About
Gorgeous little South Sea Island is one of the treasures of the Mamanuca Islands. Crystal clear waters, coral reefs and thousands of colourful tropical fish surround the tiny island. The Half Day cruise to South Sea Island is perfect for those who don't have a lot of time to spare but still want a taste of the 'real Fiji'. This fantastic cruise means you'll get to explore one of Fiji's cutest Mamanuca Islands and get into 'island time'. As the island is only 30 minutes from Denarau, you'll have time to do many of the activities on the island and meet the friendly Fijian's ashore.

We considered a lot of different cruises before deciding on this one. For us the criteria were a) Not too far away as my wife gets sea sick b) Half day as that’s plenty of time in the sun for us c) Reasonably good island experience as it was our first time going off the mainland. d) All round decent quality and experience.

The South Sea Island Cruise checked all these boxes. We were picked up in a nice coach for the very short ride to the port. There was quite a bit of waiting after check in but that’s a good time to check the marina shops and restaurants if you haven’t been there before. The boat was clean and comfortable with shaded/unshaded deck options and indoor cooled section. There was a paid bar on the boat if you really need it, but beer and wine are free on the island.

The tour departed on time at 12.15. After arriving at the island we were welcomed and had a decent lunch and short dance and song performance.

There was more than enough deck chairs on the island … although we were there in off season when Fiji was still opening up after COVID so I imagine at peak it would be much more crowded … although the boat on the way back was quite full as it also included those who had been there for the full day.

Kayaks, glass bottom boat and snorkelling gear were also included in the price. You don’t really need to pay for anything on the island unless you want souvenirs from the ladies who were also singers in the lunch show.

Overall staff were friendly and helpful and the island was clean ans well maintained.

You can stay on the island if you like for a little extra. It would make a nice change for one night away from a resort hotel.

We were there a few days after a storm so there was a lot of sand in the water and very poor snorkelling and vision when in the glass bottomed boat but of course that’s unavoidable.

Some of the currents were also strong during the snorkelling and a couple of people had to be helped back to the boat, so borrow fins, take care and don’t panic.

Overall this was just what we wanted so great for those looking for a short & simple island excursion.

Had such an amazing time, my friends and I flew in from Australia and this is one of the cruises we did, loved the food, the performance, the activities and the overall island! Super pretty and also worth the price. They have a table where ladies from the village sell things which is awesome! but we honestly loved the energy given in the performance! the young boys and ladies were awesome! a 10/10 experience

South sea island is a great island to spend the day with lots of activities, unfortunately we only got 2 and half hours on this island because the combo cruise leaves at 12.30 and then sails around the Mamanuca islands doing picks up for the rest of the afternoon. If you just want to enjoy the views and cruise the islands (and stay on the catamaran) then this is for you but if you want to actually spend some time in the water or on the islands choose a different tour. Apart from that the tour is well catered for, the island is well set up for drinks, food, activities and tour guides. The boats are full, busy and air conditioned. Whilst you can enjoy the view from the top deck, it can get a little too exposed. Alternatively, the inside of the catamaran is well serviced and air conditioned. Again I wish I had chosen a tour that would have allowed me to spend more time on the islands and in the water and less time doing pick ups.

My son and I booked to go on the half day South Sea Island. My son is gluten free due to Coeliac Disease and at the time of booking this was noted and we were told he would be catered for. On arrival I spoke to the chef who told me fish, sausages and salads were gf. He only had sausage, and became violently ill, vomiting and unable to stand or walk. He had to be carried off the island and boats.Had a terrible time, and no apology from chef or company. A very expensive tour for nothing. The lack of care and apology was appalling. This was a very different Fiji to what we had seen on the rest of the trip.

We attended the half day South sea island cruise as we have 4 children the youngest just turned 5 and felt the full day would be too much for them.
We tossed up between this cruise and the Malamala Beach Club but went with this because the price was all inclusive and felt it was better value for 6 people.

We had a great day! All the kids loved it. One of my kids went to the kids club where a supervisor helped her make a grass skirt and did face paint, the tweens went snorkeling and kayaking and the youngest enjoyed the pool and glass bottom boot.

Plenty of space for everyone, I was worried the full day people would have taken all the lounge chairs but there was loads of room for everyone. The air con transfer from the marina is by a large boat then a 3 min small boat ride to the island, really no big deal and easily managed by all my kids so not sure what everyone is complaining about. We were lucky with beautiful weather with minimal wind so perhaps it is a different experience in choppy seas...

Food was barbecue with salads and bread rolls. Fish, lamb sausages, chicken and steak. Potato salad, coleslaw, fruit and garden salad. It was better than the buffet at our 5 star resort that's for sure!
Beer, wine, water and soft drink is included. Also coffee and tea.

I would say bring reef shoes if you have them as the sand can be quite coarse but we didn't have them and it was fine.

Highly recommend doing this cruise especially those with smaller children or teens! Wish we had done it sooner!

With the travel time this half day tour is too rushed. Visibility was poor unfortunately in the semi submarine and the island itself was very average.

Staff were really friendly and helpful. My husband rates this a 2 but I think a 3. The kids enjoyed the boat ride and quick attempt at snorkelling. Thank you

We went as a small group and were disappointed with cruise as poor weather meant that all water activity were cancelled, so we were basically sitting under a coconut tree
takling and eating. The island facility were very basic and the beach lounges and sun shelters in need of some tender love and maintenance. The food was not fantastic, but as usual the staff were friendly and welcoming. Weather is always issue on this sort of cruise and it would have been more enjoyable with the extra things to participate in, and time would have not been a waste. Also it was annoying that the cancelling, seemed unimportant and relayed to tour group without much interest. Finally we paid for something that did not happen and there was no chance of any part refund. Anyway try and avoid if any doubt over weather.

these boats are clean and well serviced. The bigger boats sell snacks and drinks. The half day tour cost us $10.00 per person and 90 mins of our time at the Wyndam Time share presentation. The presentation was fun and was one of the better if not the best we have been to. Yes we already own a time share but we do these things to see what the freebies are. Back to the trip. It was worth the 90 mins. The boat ride to South Sea Island was about 10mins. Everything on the island is free with the exception of the icecreams, spirits - beer and wine free, lunch free, scuba gear hire included in price, extra if you want to go scuba diving, kids friendly with small pool, and a glass bottom sub/boat trip. They will also take those experienced at snorkeling further out of the beach area. Best to wear swimming shoes if you have them as the coral on the beach is a bit hard on the feet. Worth a day out.

A small island not big enough to spend 1 hour on much less 4 hours . Very basic hut style bar and the same for a massage hut . Extremely basic toilets that were not kept clean . Small span of coral beach .... very difficult to walk on . Very bad communication so missed the snorkelling outing altogether and if I hadn't queried it would have missed the glass bottom boat which was nice but only about 10 minutes. Didn't snorkel off the beach as the sea was very rough on the day . A big tourist money grab. Spent the day in a hammock waiting to return while watching and listening to Fijian locals and staff party and dance on a day out.

Went on a family cruise to South Sea Island and we were not disappointed! It was a beautiful island with strong winds and an amazing beach. The cruise journey was fabulous too with panoramic views. I would recommend it for first time travelers especially if you love cruises.
