Fun and educational tour of Antigua. Our guide was wonderful. He kept us on track and showed us places we never would have found on our own. Bu walking we really got to interact with the culture of the island stopping often for snack and drinks from local vendors. I highly recommend.

        Very Disappointed
Very unprofessional. They cancelled last minute with no explanation after previously confirming and charging my credit card. This last minute cancellation did not allow us time to book another tour. I would strongly recommend avoiding this operator if you want to avoid disappointment last minute.

Beautiful views and a challenging hike!
The driver was so nice and early at our pre-arranged meeting spot. He waited there until our hike was over and was very knowledgeable about the local area. Kevin, our guide to the top was quick and always checked on us. We did the whole experience in 4-5 hours to include an hour ride in both directions from Antigua. Your mileage may vary depending how in shape you are. Accent to top is about 1800 ft from entrance with a typical 20-35 degree grade so be prepared. The pizza at the top costs Q.250 so if that’s an experience you want to try it is available to you. We were pleased with both of our guides and had a great time. Kevin also took great pictures.

History, Coffee, Jade, Candles, and Chocolate Oh My!
Carlos was an amazing guide! Very passionate, and knowledgeable about the history of Antigua. He picked me up and dropped me off at my hotel and provided great recommendations for my time in Antigua (e.g. restaurants, drinks & foods to try, etc.). He also included a couple of sub-tours to learn about coffee, jade, candle, and chocolate making. Highly recommend.

Trip of a lifetime even with less than perfect conditions
We had an amazing trip with Melvin as our guide. One of the people in our group had a birthday on the second day of the Hike and he brought a little cake for her which I thought was really considerate and over and beyond. We went I may and the conditions were cold and foggy. But still Melvin helped make the most of it. We got up the mountain in about 5hrs. It’s a challenging hike and is basically a meter a mile! It was really hot at the bottom but as we started to ascend it got so much colder. Luckily the company provides jackets, beanies, and gloves for no extra charge. I would also encourage you to get a hiking stick only 5q. We got the hiking piled which were 50q and I wish we would have each just gotten a stick. I would also encourage you to get a headlamp or bring one because the second day you start at 4am. It is pitch black and a difficult climb you don’t want to try and carry a phone light or something. We were provided with meals at the bottom and had to hike up with them. We are our lunch at the halfway point of our climb. Our lunch included some delicious vegetables chicken and rice. Once we got to our camp sight we all hung out in our tents for a bit and came out for a fire hangout with marshmallows and hot chocolate. That really raised the moral of the group as we were so tired. If you were smart enough to wait Melvin our guide headed up your dinner so you could have a hot meal. We ate our in our tent early on at 5pm as we were starving from the climb and everyone else ate dinner after 7pm. Dinner included an Asian inspired stir fry with rice. Unfortunately this really upset my stomach and made the rest of the trip a little uncomfortable. We unfortunately had a ton of fog while we were at camp but had a lucky moment where the clouds parted and we could see fuego blowing smoke while the sunset. It was beautiful. You can do an extra hike that 3hrs round trip to see it more up lose. Another bad timing thing was that fiego was only smoking and had no lava flow and was covered in clouds. So it didn’t make a lot of sense to do the extra hike for us. It’s an additional 200q per person if you decide to do the hike. Also you will be walking back in the dark if you decide to do the extra hike. We then woke up at 3:30am and started the hike to the summit at 4pm. We got to the summit at around 5am and waited for the sunrise. Unfortunately it was super foggy and never really cleared. We were lucky that once we got back to camp we got gifted about 5minutes of clear sky to see both augua and fuego in the sunrise. We then ate some cold pancakes a banana and some hot oatmeal (more like a porrage) and hot coffee for breakfast. It started raining so we left the fire and ate inside our tents. After eating we headed down and it took us around 2 hrs to get to the bottom. There was a ton of traffic from other very large groups defending at the same time. But we were able to descend quickly. A more normal time is 3 hrs. Overall this was an experience of a lifetime. Even though conditions weren’t perfect Melvin really made it a great trip and shared lots of facts about the mountain that made it more magical when we did get to see it. We only had 6 people total in our group unlike some groups which looked closer to 20. The camping mats were pretty uncomfortable but we were toasty warm in our tents and sleeping bags. Even though most of our group spoke Spanish Melvin spoke in Spanish mainly (which we could understand most of) but also spoke great English when we wanted to have more in depth conversations.

BE WARY OF BOOKING WITH THIS AGENCY
I booked the Acatenango 2 day hike with this agency through TripAdvisor. The night before the hike, Paraiso messaged me to say they had “canceled my tour by mistake” and that I should turn up at the hike meeting point and “pay the driver directly”. I was then very concerned because this isn’t how a TripAdvisor booking should work, and so felt it would be unsafe to go to Acatenango with this agency. I did get a refund through TripAdvisor but missed out on the hike. Was very disappointed and would caution against using Paraiso.

        Definitely worth it
The guides are entertaining and know how to keep you motivated during the hike. The hike is challenging, but they'll work with you to make it as comfortable as possible. Enjoy camping near a volcano and be open to a different experience. I would recommend it 100%.

Comprehensive and informative walking tour of Antigua
Earlier this week I enjoyed this excellent walking tour. My guide was Carlos. He was very friendly and knowledgable. For nearly 4 hours we walked to all corners of the city, and Carlos shared many stories, historical facts, and interesting information about the various building and ruins we saw. I would highly recommend this experience if you visit Antigua!

        Walking tour with Carlos
The walking tour was a must for visiting Antigua! I had much more appreciation for the things I saw after learning about the history. Carlos was my guide and he was very knowledgeable and friendly! He answered any questions I had and made excellent recommendations for places to eat, drink, coffee, etc. I was very comfortable with him and in the city in general, even being a solo female traveler. We finished the tour over coffee and a chess game. Highly recommend!

        Great tour, highly recommend
My husband and I had a great experience with our guide Fidencio. He was full of knowledge and his passion for history really shone through. He was a great communicator, English was excellent, and very personable. Our tour was around 4hrs and saw a lot of things we wouldn’t have been able to find on our own, given Antigua’s nooks and crannies. I highly recommend this tour if you want a deeper understanding of the city, it’s history, and it’s peoples.
