- Tuffy_Buff0 contributionsEnjoyable Cooking Class with Chef Cheab NarongDid a cooking class for 2 with Chef Cheab Narong. Chef Narong was very attentive and patient with us, often stepping in to help/ guide us who are cook noobs. We got to prepare curry paste from scratch using mortar and pestle! At the end, we got to enjoy our self-prepared 3-course meal, which was super delicious (Chef Narong ensures this!)! Most of it all, we "graduated" with a cooking certificate that we could boast to our families back home!Written December 3, 2022
- SJWJR0 contributionsNot the bestFor this cooking class we were picked up from our hotel as a one way pick up included in the price. On arrival we were given menus and picked the three dishes we wanted to make, 1 starter, 1 main and 1 dessert. We then were taken to the market where Sauroun who pointed out various fruits and produce. We actually felt this was a total waste of time as you are not actually shopping for anything for the class. We then went upstairs to the kitchen and started to prep the ingredients. Concerned that the chef felt it was ok to chop meat and fish on the same chopping board. I actually flipped the board over. Unfortunately it was far too hot for my husband and he gave up. I cooked the rest of the items with the chef. Another issue I have with is the chef tested the food and uses the same spoon again. After the dishes had been finished we moved downstairs to eat them. We left loads as you don’t really feel like eating after being so hot. We also asked for water in the class and another bottle when we were eating the food. Beware it has to be the most expensive water I have seen in Cambodia!!!!$2.50 a bottle which actually sells for $.80 in the supermarket. This should be included in the cost as you cannot safely cook in a kitchen that is that hot without water. For that reason and the hygiene issues I could not recommend this course to anyone.Written February 18, 2020
- nerpelb0 contributionsBest cooking classIt was a very good experience in Siem Reap, highly recommended. Saroun, the teacher is very nice and lot of fun. Her instructions about what to do and when to do were very clear and we could easily follow. She also shared interesting things about ingredients we used.Written February 11, 2020
- boheme60 contributionsYes, it's cheap but you get what you pay forI've done a number of cooking classes around the world (including several in southeast Asia) and this was the lowest price I've paid, but there are things that can be improved without costing them anything, mostly the teaching style. (I should note that between when I signed up for the class and when I attended it, there was a $4 price hike. They honored the original price which I appreciated and found very honest.) Had I paid the new price I would have been REALLY disappointed, there are other options just a dollar or two more than the current cost. I'll start with the good. The food I ate at the end was delicious. No complaints there, though the Amok definitely wasn't traditional -- we never steamed it. The staff were friendly, smiling, and speaking to us. The not so good...the tuktuk to pick me up was almost 30 minutes late. When I got in, I discovered I could've walked in 5 minutes instead of standing around waiting. I guess that's on me for not looking more into exactly where the address was, but then again, I didn't know they'd be so late...When we arrived it was hot, and there was no welcome drink, which seems ubiquitous anywhere you go in southeast asia from hostels to classes/tours. Honestly I don't need anything fancy, but a glass of cold water would've been nice and not a huge expense. Our teacher introduced the market tour by saying that Chinese New Year was coming up and the market was probably too crowded..It seemed like she was trying to get out of it. We said we were good with crowds, so off we set. The market was significantly less crowded then it had been when I went on my own a couple days earlier. We walked through, and she told us to let us know if we had any questions. She offered maybe one explanation, and had one of the other participants hold her basket for her...not that it really got used. Even when answering questions, she was super soft spoken and hard to hear/understand. We came back to start the cooking process, and the rooftop kitchen is hot. I get that, it's Cambodia, fine. Again, a pitcher of drinking water here would've made a huge difference in the experience. There was one chair in the room, so no sitting down if someone else was in it. Everyone was able to pick their own (different) menu, which is nice, but can be handled a lot better than it was. The teacher seemed unable to multi-task, so I'd say I spent 85% of my time there with nothing to do, waiting for someone else to receive their instruction. She'd come over to me, tell me to chop things, chop half of them to "show me" as I was insisting that I could do it! and then would give me ten minutes to chop half a carrot...ie why I had so much downtime. There were also a number of components they made for us. A dressing went on my banana blossom salad, but I didn't know what was in it, and ingredients aren't listed on the website where they told us to go for recipes. The rice ball dessert I made was served to me with a delicious dipping sauce I didn't make, which frankly, provided all the flavor in the dish. There's no recipe on the website for that either. Additionally, I was given a full bowl of mix to make the rice ball dessert. I used it all (since I had to kill time somehow) but then was told it would be too much, so she only cooked half of the dumplings I made for me. (Again, I didn't cook, but also --- why couldn't I have all the food I prepped?" The spare just went into the trash So yes, the food was good, but I didn't leave feeling like I'd actually made it or could make it. I never saw/touched half the ingredients. The recipes are incomplete on the website where we were told to find them (and the vegetarian versions which I made aren't on the website at all, not even as notes on the meat versions) With the new, higher, price, for a couple dollars more you've got a lot of choices in Siem Reap and I'd say if you really want to take away skills from this experience, go elsewhere.Written January 30, 2020

- Newsy540 contributionsFun family activityTeacher Channy was our teacher. We came as a families with 3 adults and 3 children ( age 9,10,11). The class only has 6 of us, so it can be considered a private class for us. We get to choose from a menu what we want to cook for ourselves. Luckily, the kids chose the same thing and they get to prepare as a group. The experience was fun and enjoyable. And the kids were all very proud of what they cooked. Teacher Channy was fun and professional. Great experience!!Written December 10, 2019
- chicovc0 contributionsA lovely couple of hours with great foodWe were lucky enough to choose channy's cooking class on our last day in siem reap. We could proudly say that this was the best dishes we enjoyed in Cambodia. Definitely recommended!Written December 9, 2019

- Elyssebeth0 contributionsFun and rewardingThe chef was delightful. We had a choice of dishes to cook - entree, main and dessert. As there were 2 of us were, therefore, had 6 dishes in total. The cooking area was up a steep flight of stairs which allowed a view over the local streets. The time passed quickly with lots of tips on food preparation, careful attention to each dish and a scrupulously clean environment. We both enjoyed the time preparing and cooking the dishes, and the final meal was marvelous. top marks for a wonderful introduction to Khmer cooking.Written September 27, 2019
- ChrisRuss3ll0 contributionsFantasticHad a brilliant, fun, educational and entertaining cooking course here with my wife. Channy was fantastic. We were allowed to choose from a menu of dishes to cook - and it was fine for Donna and I to choose different dishes. Channy then guided us through the market before taking us into her professional kitchen. Under her expert guidance, we then prepared a three course meal (6 different dishes in total)... which we then ate. The food alone was worth the cost of the course! We were even presented with glossy certificates to say we were great students! 😆 Thank you, Channy, for a memorable evening.Written August 30, 2019
- deanb3240 contributionsFantastic, fun, family cooking class with ChannyWe came across this class on a shopping trip to Alley West and booked it on spec, without seeing any reviews. It was brilliant. They sent someone to collect us from our hotel, took four of us on a tour of the local market and coped well when our daughter almost fainted from the heat, smell and low blood sugar. Channy was fun, encouraging and knowledgeable. We all cooked a starter, main and dessert and surprised ourselves with how amazing it all tasted. It was great to see how all the sauces are made and it has given us the ability to go to our local Asian supermarket and buy the things we need to do the recipes at home. We tried mango sticky rice last night! The staff were so sweet to our daughter, taking care of her and being very attentive with fruits and drinks. We would thoroughly recommend the class to anyone; a great thing to do with teens who can be tricky to entertain too. One of the best experiences of our trip to Cambodia. Thanks to Channy and team.Written August 8, 2019
- kaw270 contributionsGreat Activity and Memorable ExperienceI booked this activity as TA recommended, a driver picked us up from our hotel, its location is on one of the alleys near Pub Street. Once we got acquainted with our group, we went on a walking tour to the market. Teacher, showed us some local fruits and veggies. Then cooking started, in a spacious and open venue. Teacher is patient we students are allowed to cook 1 appetizer, 1 main course and 1 dessert each. Price per person on a group is $15 $25 per person if private Overall had a nice experience and will highly recommend to my friends.Written August 3, 2019

We were taught how to chop, cook and present a delicious 3 course Khmer meal. The staff were very fun and friendly. - jacktasker210 contributionsBrilliant Cooking Course!Summary: Absolutely fantastic! Experience: Cooking course My girlfriend and I were fortunate to stumble upon the cooking course during our 3 day trip to Siem Reap. All the staff were extremely friendly, and they catered very carefully for my girlfriend's nut allergy. We enjoyed the opportunity to choose our own courses to prepare, and were not limited despite being in a smaller group. Teacher Channy was exceptionally kind, knowledgeable and funny! She gave us a tour of the market, explaining fruit/Veg beyond just our ingredient list. Channy then explained every step of the cooking process in great detail, whilst making jokes a long the way to enhance our enjoyment further! As a result we were able to learn step by step at our own pace, how to construct a traditional Cambodian 3 course meal. We truly cannot recommend enough this cooking course, and I have no doubt the food from the restaurant would be to similar high standards. Thank you so much to Channy and the team! We spent a fun morning preparing and cooking some classic KHMER dishes followed by eating our creations in the downstairs restaurant. Teacher was helpful and recipes are supplied. One of the great things was we got to choose our menu. Meals were huge. Recommended break from temples.

Friendly instructor who guided us and answered all our questions. Great experience chopping, cooking, serving (and finally eating, of course). The place is hidden inside an alley, which adds to the ambience of the restaurant that this is a part of.

We booked this super last minute, the morning of the day we wanted to do it but the team were so lovely and accommodating. We had Sam as our teacher and she was brilliant, couldn’t fault her. It was only me and my friend in the class. We got to choose a starter, main and dessert each to cook, so we chose different things to try the different dishes. Sam was so hopeful and friendly towards us and going around the market was interesting. It was an absolute bargain at $19 each, much cheaper than some others we saw and you get to choose what you make which is great.
Would highly recommend this experience, we can’t wait to get home and make a curry for our friends and family.
Thanks guys! :)

Delicious dinner and fun experience for just the two of us. We chose our menu - each of us chose an appetizer, a main, and a dessert, then walked to the market (2 minutes) and learned about all the ingredients we would use. Our teacher Sarare (spelling definitely wrong!) was excellent. She demonstrated the techniques and supported us through the whole process. She also expertly coordinated everything so it was all ready at the same time! The kitchen was well equipped with 3 or 4 gas burners and stainless counters. We then ate our delicious creations in the pleasant restaurant downstairs. Highly recommend this activity in Siem Reap!

My husband and I really enjoyed our cooking class starting from the trip to the Old Market just across the street from the cooking class place. The cooking class itself was challenging enough to be interesting but not too difficult. Narong, our teacher, was very friendly and helpful as well as being professional and courteous. The Khmer dishes we made tasted even better than what we’d ordered at restaurants previously! We also appreciated the fact that a bottle of wine was included which meant we could cook with wine and then have the rest of the wine with our dinner.

Turned out I was the only person that day so it ended up being a private class. Chef Narong was very friendly and helpful. All the ingredients are laid out for you and your task is to chop and prep ingredients then cook them with her guidance. I think to finish in a timely fashion, some of the prep is done for you as in preparing some of the sauces, but all in all it was very enjoyable cooking the appetizer, main, and dessert dishes. The class ends in the dining area of the restaurant where you eat what you cooked ( very tasty). If you want any drinks with your meal these will be extra.
The class starts with a brief tour of the market to look some of the ingredients that might be used in the class. If you’ve been to the market before this step is not essential, but it is interesting to hear about the daily activities there.
All in all it was a fun activity in a friendly place. I would recommend this to everyone.

I cook alot at home, and wanted to find a way to bring back some of the awesome dishes we had tried on our trip to Cambodia. The team at Khmer Gourmet Cooking Class were incredible! We toured a market to see what ingredients we would be cooking with, my husband and I each got to pick our own starter, Main and desert dishes, they even provide aprons and hats to complete the feeling of preparing a great meal. We were guided through every step by an extremely kind and patient professional that gave us all kinds of tips, and answered all of our questions. The food was INCREDIBLE and all the ingredients were very fresh! It was more then the two of us could eat, but were able to take the rest home in to go containers. Anyone wanting to learn how to bring home some of Cambodia's great dishes should sign up for a class! The price couldn't be beat for the experience.

We had a cooking class here and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Our teacher was teacher was Narong. The walk through the market was informative. She was attentive, polite, knowledgeable and overall delightful. We loved pounding our own curry paste.
