab ride that cost extra.

We boarded the Hop on Hop off bus tour at the cruise boat pier in Cartagena, Colombia, at 9:30 a.m. from the Celebrity Reflection. The double decker open air bus takes you on a 14 stop tour of the city of Cartagena in roughly 3-4 hours. You can get off at any stop and catch the next bus a half an hour or so later to continue on to another stop. The bus will return you to the ship pier at the end of the tour. We chose to get off at the old walled city of Cartagena de Indies, as it once was called , because it was cooler in the morning to walk, for a one and a half hour walking tour with a guide, then back on another bus to go around Boca Grande area and return to the ship. Once we got off the bus at the "Torre del Reloj" (clock tower) entrance portals we walked into the "Plaza de los Coches" (carriages) and the guide said we are having a pee break, which to our dismay lasted too long as it took time from our tour and we only left the ship a half hour before. We saw a few more interesting places such as the "Plaza San Pedro Claver", Simon Bolivar Square, the Cathedral and then another pee break, to our dismay as he said we have to return to the bus area as our walking tour time was over, We had only saw 7 or 8 things out of 14 we were supposed to see, what a disappointment. We boarded the bus and continued todo the other 13 stops around the walled city and Boca Grande. We stopped at the super fort, "San Felippe de Barajes" for a photo op then proceeded on. The driving tour around the beaches of Boca Grande was beautiful and interesting for it's history. We were all maddened and disappointed about the walking tour that the $49 per head Hop on Hop off bus tour didn't live up to our expectations. The areas in the walled city that we were taken were through all the vendors which we had no interest in, as we wanted to see the highlights of the walled city instead. Would recommend taking a cab to the walled city instead and get a map and do your own walking tour then get a cab back to the ship, as it isn't far.
