A trip to see floating village, canoe ride around the mangrove, crocodile farm, and sunset at ton lei sap lake. At the floating village, the houses are unique in a way that it was built using steel woods about 15 - 17 meters. The locals are very friendly, full of smiles, and the children loves to hi five and greet the tourists.
A canoe ride is $5,5 us dollar for one person. A fun ride experience along the mangrove forest to the crocodile farm with a small restorant surrounding the lake which sells crocodile and snake dishes.
The tour guide names Tom is fluent in English and if you have any questions about siem reap, do ask him as many question as possible.

It's a good day trip if you want to see the stilt houses and a lovely sunset on the lake, but don't want to drive the dirt road on your own (at least from where we started our boat trip).
My pick up worked out ok, but we were running behind apparently picking all the guests up. So everything was a bit of a rush from then on. :S
We had about a 15min walk around in the village and unfortunately, it was not always clear what our guide wanted to explain as it was sometimes difficult to understand him.
The extra 6$ for the boat trip through the mangroves was in my opinion not worth it if you've done this before at other places. It felt more like floating through bushes than through mangroves with their huge roots. But it took a while so it's not just 5min.
After the extra boat trip we went on a floating restaurant, but only to get into the bigger boat again to watch the sunset. It was all very confusing as we didn't know if we gonna eat now or not, and where we should use the toilet. There was no time for dinner or drinks (not as mentioned in the itinerary), but luckily one was able to buy some snacks (chips) if you were hungry.
The sunset was beautiful and luckily by then we weren't in a rush anymore. So we were able to fully enjoy the sunset. It was also interesting driving back through the village as with the lights on, you were able to see a bit better how people lived in the village and what work they did in the evening.
On the boat and also on the way back in the bus, the guide asked us to fill in a review, also the same was happening to the second group that was with us on our boat. I didn't like that as the guides were standing next to the guests who filled in the reviews. So the rates/reviews are propably a lot better than what they should be if the guides would not have been standing there till the review was filled in.
Drop off went alright. Good bus driving skills of the bus drivers as we were dropped off individually and also in small alleys.

The guide (CHOUT) was super nice and funny! We went around the floating village it was amazing and we could take small boats for $5.5 in the mangrove, then we saw crocodiles in a floating restaurant to end up on the lake to see the sunset. The tour cost $20 in total.

It felt like I was looking into people's houses and it just felt wrong for me. I do not like this tour. The guide was knowledgeable and helpful but then over charged us for the extra mangroves boat tour it went from $5 to $6. Then we walked a bit back from the boat through the village to the van and disrupted the school going on people took photos of folks in there houses, this all felt very wrong for me. I would never do this again. Also, this tour said small and it was not, we had a very full boat of people. One man almost pushed me down to get in between me and my husband to get on the boat first and the guide just let him and helped him on. I hated every minute of this tour honestly.

Mr. Pon was the Guide. Both the way we lived on the lake and the sunset on the lake horizon were beautiful, and that was true of the lives of the merchandisers who relentlessly sold $2-3 products. But thanks to Pon, I had a great time knowing what kind of photos to take and what to buy.
* You will pay an additional $5.5 to take an additional tour of the mangroves along the way. You don't have to participate, but it will be like an assumption to participate airily. But even including it, I think it's worth the price.

This tour has more promise than we actually experienced. We went during the dry season, so the stilt houses were on dry land, but it was very interesting nonetheless. It was amazing to learn of the daily lives of the people in the village, and to see their incredible resourcefulness. However, there were a few parts of the tour that left us "dry". First of all, the guide informed us that he had arranged for our entire tour group to visit the house of one of his friends, which seemed a bit unlikely that someone would agree to having a whole busload of people with their shoes on tromping through their house.
The house itself was empty, except for a mattress on the floor, so we wondered if it was an actual house, or a bait station. As we walked out, there was a young village boy selling beer out of a cooler, that everyone felt obligated to buy. And at the base of the stairs, was a group of small children with a mother, who happened to be standing there. The tour guide then informed us not to give money to the children, but to give it to their mother, so she could use it for the whole community.
The sunset was outstanding, but then the tour guide went from table to table at the restaurant requesting five star reviews, saying that he would lose his job if we didn't do that immediately. He even went as far as picking up our phones, and attempting to pair them with his. The other people at our table were not impressed, and would not submit the review. My husband didn't let him pair our phones.
And finally - temper your expectations of the floating restaurant. The food was adequate, and we had enough to eat. But, my dinner arrived and was fully eaten before my husband's even got there. There seemed to be a great deal of variability in when food arrived for our whole tour group, and I noticed that many people didn't finish their food.
Overall, as much as we found the information interesting, I probably wouldn't book this tour again, or recommend it.

We took an afternoon tour with our friendly and personable guide Pon to Kampong Phluk. We were picked up on time and conveyed to the harbour about 50 minutes drive away from Siem Reap. The time was well spent hearing from Pon about the people living by the Tonle Sap, their livelihoods and their tavails of yearly flooding that necessitated them building their homes on tall stilts. It seems incredible that the community has to withdraw upstairs with all their belongings for months on end. Pin was passionate about the ecology and conservation measures in this region, and the importance of transmitting care for this habitat to the next generation. At the harbour we embarked on an amazing ride winding through the waterways of Kampong Phluk, we had the chance to walk the Main Street on foot with Pon explaining activities such as salting and drying lake shrimp, fishing and seasonal agriculture. We then headed out to the mangrove forests for a canoe ride (about $11) between the gnarled trunks and boughs, a very serene experience. Disembarking at a floating restaurant, we had a delicious dinner in the blaze of a glorious sunset. All in all it was a wonderful afternoon and evening spent in an absolutely unique corner of Cambodia and many thanks to our wonderful guide Pon who made it even more special.

We did this tour in July 2024. It was everything we had hoped. Seeing the floating village and the people living there and having a snapshot of their lives was incredible. We took a larger boat with a group down the river to the lake. We then had the option for $5.25pp to get into a canoe (rowed by a local) and move through the mangroves for 20-30 minutes, reaching the lake and meeting the rest of the group at a floating restaurant and the sunset for dinner. Fully recommend doing the canoe, it's worth the few dollars. Our guide Tom was fantastic and grew up in the village. He provided lots of interesting information about the village and life there. Worth the time and trip!
