I booked a half day private Luang Prabang city tour with this company. They were efficient in acknowledging the reservation and good in reminding us of arrangements we had made.

On the day of the tour, we made sure to be at reception by 5:40 a.m. as requested, only to be told that we would leave at 6:00 a.m. (we could have used the extra minutes of sleep!). I was surprised to be asked by the tour guide what our itinerary was, since I expected him to know what the plan for the day was. After sorting out our schedule, we headed to the first activity of the morning, the almsgiving ceremony.

We appreciated being taken to a less touristy area where we felt that our participation in the almsgiving ceremony was authentic. We received a very useful briefing on how we should conduct ourselves and were surprised to know that photos and videos of the event could be taken (our guide dutifully took those photos and videos). Note that if you do not want to or cannot (i.e., if you have difficulty staying seated on a low stool for a long period of time) participate in the ceremony, you can opt to simply watch it from a respectful distance.

We then proceeded to the morning market, a very pleasant sensory experience for morning people like us. Our guide answered all the questions that we had and even helped us to interact with the locals.

After a brief stop at the hotel for breakfast, we proceeded to visit Was Xiong Tong, the Luang Prabang Museum, That Phu Si, and the paper village. If you are not in very good physical condition, then skip the climb to That Phu Si (it takes about 300 steps to get to the top ).

Our guide tried his best to answer all of our questions and apologised when he could not. His English was generally good, but I hope that it improves with time so that he can be a more effective guide.

Inexpensive tour but very kind and full of hospitality. Before I join I had a bit worry about theft and fall from an elephant, but everything was okay. You can just leave all the valuables in your hostel and come to the tour, and sit firm on the elephant, relying on her and staffs who you ride on the elephant with!

Communication with tour company all good and guide Samedi arrived at hotel on time and explained itinerary for afternoon. It is very helpful having an experienced guide at the National museum and central temples to explain the history of Luang Prabang and Laos. Modest dress is required at the National
Museum and you have to put all bags, mobile etc in a locker before entering the palace.
Visit to all central temple sites and a nice walk down to the Mekong River to stop for a drink and snacks. Tour finished with a walk up main hill in centre of town with a temple at the top..be aware this is a very steep climb and not for the less abled. Entrance fee payable half way up of 20,000 Kip (£2) but the views at the top are fantastic and worth the climb. Great at sunset. You come down an easier route after Hadley’s through local houses which is really interest then van back to hotel. Nice little introduction tour of Luang Prabang by knowledgeable and friendly guide. Recommended. Note that entrance fees are not included but don’t add up to more than around 80,000 Kip (around £8).
