        Must do trip.
Absolutely amazing place to visit. We were there in the afternoon as part of a private group function. The staff are lovely, the amenities are great, and we had the most amazing experience when some baby turtles decided to hatch while we were there!

Malamala is over rated. The beaches are rocky. You pay to get to the island club and when you get there you have to pay a lot for cabanas and pool cushions. People are nice but they want you to eat and drink. The paddle boards are falling apart and they did not allow kayaking the day we were there. I would try other island.

This is a must do in Fiji!!
This is a must do!! The boat ride from port denaru was only 30 minutes. The island itself is indescribably gorgeous! The water is crystal clear and warm and the sand is white and soft. On top of that, there are plenty of cabanas, beach chairs, loungers etc to relax and soak it all in. The food, drinks and service are excellent as well. I would come back to Fiji just to experience this again. Vinaka malamala beach club for this amazing experience!

        Disappointing and lack of flexibility
We had a very disappointing experience with Mala Mala Beach Club through South Sea Cruises during our planned trip to Malamala Beach Club. On the day of our booking, the weather was terrible—pouring rain with no sign of improvement. Anyone familiar with Fiji knows how unpredictable monsoonal weather can be, and with a 19-month-old baby, it simply didn’t make sense to transfer to an island for half a day under such conditions. There’s minimal shelter, and we would have been stuck outside the Club restaurant in the rain, which is not ideal for families with young children. We held off making a final decision until the last hour, hoping the weather might clear up, but it didn’t. The rain was torrential, not just a light drizzle. Their website explicitly states the tour operates only in good weather, and this clearly wasn’t good weather. Despite this, when we tried to cancel due to the circumstances, South Sea Cruises insisted they couldn’t refund or cancel our trip, citing their terms and conditions. This left us feeling frustrated and disheartened. We invested a significant amount of money into our Fiji holiday, but this experience soured the entire trip. As a family with two young children, it was entirely unsuitable to proceed, but it seemed our situation didn’t matter to the company. Had we been adults alone, we might have gone ahead, but our children’s well-being took priority. This experience left us feeling like nothing more than a dollar figure, despite Fiji’s reputation for its family-friendly culture and love for children. Unfortunately, I now regret booking with South Sea Cruises and would not recommend them to others. This lack of understanding and flexibility was disappointing, and we won’t be returning.

Worth every penny for a low stress day at the beach.
Worth every penny for a low stress way to take a boat ride to perfectly clear waters on a Fijian island where the toys are free to use and the food is delicious. Loved that there were showers for cleaning up afterwards before the short 25 min trip back to Port Denerau on the ferry.

        Pretty island
Pretty wee island. Great equipment provided for snorkelling etc. Luckily we struck high tide. Unless you pay more than the already pricey half day trip, it’s difficult to find a cool shady spot. Food great in lovely cool cafe with fans by the pool. Too hot anywhere else for even older children. Showers at cafe were only a dribble. Still has too loud music per earlier reviews. Seemed disorganised & big confusion which bus to take home.

        Be careful snorkeling
Please use caution when snorkeling here especially if the sport is new to you. We, sadly, witnessed a death of a guest yesterday. Conditions were calm. There may have been an underlying medical issue.

        Relaxing trip for our holiday
We opted for the half day pass with a poolside bed. What a treat the day was. Would have enjoyed a map of the island on arrival or on the menu to see all of the features. The music was louder than I would have liked, especially where our bed was located so couldn’t enjoy reading. But loved the food, swimming options and excellent customer service.

Spent a full day at Malamala, booking a beachside cabana for two at total cost of F$448 (including credit card payment surcharge). Bus pickup from the hotel in Denarau was on time and it was only a short drive to the port, dropping us off about 20 to 30 minutes before the boat transfer (South Sea Cruises) to Malamala. Check in at the port was hassle free, and we were told boarding would be at 945 for a 10am departure - however people started queuing sometime before that, though there was plenty of seating onboard. On our vessel passengers seated on the inside lower deck were the last to get off - not a concern for us as our spot on the island was reserved.

We met our butler once on the island, and he took us to our cabana. Ours had a beautiful outlook to the sea and surrounding islands, and included lounger cushions inside the cabana, towels, and a safe to store your valuables. Our butler was great, and although they provide you with a phone to call to order food and drinks, he checked in every 15 to 20 minutes. Food and drink prices weren't unreasonable, and they had a cocktail special where you could buy five for F$99. The food we had was tasty, the drinks ice cold and strong. Note that for the cabanas they take a credit / debit card for charges while on the island, however you can also settle your bill in cash at the hub before you leave for the day.

The infinity pool was a nice spot to hang out and have a drink, and we did one lap of the island, although it's quite small so it doesn't take long to see all the sights! We did spend most of the day just lounging about in the shade of the cabana, taking in the amazing view.

Although Denarau hotels are allocated the 5:15pm transfer back to port, we arranged to take the vessel an hour earlier with our butler (this is for resorts further away like Marriott Momi Bay and the Intercon). Only difference here was the bus transfer from the port back to the hotel would not be available, but it was only a 15 minute walk back to where we were staying.

Overall a great day out, that I'd consider doing again if we returned to Fiji.

Our favorite day activity during our stay in Fiji! Highly recommend spending a little more for the daybeds, you won’t be disappointed and they are located surrounding the beautiful infinity pool which is quite convenient. The couples massages were relaxing, located in a more private location surrounded by trees but still close to the sea. Both ladies were very accommodating and just wonderful, we also appreciated the check-in on the pressure level. Whilst poolside were under the care of Nicky, who we nicknamed “Goddess Nicky” because she truly was - she provided excellent service. Nicky was prompt with our food (she actually found us in the pool to let us know it was ready so it didn’t sit - very grateful for that!), kept the drinks flowing and even brought them to us when we were in the pool and she has a sweet personality, friendly and with the best sense of humor! The food was great and there were healthy options available. Drinks were the best we had during our whole trip…these bartenders know what they’re doing at Malamala! Mojitos and Mai Tais were legit. The folks here performed as a tight team and it showed, they have synergy. We really enjoyed the beach-lounge music, not too soft/not too loud - perfect. Everything was freshly updated and clean. Even the sands were combed and grounds well kept….a gorgeous place! Also worth mentioning - this island has a dock with a pier so no shore taxi boats, which is a lot safer if the waves get rough late in the day. I dont know if anything could be done about the flies, this was the only unpleasantness, especially when food or drinks came out. We were told it was the season. Thank goodness we could get into the pool or go walk the shores when we needed to escape the flies for a while. We would definitely return to this heavenly paradise with attentive and friendly team…highly recommend!

Bula Sarah W, Thank you so much for your detailed and enthusiastic review! We’re delighted to hear that your day at Malamala was the highlight of your Fiji stay. It’s wonderful to know that the daybeds by the infinity pool, couples massages, and overall setting made your experience special. We’re thrilled that Nicky’s exceptional service earned her the title of “Goddess Nicky” and that she made such a positive impact on your visit. We’re glad you enjoyed the food and drinks, and that our bartenders impressed you with their mojitos and Mai Tais. It’s great to hear that the beach-lounge music and overall cleanliness added to your enjoyment. We also appreciate your feedback about the flies and understand inconvenience. We’re always looking for ways to improve and will certainly take your comments into account. Thank you for your kind words and recommendation. We look forward to welcoming you back to our paradise in the future!

We had a great experience at the beach club, we had booked poolside daybeds for an extra fee but it was well worth it. Strongly recommend, like other experiences, reserving daybeds prior to arrival.

We had a great experience with the wait staff, and had great couples near us even young families.

The infinity pool had great views and we spent most the day in the pool with a cocktail or a cold beer.

Lots of free and fun activities in the water such as snorkelling and canoing, also other paid activities such as massages.

Boat to and from Port Denarau was punctual and had plenty of seating.

Would strongly recommend for a island hop where you want to set your own pace or want quality time with a great view and great company.

Best island experience we had in Fiji. Would happy do it again (and nearly did).

Bula TravellingTax Adviser, We would like to thank you for your five star rating and review from your recent day cruise to Malamala Island. It sounds like you had an absolutely fantastic time at the beach club! Booking the poolside daybeds was the perfect decision, especially with the amazing views and the extra comfort they provided. It’s great to hear the wait staff was so attentive, and that you had a wonderful mix of guests around you — from couples to young families. It truly sounds like the true getaway for a perfectly relaxing day. Spending most of the day in the infinity pool with a cocktail or cold beer must have been so enjoyable, and the fact that there were so many fun activities like snorkeling and canoeing just made it perfect. We are happy that you also enjoyed the option of massages which added to that touch of luxury. I'm glad the boat service to and from Port Denarau was smooth and convenient, too! Your recommendation for an island hop experience that lets you set your own pace sounds like the ideal way to enjoy everything we has to offer. It’s wonderful to hear that this was the best island experience you had in Fiji and we are already looking forward to get a chance in the near future to welcome you back to paradise. Vinaka!

I wouldn’t recommend a full day here with kids. Half day at most would be plenty. There is no kids menu at all and the serve of fries we got cost $17 and was about 20 chips at most. There were plenty of kids here so god knows why a kids menu isn’t offered.
We were there on a rainy day and there wasn’t enough seating under cover for everyone so it was a cold miserable day for us huddled under an umbrella trying to stay dry. The staff did offer extra towels which was great.
We sadly had a snorkelling death while on the island even though it was calm waters so please be safe out there.
It’s a beautiful island but I would recommend it more to couples or younger people, not families.

Waste of money. Went for our 20th wedding anniversary paid $671FJ approx. $550AUD to sit on a beach. Paid for a Beachside Grand Cabana, located on the quieter side of the island. They come complete with butler service, lounging mattresses, bean bags and beach chairs. Only to check in and be told we over paid by $165FJ to go towards food and beverage, however, get to the island & 2 hours later, 3 different Cabanas, not even sure if we received what we paid for IS NOT as advertised. Quieter side of the island…shared with 35 other people…DO NOT spend extra money or waste your money to go to this so called private, exclusive adults only resort. In the end it cost $732FJ a lot of money for 5hours. Check out the photos for what $732FJ gives you. DISGRACEFUL.

I boarded the 9:30 boat to the island on 13 October. I was told that a waiter would make his rounds with a menu. By 3 PM, that waiter never came. Pretty much the whole day no staff ever came for my food or drink order. I made my way over to the restaurant area around 3:30 and decided to order a coconut with a straw because I was dehydrated. It took over 10 minutes for them to bring my coconut out. One coconut cost 10 Fiji dollars, which is pretty outrageous. I was also pretty annoyed that it took them over 10 minutes to bring out a coconut when they know I hadn’t been given any drinks all day. I do not recommend this trip or this company at all. I did the captain Cook cruises in May and had a fabulous time so I was pretty disappointed with this experience. I did a bunch of snorkeling and wasn’t even a little impressed with the reef. It was nice to spend a day, relaxing at the beach, but I won’t do any tours by this organization again due to customer service.

We have since highlighted the issues with the management team for investigations and prompt improvements. It’s tough when expectations from past experiences aren't met. Your feedback is important and will definitely improve in areas mentioned. Hope to get a chance in the near future to leave you memorable expereinces to treasure. Vinaka

Our family had a great time.

We hired for the day a rather expensive cabana for our family of 5 to have our own private space. It could seat up to 12 people. With our own butler.

The butler thing was a bit of a gimmick. We’d regularly not be able to get a hold via the phone we had, but fortunately he was very attentive and regularly would check if we needed anything.

Our cabana whilst private had nothing at the front to indicate our beach beds and umbrellas were for our exclusive use, so we regularly had people coming and sitting in our space. Some better signage would be better. Considering we paid a small fortune for this private space it should have been managed better.

Food was good, however $16 (or thereabouts l) for a small basket of chips was a rip off. But other food reasonably priced.

We enjoyed the pool too, however very small for the number of guests so often felt cramped.

You could walk around the island in about half hour which was lovely.

Towards the end of the day the showers and bathrooms appeared to be bombarded by people who weren’t guests. There were no cubicles to go to the bathroom or have a shower and there were clothes everywhere. At the end of the day we all wanted to use the showers to rinse off but were unable to.

The booking experience was horrible. I had over 10 emails just to make the booking. Every time someone responded they took no care to read the prior email exchanges and re asked all the questions. It was very frustrating.

It’s a beautiful day trip but I feel there are other places for better value.

This excursion is definitely a must-do if you are visiting Fiji, especially if you are staying in the Denarau area. The boat ride is about a 20-30 minute trip and it was aboard a very comfortable and modern yacht.

Once you arrive you are greeted by a long pier leading to the island that makes for excellent photo opportunities (check my pics!). once you've reached the island you will have to check in with the staff to get your towel card and to make any other arrangements. My tip would be to find an area first to put your belongings because all the good spots get taken pretty quick!

What I loved about this island was how beautiful and spacious it was and all the different things you can do, from snorkeling, lounging in the hammocks, eating at the restaurant, enjoying the infinity pool, or just taking a nice trek around the whole island to soak in the scenery. They also have kayaks to rent as well as snorkeling equipment if you didn't bring any. The food at the restaurant was delicious and they even have wi-fi access!

For those who are like me who love to snorkel this is definitely an excellent place to swim around and see some wonderful sea life. I was able to see a crown of thorns, a white tipped shark, and plenty of colorful fish. One can really get lost in the beauty of this place, it's both amazingly relaxing and fun.

My only complaint is how quickly time goes by because I could spend all day on this island if it was allowed, and unfortunately there is no overnight stays (which is understandable since the workers need to get home as well).

It was a bittersweet moment while leaving on the yacht with all the staff waving goodbye to you with an amazing sunset in the backdrop. Do NOT miss coming here, it's totally worth it!

Oh wow. This place does not disappoint. Went during month of June with friends to celebrate a birthday. From the moment we stepped on the island to the time when we had to leave we all felt like kings and queens on our own little tropical paradise. We were fortunate to secure a cabana with a butler overlooking the ocean and right next to the infinity pool. The big bonus was that there was no charge for this unlike other cabanas which you can prebook at varying prices prior to departure. Our butler Sake did not disappoint. He was friendly and serviced our food and beverage needs well. We participated in snorkelling near the jetty which wasn’t too bad. I’d recommend however taking one of the smaller vessel trips out to a reef further from shore as it may be better. Not much coral close to shore, the occasional fish and lots of broken and dead coral. Water was warm but strong current and waves. Food was tasty and fresh. We ordered slider burgers for lunch and a bucket of beer for $50FJD. Spent most of our time in the infinity pool and lazing under the umbrella. Trip over and back was quick and minimal bumps along the way. Highly recommend and value for money too,

What an amazing day. The snorkeling was great and easy to walk from the beach or jump/walk down steps from jetty. We hired a cabana in advance and LOVED this. It came with a butler who would take your drink/food orders and bring them to you. If he was at another cabana (he looked after several at the same time) we had a mobile phone to ring the restaurant for our order. The island is small so walking to the restaurant only takes a few minutes, but feeling rich and lazy in paradise is a good memory. The infinity pool was divine. There are free sun lounges and hammocks around the island, and today wasn't busy so plenty available, but i can imagine in school/xmas holidays there would be a mad rush of people to be first off the boat to get one. Pre- booking a cabana was the best idea. December weather- we were lucky with sunny/part cloudy days BUT the wind really picked up after lunch and caused the ocean to be quick choppy and made snorkeling allot harder.
