About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- L9875TIgregl0 contributionsFantastic Bird Watching Tour.We organized a family bird watching tour on the Chagres River and Gatun Lake. Our family included two 80-year old,s one of which is in a wheel chair, and an active 10 year old, so I was a bit concerned about how smoothly things would go. I didn't need to be - the tour was excellent and the guides did a wonderful job of accommodating our needs! Everything was very well organized and communication was excellent. Our birding guide, Rafael, was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Our boat boat and van divers where also excellent and very friendly and helpful. We saw over 20 new species in addition to many of our favourites! We also saw 3 toed sloths, 3 species of monkeys, lots of iguanas (2 species) and a crocodile. The tour exceeded my expectations/hopes. Thank you Gonzo, Rafael and team for an excellent morning!Written March 5, 2025
- jgal12100 contributionsGonzo is a great tour guideFull disclosure. We were lucky to have Gonzo as our guide through a different tour company. We liked him so much, that I wanted to write a review for his company as well. Gonzo was fantastic for 2 full day tours with our group of 8. Throughout both days, Gonzo gave us a continual history lesson. We had a great time exploring the canal, the city and then Monkey Island and the indigenous community the next day. The kids (ages 12-18) in our group all liked Gonzo and he made a point to spend time with each of us each day. I hope this review will help Gonzo build his family business. He’s a natural tour guide and a lot of fun.Written February 23, 2025
- Resort206280590440 contributionsBirds galore!Enjoyed our trip with Gonzalo and Natalia. They brought a spotting scope and spotted lots of birds for us. We also saw several mammal species. It was great that we could get picked up at our hotel. Thanks!Written January 21, 2023

(Plz note that this review was resubmitted to correct a typo in Gonzo’s last name. No other changes).
Our tour was provided by Beautiful Tours Panama. Our tour guide was Gonzo Horna, also the owner. Simply put, he did a fantastic job. He picked us up at the hotel on time. His vehicle was very clean and had great air-conditioning. His written and verbal skills were exceptional and he responded very promptly to any and all questions via text prior to the tour. When we first met Gonzo, his English was so excellent that you would’ve thought he had relocated here from the States. However, he’s a native born Panamanian. Once we entered the van, he reviewed the day so as to manage expectations and give us a better understanding of the two UNESCO sites that we would be seeing. He has a pleasing personality and was very open to any and all discussions, suggestions and questions. We first visited Panama Viejo (located 8 miles ENE from downtown) the original site of Panama. While there, Gonzo enthralled us with his knowledge of the history of the origin of Panama City and its fateful encounter in 1671 with the pirate Captain Henry Morgan. From there, we travelled downtown to Casco Antiguo (a.k.a., Casco Viejo), the relocated location after 1671 for Panama City. Casco Antigua was full of restored buildings (with differing architectures), churches, artisans with their shops, and restaurants. Once again, Gonzo was full of information and made the locations come alive with his descriptions, including their histories. Simply put, Gonzo has our unreserved recommendation as a tour guide for Panama. He made the day fun and we came away with a much better appreciation for the city, its history and attractions.

The first thing that the guide Gonzo was punctual. He spoke clearly and with excitement in his voice throughout the tour. He appeared to be passionate about relating the history of Panamá. In sharing a few of his experiences, it added to this tour being so much more genuine, interesting and enjoyable. I will certainly recommend this tour and host without hesitation.

We were thankful that our operator was able to pick up from that far away as we were by the airport. Most other tours refuse to come all the way here.
The pick up was perfect as it came as the hour as agreed. Giving us some time to get breakfast with no issue.
We started with the historical town and the Casco viejo. Where he delivered an spiel about the town.
(he normally starts in the ruins of the first town, because of our starting location we did the opposite)
We wandered around the place, taking photos, etc. We also had time to purchase a few goodies there.
The next part was a drive by of the new town with its skycrapers before heading to the ruins.
Apart from the information from our guide, we arrived in time to get a full explanation from an expert of the historical center of the old ruins and a tour on the museum.
The good side of the private tour is that we could make pauses for pit stops.
We also had some hilarious time when my mother decided to make a question that baffled our guide but he recommended some books for more deeper information of the history of Panama. Which you can buy a few of them at the museum.

I can’t say enough great things about this tour and company. I was the only person who booked this day so it ended up being a private tour. Gonzo was super accommodating and really really knows his stuff when it comes to history, and he’s fun and engaging. I specifically booked this tour because it was only one of two tours that went to Panama Viejo, the original city ruins. I have been to Casco Viejo many times, but this was my first time taking an official tour. There were so many places I had previously walked by and I learned so many stories and so much more about the history. It was a great day! I will absolutely use Beautiful Tours Panama again when returning to Panama!

It was a great tour to visit Panama Viejo and Casco Viejo in a row and learn about their history in depth with a most professional tour guide Gonzo. All the places visited were very beautiful and charming. Gonzo, who speaks excellent English, introduced enthusiastically the history and stories of the two heritage sites. It was such a pleasure to stroll along the sites in a relaxing and enjoyable pace.

Our guide was Emma and our driver was Gonzalo. Both were extremely knowledgeable and gracious with good English skills. We had been on canal tours before and wanted instead a tour that focused on history and culture. This tour was very complete in that regard and provided an excellent background to ancient architecture, history and culture of Panama City. There is a lot of walking and the sidewalks are not the best but the pace was perfect for 5 guests in their 70's. We were lucky to be touring on a day that was overcast and breezy so the heat was not a problem. They took us to lunch at a place frequented by locals which we really enjoyed. Pick up and drop off were at our hotel.

Edwin picked us up on time and was very knowledgeable and engaging that the time just flew by. I felt like we got to experience parts of Panama City that I could never have found on my own.
I would definitely recommend Edwin and this tour. Thanks for making Panama City come alive.

There was a European style city here in 1519 almost 100 years before Jamestown and it was destroyed by an English pirate! That and other surprises on this interesting tour. The cultural component included a visit to museum to see molas (type of textile art), Gulan Yalla vendors at street market and delicious lunch at a traditional fonda (restaurant). My guide Emma customized the tour to my interests and requests.

We had a great time on this tour. Our guide was Andy and he was terrific. He was very chill and informative. I messed up and we went to the prescribed meeting place even though I had requested hotel pick up, which had Andy going to the business district, waiting around for us and then have to go through traffic again to meet us, but he was gracious, relaxed and cheerful. We went all through Casco Viejo, then through old Panama, which was super interesting. We learned a great deal about the old city and it was beautiful too. Then Andy took us to a wonderful place for lunch out in Amador and the meal and the views were outstanding. I would heartily recommend both the tour and Andy specifically.
