We had a last-minute free evening in Bucharest and our travel agent was able to get us booked with Ioan.

Ioan guided us on a walking tour of Old Town and we ended our night at a lovely wine bar. This was our first full day in Bucharest and we're headed off on a river cruise in another 2 days, but this was the perfect way to start our trip.

Adrian on Ioan's team was great in communicating with our travel agent and he said he would recommend working with the team at The Fixers as they were great in communicating and getting this set up so quickly. I only wish we had more time to do another tour.

I always do plenty of research online before my trips to ensure I am getting the experiences I want on my holiday and at the best prices available. This trip to Romania had to feature not just Bucharest, but some trips to the Zarnesti Bear Sanctuary, Bran Castle and the Unirea Saltmine. I read some reviews for various options to do these and then settled on 'The Fixers' because it seemed to offer excellent flexibility in trip planning and the website also contained detailed information and a price list, which is always welcome.

I emailed Adrian and got instant replies and was able to confirm the dates, times, itineraries and total cost with just a couple of messages. This meant that planning the trip was a breeze and there was nothing that was going to be left to chance.

As agreed, Adrian was outside our apartment each of the three days we had booked, bang on the dot of the agreed time. His knowledge of Romania is such that if there is something he doesn't know, it is probably not worth knowing anyway. He was able to guide us through the city on day #1 giving us a historical understanding of the things we were seeing. We had a comprehensive tour and he was happy to drop us off anywhere we wanted. It was a great first day and really set us up for the afternoon and the next day to explore on our own.

A couple of days later we had booked a trip to the salt mine, a winery and the muddy volcanoes. We were given the option of setting off at 0700 and having a lunch stop, or 0800 and not. We picked 0700 and headed off while it was still dark. Adrian was able to talk us through the places we were driving to/through and near and answer my MANY questions, especially about the Ceausescu years. The Salt mine was virtually empty when we were down there and he brought the place to life with his descriptions. We stopped for a great lunch in an old 'communist' style restaurant in Mizil. Very hearty fare and very cheap. Perfect for such a cold day. The winery tour was excellent and the tastings were very generous. We left with a bottle of our favourite.

The last stop of the day was the muddy volcanoes - a bizarre set of oozing muddy pools powered by escaping gas. It was VERY cold and we were again the only ones there, which is just the way I like it! Adrian explained all about them, but this was a quick stop as the light was beginning to fade and we had a long drive back. The adventure continued on our return to Bucharest as a huge demonstration had shut down the city centre. Adrian tried various detours to get us back to the apartment, but the police had blocked all routes. He had a quick word with one policeman and we were let through the cordon so he could let us out and direct us back to our street, even though he wasn't allowed to drive there.

The last tour was my favourite - the bear sanctuary and Bran Castle. The weather was very foggy as we left Bucharest, but brightened up considerably en route. As he had done on a few occasions Adrian called ahead to ensure that the roads were passable and we made good time, so he suggested a detour to see Peles Castle and a monastery en route. This was a great and unexpected addition to our tour.

The drive through the mountains took in some stunning scenery and Adrian explained various historical issues about Romania that were linked to the places we were passing. The Bear Sanctuary was everything we'd hoped it would be and I thoroughly recommend adding it to your itinerary if you're going to in the area. Adrian took us for a simple lunch at a nearby restaurant, before guiding us round Bran Castle and explaining the history of the place and interesting stories about the inhabitants, not least the 'myths' surrounding Dracula/Vlad the Impaler. I learnt a lot!

All in all we had an excellent time. We found Adrian to be extremely polite and thoughtful - for example he will always see you into the car and shut the door - little things like that. I particularly liked how he was punctual and also gave us clear ideas of how far places were, how long drives would take and what our various options were. He was always willing to stop for coffee/comfort breaks and would always ensure that we were able to get answers to any questions at any restaurants/shops etc by translating for us. He also knew ALL the best places to get great photos of the things we were seeing, which, while seeming small, does make things a lot easier!

The trips we took were very enjoyable and hiring The Fixers/Adrian was the main reason. I have no hesitation in suggesting you contact him if you are in the market for similar trips, it will be money well spent.

My friends and I had a few days to explore Romania for the first time and had no idea what sights would be perfect for us. With several email exchanges before our tour date, Adrian suggested several day tours "The Fixers" had to offer. He explained each day tour clearly and what they entailed. On our first day, we chose to do the half-day tour of Bucharest after Adrian picked us up from the airport at around noontime. After we checked-in, we had lunch at the famous bar/restaurant, Caru cu Bere then visited the Palace of the Parliament, the Village Museum and had coffee at the vibrant Old Town. We also did the day-tour of Transylvania where we visited the romantic Peles Castle and Bran Castle, also known as Dracula's Castle. The drive to the castles along the mountains was breathtaking! The combined day-tour of Lacerta Winery (state-of-the-art wine making facility and wine tasting), the Unirea Salt Mine and the Berca Mud Volcanoes would be the surprise day-tour for our group. It felt like being on another planet the entire day! On our last day, we drove across the Danube River to Bulgaria for the day!

All in all, we had the best time in Romania (and Bulgaria) with Adrian! He was very professional, informative, knowledgeable, friendly and very easy to have around. He speaks fluent English and had endless ideas for our group. It was obvious how much he loves his country and how much pride and joy it was for him to show his guests the treasures his country holds. We made several requests and unplanned stops along the way, from taking photos of sunsets and fields of sunflowers, buying fresh cherries from Romani Gypsies along the highway, to grocery stops to buy toiletries and food for our breakfasts and dinners. Adrian happily obliged with all our requests.

"The Fixers" day-tours were price friendly, accurate with what Adrian explained in his emails beforehand and there were no problems the entire time we spent in Romania. Adrian Rusu is undoubtedly Romania's secret Ambassador! We had so much fun that we are now planning on returning with our families next year!

I decided to book Adrian due to the excellent reviews on here. Sometimes I'm a bit dubious about trip advisor when you see a review written by a traveller who has only reviewed one place, yet says they have travelled to many countries - where's your other reviews then?! but The Fixer has earned his good reputation 100% :)

Adrian replied promptly to my emails, and made suggestions about the day - even offering to pick us up at 7am instead of 8am! We settled on 7.30am, and he said to check that our hotel served breakfast early so that we wouldn't have to worry about stopping for breakfast.

Adrian is very knowledgable about the history and sites in Romania - the good and the bad! He happily answered our questions, and told us about his life. He said that Romanians are very friendly, and we certainly agree as our 5 days in Bucharest went by with meeting lots of happy, talkative locals.

He was very patient and allowed us time to walk around the castles after the guided tour (at the castle, Adrian waits in his car but recommends where to walk around the gardens to take nice photos). Peles Castle you have to pay to enter and receive a tour by a guide there- choose from a 45 minute 1 floor tour, or a 90 minute 2 floors tour.

The monastry was interesting, Adrian showed us around and we even saw some of the 12 monks that still live there. We got to visit the small church within the grounds too.

At Bran Castle, you are free to walk around on your own, allow 80 minutes if you also wish to view the torture rooms.

Adrian knew good places to stop to take amazing photographs and offered to take photos of me and my boyfriend. He recommended a restaurant to eat at, whch was a pleasant, traditional Romanian. Handy if you haven't thought to pack a lunch box!

We spent 12.5 hours with hm, admittedly me and my boyfriend did have a nap in the car on the way back as we were shattered. The day involves a lot of walking if you want to see both castles and Brasov, but it's really worth it. We went up the Black Tower in Brasov and got some wonderful photos.

Adrian really knows his history, and we learnt a lot from him. He is very thoughtful, and asked us if we were too hot/cold in the car, hungry, how long was left til the next stop, opened and closed doors for us etc. Items can be left in his car when visiting the attractions.

Highly recommended, and we would definitely use him again if we were to visit Romanaia (the volcanic mud and Salt Mines tour).

Some tours are very expensive, but we found The Fixer to be a reasonable price. For 12.5 hours of his time and knowledge, the fuel cost it was a lovely day. We had to pay extra for the parking and entrance fees, but this was only another £12-£15, which you'd have to pay if you were going by yourself.

I would say if you were going to indulge yourself on a trip to Romania then book a private tour as it is much less hassle than doing it by train/bus/walkng, and you get to see so much more. The extra knowledge you learn from your guide is invaluable!

One tip: bring sensible boots/shoes with good grips so that you don't slip in the snow!

We had Adrian as our tour guide and driver and he was excellent. He was informative, funny and friendly.
He took us to Peles Castle, Premjer Fortress, Sinai Monastery and The Town of Brasov in one day.
Another trip was to the Salt Mines in Prahova, luckily he suggested an early pick up as when we came back up from the mine there was such a long queue . Then went on to a lovely winery called Lacereta and had tastings and nibbles. We had to pay extra but worth it. Then on to the mud volcanoes. Another long day but worth it.
Adrian was great at lunch and toilet breaks and stopped at various places for a photo pic.
We traveled with another couple and we all had many laughs along the way.
Would definitely recommend Adrian and The Fixers when in Bucharest and he will have plenty to suggest.

We did a couple of day tours with Adrian when we were in Bucharest in June. Prior to arriving in Romania he answered all my email questions promptly so our group of four were confident of travelling with him.
So glad he insisted we leave Bucharest early when visiting the Slanic Prahova Salt Mines as when we came out of the mines there was a queue as far as the eye could see. After that fabulous visit we continued on to Lacereta Winery which was beautifully done with lots of tasting and nibbles (at our expense). Lovely wine though and we bought a few bottles to keep us going for a couple of nights.
The other great day was to Peles Castle, Sinaia Monastery, Premjer Fortress and Brasov Old City Centre. All terrific sites,
Adrian was a great driver, guide and companion. As well as being informative we had lots of laughs and would definitely recommend The Fixers to anybody who plans a visit to Romania with limited time and wishes to see more than the lovely city of Bucharest.

I was so thrilled that Adrian could offer me what I was looking for as a solo traveler seeking a day trip from Bucharest. We drove up to Sinaia and toured Peles Castle (I recommend the first floor tour) and also walked around the old and newer monastery. Having been to Bucharest before, I was so glad I took the time to venture outside of the city with someone so knowledgeable and so friendly. This trip made me want to keep traveling- and with Adrian! It was a the perfect adventure showing me some more of the beauty and culture of this special country.

Adrian and his fellow fixers are the consummate tour guides! I cannot fault their service in any way. Great value, easy and fast communication, excellent English, and extremely knowledgeable about the historical, natural and cultural aspects of Romania. I learned so much about the rich history of this country and also about the places we visited such as the salt mines, old churches, palaces, and government buildings.

Romania is a beautiful country with so much variation in landscape, culture and cuisine that you could tour for months and still be fascinated by new discoveries. Adrian was very flexible changing our tour itinerary to add the salt mines instead of Bran Castle as that suited us better. That way we got the best of the castles as well as the salt mine in one day. He also custom made an afternoon/evening city tour of Bucharest as we only had a short time in the city to see as much as we could. His impeccable service went so far as to pre book a table for us at a very popular restaurant that evening that we would have missed out on had he not had the forsight to do so.

On a personal note, Adrian is very interesting to talk to and has many funny stories about his colourful past experiences and his somewhat unconventional views on the world. Thoroughly enjoyed hearing his personal take on things and opening my mind to new ideas. Would definitely book with The Fixers again if I'm ever back in Romaina! Thanks guys.

I highly recommend Adrian and the Fixers. I did 2 of the day tours and had a great experience. Adrian will also do custom tours so if there is something special or different you would like to do, don't feel you have to stick to the proposed itinerary. I was traveling in Romania after a business trip and wanted to see the area outside of Bucharest. I did the Castles Tour (Peleș Castle, Braun Castle and the town of Brașov) and the Salt Mines, Winery and Volcanoes Tour. If you only have time for 1 tour, I would recommend the Castles Tour. I think the Winery/Salt Mines tour is good if you are looking for additional things to do.

Peleș Castle was amazing and fun to see the contrast to Bran Castle which is more of a fortress. The Medieval town of Brașov is well worth visiting. Really cute, fresh air, lots of cafes and fun to walk around the old part of town. On the 2nd tour, the first stop was the Salt Mines. Its one of the most surreal places I've been. It's hard to describe but impressive. The winery visit involved a tour, tasting and friendly chat with the staff. I liked that it was a more personal or intimate experience than you would get from a big winery tour.

Adrian also does tours of Bucharest, which I'd like to try if I return to Bucharest. Overall I found Adrian to be a very knowledgeable and thoughtful guide who goes out of his way to make sure his clients are having a good time.

We booked two day tours and airport transfers. A very busy day to Transylvania but managed to see Peles, Bran and Brasov. Very well organised and although a rushed itinerary this is ideal if you have limited time in Bucharest and want to see a bit more of the country. We had Christi as a guide and he gave us options about where we would like to take lunch the sort of flexibility that you cannot achieve on a group tour.
The day trip to Bulgaria was also enjoyable with the highlight being Veliko Tarnovo a beautiful town. Downside is the lengthy wait at the border but clearly nothing the tour company can do about this. Christi was informative and attentive.
Airport transfers were handled by other drivers but once again on time and efficient.
