Winter and his team, as led by Lily, were instrumental in providing us with an amazing food tour in Chengdu. We visited the key markets, ate all the essential dishes (ie dan dan noodles, Liangfen jelly, rabbit etc.) and ended with a traditional Sichuan hotpot. As a foodie, I knew quite a lot about Chengdu, but this tour gave me much more knowledge and the history on the Sichuan cuisine. Highly recommended!

We were here three years ago and forgot to leave a review. But this was one of the highlights of our visit to Chengdu!

My friend David and I decided to take this class on the recommendation of a friend, and we were not disappointed. Our tour started with a jaunt through the local market. The knowledgeable and lovely Ocean the low-down on all the local ingredients and how they are used in Sichuan cuisine. My favorite part was learning about the “pigs-anus” vegetable, that despite the name, actually tastes good. For the second part of the tour we went and cooked three dishes guided by a real chef. This was my favorite part of the afternoon, as we cut, roasted, and mixed, I really felt like I learned how to make a few of my favorite Sichuan dishes. This experience is highly recommended for anyone who is heading to Chengdu, and wants to learn how the amazing cuisine here gets made. - David and David.

We did the half day Chendu Back Alley Foodie tour. Lance was our guide and he was very knowledgeable about different foods, bringing us to spice market, tea house and wrapping it up with the best hotpot ever. I would highly recommend any activity he is in charge of, as he knows his stuff. He a really funny guy and was very patient with us, especially because one of us was moving along slowly. Sorry for the late review, buddy!

Really good time. My guide, Ocean, was super nice and knowledgeable. Made my short trip in Chengdu much better than if I'd been on my own. Highly recommending her services.

This was one of my favorite experiences during my month long tour in China. It was so fun to explore the food market, learn how to make dumplings with fresh ingredients, and finally prepare a multi-course sichuan meal. I learned so much about all of the different spices and enjoyed cooking with the other students. Plus the meal was SO TASTY I still crave it and would go back to Chengdu just for the food in this class!!!!

I had a great experience cooking at Chilli Cool. Lance is fantastic at hosting cooking classes at the Chilli Cool Kitchen. He multitasked as a spice market tour guide, translator and photographer. Not only did I learn how to cook delicious Sichuan style food with a wok, but I got plenty of great photos of the experience. He also had spice market challenges for us that helped us interact with local people - very memorable! I highly recommend this experience. (One tip: many buildings in Sichuan don't have central heating, so make sure you dress warmly enough.)

My partner and I booked this tour due to the great reviews on trip advisor. We were not disappointed. Lance picked us up at our hotel and we meet the other people on our tour. We drove to the local market where Lance taught us about all of the different produce in Chengdu. We saw interesting animals and vegetables that I had never heard of. We had the opportunity to try samples of different traditional snacks and even made wontons. We went back to the tea house, enjoyed tea and some local snacks and met the chef we were cooking with. We cooked 3 amazing tasting dishes. It was a great afternoon learning about traditional Sichuan cuisine and learning more about the culture through Lance. We will definitely be cooking these meals back home if we can find all of the ingredients!! I would do this experience over again! Thank you Lance for a wonderful tour!

The excursion to the local spice market in a small group was a great experience and cooking together was great fun. Our guide was very charming and had lots of interesting details for us. The "treasure hunt" on the spice maket was a great idea! :)

Had a really nice afternoon chatting and cooking with Lance. Really enjoyed the tour - he was very informative, and told me loads about Chinese culture! Would 100% recommend!

I had a lot of fun at my half day cooking class with Lance. His English is amazing and he was very welcoming. It was great that we got to go to the local market before the class to buy some fresh ingredients and learn about the different produce that Chengdu has to offer. The cooking school has amazing facilities and is very close to the market. The professional chef was articulate and animated and the whole experience was very fun! Thank you so much!
