- BK98765432100Outstanding trip to the delta !My wife and I joined several friends for a trip to the Danube delta prior to a conference in Bucharest. It was coordinated by Ilie (Sorry if misspelled !) and one of his driver guides. It was an amazing photo tour of the incredible biodiversity of the delta - truly one of the most unique areas of the world. Our guides were not only familiar with the natural history of the flora and fauna of the delta but were also expert at photographing the migratory and resident birdlife. The lodging was arranged at a wonderful boutique hotel in Mila 23 that served delicious family style meals for our group. My only regret was that I did not bring my best camera for the trip and that we couldn't make our trip longer.
- N1666LOhelenc00Amazing adventure in the Danube Delta. We (a family of 4) took the 3 night, 4 day birdwatching and Letea tour. Victor was an amazing guide, extremely knowledgeable about birds, local flora and fauna and the history of the region. We saw so many birds- two types of pelican, kingfishers, white tipped sea eagles, a hobby, not to mention snakes, a jackal and the wild horses. Nothing was too much trouble for him. The guesthouse - Alexandra and Alexandru- was spotlessly clean with very hard working staff. The swimming pool was a very welcome extra after hot days out in the delta. Vegetarian food was provided on request and was both plentiful and delicious. An added bonus was the singing and dancing provided one evening by local performers. Overall we were very impressed- the tour was exactly as described. Very well organised with a high standard of facilites and clear explanations throughout. We absolutely loved our time in the delta! Thank you.
- danalX4825BB00The most spectacular travel on the channels of Danube!Favorite part : the whole trip!! We discovered Danube Delta it was an absolute trip, feom early morning till near sunset on stupendous channels, speechless,...also the tour guide exquisite. We will never forget and by all means come back. Thank you.
- Bjorn O00Highly RecommendedI am a professional wildlife photograper and author based in Singapore. The purpose of my visit was do research for a chapter in a future wildlife publication. I had booked a 8 day programme with Iliuta; three days bear watching in Transulvania and spending the rest of the time in the Danube Dela. Iluita and his staff handled the trip promptly and competently from the beginning to the end. Iliuta's professional photo experience and extensive knowledge of fauna and flora proved invaluable during my visit, and he managed to make sure that we were at the right place and time to maximise the many photo opportunities. It should be added that I got excellent images of all key species on my list.
- colinsH790RD00Birds and bearsIliuta was very helpful and attentive and tried to maximise our photography opportunities. Bears were co-operative and great to photograph from the hide. Sadly the vultures were terrorised by a deer and after 3 days in the hide we were unable to get any feeding shots. It also meant we were limited on taking other photos as we couldn’t risk scaring aware the vultures. Other birds were easier to photograph, some at short distance and others needing longer lens. Accommodation good and food also good. Would definitely book up another trip with them to focus on other birds.
- rothandrea00fantastic Bird Watching and Nature TourExcellent Tour if you are an admirer of Wildlife and Nature. We were guided excellently through the Danube Delta paradise. Great sunrise and sunsets, many many birds and intersting plants to discover. We also saw wild horses. And last but not least did we get an idea about the traditional life.... and we enjoyed fantastic fish dishes!
- karenf33300A Haven in the WildernessWhat a wonderful day out we had. Left our hotel this morning at 7.30am with tour guide Dinca Alin for the quite long drive to Tulcea and the Danube Delta. It's a 4 hour trip, some freeway and some secondary roads passing through rich agricultural land, planted with various grain crops, some deciduous forests and a number of towns on the way. In some of these we saw storks in nests on top of electricity poles, and lovely horse drawn carts. The trip was made very enjoyable and pleasant by Alin's friendly, witty and humorous way of sharing information and stories and the time went quite quickly. When we arrived at Tulcea we were met by our river boat captain and the four of us set out to explore a little of this huge delta area which covers about 5,000sqkm. We meandered along numerous waterways edged with trees and reeds and into open lake areas then narrow again. On the way we saw quite a number of birds, heron, egret, tern, cormorant, pelican, swan and more. Some of the highlights were seeing bright golden and blue kingfisher, an eagle perched high in a tree, and many nesting cormorants and spoonbills. Our visit to a fisherman's family home for lunch was really special. With warm hospitality we were treated to great fish soup with creamy garlic, delicious fish roe (I think is taramasalata) for our bread and added fish, potatoes and vegetables that had been cooked in the soup. Then came the scrumptious fried fish, all of which had been freshly caught from the river by the family and cooked for us. After a really pleasant hour there, eating, enjoying and soaking up the atmosphere reclining in swing chairs it was time to return to land and the drive back to Bucharest. A thoroughly enjoyable day and a very worthwhile and valued tour. Thanks so much Alin for a memorable day.
- Philippe S00Great trip into the heart of the Delta.Excellent three nights and two full days trip with excursions from Mila 23. Victor was the perfect guide and bootsman and we saw all the highlights of birds. Easygoing and very respectful of nature. The modern open boat used made for better viewing and experiencing of the surroundings
- D1141CMmariav00Outstanding 3 night tourOur guide Victor was outstanding. Friendly, helpful and we saw 47 bird species. Great company, met from Bucharest airport and driven to Tulcea. Accommodation basic but adequate in Mila 23 for 3 nights.
- Mamitxoh00Brilliant Birding in the Delta and DobrogeaThis guided birding trip for two included three nights based in Mila 23 to tour the Delta and three nights in Tulcea to tour the Dobrogea countryside. Birding guide Marius and boatman Janut were brilliant at finding our target species and helping us get good looks at them, while also respecting the welfare of the birds. Marius speaks English well and went out of his way to ensure we knew and saw the field marks for confident identification. The hotel in Mila 23 is beautiful and the food delicious, though the quantities a bit overwhelming. The hotel in Tulcea is basic but clean and comfortable. Tour costs are posted clearly on the company website. The 221 euros/person/night was a splurge for us but the good organization, expert guiding, friendly company, and insights offered into Romanian culture made it worth it for us.
- FrogBandit00One of the best things I ever did in my life.I did the photography tour and everything was just incredible. It's hard going, but totally worth it. It's so beautiful there and the wildlife and birdlife is stunning. Special thanks to Calina, Marius, and Ionut. You were all amazing and work so hard! The accommodation is beautiful and the staff there are so nice! Thank you to all who made my stay so wonderful! I hope one day to return to the delta and witness its magic again!
- meganlE6141NJ00Exceptional experienceHighly recommend it. The guide is extremely knowledgeable on birds, plants and fish. He's very easy to talk to, and goes out of his way to ensure you have the best experience possible. He's also a photographer and therefore understands how to position the boat for the best lighting and composition (if these are possible to manipulate under the circumstances). Lunch and cocktails were also all devine. No complaints whatsoever
- Maytrea00Brilliant tour of the Danube DeltaWe took a four-day birding tour of the Delta and it was brilliant. The two of us had a guide, Mihai, and Stefan who piloted the boat, and it felt like a small team - and was fun. Mihai is also a botanist and when he found out that I was interested in plants and trees, he identified those species as well as the birds. Both he and Stefan were brilliant at spotting birds - and an otter eating a fish, what a bonus. The Delta is so peaceful, it was a real escape from life to swan around in the boat (our boat and Stefan in the picture above!), looking at the different scenes of lake and branches of the delta, and just enjoying the quiet. We had a day's trip to the Letea primeval forest, which was fascinating, and saw village life in the delta that was more remote than Mila 23, where we stayed. We saw over a hundred different species of birds, including a couple of rare visitors to the Delta - how they spotted some of the tiny ones, I do not know. One one day we met the owner of the company taking a party around himself - the fact that it is run by a birder himself confirmed to me that this company takes their programmes seriously. The Delta is a huge area, and there are some beautiful lakes, with extensive water plants such as white and yellow water lilies, ranunculus, and water chestnut, with yellow iris on the margins. All these contribute to the beauty of the lakes and waterways.
- Y-Brasil-Jerusalem00Fantastic, friendly, safe, highly recommendedA couple with a young child, the private trip was exquisite. From the first contact eith Calina at the office, were all answers answered helpfully, friendly and professionaly to the tour itself guided by the wonderful Iliuţa ... a kind, knowledgable guide, who was patient, modest, explained everything wewanted and more, was attuned to our interests and needs, as well as our 8 years old.. it was a beatiful journey in unspoiled nature, despite the cold weather it was warm in the heart , exciting and unique. Our hosts at the MILA23 hotel and the village we went to were great, food .. I can't describe, honemade local fresh fish, pastry, Mamaliga, Gogoş, wine , just unbeleivable. I can't thank enough and recommend enough. Actually, whatever you need you'll be taken care of. Highly recommend the private tour which enables choosing, stopping, enjoying nature in serenity, DESCUPRA DELTA DUNARII is the best. And you ended feeling it was YOUR adventure, as the guide does just that, guide you, tell you stories but does not impose anything. An experience to cherish for life
- Dusan A00Excellent photo tour in DeltaWe spent three full days in Delta Danube. Photo tour trip was organized via Discover Danube Delta. Our guide was Ilia. I can say that it was just excellent. Ilia is highly customer oriented person. He is very familiar with Danube Delta and he knows each channel and places with different type of birds there. It was unique experience thanks to Ilia and his team.

If like me you are looking for a trip to see the fantastic birds and scenery of the delta and think this longer trip offers a better chance. You are choosing the WRONG trip.
Our guide was excellent, knowledgable and had his detailed bird guide handy for any in depth queries. But he quite rightly apologised throughout the trip and at the end for having to go fast. This trip has too much distance to cover in the day and it is definitely a SPEED boat.
The engine was 400hp and these boats are uncomfortable at speed, a great deal of wind noise harsh over even small waves and a nightmare in rain (like stones).
The speed is needed to reach Letea by 12.30 and then get back by 6.30. In Latea we spent around 40 min in an truck on bouncy roads for two stops an old oak with some native plants and wild horses and an eroding sand dune. Exploration is not allowed due to the protected nature of the reserve. The sacrifice to get there (missing out in more bird stops in the delta/ going at a reasonable pace is in no way worth the result.
Was I pleased I saw the delta 100% yes. Perhaps this and the excellent guide helps explain other positive reviews. But it was equally definitely not the best way to see and enjoy the wildlife or scenery. Choose a shorter distance trip - all the better if still lasts a long time.

Dear Mr David,
I would like to highlight some aspects:
1. Please don’t mislead other customers, just because this tour was not your taste. It is only a matter of personal taste and opinions.
2. The tour is very well described on our website, how long it takes (10-11 hours), that you will go with a safari car to see the forest and the sand dunes; and it is also specified that is a very long day trip. I would like to remind you that this tour is not a birding tour, it is just a nature enthusiast tour , with the purpose of reaching Letea and visiting Letea (things that you have described on your comment). Please don’t confuse birding day trip wich cost 400 euro, with a group tour at Letea wich cost 60 euro.
3. A day trip to Letea, means a guide and a destination (which is not our property); and as you have mentioned above „Our guide was excellent, knowledgeable”, so i really don’t understand your 2 stars!!!!
4. A speed boat as you mention few times, make this trip in 4 -5 hours not in 10-11! Our engines has maximum 115ph not 400hp as you have mentioned (telling things that are not true means A FALS STATEMENTS). Letea trip have to cover 200 km, in 6 hours of boat drive...please calculate the speed!!! In more then 10 years (of photographers/birdwatchers/nature enthusiasts), nobody complained about the boat being uncomfortable.
5. You did not sacrificed anything by choosing this tour, because our services (the guide, the punctuality, the program) as you have mentioned was excellent.
Next time you should pay attention in what you really want, and book it accordingly; because you just transform your personal taste in a bad review that harm others.
Your tendentios comment just offense the entire team.
Best regards,
Calina

Wonderful day trip with a perfect guide. It was just great. We had a group trip but with a small group and this was just nice. Our guide Bogdan was really nice and told us so much about the delta, the nature and he is able to see every bird everywhere.
We started in the delta and went to the island letea. There we had another tour. Bogdan told us a lot about the nature there too. After that we had a great lunch at a little restaurant on this island. There was a lot of fresh fish, a fish soup, vegetables, fried fish, ... also a dessert was included. For me as a vegetarian it was also very delicious. I had a plate full of vegetables, an eggplantcream, fresh tomato an so on. 💚 so don’t be worry about the dinner, it will be great too.
We had a lot of time to look around, taking photos and rest a bit. After this we went back an saw some more birds and an swimming reed bed (now we know why it is swimming 🙂)
All in all we highly recommend this tour. With a guide like Bogdan and good equipment it becomes the best day of your vacation! Thank you very much for this wonderful trip!

I went with Discover Dabube Delta for a day trip in the Danube delta up to Letea. True it was a speedboat because of the distance it had to travel and as such there was no shade during the boat trip but I didn't mind the sun at all as the wind makes up for it and the guide stopped the boat at the interesting parts so as to note the large abundance of wildife, including the pelicans at close distance. The safari in Letea was a different and also enjoyable experience and our guide explained everything we saw. I must commend this company so much because although we were a small group on the day (not a usual occurrence) it was not cancelled and most probably done at a loss to the company. I really hope that so much more people go on this tour to experience the wildlife and serenity that can only be seen here. People of an older age may not like the speed of the speedboat and so opt for the slower and more serene ones which however cover less area but are enjoyable all the same. I did both and can still not choose which was better.

What an amazing day on the Danube! There was so much to see and we learned so much thanks to our guide, Viktor who had a wealth of knowledge on the birds and animals we saw (great white pelicans, swans, white-tailed eagle to name a few) as well as floating islands and water lilies.
There were some amazing smaller channels that really made you feel as if you were IN the Delta, and many of them were accompanied by great stories on how the channels got their names.
It was a long day with more than enough stops to allow you to stretch your legs and an unexpected treat was when the boat sped up in the open water when there was nothing to see. I didn't think I would appreciate the speed on the water but I had such a fantastic time.
And the stop for lunch at a lovely private home in Letea on the Delta? I packed sandwiches for my husband and I because we're vegan but the family was great and made up vegan plates for us to have something to eat as well, including some delicious Zacusca and plenty of fresh veggies. Overwhelming and wonderful and I totally recommend.

The boat trip was great! Saw lots of birds which the boat driver explained well. The wild horses were also spectacular.
Visit to Letia and lunch was great.
The Land Rover trip to a ‘forest’ could have been left out of itinerary. Instead- would have preferred to carry on to Simula

We did the full day tour from Tulcea to Letea and return. This included the boat and ‘safari’ section. We had an amazing day and it was one of our highlights of our trip to Romania.
Victor was our guide and he was excellent from start to finish. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and so passionate about the region and its beautiful nature and ecosystems. He taught us so much and even let us use his binoculars to get a closer look at interesting things. We saw so many species of birds and wild horses etc.
The lunch in Letea was great too, we loved the fish soup and the sweets at the end were some of the best we had.
The only advice I would give to people interested in doing the tour is make sure to pack some sunscreen and a hat! It is a long time on the water in the sun, so as long as you go prepared you will have a great time and follow the tips that the guide posts on their website!
Thank you again Victor!!

Into the pristine #danubedelta with @discoverdanubedelta today, traveling from #Tulcea to the island of #Letea.
Saw so much #flora and #fauna including #whitetailedeagles, #pelicans, feral #horses, #waterlilies, #ibis, #frogs and #PurpleHerons to name but a few. Our guide, Marius, also saved a #moorhen from a fish trap.

The trip was simply amazing. The views are astonishing and the guide was really well informed and always keen on sharing some extra info and funny stories. The lunch at the village was extremely tasty. Generally the whole experience was totally worth the price and I am really happy that we chose this tour.
