What to expect
Meet your guide and group of eight or fewer in central Chengdu, and delve into the Wide and Narrow Allleys to discover the city’s culinary scene. Come hungry: four to five food stops, a hotpot, plus unlimited beer and sodas are included. The heart of old Chengdu, the Wide and Narrow alleyways and courtyards are lined with Ming- and Qing-era buildings and teahouses, many converted into shops, restaurants, and food outlets. Absorb the historical atmosphere and architecture, and visit a beautiful courtyard to sample local tea and traditional snacks. Admire the ornate teahouse as you learn about tea-drinking etiquette before stopping to sample local street snacks. Delve into a bustling wet market and peruse the wares as you learn about the spices and ingredients of Sichuan cuisine and its staple dish of hotpot. Then, visit a restaurant to savor an authentic hotspot served in true Chengdu style: dipping assorted meats, vegetables, and other delicacies into bowls of two types of hot broth. Don’t worry about what to order and how — your guide will provide tips. After your hotpot, retire to a boutique bar for a locally brewed fruit wine. Your tour then concludes here when your guide departs.

Great Hotpot Tour! Highly Recommend!
My boyfriend and I had a great evening on the hotpot and market tour with Chino. Chino was a very knowlegeable guide and showed us some local cuisine which we never would have found on our own especially given the language barrier. You can tell that he has a lot of passion for food. We had a Chengdu waffle, several types of pancakes, the hot pot and 2 desserts. We definitely left with full stomachs! The hot pot was delicious and exceeded my expectations. We did this tour and the Shanghai evening tour and while they were both good I definitely preferred the Chengdu Hotpot one. Highly recommend this tour!

With our guide Bo we had a great tour. Bo takes all the time to explain you about local Chinese food and has a great knowledge about it. He knows the local places to go for food and gives you an introduction to local habits foodwise. (The tea house, the market/little food places and the hotpot restaurant) Bo is also a very nice person to be with so the whole trip was absolutely fabulous!!!!!

The guide was amazing and so was the food!

My husband and I have been to China several times, but find it hard to figure our where to eat and get authentic food as we don't speak fluent Mandarin. We decided to take the hot pot tour to get authentic Hot Pot. It being January, the low season, it was just us and Chino. We first met for tea outside. It was cold out, but the barley tea was delicious and accompanied by various Chinese snacks along with the history of the snacks. Chino spoke great English and was worldly, having lived around the world in his former occupation, so had a good perspective of the world. The tour of the market was interesting, especially the sausage forest just before new years. Then, of course there was the Hot Pot. We came to truly appreciate the significance of Hot Pot, the flavors, and how to eat it at a small open air (COLD, wear all our layers) restaurant we never would have even noticed had we been on our own. Chino knew just what to order, including Pig Aorta (an acquired taste). Conversation at dinner was great.
We chose not to go to the bar after because we were jetlagged, so Chino paid for our uber home with the beer money. Thoughtful!
When we got home to America a couple weeks later, we realized we left our car keys in the hotel safe in Chengdu and the hotel wouldn't send them (weird regulatory issues with what can be mailed... don't ask). Chino had been so friendly, I felt comfortable asking him for a favor. He fetched them from the hotel for us, jumped through regulatory hoops to fed ex them (all during Chinese New Year), and I'm going to pick them up today. He rocks! He went above and beyond. Thanks again.
