One of the best tours
This half a day excursion of Magdalena and Marta islands was one of the best tours that my family of 4 had while in Punta Arenas. One needs to get early in the morning to the office of Solo Expediciones, which is conveniently located close to the main square of the town. Departure was on time in a bus loaded with passengers. The bus which took the passengers to and fro was very comfortable. The guide on the boat was very knowledgeable, interactive and friendly. Luckily the sea was calm during our tour and do the boat journey was comfortable. When on Magdalena island, we got about an hour to walk around, to see the penguins up close in their natural habitat. Saw several penguins including a few baby penguins. Viewing the sea lions in their natural habitat on Marta island from our boat at a distance was also enjoyable. We returned back at the office of Solo Expediciones at the expected time. Overall it was a memorable experience. I would certainly very highly recommended this tour to any traveler in Punta Arenas and especially those who are fond of watching wild life.

You booked with another agency, because we do not charge before the tour is confirmed. If you can tell me which company to book your ticket with, I can help you. Sorry for your bad experience.

Penguins, sea lions, and a fun boat ride!
Mar 2020
This early morning boat ride was so much fun. First of all, we were setting sail right about sunrise time so it was such a beautiful ride to isla magdelena. We were able to walk about the island and there were SO MANY penguins. The crew really made the trip fun. From the boat hands to the guides, they were all very nice and answered a lot of questions. They all are very knowledgeable on not just the wild life but the local area and more! They definitely look out for the safety of the passengers and the wildlife. The second part of the trip we were able to see the sea lions on isla marta. Overall, if you like penguins - you cannot miss this!

Penguins and Sea Lions - Oh My
Feb 2020
We planned to take the 6:30AM trip but the weather the prior day was bad so the early morning trip was already filled. This worked out well for us as we got to sleep in and hit a perfectly calm sea in the late morning. I have been told the afternoon trips tend to be a little rougher, but it is weather dependent.

The boat is not huge and takes about 30 people. You can book tickets on-line in advance, but you will pay a much higher price. In advance was $160 and we paid $100 reserving in person the day before.

We had a calm sea and still bounced around a bit. If it was a choppy sea getting sick could be an issue if you are prone to that. We left the office between 10 and 10:30 and were back by 3.

The trip was well worth it as you got to walk around an island with lots of penguins in their natural habitat and got to see sea lions on a different island from off shore.

Great trip!
Feb 2020
We had a great trip to Magdalena. The crew was very knowledgeable and safety conscious. We had a pod of dolphins follow us and they stopped the boat so that we could enjoy watching them play. Highly recommend.

Penguins and more
Feb 2020
Great experience to see both islands including about one hour walking on Magdelena Island among the penguins. Suggest getting to office ,if possible, early -- check in and than spend some time in the town before going back to board bus to the dock (about 30 minute bus trip) Sabastion was a great tour guide.

Great visit Isla Magdalena with extras!
Feb 2020 • Solo
I went to visit Isla Magdalena and chose Solo Expediciones for coincidence. But was truly glad afterwards, because they seem to be the only company who does not only go to Isla Magdalena but also includes Isla Marta where you can see sea lions. And spectacular dolphin watching on the way to island. Very good guide also, and free drinks and snacks on the boat! Very good trip, prices same as nearly all other companies!

Up close and personal Wonderful new ship – attentive crew
Jan 2020
This island, it is a must see.
We took a transfer boat to a brand new catamaran that took us to both Marta and Magdalena Islands. It was a beautiful day so the ride was even more smooth than would be expected from a catamaran. First, we idled off the shores of Marta Island, getting expansive views of the Sea lions, Cormorants, Skuas, Austral seagull, Antarctic pigeon and Sea elephants from the large open upper deck, perfect for photography.
Then we arrived at Magdalena Island where the catamaran went right up to shore and we walked off a ramp where we were met by a park ranger. She explained what we would see on our hour walk around the island and walked with us to answer questions we might have. While we were asked not to disturb the penguins and birds, we were able to get so close on the walking path that we could almost interact with the Magellan Penguins and seagulls and their chicks.
The crew was very knowledgeable as well as hospitable. They told us about what we would see on the way out and served us hot cocoa, coffee and cookies on our return trip.

Fantastic way to see penguins
Jan 2020
I've seen penguins in a few different places in Australia as well as in South Africa but there's absolutely no comparison between seeing penguins there and what you get to experience on Magdalena Island. This trip was truly fantastic! The visit to the Sea Lions on Marta Island really needs binoculars to see anything interesting (the guide did have a pair that he was allowing people to borrow but if you have your own take them) but on Magdalena Island you are allowed to be within 2m of the penguins and they really are that close. It was absolutely fascinating watching them go in and out of their burrows, walking around (including across the path - penguins have right of way) and just doing penguin stuff. The island is managed really well with groups arriving at different times and all following the same circuit. I can't say enough good things about this trip and the organisation by Solo Expeditions went exactly as advertised so I'm happy that we booked with them (I suspect that there is no difference in what you get with different tour operators - the rangers managing the island ensure everyone has the same time etc).

Amazing guides!
Again went here while studying abroad and another great experience! The boat ride itself is an experience (you sometimes can see dolphins and the water is very choppy). The sea lions are a sight to behold - there are SO many of them and they interact with each other and are entertaining. The real highlight of the trip is Magdalena island with the penguins. Go in December and there are baby penguins and seagulls all over the place! The views on and around the island are also beautiful. After the walk around the island (where there is an amazing photo op at the top) we got back onto the boat and were treated to cookies and hot drinks as well as some pisco! It was the perfect end to the tour. Our guide (Naria? Nadia? something like that) was really nice and professional. I highly recommend this to anyone!
