Discover the history of the ancient Mayan Civilization of Iximche. The site was ruled by the Kaqchikel from the 12th - 15th century. At the time of the Spanish conquest, Iximche was the second most important city in the Guatemalan Highlands, after the K'iche' capital at Q'umarkaj. The architecture of the site includes four Ceremonial Plazas surrounded by temples, structures up to 10m high and two ball courts. There's also a small Museum displaying sculptures and ceramics found at Iximche during the excavations (CLOSED ON MONDAY). This site is considered to be the first capital of Guatemala (founded by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Alvarado). Our van will pick you up at your hotel between 7:20 am through 7:40 am. Our estimated time of arrival is around 9:00am, where our bilingual local guide will meet you to start the tour. He will begin by giving a general information of the site, and for this he will take you to the small museum, located at the entrance. From this point on, you will start to understand and learn how the Maya´s lived, and protected them from their enemies. Each plaza has its unique story, and each plaza gives you a glance on how their society was structured. The tour will be over around 11am in Antigua.

      A big adventure
This tour was everything my family and I hoped for. First was a treacherous bus ride, no way around it but the bus was comfy and it was worth the trip. Take meds if you’re queasy. Then at Lago Atitlan, we ate breakfast, then boated to and from 3 additional villages. There was a guide for each family (Elena and Kevin stayed with us). They were kind, considerate, and so knowledgeable. They are locals and showed us their home in that way. We learned so much about Mayan culture and had plenty of time to show and explore. We stopped in for a textile lesson, chocolate making lesson, and then tuktuks around the fourth village. I would highly recommend the Tuktuk option in the fourth town. There was food options for even the pickiest of eaters, and we all enjoyed (ages 4-60, family of 8). This is a full day adventure! But Kevin made it so enjoyable for us and we will talk about forever.

Perfect Way to Visit Lake Atitlán from Antigua in a Short Trip!
This day trip to Lake Atitlán was the ideal way to experience the beauty of the lake and its surroundings in a short amount of time. We visited the main points of interest around the lake, which allowed us to soak in the charm and culture of several towns in one day. My favorite part was the breathtaking views throughout the trip—they were truly unforgettable. Despite the packed itinerary, the tour was well-organized, making it easy to enjoy the highlights without feeling rushed. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone short on time but eager to see as much as possible. It’s an efficient and rewarding way to experience the magic of Lake Atitlan.

Looking for affordable option from Antigua? With option of pizza Pacaya too?
We used Voyageurs tours from Antigua included shuttle and guide. You can book with Trip Advisor - their website links here. Shuttle picked up and dropped off at our hotel in Antigua and we were able to order Pizza Pacaya too. You just email them or WhatsApp and ask them for instructions if you want to do that. But the entrance is separate and 100 quetzales currently. The hike started difficult for me because of altitude and people on horses right on your heels but I’ve done similar hikes at lower elevation no problem and am not a sow hikers but once I slowed down a little bit from my normal pace and thanks to the guide I got my mind right it was fine after that. It was soft volcanic ash trail mostly up. We had clouds but still was amazing. If you think you can do it do not give in to the horses and take some deep breaths and I promise it gets a little easier on the lungs, just take your time! Our guide was Irwin/Mono. He enjoyed teaching us about the plants too and was so great! Never felt like we had to race up! That was a worry I had when I was reading reviews. PS some reviews talked about stopping for coffee on the ride? I’m not sure, but we never did. So take some snacks. There was a little place to buy food and snacks and drinks near top of the trail though and a lava store

Second time doing this tour and still a 10/10 experience.
Last year I did this tour by myself and I was blown away. I decided to come back to Guatemala again with my girlfriend and I kept telling her how I wanted to take her on this tour as it was one of my favorite parts of my trip. Although this was my second time doing the tour, it was equally as fun as last time and ended up being my girlfriend's favorite part of our trip. Elena is truly an amazing person and guide, and makes everyone feel welcome and like a friend. She is knowledgeable and takes you to many different places to learn different things and is constantly smiling while doing so. All of the places she takes you to has people who are also very knowledgeable and friendly. I can't recommend this tour enough. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my money and time. Any person I know that is taking a trip to Guatemala I will tell them that this tour is a must. Thank you for everything Elena.

      A great day!
Our family group of 3 joined with 4 others for an incredible day with Elena, our tour guide. The boat trip to 3 different cities was unique. Climbing the hills was a bit of a challenge...but I'm OLD! Elena brought us to restaurants for breakfast and lunch. Both were good. The demonstrations at the shops were well-done and interesting, and the merchandise featured good, even though I forgot to barter! It was an amazing, educational, and fun day. ( Our driver to/from Antigua was great, too!)

      Fantastic - highly recommend!
What a fun tour! Our bus driver was fantastic, and our tour guide was friendly, helpful and very informative. My husband, mom, and I took the tour with 4 other people. We would highly recommend (and if you get car sick or sea sick, don’t forget your Dramamine!)

Exploring the Beauty and Culture of Lake Atitlan
As someone with limited time, this small-group tour from Antigua was perfect for hitting all the highlights while diving deeper into the vibrant local culture. I really enjoyed the trip—it was packed with insightful information about the lake, the communities, and the Mayan culture that thrives there today. The tour guides were fantastic, sharing their knowledge and passion for the region. The water taxis were a bit rough at times, but the experience was definitely worth it. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the beauty of Lake Atitlan and its rich cultural heritage!

      Serre-chevalier
I went there by travel agency as travel agency is good and cost effective. It was from the Serre-chevalier. The guides and staff involved in the tourism package were friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating.

      Very well organised
Great experience. The shuttle was there on time, we arrived to the volcano after a short stop for us the coffee-lovers. After the trip to the volcano, we met the guide, Sergio. The guide was very kind, though I think a bit more of explanation about the place would be great. After the hike on the volcano, and marshmallow cooking, we came back to Antigua. They offered to leave us at the Central Park or other places we suggest. It was overall an amazing trip, a bit challenging at the beginning, and rewarding at the end.

The whole experience was just beautiful. Elena was the perfect guide with nice stories and if you want pictures, she knows all the right poses. Communication was on point and I met some incredible people on the tour.

      A great experience!
I enjoyed this tour very much. Pick up was on time but there was a long stop on the way for coffees etc that I wasn't expecting. Our guides were good, although they had limited English. Unfortunately our view from the highest point was very obscured by clouds on the day I went. Overall I would recommend this, the price is very reasonable.

      Great basic hike
This was a great, quick, moderate hike. The staff was attentive and monitored the hikers. I'm old but still was able to do it.

      Amazing, Not beginner friendly
Amazing views, tour guide was fun and he knew things about the mountains and the volcano. Only issue was the people trying to sell you horses along the way was a little annoying. Also note this is NOT beginner friendly hike you are climbing up the whole time on rocks. Also I felt bad for the horses lol but I’m a animal lover

Excellent tour of an incredible site. A privilege to hear and learn this history from a knowledge holder among the standing remains of the city of Iximche.

I can’t say enough about the personal service on this trip. I was picked up at my Spanish school within the timeframe indicated. The driver let me sit up front, and he chatted with me the entire way, so I got to practice my Spanish. And, the tour guide onsite was Mayan and therefore gave a lot of historical info I might not have received.

First let me say that the tour guide was excellent, the pick up was on time and as expected and this tour is a great way to wile away a couple of hours.

However on arrival to the site, as a foreigner (the others were a Guatemalan family), I had to pay an extra 50 quetzals to gain entrance. Nowhere was this mentioned in my booking confirmation. I had (obviously) assumed that the price of the tour included entrance to the main attraction. The tour also says it includes a complimentary bottle of water and a snack. This was nowhere to be seen.

Finally, whilst the Guatemalan family I was with were very lovely, only the mother spoke any English. So this required our guide to do the tour in a combination of both languages. Fortunately he was brilliant at doing that.

Hi Rebecca, we are so sorry for the inconvenience. Although we do have on the tour description what is included and what is not. It is clearly stated that drink and food is not included, and it also says that the entrance fee should be paid by the customer. Please check your ticket issued by trip advisor. If you require more assistance, please feel free to write us at info@cometoguatemala.com
