The ‘classic Romania’ trip organized by Rolandia tours was very well organized: excellent hotel choices, comfortable car, knowledgeable, professional and friendly driver/guide. Although the weather was not always on our side we still had a memorable trip with lots of highlights, interesting facts and encounters and many lovely memories to share with Alex - our young and pleasant companion.
I’d add the painted churches of Bukovina as an option to the itinerary.

This was our very first time visiting Romania. My husband and I are from the United States and we only speak English so this trip was definitely out of our comfort zone.

We first booked our tour for September 2020. We found the perfect tour, it was incredibly easy to book and the price was amazing. I studied the itinerary and it had everything we wanted to do. Between the summer of 2020 and our actual tour in August 2021 we had to reschedule twice due to Covid-19 and travel restrictions. Rescheduling was made so easy and we never had to pay more to reschedule. Everytime I had questions or concerns about traveling to Romania from the United States my emails were answered within 24 hours.

We were provided with transportation to and from the airport. This was a pleasant surprise since we arrived four days before the tour and left five days after the tour ended. The hotels we stayed at were perfect. They were very nice hotels with large comfortable rooms. We even changed our hotel in Bucharest for our last five nights to the hotel we stayed at on the first day of our tour. That's how much we loved it.

The places we visited on the tour and the activities that were planned were even more amazing that i could have ever imagined. It was the small details that made our trip to Romania so memorable. I have so many magical memories from our tour but these are my top 5:

The amazing dinner we had to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary. We had a table under the stars where we experienced a little bit of rain (the only rain we had in 15 days) for luck on our marriage and they had a band come in and play. The music and songs were so beautiful. We saw a traditional dance and my husband and I were asked to join. Between the delicious food and drinks, music and dancing, and the great company it will be a night I will never forget.

Going to the Turda Salt Mine was an experience like none other. The first time you see it will leave you breathless. We walked down into the main area where they have different things you can do. Then we walked down even further below to see the lake at the bottom of the salt mine. You can even rent a boat to take out on the lake. We rode the Ferris wheel and it was the perfect way to see all of the salt mine.

The different churches and monasteries we were able to visit were so full of history and beauty. They really show off the history of religion throughout the country. The art and décor is absolutely stunning.

Peles Castle was by far my favorite. It is absolutely breathtaking. It is so beautiful and it is still fully furnished. You are able to tour the castle and really imagine what it would have been like to live there. You could spend all day wandering from room to room just looking at everything. The outside of the castle is just as stunning.

The tour of Bucharest was so informative. We were shown so many important locations throughout the city and learned so much about Romania's history. We got to take a walking tour where more of Romania's history was explained to us. The tour did a great job setting the tone for the rest of our tour.

I can't say enough good things about this tour. We learned Romania's history, we met the most amazing people and created memories that will last a lifetime. After this trip Romania will always hold a special place in my heart.

Florin was our tour guide. I don't think there is a word that can truly describe how amazing he is. I like to think of him as the Dream Maker because he makes dreams come true.

He is so knowledgeable, pretty sure he knows everything, and will always answer your questions. He is so passionate about what he does and it shines through him. Florin was always willing to share what he knows with us.

Florin always had great stories about the places we went and things we saw. He made taking in all of the information interesting and fun. Every single day I always had a huge smile on my face because he made sure we were always having fun. There was never a dull moment and he made us feel very comfortable the whole time.

I told Florin I had always wanted to see a brown bear in the Carpathian Mountains and we saw 2! Florin made it possible for me to watch a cow be milked and her newborn calf fed. He took us to a blacksmith where he was able to speak to the blacksmith to have a special item made for me that I had told Florin I really wanted. I will never forget the 'Penguin House' or the great stories on 'the Bridge of Lies'. He told us about Electric Castle and we were able to experience that concert for free.

I could write a book on our trip and all of the information that we learned. Rolandia and Florin made my dream trip come true. Anyone who has the pleasure of taking this tour and hitting the jackpot getting Florin as a tour guide you will not be disappointed and your dreams will come true.

The Classic Romania tour that I joined in June 2019 was one of the best travelling experiences I've had. There was a group of 8 who, together with Claudia (who was just the best guide imaginable), laughed and drank our way through Romanian towns and villages and forests for 8 wonderful, sunny days. Perhaps we were lucky that we were all so relaxed and well suited; perhaps it was that Claudia was such a knowledgeable and outgoing guide; perhaps Romania is just such a beautiful place; perhaps the accommodation was so well chosen and the food so good; perhaps it was all of those things and more. I recommend this tour without reservation. I'd do it again.

Five of us were looking to do a pre-cruise tour of Romania. After searching the internet, I took a chance on Rolandia Travel and made an inquiry. I received an immediate response from Ioana with answers to our questions. Over the next few weeks, she continued to provide information and instill confidence to book the Classic Romania tour. Throughout the process Ioana was very responsive, friendly, and professional but most of all she ensured that our needs were met.

We asked that Val be our tour guide and were very pleased that he could accommodate us. We found Val to be very knowledgeable, informative, professional, and extremely helpful. If you truly want to see Romania this is the guide for you. He kept to the schedule and made sure we didn't miss a thing. He also brought us to the unexpected. We viewed honor guards with exploding cannons, experienced special tastes at local markets and saw an operational still producing the local palinka.

Please note that some of the drives and the days are long but well worth the effort. We enjoyed stunning views along the Transfagarasan highway and of the beautiful Romanian country side. If you would prefer a more leisurely pace I would add an extra night along the way. We selected four star accommodations and overall they were very good. We found the food to be plentiful and delicious but a bit heavy. I believe we won the lottery with Rolandia as the Classic Romania tour was an exceptional experience and value.

In a nutshell ROLANDIA is THE BEST - liaise with Ioana and insist on VAL. Do this before everyone else finds out! Went on a private tour with four close friends following the itinerary of the The Classic Tour. Requested upgraded hotels. Everything and much more delivered. Looked after very well and have had one of the best holidays ever; was really sad saying goodbye to VAL. Every day a memory and Val tried to help us all the time eg we needed a trip to the supermarket one evening so he came with us and helped us translate, etc. This is an arduous trip as described, but Rolandia will accommodate changes as requested - ie just tell Ioana you need a slower pace or want to concentrate on certain things and she’ll sort in your itinerary before finalised. I’d recommend a couple of days in one spot near the beginning and near the end tailored to the kind of place you like. Romania is fascinating, interesting, safe and comfortable with Rolandia. They’ll deliver.

We had a wonderful time in Romania. Even before our trip Ioana assisted us every step of the way from the initial booking and answered all our queries promptly big and small right to the end. Our group included my husband and I together with a family of 3 from USA. Our guide Cristi is very knowledgeable about the history of all the places we visited. He took care of our various needs and introduced us to the cuisines of the different regions of Romania. He showed us little secret places which big tour companies are not likely to bring us. Romania is a beautiful country well worth your time. Thank you very much to Ioana and Cristi for your wonderful Romanian hospitality!

We chose Rolandia for our Romanian holiday due to the excellent reports we had read on the internet. We were not disappointed as the Classic Romania Tour that we selected to do was outstanding. The accommodation provided on the tour was excellent. Well selected location wise, clean, comfortable and mostly in well renovated charming small hotels. The tour highlights were plentiful, interesting and variable. The tour was well paced with a mixture of scenery and history providing a constant source of delight. The transport provided for the tour and for our transport between airport and hotels was excellent as well. Our guide was fantastic. So experienced and knowledgeable, interesting, amusing and accommodating. He seemed to know everyone we met and they all loved him. And in the end we loved him as well and now count him as a good friend whom we hope to see again one day soon. Also a big thank you to Rolandia’s Ioana providing prompt and constant feedback to us when we were organizing our holiday and doing so in such a nice friendly manner. Romania has the history, scenery and amazing buildings to match the rest of Europe but without the crowds and at a fraction of the cost. In short we loved Romania and highly recommend a visit. You will not be disappointed. Rob and Joy, Perth, Western Australia.

A very thoughtfully curated journey through Transylvania and the Carpathian Mountains, linking the history and culture of Romania through different eras. We visited such a diverse spectrum of towns including small villages to cosmapolitan cities, including Cluj and Brasov. We were invited into people's houses to sample the local flavours and regional cuisine and learned a lot about how the location of the country makes it a crossroads for many different cultures, histories, cuisines, histories, and perspectives. We came home with a greater appreciation of Romania and we were delighted to be given an insiders perspective.

Our guide Cristian was a fantastic host. Cristian was a great driver and had a comfortable car. He was also very passionate about Romania, its history and its culture. He took a lot of time to answer questions from us, as well as provide anecdotes; including the socio-political context of historical events to modern tastes and fashions of the local communities. He was able to explain the historical relevance of the figures represented in statues and cathedral murals, from the Roman times to modern day.

The hotels we stayed at were decent, modern and clean. Although, our favourite was one with a more traditional flavor, The Gradina Morii, a Bavarian style Inn, situated by a lovely river and park with a wonderful garden restaurant. All the hotels had a wide variety of food and many vegetarian options.

Please note that if you are vegetarian, let Rolandia travel know ahead oif time and they will accomidate you. We did not have to miss the cuisine at any of the dinners with locals, or the traditional folklore show.

Thanks to Viator and Rolandia travel we felt safe and taken care of during our whole travel experience in Romania. We can't wait to go back!
