If you love food this is your tour.
What a great experience! Chengdu is one of the great food cities in the world. I'm a terrible cook but I so desperately wanted to know more so maybe I could take Sichuan with me and make delicious food at home. Lance took us to the market and introduced us to the local vendors and spices. We bought the food we were going to make. Then back to the Chilli Cool kitchen to learn to prepare it. Chef taught me to actually cook something and it was so delicious. Lance so thoroughly and thoughtfully explained in English. I went solo but made friends. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone. I had such a great time.

        Excellent Szechuan Cooking Experience
Chilli Cool Workshop is a must do experience in Chengdu! A cooking class with a young team of entrepreneurs, and great cooks. We had an authentic experience with Lance at the local market, introducing us to the vendors, discussing produce and learning Chinese language to make and order wontons. Excellent! The food was sublime utilising the quintessential flavours of Szechuan. We wish Chilli Cool Chengdu every success - if you’re going to Chengdu say hi to Lance.

        Chengdu Cooking Class
This was an excellent experience and great value, highly recommended. The two hosts Lance and Jerry (names presumably substantially anglicised) spoke excellent English and were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The market tour was fascinating and fun, buying the ingredients for use. After tea and oranges, we had a ball making tasty and spicy Chinese pork buns. Lance and Jerry were most encouraging of my rather ham-fisted efforts at folding them neatly and I'm confident I'll master this once I get home. I managed to eat 7 and took home another 6 which were gone by nightfall! Don't hesitate to sign up and enjoy.

        Great cooking and cultural tour!
Ended up with a private tour! Lance was a super informative and friendly guide through the wet market tour, an unexpected side baijiu tasting, and throughout the cooking class. Despite my terrible cooking skills we managed to make 5 DELICIOUS dishes that I feel like I could recreate at home (given some more practice)! Lance was super easy to talk to and I learned so much about Sichuan and Chinese food and modern culture. Highly recommend this tour and this tour group!

        Sichuan cooking classes
This cooking class was amazing! We learned how to prepare traditional dishes from Sichuan. We also visited the local market to buy necessary ingredients and our guide helped us with some Chinese sentences. Our tour guide Lance and chef Jerry were amazing people. We had really nice conversation while eating all the food we cooked.

        Fantastic experience for foodies
Go hungry as you’ll want to eat all the delicious food you will prepare. Our guide Jerry was enthusiastic and informative, with interesting anecdotes about the neighbourhood as we walked to the market. He invited us to try many different things along the way. We were especially delighted to be welcomed into the chefs home to prepare our meal, as the cooking school was being renovated. We found chef patient and professional as he guided us through the 5 traditional Sichuan dishes. They even developed vegetarian options for me which I think surprised even chef as to how tasty they were. Jerry was engaging and had wonderful English, and chef joined in the conversation during our shared dinner. A special memory to take away from our days in Chengdu.

        Cooking in Chengdu!!
Not only has the city of Chengdu been the highlight of our trip, but meeting Jerry our guide for the cooking class was the ultimate best! From the moment he said hello in the lobby, to the walking tour of the markets and all his knowledge, we were having so much fun. We asked so many questions and he kept up with us. He took pictures for us, and we stopped and talked to many local people (with Jerry’s help!). Then we went to the cooking class and met Chef Liang. He helped us create three dishes that turned out so good! He understands English well and Jerry helps translate everything. At the end of the class, we ate our freshly-cooked meal. It was so nice of the chef to invite us into his home for this experience. It was so interesting! I can’t say enough good things about how much fun we had. And they even gave us a bunch of recipes: not only what we cooked, but more to try on our own with the techniques and ingredients we learned.

Great tour with Jerry as our guide
We had a wonderful time with Jerry as our guide- you need to ask for him if you go on this tour. He was full of energy and a lot of fun. Our chef was Leon and he was knowledgeable and hosted us in his home.

        I recommend this class!
We enjoyed the class very much and learned a lot of new information, even in details. We first went to a market and saw and tasted fruits and veggies we hadn‘t used before. Arriving at the kitchen, the chef first showed the preparation of the dishes step-by-step. Afterwards, we reproduced the cooking by ourselves, supported by both cooking teachers. We then tasted the dishes we had made and compared them to each other to better understand which details in preparation resulted in which tastes. I now feel much more informed about Sichuan kitchen and capable of reproducing the dishes we learned also at home. There was lots of possibility for hands-on-experience and we could also taste exotic food, as for example Chinese fermented duck eggs. Winter invested a lot of time to answer all our questions and cared for an easy-going and fun experience for us. He even took care of taking photos so we could focus on cooking. Thank you for the great time we had!

        Amazing experience!
Winter picked up us at the hotel and took us to a local market which was very exotic experience. After we bought some of spices or local fruit, we moved to the farm for the cooking class. Although it was 1h drive, driving was comfortable. Once we arrived at the farm, we had a tea time with some snacks and started the cooking class. We made mapo tofu, twice cooked pork, and chinese lettuce. The chef was very kind to teach every detail and took care of us, while winter took good pictures and videos of us. We had dinner there after cooking (which was amazing) and winter sent us back to the hotel. Overall the experience was very good and definitely recommended.

An amazing food tour in Chengdu
Winter and his team, as led by Lily, were instrumental in providing us with an amazing food tour in Chengdu. We visited the key markets, ate all the essential dishes (ie dan dan noodles, Liangfen jelly, rabbit etc.) and ended with a traditional Sichuan hotpot. As a foodie, I knew quite a lot about Chengdu, but this tour gave me much more knowledge and the history on the Sichuan cuisine. Highly recommended!

        Cheng-Do This Cooking Class!
My friend David and I decided to take this class on the recommendation of a friend, and we were not disappointed. Our tour started with a jaunt through the local market. The knowledgeable and lovely Ocean the low-down on all the local ingredients and how they are used in Sichuan cuisine. My favorite part was learning about the “pigs-anus” vegetable, that despite the name, actually tastes good. For the second part of the tour we went and cooked three dishes guided by a real chef. This was my favorite part of the afternoon, as we cut, roasted, and mixed, I really felt like I learned how to make a few of my favorite Sichuan dishes. This experience is highly recommended for anyone who is heading to Chengdu, and wants to learn how the amazing cuisine here gets made. - David and David.

        Hot pot extravaganza
We did the half day Chendu Back Alley Foodie tour. Lance was our guide and he was very knowledgeable about different foods, bringing us to spice market, tea house and wrapping it up with the best hotpot ever. I would highly recommend any activity he is in charge of, as he knows his stuff. He a really funny guy and was very patient with us, especially because one of us was moving along slowly. Sorry for the late review, buddy!

Great half day tour. Nobody else on the tour so it was essentially a private tour. First part was walking tour of farmers market with spices, fresh vegetables and meats on display. The Mahjong lesson was great fun and informative. Winter the guide spoke excellent English and knowledgable.

Winter, a local guide and a very good Mahjong player, gave us a nice introduction to this difficult game. Step-by-step and in a fun way we learned the Chinese symbols (1-10) and the rules of the game. We played a couple of games in a nice warm room (it’s cold in Chengdu in the Winter!) and on a cool professional Mahjong table. We actually know the basics of the game and will for sure play it when we’re home. Winter knows Chengdu very well and helped us with lots of stuff. Like a good place to have diner, buying a nice Mahjong set for home and he also was a translator during cooking class! This class is a fun must do if you got time in Chengdu!

What an excellent idea to introduce this typical Chinese game to Chengdu visitors.
Before arriving in Chengdu, communication with Ocean from ChilliCoolChina was very clear, fast and smooth. Our plane was delayed, but she managed to postpone our tour for a few hours!! Thanks again Ocean!!

We were picked up at our hotel by the lovely Emma, visited a local market & tasted some yummie Chengdu snacks, walked to ChilliCoolChina's teahouse for tea, and started the mahjong course. Emma patiently explained the basic rules and we started playing. Then another staff member joined in and we could play a few rounds with 4 persons. Truly a wonderful experience! Highly recommended

It seemed like every other activity in Chengdu involved pandas or food, so we tried this out. My mother-in-law is an avid mahjong player, so this was something to share with her grandchildren (12 and 13). The table was a mechanical sort variety and despite being in a building with many smokers was thankfully smoke-free.

Our instructor, Ocean, was the nicest, most patient young woman who speaks passable English. We spent a half hour walking through a simulated game and then several hours playing 2 variants of mahjong separated by a decent lunch.

My daughter won enough to keep happy but my son would rather read his Kindle.

My guide, Ocean, was very knowledgeable and was a great instructor. We visited a local market and she pointed out different spices and things of interest. Afterwards, we went to a local tea house and she taught the game of mahjong. I'd definitely recommend the tour to anyone. Nice relaxing time.
