We spent a day birding with Gerald and it was quite educational. He knows a great deal about birds, plants, trees, and nature. We went to two beautiful preserves near Managua, Reserva Privada Montibelli and Chocoyero-El Brujo Natural Reserve. Both were beautiful, peaceful places. His English is excellent, but he also helped us practice our Spanish. Not only did we see and learn about birds but also about the country in general. It is one of the safest countries in Central Ameria. Thanks for an amazing day, Gerald!

Amazing family vacation - boys were 5, 12 and 16. Gerald and Byron his driver were both fantastic through the whole tour. We felt safe and were always entertained. Gerald’s knowledge about the animals and places we visited made the trip so special and brought aspects we would have never known/found on our own. We did 4 nights 5 days in Granada and Ometepe with him after a week at playa Maderas on our own. Our trip to Nicaragua surpassed all our expectations. Gerald planned a 9 day personalized trip for us that provided all the types of experiences that we enjoy when we travel. Gerald arranged a Managua city tour with Oscar as my guide. It was an amazing day!!! I really got to know the true beauty and joy of Managua. Highlights included a local craft market, chocolate tasting, civic and natural sights, and delicious authentic local lunch. As a bonus, unasked, Oscar took lots of pix of me throughout the day, providing me with a record of the day I would not have otherwise been able to capture as a solo traveler. Oscar’s english is impeccable and I’m leaving the country with a new friend and deep appreciation for the city of Managua. We did a great day tour with Gerald based in Granada, including a city tour, isletas boat tour, and Masaya volcano. It was really enjoyable and we loved having such a knowledgeable and friendly guide. Where to begin! Booking Gerald was the best thing we did on this trip, and we’re so lucky to have found him. Gerald had an educated answer to ALL of our questions (and we had a ton) and was SUPER knowledgeable in every aspect of our trip. You can tell that he is very passionate about what he does and takes his job very seriously. He had everything planned for us and was willing to adapt to what we wanted to do. As soon as we mentioned we wanted to do/taste something, he instantly knew what to do and where to go. His connections are truly invaluable. We traveled to several cities in Nicaragua and he seemed to know everything and everyone, and got us hooked up with private tours and unique experiences. Things we would have never been able to do without him. Absolutely AMAZING stuff. I can’t stress enough how much different our trip would have been without him. This is the second time I have visited Nicaragua and the second time that I have used Geraldo Duran as our tour guide. The first experience was so wonderful that I told him I would be back. I absolutely love everything about Nicaragua and Geraldo. The country is so beautiful, interesting and safe its just a wonder that more tourists haven’t discovered this treasure in our “backyard”. But it is nice to visit a place that isn’t overrun with tourists. The country is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited (I’ve been traveling over 40 years and have visited more than 120 countries). The ocean is mostly untouched by development and they have 7 active volcanoes. The people are super friendly. I think most Americans believe it is a dangerous country but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, guns are outlawed here so it feels much safer than the US. We had a chance to visit Masaya, an active volcano as well as Granada, Lake Apoyo. But the highlights were the simple places Geraldo took us to so we could eat local food and visit traditional ceramic workshops. We traveled with 13 people including our 7 grandkids and they had a ball. The kids of course loved the beach and so we spent most of our time at Playa Iguana and it is a beautiful place. I didn’t get a chance to sandboard this time but maybe next time. I plan to go back this fall. Geraldo is a real environmentalist and so knowledgeable about nature so we really connected there. His English is flawless.

From all my travels, Gerald is truly the best tour guide I’ve ever had. He’s prompt, reliable, friendly, funny, down to earth, chill/ easy going, and is extremely knowledgeable. I learned so much and left with an understanding of Nicaraguan history and culture. He also knows where allll of the good local food is! We ate very well. Gerald goes at your pace and gives you so many options to choose from to tailor the trip to what you want to experience in the country. For our tour we did Granada, Lake Nicaragua, Volcan Masaya, Managua, the mud baths near Telica, the beach near Leon and Leon city center (in a little over 2 days. We packed it in as our flight was delayed, but it didn’t feel rushed). Nicaragua as a country is beautiful and extremely safe, despite what you read. We were 3 women traveling together and explored some on our own without our guide - in cities, nature and at night and never felt unsafe. The people are very friendly and it’s super affordable. I look forward to coming back, seeing more and hanging out with my new friend Gerald again!
