About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- JBone19850 contributionsGo and support this exhibitThis is a small, independently run exhibit about a very powerful, real story. In only a matter of weeks a community came together to dig a tunnel to the airport to allow aid in to Sarajevo. Really glad we visited. Well worth your time. It’s difficult to get to without a car or a tour but we managed it. We just walked from our hotel near the airport as we were staying there for one night before flying home. Took about 45 mins and was pleasant. Go give this project some money. The family who owned the house at the time gave it up so this monument could be preserved and the incredible feat could be honoured. When you come to fly out of Sarajevo, you can see the house from the runway.Written March 10, 2025
- W171PGmichaelm0 contributionsWonderful, Comprehensive Tour of SarajevoWe were fortunate to do this tour with the immensely erudite Adnan. Sarajevo is a city best experienced by walking and we covered the city’s history from the Ottomans to the Habsburgs and the siege of the 1990s. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting - we did it on our first day and it was very helpful for orienting ourselves.Written February 23, 2025

- Go481441672140 contributionsAmazing tour, local guide with incredible knowledge, highly recommendedI took the Franz Ferdinand walking tour. I was lucky to be in a small group guided by Ado. Ado took me around the stops important to the final day of the Archduke, and while in between stops he sprinkled in knowledge of other aspects of Sarajevan history relevant to understanding the significance of the events of 1914. Ado started out slow and built my understanding up from there. I felt I left with a new found understanding of the events of that day in 1914, the reasons they culminated the way they did, and their lasting effect as far as the conflicts of the late 1900s. Ado took his time to explain everything and astounded by his knowledge, I asked many many questions. Ado was prepared in every regard to answer anything I could think of. Highly recommend this tour group and particularly the guide, Ado. Thank you for making a wonderful and informative experience!Written November 16, 2024
- E589TAjanetf0 contributionsFabulous day trip with and excellent guide.Following an excellent free guided tour around the city with Spirit we decided to book this trip with them. We were not disappointed. We ended up with just the two of us and Emir our guide who was amiable and knowledgeable. He was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with. The trip was amazing. We loved Travnik and the Mosque and Fortress . He clearly knew a lot about the history and was very interesting. It was extremely scenic and a highlight was the beautiful Pliva Lakes and the Water Mills. We loved Jayce and got to see the Catacombs and the trip was topped off by the beautiful waterfalls just outside the city. It was a fabulous day full of beauty and culture and we felt very spoiled to have the tour to ourselves. He even stopped off at the side of the road to allow us to take photos and picked us apples from a tree. Thank you Spirit Tours and Emir it was a truly memorable day!Written October 11, 2024
- ToniT10790 contributionsTunnel of Hope for BosniansThis museum is a tribute to the Bosnians who built a tunnel during the conflict with Serbians in 1990s. The actual tunnel that carried people from one side of town to the other is being refurbished so a simulated tunnel offered us the real experience of traveling through the tunnel. The other exhibits show weapons, office items, and photos of the conflict.Written September 29, 2024
- 937spelab0 contributions100% recommendedGreat trip despite the weather! Helpful organisation staff, who were very responsive to all our queries, and friendly tour guide/driver who told us a lot about Bosnia, Sarajevo and Lukomir on the way. Mostly off-road, so I would definitely recommend going on an organised tour rather than taking your car, unless you have a 4x4Written September 16, 2024

He brought us through the wonderful countryside and mountains of Herzegovina. We were at various beautiful spots and he took us to places off the beaten track, inclusding Villa Rustica (a former roman village) and a stay in and at the Trebižat river.Written September 7, 2024

- 169antjem0 contributionsFranz Ferdinand’ assassination helps understand the bigger pictureVery knowledgeable and passionate guide explaining not only how Franz Ferdinand spent the last day of his life visiting Sarajevo in a colourful amusing way . She managed to link the assassination to the political situation in Europe and the Balkans at the time, why it triggered WW1. We liked the walking tour with Yldma very much and learned a lot about history and its significance to better understand current challenges of BiH as a multicultural country. Highly recommendedWritten August 14, 2024

- R1263FBpaolag0 contributionsWonderful hike to the Waterfalls with great company! The tour was great, we were picked up at our hotel in the morning and drove to the highest point of the mountains to start our hike. From then on it took about an hour to get to the Waterfalls. We had great company with the guide and could enjoy the best out of Sarajevo’s nature. I would definitely recommend this tour with Spirit Tours!Written August 7, 2024

Myself and my friends gathered around 10am as Spirit offers a free guided tour in Sarajevo. Once we gathered it started to rain, however our amazing tour guide Aya started the tour which was lovely under the rain that added a special taste to the tour.
The tour lasted an hour and half, wondering the old city and talking about various landmarks and history.
The tour is worth doing specially in your first day in Sarajevo.

I had the guide said. I did the under the siege 1425 tour. He was so so knowledgable and had a great personality. Answered my millions of questions no matter how dumb I felt they were with full confidence. I walked out of this tour truly understanding more about this land's strategic advantage and the history of the war. would definitely take another tour with them 100%. We saw tunnel of hope, jewish cemetry, sniper street, other significant points in the city, hotel holiday, bobsled, trabavic mountain etc. he explained the history so so well. He deserves a raise honestly. It was a small group of 2 and so intimate. They included the tunnel of hope entrance fee in the tour which almost all the tours do not do!!! Every single one asked me to pay seperately on top of being more expensive. 100% recommend to any backpackers on a lower budget.

Sarejovo 1425 Days" was an unforgettable tour, leaving an indelible mark on my heart. Emina Koso, our tour guide, was the heartbeat of the experience. Her wealth of memories from the war was evident in every word she spoke, making the tour deeply impactful. Through her poignant storytelling, she courageously shared her pain, giving us a firsthand account of the war's brutal reality. Emina's emotional connection with the past made the history come alive, allowing us to empathize with the resilience of the people of Sarajevo. This tour was a humbling reminder of the power of storytelling and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

We took this tour with Emina and can definitely recommend ! Emina was a great guide, being able to paint a good picture about the history and the city, she also shared a lot of personal stories and we are grateful for her sharing. This tour offers the opportunity to get to know much more than you could get to know on your own!

Emina Koso was our guide for a tour around Sarajevo and its historical places, regarding the Siege of the city and the Civil War in the 90s. She was punctual and used her own vehicle for the tour, which was very convenient and comfortable. She explained precisely the historical events, while driving us around the city and taking us to the Tunnel of Life Museum, and she showed us the important buildings in Sarajevo, so we could understand better the movie about the historical events. Emina was well prepared on the historical period, she answered all of our questions and told us about her own experience of war. She organised a flexible and customisable tour, that we enjoyed a lot.

I got to go to Bosnia and Herzegovina unexpectedly to visit my granddaughter who is in school there. I took the Free Walking Tour of Sarajevo with Said as the guide first. Said did a masterful job of weaving history, politics, culture and religion into the approximately 2 hour tour. The tour itself was very interesting and was like a sampler platter of the city of Sarajevo. I am a note taker, and took about 4 pages of notes so I would remember the facts about the pictures I took. Said was knowledgeable, took the time to answer any questions, and made a point of involving his tourists in the conversation. HIs explanation of why the area we were walking through was called "The Jerusalem of Europe" was fascinating. The next day, I took the 1425 Days Under Seige War Tour, advertised as a 3 hour tour, but was actually a little longer (a good thing!). Ilma was our tour guide, and she did a great job of laying out the beginnings of the war, its causes and impacts on the city as we drove to the Tunnel of Hope. We saw Sniper Alley, the Parliament building. At the Tunnel of Hope, which is a tunnel constructed under the runway at Sarajevo airport, to smuggle people, supplies and arms in and out of Sarajevo, we got to go down into the tunnel and experience it first hand. The tour then took us up onto the mountain where the bobsled run for the 1984 Winter Olympics is located, as well as to the Jewish Cemetary. Ilma was very articulate and painted a vivid picture of effects of the war were on the people of Sarajevo. I HIGHLY recommend Spirit Tours for anyone visiting Sarajevo. Had I had more time, I would have liked to have taken additional excursions, including the rafting tour. Well maybe next time! Thanks to Said and Ilma for making my vacation memorable!

Great tour! The history of the city of Sarajevo is quite interesting and at certain points quite difficult to understand. Luckily for us, we had a great guide who could retell it in such a concise, comprehansible & interesting way, that it really touched our hearts... A must do tour for all of those who are interested in the war happenings in Sarajevo just at the beggining of the '90-s.

It was a pleasure to see Sarajevo from a different perspective from the surrounding hills, beautiful panoramas and lookouts under which the whole city can be seen.
In addition, we were reminded of what a horrible period this city and its inhabitants went through in the 4 years of siege.
The great guides Enes, Oma and Nadir gave us real history lessons about the capital of BiH, there was a beautiful gathering, very kind, smiling and interesting guides.
I would recommend this tour to anyone who really wants to experience and get to know Sarajevo in the right way.

Favourite tour so far. Our tour was led by Mr. Enes who was very funny, full of knowledge and interesting information. We visited all of the key sights and got to know the very detailed history of Sarajevo as well as some personal experiences from our guide. I would definitely choose this tour again, and recommend the agency. Everyone was so polite - I got the feeling they are very dedicated and passionate about their job.

Despite the lack of tourists during the pandemic, Enes and Nadir went out of their way to provide a great tour experience. Enes' witty and expressive personality was definitely the highlight of the tour. We had a blast walking through the fresh snow at the abandoned bobsled track and admiring the expansive view of Sarajevo from the abandoned restaurant on Mount Trebević. I appreciated that Enes shared some of his own personal experiences, like how he managed to track down the Swedish (?) boy that sent him gifts during the war and that he had the chance to personally meet and thank Bruce Dickinson, lead singer of Iron Maiden, for performing at Sarajevo during the siege. Enes has great taste in music and even sent me some songs related to the conflict in Sarajevo, which accompanied me during the rest of my time in the city and gave me a lot to reflect on.
The sites we went to were all super fascinating. At the Tunnel of Hope, I got to hear the stories of individuals who braved their lives to bring in food and supplies during the Siege. Enes was very candid in his delivery of Sarajevo's history. I could tell it meant a lot to him. If anything, this tour was too short!
