- FritzieAdventures0 contributionsNomè-- highlight of Casco Antiguo trip! This was one of our highlights from our trip! Our instructor was very knowledgeable. We had 2 couples and a 6 year old. It helped that he spoke great English for our group. We made chocolate bars and customized them with our toppings. He had us taste the chocolate and have a great interactive experience. We bought their passion fruit and pineapple infused chocolates after as well. I normally don't like fruit in my chocolate but theirs is amazing. 😊Written March 22, 2023

I have ordered several gift boxes from them and celebrated my daughter’s birthday with the chocolate experience @ Nomé. The chocolates are delicious with unique and special flavors of Panama and the artwork is gorgeous! Every time I give them as gifts, people comment how beautiful the chocolates are and how they are almost too pretty to eat! The staff is amazing and will go out of their way to make sure you get what you want! If you are in Panama, go check out Nomé! It’s a guaranteed win!Written December 4, 2021

Amazing class! If you are interested in chocolate - how it's made from bean to bar, what the various stages taste like - this is a perfect class for you. Friendly, professional instruction and lots of interesting experiences: learning about the process, lots of tasting, and some crafting (making your own chocolate bar).
The instructor (one of the chocolatiers who does this work every day) took us through all of the foundations: the pod, the whitish, gummy beans inside (and you get to taste this - it's a bit like a passionfruit), the roasting and cracking of the beans (tasting again - the whole bean and a cracked nib), then the processes to create the key ingredients in modern chocolate, and finally the process of making a chocolate bar (including tasting the pre-tempered and post-tempered chocolate, and of course the finished bar you poured and get to take home). We also got to taste a bonbon with a plantain "mousse" kind of filling (delicious).
We learned how to fill the mould, clear it off, add some ingredients (nuts, dried banana, etc.), Very friendly and professional, would be great for couples, small groups, and family (probably best for kids who can mind - making the bar especially requires a bit of motor skill and maturity, plus a bit of height since things are at kitchen-level).
Completely optional, but if you want, you can buy chocolate bars or various box-sizes of bonbons. For us, this was about US$8 for an 82% dark chocolate bar (the bar you make in the class is part of the class fee) and $24 for a box of 9 beautiful bonbons.
We're planning to repeat this on our next trip to Panama!

My wife and I visited Panama City as a last-minute get-away. While looking for interesting things to do during our brief visit, the opportunity to make chocolate definitely got my attention.
The class is scheduled for one hour at a local chocolate shop called Nome. This was an atypical adventure, but fun. Nome is a high-end chocolatier located just off the main square in Casco Viejo, the "Old Quarter" of Panama City.
Our tour was joined by about a dozen other chocolate lovers, to include two young sisters who visited with their mom (I don't think they were fans of unsweetened chocolate...)
We were welcomed by the owner, Eric, who conducted the class, which was essentially an introduction to the chocolate making process, although time does not permit visitors to go through the process start to finish. After washing our hands, Eric began by explaining the process, starting with the cocoa pods.
The class included all the steps in the chocolate making process with information on the importance of things like temperature as well as an explanation of how chocolate percentages work. The class was able to assist in a variety of ways, but primarily Q&A. At least, until near the end, when we went hands on to make our own chocolate bars.
Each group was provided with a mold with instructions on how to fill the mold, remove excess chocolate and tap the air bubbles out. We were also provided several ingredients that we could add to our bars (a variety of fruits and nuts as well as nibs, which I selected).
After finishing our bars, we were given champagne or water and engaged in some additional Q&A and shopping while our candy bars hardened. Most importantly, this portion included a sampling of different creations from dark chocolate to bonbons. I like the sea salt dark chocolate and the coffee ganache bonbon.
The candy bars are on the small side, but they are the size sold at this shop. It is clearly a quality over quantity equation at work here. The chocolate was exceptional. I think what impressed me most, though, was Eric's entrepreneurial spirit. I was impressed with his passion for chocolate and his desire to share that passion with others. This made for an interesting outing. Fun for kids of all ages.

This tour is a surprise to the senses and a delight to the soul! Lou was our guide to all things chocolate, and she was truly the gem of the show, which might sound like sacrilege to other chocolate lovers out there, but her joy, and sheer excitement, to bring us along on the chocolate journey left us full of happiness and not just chocolate!
Oh, and you get to taste several varieties from this small chocolate factory, make your very own chocolate bar, and so eat your heart out Willy Wonka! Enjoy the magic of chocolate making!!
LOU was a fabulous guide and hostess and we have recommended many people to enjoy this experience!

I took a visiting friend and three kids to the chocolate making class yesterday. Everyone had a great time. We felt very welcome and comfortable and the kids were so proud of their chocolate bars. Our instructor spoke excellent English and was able to answer very detailed questions about the chocolate making process. The chocolate was truly delicious.

I did the Panamanian chocolate making experience. It was great and I learned so much. I highly recommend people give this a shot, because you'll learn about true artisan chocolate. I also tasted some of their bon bons, which were amazing.

Update on my previous "No one cares review" I decided this tour had too many good reviews to allow one bad incident to change my mind about not having the experience!
The operator was sick and reached out to me late by that time I'd cancelled and gotten a full refund.
However I went to the Nome Chocolate site and sent a whats app message. I found out they were doing a tour on Sunday 20th October at 4:30.
I took a UBER from the hotel and showed up to meet that time.
My 11-year-old really wanted to have this experience and she did have it, an enjoyable one at the that!
This tour is a must do!!! We enjoyed the tour the presenter, the facility and the history of Chocolate making in Panama.
We made our own Chocolate and the atmosphere is comfortable. After the tour/presentation we shopped at a souvenir store at
Casco Viejo. The chocolate company is located there.
I give this tour 10 out of 10.
Loved, loved , loved it

Amazing activity. My wife and I felt it exceeded expectations. The class was engaging and we got to make our own chocolates as well as sample some of their more complex flavors. The hostess was knowledgeable, and it was clear she loves doing what she does and sharing her love for making chocolate. Would highly recommend as an activity that is unique, doesn't take a long time (~1hr) and it being conducted in their air conditioned shop is an added bonus in the afternoon heat!

It’s hard to find, next door to Luigi’s restaurant so put that in google map. Nome’ is a very small operation and small batch production. The chocolatier was patient & explained the entire process well. We each got to make a bar of chocolate and taste a few bon bons. We especially loved the passion fruit one! Yum. It was a fun way to spend an hour and learn about artisanal chocolate! Cheers!

Look at every single review! 5☆s!!! What does that say about Nomé? It is a must do activity in Panama. The staff, Luany and Alejandro, were great. The experience was unique. The price was reasonable ($25/person) and chocolate was delicious 😋. They are constantly trying new recipes and have different flavors daily. As all the reviews state you get to make and take your own chocolate bars home. You also get to sample a lot of chocolate, and you see how chocolate is made from farm to store. An incredible experience! Be sure to buy some bonbons to take home for friends, as they are unique to Panama.

Fantastic experience! Where you can learn chocolate is made, the varieties of chocolate, and taste some innovative creations that are to die for!
This is a one-on-one experience, and you get to create your own innovation. The chocolate tasting is fantastic, with champagne to rally bring out the flavors.
A must for chocoholics!
