Our expert local guide and driver who are both from this village will show you the Kompong Phluk rivers and the town itself, as the water levels in the great lake can vary from half meter to over 10 meters ,so can the actual village and rivers do the same,as such the village of Kompong Phluk is built on stilts some 12 meters high,to allow for the constant seasonal variation of the water. together with the flooded forest makes this a very unique and interesting village to explore,we will dock along side the Monks Training school, and inspection of the large Pergola is certainly a highlight with its extensive and beautiful art work on its walls and ceiling, with schools, homes, shops, boat builders, fishing net repairs, its certainly a great village to explore, after which we will proceed to the magical and quite flooded forests, also passing a few floating homes on our way there, all in all a great way to spend a few hours away from the Temples and enter a place time seems to have forgotten.

          What an experience
What an experience ! Do not miss the opportunity to know more about beautiful Cambodia and its beautiful people! This trip for me was about knowing little more about Cambodia and its people than its sunset.

          Long day, but very enriching!
4.5 hr van ride from SR to boat. 4.5 hour ride on boat to Phnom Penh. Long day but wonderful opportunity to see the countryside, and boat was awesome. Stop at silversmiths shop at boat launch. Beautiful lunch served on the boat and Samath, our tour guide was very knowledgeable. He stopped the boat to tour Buddhist temple along the way, an opportunity to see a countryside temple.

          Run down, creepy and pricey
Do the Apsara shows for $18pp instead; they are cheaper, cleaner and a much better spread. It creeped me out when the tour guide wiped down glasses with little tissues in front of me before the bartender made my drink. The tour in the dingy boat to the Tara was interesting, just don't recommend the sunset buffet at $38. Small selection was less than the 17 items listed(by half) and did not seem to match the menu. Dessert was fruit. Based on the flyer I really thought we'd be riding around in the Queen Tara; instead it is sitting on the lake bed. (It's not a river boat and it does not cruise.) It rocked back and forth on the mud from the wind; and the boat floor is curved. Not recommended for folks who don't have balance or can't go up and down steep inclines. Tour company should make these things clear on the flyer. The guide was great, though. And we were asked for tips when no cost extra was indicated on the flyer. Makes you feel embarrassed if you come with the exact change for the tour.... Sorry, but I did not feel I got my money's worth.....Could use some music to make it less of a ghost ship.....

One-way Siem Reap to Phnom Penh.
Excellent river cruise with our guide Sameth on the river. Sameth is very knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. Lunch was nice and this trip was enjoyable despite it being the dry season which limited the river boat portion due to river depth. Obviously, seasonal rains are not within anyone’s control and we knew this by reading their website. Thoroughly enjoyable to see Cambodian communities along the journey and much better than flying from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh.

          Siem Reap to Phnom Pen
We wanted to get from Siem Reap to phnom Pen but didn’t want to drive all the way. The Tara riverboat gave us the opportunity to cruise some of the journey. Through email correspondence we booked our place on the trip. We were picked up from our hotel in the morning by Var our driver. He spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable giving us interesting facts about Cambodia along the way. It took approximately 4hrs with a stop for refreshments. When we reached the port side to meet the boat, the transfer was seamless. The happy crew were waiting to take us and our luggage onboard. The boat was lovely and clean with sunny and shaded seating areas. Sameth our host prepared us some delicious food and beverages on request. He’s such a friendly man, very attentive and kind. He too spoke excellent English and again we chatted about the history of Cambodia and Khmer. The river trip also took around 4hrs. We felt the whole experience was very straightforward and enjoyable.

Great alternative way to get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap
A great way to get to SR from PP if you want to take your time. I ended up being the only one going in this direction so felt like a private tour. I enjoyed the leisurely boat ride up the Tonle Sap river. The guide on both this leg and the drive to SR were friendly and knowledgeable. Lunch on board the boat was delicious! At the change from boat to car, there's the chance to take a look at a local silver/goldsmith shop and a pagoda. Would recommend as a different way to travel if you want to experience a bit more culture along the way.

A MUST DO tour when you visit Siem Reap. And an excellent, responsible, tour company.
This is a Must Do trip. We did it this week with TaraRiverBoat tour company. They picked us up at our hotel in an air conditioned minivan exactly at the time they'd said. Included a great driver, Da, and a tour guide Sapor. Both did an in excellent job all day. Stopped twice on trip to Tonle Sap lake, once at traditional fish market and once to see sweet "bamboo rice" being made. Sapor gave great overview during trip to lake, at the stops and after we reached Kompong Khleang. Glad we chose that further, to ess visited village, not touristy at all. And the boat cruise from the village out onto the lake was great! Highly recommend seeing this village and that you utilize Tara Boat. Everything Tara Boat says about themselves on their website was completely born out, a high quality outfit.

A unique, special way to travel from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh!
When faced with the challenge of getting from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, we decided to do something different. Booking directly through the website was extremely easy - Peter was able to confirm our booking the same day. Our driver Dara was at our hotel early, and throughout the 4.5 hour car ride to the riverboat, he also made a couple of fun stops for us and filled us in on the local happenings. Travelling via private car was very comfortable and made for some good views of rural life. We then arrived to the Tomle Sap River and boat section of the trip right on time, where we were transferred into the hospitable care of Samath. With the whole crew keeping us safe and fed (lunch was delicious!), Samath in particular was really helpful in answering the many questions we had about life in Cambodia and keeping us entertained for the remaining 4.5 hour trip. We also made a really special stop to a temple en route to PP. All in all, we loved our time on the Tara River Boat. We would definitely recommend this trip to all in SR or PP!

Half Day local Village and school. Fantastic!!
Highly recommended, we did a half day cultural tour and learned a lot about life and culture in the village. We visited the kids at a local school and our guide was super friendly and communicative. It was an unforgettable experience and would recommend to anytwho wants to really immerse in the local culture. Thanks

Amazing sunset view and delicious food on an anchored boat
It was a beautiful, warm, clear day and so the view of the sunset was spectacular. We started by taking a boat to an alligator farm where they offer snacks for sale as well as alligator products like belts, wallets, and purses. Then they take you to the sunset boat where there’s an open bar, good music, and delicious food. Just a heads up, the sunset boat doesn’t go anywhere you just go to the boat and it stays anchored. But it’s located so that the view is great.

Mostly enjoyable, if we didn't feel ripped-off
We took the 2-day / 1-night on Tonle Sap, which happened to be 24-hour (from 1pm to 1pm, including transfers). We visited very nice villages, not invaded by tourists at all. The guide Tino was good. The excursion in Prek Toal reserve was great. The riverboat is to be runaway from, it is not only old but overall lousy, dirty, coakroches everywhere, not maintained at all, the food is average and quantities are sparse. All in all, whilst we enjoyed (except evening and night aboard), $240 per person seems a rip-off given the average to very low quality of service we got.

          Complete ripoff
Tara Boat is a complete scam. Only book with Tara tour if you want to be crammed into a small van transported to the vicinity of Phnom Penh, receive a mediocre meal and be ripped of your money. While being talked to by the most racist guide and even threatened to be killed. Worst experience in my whole south east Asia Trip. We’ve Booked a ONE-WAY LAND & CRUISE FROM SIEM REAP TO PHNOM PENH ( $ 139 PER PERSON) wich should have included a cultural experience including a visit to a silversmith and a knowledgeable guide. In the end we were cramped in a minivan. Driven to the vicinity of Phnom Penh, where we were dropped off at a bad touristic shop, no explanations what so ever. Then we went on the boat, Phnom Penh already visible from the starting point only to drift down as slowly as possible to artificially prolong our trip. The guide, who didn’t where any type of official Guide Batches or insignia, was a complete disgrace to his company and country. A full blown racist and disrespectful to anybody else. The guide starter by raging on how much he hates Chinese people, continued that everybody working for the government is a fraud. How they are all second gen Khmer rouge. The King, he said, was gay and weak, and only cares for him self. The rural people were dumb and outrageous. I just figured that this company might have changed its name to Tara Boat but it is still the same. After reaching out to them they don’t see anything wrong with them and then stoped responding. The guide even threatened us to kill me. This was by far the worst experience we’ve had travelling to Cambodia. NEVER EVER BOOK WITH TARA BOAT

I booked this tour at midnight for my wife & myself ..when arriving late at our hotel, and 8hrs later he was here!
Our guide Billy …one of the local tour guides greeted & collected from our hotel the
        Tara Ankgor at 8.30am.
He arranged the Tuk Tuk transportation as we could real life through the country roads & we visited local villages and markets on the way to the lakes.
He spoke very good English and was very friendly, knowledgeable & polite. We then got onto boat and visited the floating village, stop off and visited a Temple, and then took a boat ride through to the mangroves!
Absolutely stunning…brilliant tour and very educational.
Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Siem Reap!

Beautiful half-day tour with our guide MR Friday!
A local guide born in this floating village who knew by heart the habits of the inhabitants.
I had many guides during my trip but Mr Friday as he nicknames himself was very professional, attentive and especially happy to make us discover this corner of Cambodia.

I hope you'll have a chance to meet him in this company.

Thank you so much for your kind review of Mr Friday and our Kompong Phluk tour, we are so proud of our great guide and he does so much for the villages on the lake, he was born and bred at the floating village and runs a free school for the poorer children of that village, he has been with the tara boat family for many many years and we are also happy to support the school and in fact 100% of all our profits go towards free education on the villages you visited, so your participation on our tours will directly assist the folks of the floating villages, along with your great review, we at tara boat family, wish you safe and happy travels always, Miss Sreymom

We booked the tour with Khiri Travel. The price includes an air conditioned car, driver and an English speaking guide. Our guide Tom, was probably the best guide we’ve had in many years of travel. The tour was fascinating. Tom went out of his way to ensure that we had the opportunity to get close to real life in the village. He took great care to point out interesting activities. He took time to explain what was happening and why- he could not have done more !
Our driver Mr Jung was also a star- he drove with care and consideration and kept us safe and comfortable

The village was good however when the driver showed up in a ramork and the guide said that we only had your bookings should not have gone.
Two hours there and two hours back most of it on rough dirt tracks my back was shot I am in pain I don’t want to go out for the rest of the day or evening. I had a massage that has helped some
Not the fault of the guide. I won’t book another trip with these, I was told they were the best, I cannot give no stars. And the Ramiork had little to no suspensions paid for a car or van get a motorcycle with trailer

Hi, i am so sorry to hear about this, yes we use a tuk tuk if we only have just one person, i will ask our staff to check what tuk tuk we used and check it for the suspensions, we normal get positive reviews when using the tuk tuks as you can see a lot more, but i will ask our staff about the conditions of the roads, hope you are ok now and please accept my sincere apologizes, Miss Sreymom.

We had a fabulous tuk-tuk trip to the lake with Hong. The tour included a walk in a country market, a boat ride on the river & lake, & a half-hour rowboat ride in the jungle waters of the river. We especially enjoyed the tuk-tuk ride instead of a car. Hong is a local who had a lot of knowledge about the area. We learned a lot & enjoyed this 5 hour trip.

In a tuk tuk from Siem Reap to the authentic Ro Lus market in Prasat Bakong, where you can find everything you need for your daily needs - vegetables, fruit, meat and fish - unpackaged, just as it comes from the animal. Our guide Mr. Friday picked us up from the hotel and explained everything very well in English. The boat trip to and through Kompong Phluk - unique! Even those who know Venice will be impressed! It is very quiet on the trip through the mangrove forest. If you are lucky, you will see monkeys, like we did.
Thank you for the good explanations and background information, Mr. Friday.

It was really interesting ans our guide and driver couldn't do enough for us. We stopped dat a village market enroute which was fascinating and a little taste of how people live their life. We were provided with water and fruit and everything went to clockwork.

We visited during the dry season in March and We thoroughly enjoyed today learning more about the different Cambodian villages, seeing a primary school, exploring the fresh meat, fish, fruit/veg markets, saw the stilt homes out of water, and floating homes. Our guide, bus driver and boat driver all were excellent. We were picked up and dropped back to our tour. Recommended tour!

Our guide Tuk Tuk driver and boat skipper were all superb. The whole trip was very unhurried.

I was disappointed to hear that guides are no longer salaried (since Covid). I would like to see trip advisor supporting more ethical tourism.
