What to expect
Meet a guide at your centrally-located hotel in Zagreb, or at Zrinjevac Park, then make the 54-mile (87-km) trip to Varazdin in a climate-controlled vehicle. As you travel to Varazdin, the guide will share an overview of the city’s fascinating history, with fun stories about Croatian life and culture. Upon arrival, a local guide in Varazdin will join your group for a walking tour, including the Varazdin Cemetery, where gorgeous tombstones and quiet paths are overshadowed by tall, leafy trees. Follow back streets to architectural gems, and find some of the city's elegant villas—at one time, Varazdin was Croatia's wealthiest city. Next, continue to Trakoscan Castle, 25 miles (40 km.) west of Varazdin, with a fairytale setting high on a hill. Walk the fortifications with views down to a forested valley, and get a glimpse of Croatia’s tumultuous past in the castle’s displays of weapons and armor. After exploring the castle, walk to the nearby lake, then meet back up with the driver/guide for the return trip to Zagreb.

Sep 2019 • Solo
Maja was a fantastic guide! I had arranged for a small group tour but it turned out to be solo. I appreciated that they didn’t cancel the tour since no one else signed up. Maja was very knowledgeable, communicated well, and adapted to meet my interests. The amount of activities and the time allotted was perfect! I highly recommend this tour!

A tour not to be missed when visiting Croatia.
Jul 2019 • Couples
There were several very interesting stops along the way to Trakoscan Castle including the charming village of Varazdin. The highlight of the trip, of course, was Trakoscan Castle. The Castle, grounds and collection are fabulous. Thanks to our very engaging and knowledgeable tour guide we were able to enjoy learning about how the castle was used and defended over several centuries and how its wealthy owners, feudal serfs and soldiers lived. Because many of the museums we visited in Croatia did not have translated exhibits or audio guides, we could not have been happier with our tour guide, Karlo. His English and depth of knowledge was key to how much we truly enjoyed our day trip. Thank you!

A wonderful tour discovering an area of Croatia that is a bit off the beaten path for most tourists.
Jul 2019 • Friends
Our tour guide Luka picked us up promptly at the designated pick up point in a very comfortable van. There were only two of us for this tour so we had Luka all to ourselves. He was very informative and answered all of our many questions. We spent part of the day wandering the town of Varazdin and the rest visiting the fabulous Trakoscan castle. We also had plenty of time to wander on our own...the castle grounds were particularly stunning! The entire experience was first class and Luka went above and beyond. During our free time in Varazdin as we were having a lovely lunch at the restaurant he had recommended, Luka returned to find us to bring us umbrellas as it had started to rain!

Superb
Our tour guide Goran was exceptionally well versed in the history of Croatia and the area covered by the tour. His clear simplified delivery of the tumultuous history clarified many questions I had and really put everything into a rational context of the evolution of Croatia. Visiting Varazdin and Trakoscan were absolutely worth the time and money. Our party of 4 was joined by two other gentlemen and the small group made the experience personal and actually quite fun.

Well organised and worthwhile tour
Apr 2019 • Couples
This tour is very well organised and an excellent introduction into a whole region of continental Croatia. Goran provides a lot of historical context and background which was among the most comprehensive that I heard from various tour guides throughout Croatia. Having a small group (about 5 people) meant that we could learn and interact with the guide easily as we went. The sights themselves are perhaps not among the most beautiful within the riches of Croatia but still have a certain charm and beauty.

What a great day!
Apr 2019 • Couples
This was our second day in Zagreb and we got lost. Luckily we managed to get to our meeting place just in time. Goran was our tour operator for the day. We were so lucky to be the only two on the tour for the day. Goran is virtually a walking History lesson. What he didn’t know could be written on a postage stamp. He is also very passionate about his Country and this shows in his attitude. Goran also gave us a personal tour of the Castle which was also very informative. We had a fantastic day and would heartily recommend this tour for anyone. Thank you Goran!

Splendid day tour of North Croatia
Jun 2018 • Couples
To begin with, first, I highly recommend Goran, who not only showed us around, but explained us the entire history of Croatia within a few hours. Tremendous knowledge for one's country is a rare thing these days, be it current affairs, history, sports, foreign affairs, places, restaurants to visit, you name it and he has an answer for you. Such intensive information, in a day, quite a learning experience on this tour.

The tour felt very personalized as we were 5 of us only, it went very smoothly and at a relaxed pace, no hurrying up or rushing to places.

Varazdin, i can now say, is one of my favorite town, in the world. Very quaint, with only 40,000 people, it has an air of nobility that is unmatched anywhere in Croatia.

Trakoscan Castle, high up in the mountain, from where you can see the far reaches of the forest and the beautiful area around.

I wish i could spend more time in Northern Croatia exploring the beauty of this land. Hopeful to come back again to explore some more.
