Seeing the Communist history of Yugoslavia is fun? Yes! Instead of 'Don't touch' there are 'hand' signs to show you where to look in each cabinet or place, to see what the typical home life was like. Also interactive phone app to see related videos. Take a break from old museums and get an education into that era.

The museum is small, but absolutely worth the trip - located in the Dubrovnik port area, about 35 min walk from the city centre or 12 € for a taxi. If you want to learn more about the communist history of Yugoslavia and Croatia, this is the place to be - from everyday life to the intelligence service, everything is there. The exhibition is extremely well curated, with much attention to detail and a love for great story-telling. It is very interactive, you can sit in a Yugo car, listen to the greatest hits or explore an authentic flat of the time. You also have the option to download an augmented reality app which is extremely well done. The museum is interesting for those who are already interested in this part of history as well as for those who are completely new to it - absolute recommendation for your visit if you want to go beyond the classic sightseeing in the city centre.

A great museum to visit, I really liked the interactive displays. Nino was very informative and welcoming. I saw a fair few things from the 1980's that reminded me of my childhood, or just how old I'm getting! Helps to get a better understanding of the more modern
history of the country, a nice balance after visiting Old Town

A very nice little museum where you can spend alot of time, investigating for yourself and interacting with practically anything inside. Open the drawers, sit behind the Yugo or exercise on old 80's exercise kits. There is also the augmented reality app, which is not used that often (I would like to see more of it in the future!), but it certainly adds another layer to the whole experience. There is also a bar with a terrace where you can buy some drinks from Yugoslavia that still exist today, and with events on a weekly basis. This new kind of museum experience is what Dubrovnik really needed!

Fascinating museum on life under communist rule in Yugoslavia. Really cool and insightful interactive exhibits with a good depth of historical content as well. Definitely worth the 10 minute bus journey from the old town! Best museum we went to in Dubrovnik.

Great overview of everyday life in ex-Yugoslavia. You can learn good and bad things about federal country which Croatia was part of from 1945 till 1991 . It was great experience and must see if you are history geek. Love it!

This museum was really fun and also informative. We loved how you could interact with everything, listen to records, sit in the Yugo, etc. Definitely worth the trip outside of the main tourist area. We had fun but also learned a lot!

Since this was our first trip to Croatia we were looking for information about the history of the country and the city of Dubrovnik. In the city center, we were slightly disappointed with the amount of information available. During our visit to the Red History Museum, we encountered the exact opposite. The information is full of interesting stories that enable us, visitors, to get an insight into the living standard during the time of Yugoslavia. The museum is interactive in a way that all senses are triggered, which is very fun. Thank you for the pleasant visit, I would definitely recommend it!!

Awesome way to spend an hour! Niño took the time to explain the museum and how to use the app to get the most out of it. The place is full of everyday artifacts from the past life under communist government. Then I hung out with Nino and his friends in the attached bar. Highly recommended! It’s walkable from the old city or a short $5 Uber ride. Definitely a highlight of my week in Dubrovnik.
