Rip off!!!
Absolute rip-off! I would never book this tour again! The tour took 4 hours instead of 7,5 hours and we spent one of them in a shopping mall to eat! We took the mini van to Gamboa and then we took the boat to monkey island. Actually we saw some of them, but we went on and on. Then we went to the village where we walked into the jungle. Did not see anything and after 20 minutes we were out again. Afterwards 20 minutes through the village and back to the car. Then we drove to a shopping mall to have lunch. It was now 12 o'clock. Afterwards everybody thought that we would go on but he drove us back to Panama. We went to the office to complain and were unfriendly dumped with a very unfriendly sms from the owner! This company is an absolute cheek! And way too expensive! Absolutely not to recommend! They said that you've seen it all, so it's worth the money. But honestly! In 2 hours you can see more in the forest than in 20 minutes!

Canal, monkeys, jungle, village- oh my!
Feb 2020 • Family
Great tour filled with lots of information. Gonzo our guide was great. He provided information and answered all questions. Riding in the canal was amazing! We spotted many monkeys and our visit to the village was eye opening. Bring bug spray- I left with many bites.

Great Nature Hike and Cultural experience
Feb 2020 • Couples
I’m giving 3 stars for the monkeys and 5 stars for the nature hike and cultural experience. The monkeys live on various islands on the lake, and on this tour you boat from island to island looking for them. When you find them, you hold out food in your hand and they jump on the boat to grab it. We only saw one of the 3 types of monkeys - white-faced monkeys, among a crowd of other boats all trying to do the same thing. I was later told that the tours that depart earlier have more success (ours left at 8:00 am).

The nature hike was great! Our guide, Nick, was extremely knowledgeable about plants and animals, and we learned a lot. Similarly, the visit to the native village was awesome! We were treated to a dance performance, and got to see how they lived. Very educational! This part is a must-see.

Gonzo was a great tour guide. Our visit to the Wounaan village was very interesting. We were able to see all three species of monkees.

Interesting and fun day
Jan 2020
Thank you Theresa for a fun day!

Theresa was so passionate, interesting, and shared her vast local knowledge with us. She has established a trusted friendship with the members of the Indian village which shows in the interaction and the sharing of stories.

Monkey Island was fun and it was lovely being out on the water.

The hotel pick-up and drop-off was appreciated.

Could have told us
Monkey island is interesting. However, they could have told us that we're in a boat the whole time. For some reason I thought we would walk around the island but we're in a boat the whole time hoping that monkeys come to the boat. The native village was educational. Gonzo is a knowledgeable guide but he should not smoke while giving a tour. That's very bad optici.

Gonzo, not the well known muppet character
Dec 2019
Our guide, Gonzo, from Barefoot Panama tours and more is everything a guide should be. Many times tours rely on the tour guide to make the tour worthwhile. Gonzo did an excellent job making this trip educational and fun. The captain of the boat portion of the tour worked well with Gonzo helping us have up close encounters with several species of monkeys and other wild life in the Gatun lake area.

The tour ends up in the Wounaan village where the 50 or so residence allow us to see how these artisans live a simple sustenance life where they create intricate pieces of jewelry, weaved bowls, and carved fauna motifs. While an opportunity is given to purchase these items from the crafts people who made them, with no pressure to do so. Gonzo's relationship with the people of the village is fun to watch. The experience is well worth the time to see it and in no way commercialized.

A day to remember
Dec 2018 • Friends
We got a very personalized tour. The guides were punctual on our pick up and were very informative about Panama history, the canal and overall Panama culture. We spent the day traveling through Gatun Lake first visiting monkey island where they come onboard and get upclise and personal. Three different species white faced, howlers and Tamarino. 0Then we got to visit a native Embero and Wounaan village which was impressive to see how they live and see in their traditional way of life. A real informative and event filled day. With exceptional guide.

Great way to see a lot in 6 hours!
Dec 2018 • Solo
I met my tour guide at a coffee shop (bonus I got good coffee and an empanada to start the day). We drove to a boat and took the boat through the canal to go see monkeys residing in trees along the river. Saw 3 species of monkeys. Then we went to a tribal village (FYI - first access to a bathroom) and learned about their culture and had a short guided jungle walk. Lunch was at a mall area that had lots of different food options. BUT lunch was late (2 pm). I would recommend bringing water and snacks with you! The tour ended back in the old city and I went to get a fresh microbrew. Perfect!
