- teda4610 contributionsUnmissable Chengdu experience! This was a truly amazing experience. Our guide spoke great English and was super friendly. He took us round the local market to buy ingredients. Then the chef helped teach us how to cook 5 delicious recipes. They adapted the menu to suit our eating preferences. They provided all the photos, videos and recipes at the end, as well as a small gift bag and certificate. The food was really delicious (don't eat too much beforehand!!).Written September 14, 2024
- 148bog0 contributionsGreat cooking class! My boyfriend and I have done cooking classes all over the world, and this one was definitely the most instructive and helpful in terms of us feeling confident in taking these recipes home and cooking them without assistance. Additionally, Lance, the market guide and translator for the chef, was incredibly wonderful to spend the day with. He is such an interesting person who provides a unique perspective on China, and we felt like the conversations we had with him were so enjoyable and enriching. We highly recommend this cooking class and market tour — it is a must if you come to Chengdu.Written September 11, 2024

- 583anoniem0 contributionsFantastic market visits and cooking experience!A Culinary Gem in Chengdu: A Market Visit and Dumpling Cooking Class If you find yourself in Chengdu, a visit to the local market followed by a dumpling cooking class is an experience not to be missed! This combination offers a delightful dive into the heart of Sichuan culture and cuisine. The Market Experience Stepping into the local market, you're immediately enveloped by a riot of colors, sounds, and smells. The vibrant stalls overflowing with fresh produce, spices, and unique local ingredients create an atmosphere that is both bustling and inviting. You can find everything from fragrant Sichuan peppercorns to an array of vegetables that are essential in authentic Chinese cooking. Our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, providing fascinating insights into the local culinary culture and the significance of various ingredients. Sampling fresh fruits as we wandered through the market added to the adventure, making the experience even more immersive. The friendly vendors were eager to share their stories, making it not just a shopping trip, but a cultural exchange. The Dumpling Cooking Class After the market, we transitioned into the dumpling cooking class, which was equally impressive. The class was held in a cozy kitchen setting, equipped with everything we needed to create these delightful delicacies. Our instructor was a talented chef who patiently guided us through the process of making dumplings from scratch. We started with the dough, learning the art of kneading and shaping it just right. Then came the filling – a savory blend of meats, vegetables, and aromatic spices that we prepared with care. The chef shared tips on traditional techniques, including how to properly fold and seal the dumplings for that perfect bite. As we cooked, the camaraderie grew. It was a joy to share the experience with the teacher and the guide who were just as excited about food! Once everything was prepared, we had the chance to savor our creations, dipping them in a flavorful sauce that complemented the dish beautifully. Conclusion This market visit and dumpling cooking class in Chengdu was not just about food; it was an enlightening journey into the heart of Sichuan culture. The hands-on experience, combined with the vibrant market ambiance, made it a highlight of our trip. Whether you're a seasoned cook or a novice in the kitchen, this experience is bound to enrich your culinary knowledge and leave you with delicious memories. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Chengdu—it's a feast for the senses and a wonderful way to connect with the local culture!Written August 30, 2024
- shasa190 contributionsAmazing local experienceAmazing experience inside the Sichuan culture and food. 周航 (Hang) is a really nice guy, we talked a lot about our cultures while teaching me much about Sichuan foods, walking in the local market, showing and tasting different local ingredients I could never find at home. We had a nice tea break before meeting the chef and diving into the cooking, preparing 3 traditional Sichuan dishes. I already loved Sichuan cuisine and they helped me learn a lot more, this will surely be an experience I won't forget. I absolutely suggest this to everyone who likes cooking and is willing to dive into local culture!Written August 25, 2024
- EnricaBucchioni0 contributionsGreat cooking experienceWe booked this cooking experience to better understand Chengdu’s cuisine. We had the opportunity to visit the local food market with our guide Lance Zhou, who with a perfect English explained us all typical Chinese vegetables, fruits, and food in general. We also bought some food to be cooked later. We had a nice tea experience and then started the cooking lessons, where guided by a lady chef and our guide we cooked 3 dishes. One with Chinese cabbage, one with pork belly and the last one with Tofu. Chef and Lance were both very good in guiding us through the cooking activities and all three dishes resulted delicious. Lance Zhou amused us with many stories on Chinese heritage and habits, he was extremely kind and helpful. Definitely an highly recommended experience.Written August 24, 2024
- 904rickl0 contributionsFun, informative, and very well organized event! This class was fantastic. Lance was an excellent guide: very friendly, interesting, and with a great command of English. VERY well organized event, with a tour of a local market, a nice rest time with tea, and time in the kitchen with just the right amount of hands-on prep and cooking. The chef did A LOT of work for us. Thank you, Chef! One of the best tours I've ever been on!Written August 18, 2024

- babycap0 contributionsPersonal, educational, fun! 5 stars! We enjoyed attending a Sichuan cooking class in Chengdu led by 周航, a passionate young man. He took us to a local wet market to explore the myriad ingredients used in Sichuan dishes. The locals were welcoming, and we even got invited into a stall to learn how to wrap 抄手. In the impeccably clean workshop, we cooked three dishes and shared a delightful lunch. Over tea, 周航 opened up about his travels, dreams, and aspirations. It was a personal, educational, and truly memorable experience. Definitely deserving of a five-star rating! 👍Written August 17, 2024
- FellowTraveler2623160 contributionsGreat half day market visit & cooking classGreat half day cooking course ! It ended up being just the 2 of us in the class. We started with a market visit with Lance who spoke very good English & was very friendly. - jvng0 contributionsVery enjoyable half-day cooking courseThis was an exceptionally nice half-day event. Lance, our guide, was warm and welcoming with excellent English. We met at the Metro Station and started with a look around the market nearby. We had the opportunity to practice buying some items in Mandarin, guided by Lance. After this, we went to their office/kitchen where we prepared 3 dishes under the supervision of a very friendly and competent chef, with Lance providing the “language bridge”. We concluded by sitting down together and eating what we had prepared. Overall, can’t recommend this highly enough.Written August 9, 2024
- JennyT3900 contributionsWonderful half day wet market tour and cooking classThanks Lance, he is a funny tour guide with lots of patience. I like the wet market tour very much, full of fun, and learn a lot of Sichuan spices. With Lance’s great help of translation in cooking class, we made 3 yummy dishes. The lady chef was great too, she teach us some cutting skill 👍 Happy tour, nice chit chat, such an amazing experience 👍Written August 9, 2024
- ellit1220 contributionsGreat lesson and experienceMy partner and I booked onto the half day class through the Chengdu Local Tea Hostel and while we probably wouldn't have chosen the local market visit alongside the cooking class if we'd had the choice, we actually loved it. We were the only participants which meant for a really relaxed morning with lots of time to talk, and Jerry was a great guide and host, spoke great English and gave us lots of really interesting context. It was a great experience visiting the market with him, finding out what lots of things were and trying them for ourselves. The cooking lesson was done with the resident chef and we learned three dishes. They were good at accommodating for our dietary needs - one pescetarian and one who doesn't eat red meat. Small note is that it was a shame that there wasn't an alternative dish that could have been prepared for the pescetarian - he ended up learning one fewer dish. Nonetheless, it was a good variety of dishes, skills and a really lovely morning.Written August 8, 2024

Spent a day with Lance and Jerry - and it was awesome. I was only going to do the morning (3 dishes incl. Mapo Tofu - which was great) , but had so much fun I tapped into the afternoon class too (BaoZi - Steamed Pork Buns). So they even threw in some Mahjong lessons too in between.
They are seriously relaxed and fun guys to be with, great English, great at sharing local knowledge and culture (the markets etc.) and Jerry is great to work with in the kitchen - keeps it relaxed, fun, but useful and productive too (but always patient...).
They've set up a great operation - totally recommend it 100% whether you're a novice or a skilled foodie these guys can make a great experience for you.
I had never done a cooking class before despite travelling a lot.... so glad I decided i finally would since I had a free day - it really was awesome!
