- laurabZ4084VE0 contributionsCan't recommend it enough! We are experienced trail hikers and I would rate this trail as moderate. Not a lot of inclines, but uneven/rocky path. We were fortunate it was dry. Wear good hiking shoes or boots with treads. A great intro to the mountains, you walk along a river path at the bottom of a gorge that opens up to a blue/green lake. The pictures are very accurate. Lovely lunch provided. Alex was a wonderful host and guide. He knows the area well and answered a lot of our questions about local history and culture. Pickup location is very easy to get to no matter where you are staying in the city as it is right beside the metro. Would 100% book future trips with OnAdventure!Written September 24, 2022

- LorenaE4410 contributionsGreat all the way :)Well, this Sunday we went on a hike Starling from Azuga towards Susai challet and back..where we enjoyed one beautiful walk, nice and warm tour guidance offered by Alex who is always thoughtful to every detail and always takes time to explain our itinerary, where we are, what we are seeing at the moment 😊 Enjoyed every moment of this hike and also, the chance of sun and good weather. The forest trees on our way and the views 🤩 Looking forward for the next one already☺️ Thanks a lot, Alex, good job 😎Written December 10, 2020
- 942alinae0 contributionsGreat autumn-winter mountain day hikeI was the first time with OnAdventure in a day hiking trip to Romania mountains. What I liked the most was the feeling that we are in a group of friends. The group was not big and that allowed us to interact with all the others. I liked the pace, the weather, the information note received before the trip, the emphasis of wearing a mask and using hand sanitizer. I've also did this kind of trips with others in the past, but this one was one of the best. Alex is a very relaxed guide and very responsive to our wishes/needs. You feel like you are with some friends on a trip and Alex is the friend that knows the way to go. Thank you for this awesome experience!Written December 8, 2020

Alex met me at 8 AM in front of the Grand Continental Hotel, offering coffee and a warm smile. I think he could sense my excitement for this trip - I was hoping it was going to be great, and it did not disappoint!
The day started with a drive into Bulgaria through Ruse, where we stopped in Veliko Tarnovo. We took a fantastic walk through town to the Tsarevets Fortress.
Side note here - I am not in the best of shape, and Alex was incredibly patient with me when I needed to stop to catch my breath, even though I was obviously slowing us down. It was hot, and we took our time, finding shade spots as we went. Alex provided great history narration on the entire walk.
From Veliko Tarovo, we took a drive into the woods toward Shipka Monument. I didn't really know what to expect, but was absolutely stunned at the beautiful views from this location. There were more people than I expected, but it didn't deter from the experience at all.
This is the point that I knew that I had made the perfect choice in picking this tour. Alex pulls out a huge cooler filled with fresh fruit, eggs, water, cookies and meatballs that his mom made, some bread, some cheese (that his mom also made), some Țuică (that his grandmother made!!), and a blanket. We had a lovely picnic, although it was quite hot out. The views were stunning, and this experience added a nice, unexpected touch to the whole tour. Alex's mom makes some GOOD cookies!
We then headed to the Buzludzha Monument. There's normally a bit of a hike to get up the hill, but Alex tried the back road, which (thankfully) was open, although in terrible shape. We made it to the top and it was everything I had expected. I would have loved to go inside, but it appeared to be incredibly unsafe, and there was a guard onsite.
This trip was an unforgettable experience for me. Buzludzha Monument was a bucket list item for me, and I'm now one of the few people who has ever been there. Alex was absolutely incredible - great conversation, great information, incredibly accommodating, and incredibly friendly.
Next time I'm in Romania, I'll be seeking Alex out for another trip! I'd recommend him and his company (OnAdventure.ro) to anyone. Thanks Alex!

I did this tour yesterday with our most awesome tour guide ever....Alex 👍!!!! It was way worth it. He takes you to the old town , Veliko Tărnovo, a UNESCO tentative list for world heritage site, then to the Shipka Monument and the Best part is the Buzludzha monument. An abandoned and the biggest unoccupied monument in Europe ( I hope I got it right this time Alex). It was a different experience. One of my best experience here on this trip. Alex made the drive bearable ( it was a long drive) but made it interesting. He is very engaging in the conversation. Such a pleasant person. One of my favorite is having a picnic at the Shipka monument where he laid a cloth on the grass and we ( the tour group) feast on home made food. My favorite is the apple pie made by his mom . I will do this again if I come back in Romania. I encourage tourists to do this awesome tour. Thanks for an awesome experience Alex and promise not to fall asleep and banging my head multiple times next time.

The itinerary for this tour was a great balance of site in northern Bulgaria ranging from an important historic city and fortress, a 19thC monument commemorating those who died during the Battle of Shipka Pass, to one of the most amazing Soviet era buildings I've ever seen.
Alex was the perfect host, very responsive to our needs, checking in to see how we were going, and the home-cooked lunch was delicious (thanks Alex's family!).
It was a long day, with lots of driving, but the conversation was interesting, transport was comfortable and safe, and there was plenty to see. I thoroughly recommend the day trip to Bulgaria, and hope to be able to join another OnAdventure tour soon.

Our guide and driver, Alex, was throughout the day just awesome. He was on time, very accommodating, patient, informative and entertaining. Be prepared to do some walking and check the weather: It was so hot today we almost melted but Alex knew his way around: we avoided crowds meaning more time with taking photos and enjoying the sights.
Another bonus is that he prepared local snacks for us which is just really awesome so we were energized before and after the walks.
The best part of the trip for me was visiting the Bazludhza Monument - he is the only one doing this sight so check him out! Be ready for the short and steep hike which is totally worth it. Literally breathtaking and a must see since this structure is hands down impressive.

I highly recommend this tour.
Alex from OnAdventure gave me a great tour from Bucharest into the mountains of Bulgaria. He was a safe driver, and I felt safe at all times. I was amazed by the grandeur of each of the sites (I had no idea there were such extraordinary locations in Bulgaria). Alex was very knowledgeable about each location. Also, it would have been impossible for me to find the monuments in the mountains without a guide!
The package is a great alternative to going north from Bucharest into Transylvania: go south into the Bulgarian mountains for a day!

Great trip. I've been in other adventures with Alex and they all were fun and had something new, different. Alex tries his best when it comes to organizing the trips.
This trip in particular was in one of the few places that people don't usually go because either don't know about the place or because it may bring back Communist memories. But it worth it. We've visited several "attractions", the most I liked the Buzludzha monument and it's mountain view. This is were we had our picknick - great pie, Alex ;)
You have to go and experience by yourself.

Alex clearly has a passion for travel, being a guide and adventuring around his own and nearby countries. It's fair to say this was the highlight of our trip. The weather conditions were rather difficult, particularly getting to Buzludzha Monument - Alex worked really hard though to ensure the itinerary was kept, even though it meant getting back to Bucharest quite late. The open air lunch/picnic was a nice touch, and even though it was a really long day with a massive amount of driving, Alex remained talkative and engaged up to the end. He got the perfect balance between giving us information and also allowing us to enjoy the views and taking photographs. The stops are really good - bit on the alternative side and off the beaten track, but that's what makes it so good. It is refreshing to come across a guide who has followed his passion. Was really nice to meet you Alex and I can recommend this tour highly.
