This is a very educational tour which we appreciated learning about the canal and seeing it first hand but it was entirely too crowed for us.
By the time we boarded the boat all the seat were taken and we stood in the back of the boat in the sun. It was standing room only at that point.
It became sweltering hot and very uncomfortable for us.
I would not do it again.

I recommend this tour for anyone interested in seeing the Panama Canal and staying in Panama City. The tour company was well organized, checking in several times by email before this trip to confirm everything, including the morning before to confirm the time we needed to be at the marina.
On the boat, the tour guide provided a lot of interesting information about the Canal but wasn't constantly talking and there was plenty of quiet time to enjoy the ride and mingle with other people on the boat. For all Canal tours from this company, they provide you with a healthy sized portion of coffee/breakfast and lunch, which I bring up because the timing of our trip was extremely early (we woke up at 3:45 AM to get there in time to start boarding the boat at 5).
The trip through the canal is a real treat. On the partial/northbound tour, you will get a chance to go through two sets of locks. I'd recommend that unless you're generally a completist, the partial tour should be sufficient for most people, as the experience of going through the locks is the same (I believe the full tour has you going through one more set of locks).
All in all, I recommend this tour and Panama Marine Adventures if you are interested in a tour of the Canal and staying in Panama City.

I have been through the canal three times before-on a cruise ship. I had 4 other friends who had never been at all. Going through the canal was a bucket list moment for them.
Efficiently run, informative. Right length of time. Turnkey tour!!
Is worth the time and money, if you want to see AND HEAR all about the Canal. As an aside go to the Canal Museum in Old town before this tour. It is a great Museum and misses nothing.

It was an interesting tour - bilingual Spanish/English - with lots of detailed information. We went through two of the locks and this was plenty to get the experience of going through the canal. Doing the full day tour would have been too long and would have gotten boring as the process is quite slow and is repetitive from lock to lock.

Great way to experience the canals in person. Well organized. Good communication from the tour company prior to the tour. Pick-up was on time, and the tour's commentary was comprehensive and informative. Highly recommend it for those interested in learning more about the canal and getting a close-up of how it all works.

This is a fantastic way to see the Panama Canal and understand the technology and logistics of getting massive ships from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico. If you really want to appreciate the Panama Canal, you need to see it from a boat. That said, there is a lot of time on the boat where not much is happening, and the boat doesn't offer much else to do. For a lot of people, they may get enough of an exposed to the Canal by taking an uber to the Miraflores Locks and watching boats from the observation deck.
They guide on the boat provide a lot of interesting information, but the PA system was not great and at times you had to strain to hear him.
The provided lunch was a bag lunch that was ok at best, and they kept making a point that we could not drink our own water and had to buy bottled water from them, which just seems cheap on their part.

This was a fantastic trip-well organized and well worth the time and money. From the pickup at my hotel to the drop-off some six hours later, the whole operation was very smooth and comfortable. Of course, seeing the canal, experiencing the working of the locks, seeing the huge ships navigating the canal. Being part of all that on the water, that was amazing. All the services were well-organized. Breakfast, lunch, bathrooms, drinks free and for sale, the quality of the narration and explanation of the operations and history, all of this was excellent.
Some recommendations: (1) It’s very hot in Panama. Go in the morning when the temperatures are mildest. (2) Bring a hat, umbrella, etc to shade you from the sun if you are going to spend a lot of time on the upper decks. (3) Decide what is a priority - seeing a lot or staying cool. This will determine what kind of seat you want to find (hot outside, cool inside) . (3) The forward deck is where you will see the most. There are benches there for you to sit but it is also where people congregate to take pictures. (4) Relax on the early part of the trip. The real pictures, the most interesting ones, Combe when you start to enter the locks. (5) Use sunscreen if you are spending a lot of time on the outside decks. Even in cloudy weather you will get sunburned. (6) Since the water around the canal is generally clam, there is little danger of getting seasick.
(7) Read David McCullogh’s book “The Path Between the Seas” to gain a better understanding of thre complexities and dangers of building the canal before you come. It will expand your experiences hugely.
This was a very memorable trip. The tour company did a great job of making the journey enjoyable, Five stars

My granddaughter lives in Panama City, she booked this tour for us. It was a very informative tour. The person nitrating the tour did a great job. This tour takes you about halfway through the canal and then buses you back. Water soft drinks and a box lunch was included. We had a great time.

Hi I’d like to book this and then stay at the Gamboa rainforest resort after. What time would we leave at, and when would we arrive? Is the Gamboa rainforest resort close to where we get off th Canal trip?
The tour operator will be the better source for times. I do recommend Gamboa. You wil not be disappointed and it is about an hour's drive from your disembarkation.

What time did you l leave? And when did you arrive at the partial transit point? I’d like to stay at the Gamboa rainforest resort after this tour, is it close? And I’m wondering when I would get there? Thanks.

Your departure time in the morning is very much dictated by the Canal schedulers who slot you in with a transiting vessel that will accommodate you being in the locks at the same time. Also, you will obviously have to be part of the Northbound traffic and this is also at the mercy of the schedulers.
In our case we were advised the night before our trip as to what time our pickup would be at the hotel. We were told it would be 5:30 and our driver arrived at 5:10. So timing is clearly quite fluid right up to the planned time of departure. Our boat eventually left the dock at 6 am and we arrived at Gamboa at about noon,

Hi, sorry I can’t tell you if they pick up there but you can check their website....Pacific Marine Adventures....and they give a list of hotels they pick up from. You also don’t have to be staying at the pick up hotels. If you are staying close to one you can walk there and be picked up. Pick up times are given when you book and they will also send you an email the day before for pick up time. If you email their contact info they are very quick to respond.. hope this helps

What time would we expect to be back at the Marina in the afternoon. We have a flight and need to plan appropriately to get to the airport.

SucoVe

We were back at the Marina at around 3.30pm. It depends on how long it takes to cross the canal locks and also on the traffic afterwards in the city.
