- winnieau0 contributionsLoved every part of this tourEveryone from the Jewel of Fiji team was very welcoming and gave their best to provide us a great experience. William worked a very long day driving us around and yet was happy and friendly the whole time. The Kava ceremony and singing and dancing were so heart-warming. The main host in the village taught us a lot of interesting things about Fiji culture and traditions. The canoe and bamboo raft trips were exciting, and the swim at the waterfall was fun. The landscape along Navua River was beautiful. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Fiji.Written July 6, 2023

The experience is a must for visitors to Suva and nearby resorts as it is a rainforest waterfall / canoeing rafting / river/ village experience. NEM is very personable and explains everything very well. The tour is wonderful and a MUST for all visitors. I grew up in Fiji and left for states and never knew this existed. Truly a jewel. Few things to note bring towels, change of clothes, swim wear small bag pack ..place all electronics in water safe covers..bc you will be taking a lot of pics. - 185blakep0 contributionsAn intimate, fun, and inspiring experience for the dayWe recently had the opportunity to experience this excursion as part of our Fiji getaway. Scott, the organizer, was efficient in contacting us early on to confirm our arrival and any last-minute details if we had any. Once at the shoreline, we were greeted by our tour guide, Nem, who was AMAZING. His combination of humor, knowledge of the islands, and his love for his profession clearly apparent as he directed us down the river. First, we came upon the entrance to the waterfall which took approximately a 10 minute walk to reach the punchbowl where we could swim and take pictures. After about 30 minutes, it began with a slight shower (it's Fiji, not unexpected!) and we headed back to the boats. About halfway down the river, our group switched over to the bamboo raft where we floated while Nem continued his overview of Fijian culture before finally jumping back in the motorized boats to base. From there, we changed into dry clothes and headed into the traditional village for a Kava ceremony, lunch, and entertainment. We sat in the main hall in a rather intimate setting talking about Fiji but also anything else that came up amongst Fijians, Americans, Australians, and New Zelanders. Nem expressed that this is the spirit of family in the Fijian culture and that everyone is to be included and open. We also discussed the Fijian tourism industry in detail as well. Finally, we were given a demonstration on shaving and opening a coconut (2 eyes and mouth with long ridged back), creation of a basket coconut leaves, along with the creation of mats and Fijian art. We concluded with the opportunity to purchase items made in the village. I grabbed a few items for myself as the money goes directly back to the village vs something pricer and less authentic at a resort gift shop. Overall, this was a great experience and have no regrets. I'd recommend plenty of sunscreen, water bottle, a small wetbag, a change of clothes, and comfortable water shoes.Written February 24, 2022

- Val_gmail0 contributionsWonderful tour and fabulous lunch! The motorized longboat ride up the Navua River was very pleasant and accompanied by a short bamboo raft ride while learning about the Fijian villages/ers. The short walk to the gorgeous waterfall was very special -- especially watching our guides climb up and brave a deep jump into the pool below. The water was very refreshing, but be sure to take caution when entering ... it can be VERY slippery. Once in the village, you can relax and enjoy/participate in the kava ceremony and other village traditions. The lunch was fabulous - I think my plate was the fullest of all attendees ... super DELICIOUS! Kudos to the village ladies. I was too embarrassed to go for seconds.Written March 3, 2020

- Sewjourn0 contributionsGreat Suva Shore ExcursionDiscover Fiji was a very good tour operator to work with. We booked this direct instead of booking through the cruise ship and saved significantly. The best part is we were a small group of 6 passengers on our minivan. We did join up with another group once we got to the village but it definitely was a much smaller group than if we had gone with the cruise ship tour. Loved visiting the village, taking part in the kava ceremony, dancing a bit and seeing all the village had to offer. We also got to see some demonstrations of basket weaving, coconut splitting and tapa cloth painting. The boat trip was fun and we thoroughly enjoyed swimming in the waterfall. Do not hesitate to book this tour if you have the chance!Written February 5, 2020
- MaAnDoAl0 contributionsEasygoing, enjoyable, family-friendly: Lower Navua River Whitewater RaftingA day on the beautiful Navua river is a day well spent. We chose the Lower Navua River Whitewater Rafting trip offered by Discover Fiji Tours, with Moses and Bill as our fantastic guide and long boat driver, respectively. Our kids, 7 and 10, enjoyed the long boat ride upriver, splashing about in the pool by the waterfall and the gentle rapids on the way back. This is a tour for young and old alike, not strenuous, yet out in the fabulous nature Fiji offers. The scenery is calming and wonderfully lush and green. Our 7 year old is slight for his age, and he managed just fine sitting by himself in the long boat and the inflatable raft. Moses kept him entertained in the waterfall, too; swimming and diving with him, carrying him on his shoulders close to the fall. Thank you, Moses, you made a lasting impression on the little one! Keep in mind, this is not a whitewater rafting tour for the truly adventurous seeking the thrill, this seems best suited for families with primary school aged kids to mid-teens but also older travelers who would like to get close to unspoiled nature. The tour concluded in the village by the river with a delicious lunch, all locally sourced food, cooked right there by the women of the village. Beats any restaurant. Don’t hesitate, book the tour, and spend time with the lovely community by the Navua river.Written January 30, 2020

Fantastic cultural experience for our 2 young girls (6 & 3).
The river canoe trip to the waterfall was fun and very safe. The 5 min trek to the waterfall was easy for the girls also (we all wore reef shoes) along the paths and once at the waterfall, everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed the magical waterfall.
Along the way back down the river, people had a chance to do a short bamboo raft trip and that also was safe.
The village experience was very well presented and had some great insights into how Fijians live day to day and also some history of their origins was explained. Their was a Kava ceremony, war dance, basket weaving, many uses of how to use a coconut and painting demonstrations.
Our village host was very informative with had a great sense of humour, could read the crowd very well and help out on and queries.
Well recommended and our girls want to do it again on our next visit.

This was an amazing tour with even better hospitality. I was the only traveler from my hotel near Suva going on this tour (which was approximately 1.5 hours away) and the tour group sent a driver to pick me up and take me to the village. He was incredibly friendly and stopped at a pharmacy so I could pick up sunscreen and mosquito repellant. Other travelers arrived by bus or van from Nadi, so no worries about finding the place.
The boat ride and waterfall were gorgeous and so much fun. We had ample time for pictures and swimming in the pool beneath the waterfall before we returned to the village for a traditional show and lunch. The food was AMAZING!!!! Then we went back outside to see carpet weaving and painting during which you could go into the village massage building and pay for a 5, 10, or 20 minute massage. I got a 10 minute massage and it was truly the most incredible massage experience I've ever had. Everything about this tour was incredible, the guide was so friendly and entertaining, and I cannot recommend this tour highly enough if you're on Viti Levu.

If you are looking to immerse yourself in Fijian culture this is the trip for you and your family.
Please be advised that this trip will start early 6:30am and probably won’t be back around 5-7pm depending on where you are staying. It is definitely WORTH it!
The drive from Nadi is 3 hrs long to get to Navua river and the village. When you arrive at the village the tour operators will meet you and give you a briefing on the adventure for the day.
First you will take the motor boat up the river to reach the waterfalls. The boat ride was Fun! It was a 35 minute boat ride to reach the trailhead to the waterfall. The hike go the waterfall is short.
The magic waterfall was amazing!! It’s tall and picturesque. You can also dip in the water. The water is cold but you get use to it as you immerse yourself In it.
After the waterfall, you return to the village and have lunch which was delicious. The kava ceremony is also held and then the people of the village offers activities such as a massage and basket weaving demonstration. In the end you can also buy some souvenirs from them so please bring cash.
Overall, this is a great experience!!! We loved it so much and the people are so warm, hospitable and friendly. It was an honor for us to learn about their culture and be welcomed into their home and community.
Don’t hesitate and book this tour!!

Absolutely the best day in Fiji, We have done almost 10 tours and out of all of them, this was the best tour. Amazing waterfall and the welcoming village are a must-see/do when in Fiji. Our tour guides Ziggy and Nam were the best, really making this trip even more perfect. Although it is a long drive from Nadi, Sam the driver made it fun and worth every minute. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a traditional Fijian experience with lots of laughs and beautiful scenery.

If you want a little taste of culture, this is a great tour. 2hr drive on a bus from the resorts to the village for a motorized boat ride to the waterfall where you go up a cement path to the waterfall which is about 1/4 mile long which you can swim in & take pictures. Then you get back into the motorized boat & transfer onto a bamboo raft & go down the river about 1mile. Taken back to the village where homemade lunch is served & a presentation of basket weaving & art designs is given. Then hop on the bus ride back to the resorts

Moses and Sam picked us up from our hotel and were very friendly and professional. It was a 3 hour trip but it was definitely worth it. We had the best day and everyone treated us as family. We made some new friends as well. Magic Waterfall is amazing and everyone should go and see it. The village tour was great and we learn about Fijian culture and traditional practices. The bamboo rafting was very relaxing. It gave us time to learn about the area and time to take in the scenery of the beautiful river.Lunch was amazing more food than we could eat. I am happy to say that I now have a new Fijian family..... everyone was so welcoming and my daughter loved holding the baby. Thank you to everyone we had the best day. I was wondering how we can view and purchase photos that were taken on the day? .... I forgot to ask but would like to purchase some of them 😊😊😊

Had an amazing, memorable time on the tour! The organizers were very accommodating to our requests, helping answer questions before my trip as well as helping me reschedule when my flight was unexpected delayed for a day and a half. The boat ride up the river was calm, relaxing with the perfect amount of must to cool off from the sun. The waterfall was a refreshing swimming spot with sweet fresh water. The village show was a once in a lifetime first person experience with delicious home cooked food for lunch!
My tips:
1. Bring a waterproof bag to hold your things in
2. Wear your swim wear to the start of the tour. You will get wet when you are in the boat
3. Wear water shoes or tight sandals for the walk up to the waterfall
4. Bring water
5. Bring questions to ask the tour guides about the history and culture of Fiji. The guide is very knowledgeable and very eager to share what he knows
3. If you are living on the western side of the island, expect a 3-4 hour drive each way to and from the tour

A wonderful day out. I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone who is in Fiji and would like to learn more about their customs and culture. It is both fun and educational and it's everything you want in a day tour. The waterfall was stunning and so refreshing to swim at. The canoe and bamboo rafting was so fun and the scenery was stunning.
The people at the village were so warm and welcoming and we felt right at home with them and their families.
The Kava Ceremony was very special and their songs and dances entertained us all.
The lunch they provided was the nicest food I've had here.
5 stars from us

This was a fabulous day out. We had an opportunity to see inland more & enjoyed a leisurely long boat ride up river to the Waterfall which was a short walk & refreshing swim. The welcome at our guides village was beautiful & the cultural dancing & singing was an excellent experience. Lunch was delicious & all cooked by the village women. Wow! What an experience this was. History, opulence, fabulous food and comfort. I was blown away by the transformation of this historic hotel from what I'd experienced 13 years ago. While visiting Suva, my companions and I had strolled by the old ruin and poked around a bit. It was wide open with mostly just the structure intact. Military families or actually camping out inside like squatters!
You could just feel the history of oozing from the walls nevertheless. I am so thrilled to see the restoration and have the opportunity to stay in this beautiful hotel in 2020.

Looking at the pictures I am wondering whether there will be anyone to assist me getting up from the raft and crossing the rocks. I am usually in good shape but concerned about that and the steps if they are slippery.
Written August 13, 2023
Yes the boat crew will assist getting in and out of the boat and raft. Very little rocks to climb over. You can actually go around most and plenty of people to assist. If you get in water at the waterfall, that can be slippery. Guide can assist you or fellow travelers.

I'm guessing it depends on mobility . I wouldn't recommend it if anyone requires a walking aid as the walk up and down can get a little surprising. But in saying that- I have a hip problem and, even though I was the slowest , I still got there in my own time. The guides are wonderful and very helpful.
