Tara River Boat from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh - best way to travel
I opted to travel by bus and boat from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh in stead of flying. Am so pleased that I found Tara River Boat. The guides were friendly and spoke good enough English for me to ask questions and find out more about life in Cambodia. Its a fairly long trip and the roads were very busy due to Cambodia New Year. I boarded the boat for the final 3.5 hours of the journey and especially enjoyed the trip on the river. Would highly recommend this mode of transport from SR to PP, but make sure you put the whole day aside as it took a full 9 hours - including 2 stops.

As advertised but wouldn't do again.
Although this trip was exactly as advertised, I wouldn't do it again. The tour guide, bus and boat drivers were excellent. The reason I wouldn't do it again is that I felt exploited by locals by having to spend so much time in their shop and the boarding of the company's sister ship to buy lunch/drinks. Neither were of interest to either me or the other traveler yet we spent 25/15 minutes in each. Wish I would have spent the time visiting more temples instead.

Great guide and fascinating cruise along the floating village and to stop on the queen tara for beer food and sunset, well worth 37 dollar

Excellent tour to see the fishing villages on stilts and floating good in wet or dry season.
We visited during the dry season in March and We thoroughly enjoyed today learning more about the different Cambodian villages, seeing a primary school, exploring the fresh meat, fish, fruit/veg markets, saw the stilt homes out of water, and floating homes. Our guide, bus driver and boat driver all were excellent. We were picked up and dropped back to our tour. Recommended tour!

        Not recommend at all
Total scam! They sell you a totally overpriced boat trip from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, but actually it's a five hour minibus trip and then a one and a half hour boat trip. And for this $139 are way too much. The journey started with a guy telling me to pay him cash but he actually didn't even boarded the minibus, which left me with a very bad feeling. The driver himself didn't speak any English and couldn't answer my questions regarding the trip. After a five hour drive, we boarded the boat where we were explicitly told that we are allowed to drink 1 coke and 1 beer. But to be honest, there wasn't anything more anyway as the cooling box was dirty and empty. The boat guide was very unfriendly and became quite aggressive, when we (everyone doing this trip) complained. He even refused to talk to us for the rest of the trip. I would definitely not recommend this trip as you can get way cheaper, better and friendlier options to travel from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh or vice versa.

        Great day!
Awesome afternoon and evening. Guide was fun and personable. Sunset was spectacular. Rowboat through the submerged forest is optional but don’t say no. It was fascinating. As was the town on stilts. The tuk tuk ride was VERY dusty! It was fun but the dust was everywhere!

        worst experience ever
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM TOUR. Nothing was as advertised: - not the same boat in the photos - we made 33km by boat out of the total theoretical 300+km river ride, the rest via a grueling van ride. Yes, they indicated the boat ride was about 4 hours, but this was due to the really slow boat - the river is basically like an open sewer and unfortunately.. - the lunch included: guide scooped the food with his hands, washed dishes in the dirty river - guide did not speak English (vs. what was advertised) - pickup from the hotel was via 2 tuktuks for our family of 5 including luggages Complained and asked for a partial refund but was rebuffed (as I see as well with their comments here)

Sunset river cruise in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap
Safety certainly is not in the operator consideration. The “jetty” if I may call it is on un level dried up mud track follow by a plank go for 1 person to walk on at any one time. Getting off the boat to the floating restaurant can be challenging if you do not have long legs to reach the steps. When returning from boat after sunset, the foot path is dark which adds more challenges to the walk back to the bus. Similar experience in Phnom Penh sunset river cruise.

Be carefull this tours are a scam !We booked the cruise from Siem Rep to Phnom Phen from this company. After a long and quite dangourous van ride of around 5h we finally arrived at the river boat. Unfortuntly there was no welcome drink like described but only one water and one beer per person. We did not vist a floating village like expacted but just saw some 'houses' far away (Foto is the highlight from what we saw on the cruise). Defenetly a scam for the really high price of 135$ per Be carefull this tours are a scam !We booked the cruise from Siem Rep to Phnom Phen from this company. Definitely not to be missed!
We had a great trip with Houng. Only one other couple on our trip so almost a one to one tour! Very interesting stops on the way and we really enjoyed the boat trip. The sunset was amazing and then travelling back at night quite an experience.

        First class!
Fabulous tour - the guide Tino was fantastic, excellent English, his local knowledge really made this a special trip. Very nice lunch on Tara Queen. Extremely highly recommended - especially if your guide is as good as Tino was. Also visited a local market and crocodile farm. Thank you

        Great half-day Siem Reap outing!
We had a fabulous tuk-tuk trip to the lake with Hong. The tour included a walk in a country market, a boat ride on the river & lake, & a half-hour rowboat ride in the jungle waters of the river. We especially enjoyed the tuk-tuk ride instead of a car. Hong is a local who had a lot of knowledge about the area. We learned a lot & enjoyed this 5 hour trip.

I booked the Full Day Tour of Kompong Phluk, Tonle Sap Lake. It included pick-up at the hotel, car drive to where the boats are, boat to Chong Khneas and most importantly Kompong Phluk.

The guide, Mony, picked me up at the correct time, he was good in English if you compare to many other guides in Asia. Mony did during the whole trip explain everything that I saw, and he was friendly and helpful.

I mostly booked to trip because I wanted to get som great photos of the villages. The boats that are traveling with are a bit worn down, and so it Taraboat, so don't expect them to be in topnotch condition, but they are working as expected and they will take you to the different places.

The first stop, Chong Khneas is a very touristy place. Lots of children who hold up snakes and says "give me one dollar, give me one dollar". Sounds like a mantra. You will however get some great shots in Chong Khneas if you look for angles where you don't have other tourists in your view.

The next stop, Kompong Phluk was superb! I was the only tourist there when I arrived, and people here were just doing their normal stuff. No one in the village begged for money, and no one seemed to care about me walking there. Just like I want it!
Do however not that a few people will try to sell you some minor items when the boat arrives to Kompong Phluk.

The final stop before lunch was the flooded forest in Kompong Phluk. A really odd view, and a nice short trip, but not something that you will remember for the rest of your life.

Lunch was on the Taraboat back in Chong Khneas. Taraboat is also a bit worn down, but the food was very good.

I can really recommend this trip if you like photography or if you want to see how people live in the fishing villages.

One of the things that impressed me most was however that Taraboat didn't cancel the trip even though I was the only one who had booked it. That's what I call service!
