This was a group tour to several beach towns about two hours south of Montevideo. There were about 15 people on the tour and it was in a nice air conditioned bus.

First stop was the town of Piriapolis. It was founded in 1890 by Francisco Piria, a Uruguayan businessman of Italian descent. While it’s a beach front town, it is somewhat mountainous. Most of Uruguay is flat but Piriapolis has a Rio de Janeiro feel to it where it goes from the beach to the mountains. We stopped at Saint Anthony mountain to be able to see the city from above.

Next stop was to Casa Pueblo, which is a building constructed by a Uruguayan artist named Carlos Paez Vilaro. It took over 40 years to build and is currently a hotel, museum, and personal residence. Some people say it reminds them of buildings in Santorini, Greece; others say it has an Antoni Gaudi feel from Barcelona. It pays tribute to his son Carlos Miguel who was one of the 17 Uruguayan survivors that crashed into the Andes Mountains in 1972 as depicted in the movie “Alive”. They say this spot has the best sunsets in Uruguay.

Last stop was to the beach town of Punta Del Este. This is the “high end” resort town of Uruguay. They call it the Monaco of the South. We drove thru a neighborhood they refer to as “Beverly Hills” where each home had its own city block. They pointed out the most expensive house in the area at $15 million. Other than all the fancy homes and high end skyscraper condo buildings lining the beach, the big tourist draw and Instagram picture spot is a place on the beach called “La Mano” (The Hand). It depicts five human fingers partially emerging from the sand.

Before heading back, we stopped for a late lunch/early dinner as a group at a restaurant named Napoleon’s and they recommended a local fish called Brotola. I tried it and it was delicious. It’s a thick white fish that was grilled perfectly and served with baked sweet potatoes and salad. So yummy!

All in all it was a great day!

The guide was pleasant and the driver was v good and careful . We had a nice stop at Piriapolis a pretty resort town with a beach . Then we had a tour of Punta Del Este . After lunch we were brought to see La Mano ( The Hand ) the famous sculpture on the beach . After that it was on to Casapueblo which for us was the highlight. A long day but well worth it .

I booked a daytrip to Punta del Este from Montevideo and really enjoyed everything. I made the reservation via Viator and the company was TOP PRIVATE TOURS. I didn't want to make a long distance call so I just emailed them to reconfirm and everything was ok. Pick up was extremely punctual, I liked that. We picked up about 4-5 others guests, then we moved to a bigger bus and then we hit the road. First stop was Piriapolis. Nice view from the top. Very windy for me, though. Then we went to Punta Ballena to Casapueblo, from Uruguayan artist Carlos Paez Vilaró. I looooved this place. Reminded me a bit of Gaudi. We spent an hour here and watched a short film about his life. You can take lovely photos here. Then we went to Punta del Este and had lunch in a good restaurant (called Napoleon) though kind of expensive for what you get. Fast service and good food. Then we went to take photos of the famous hand at the beach. Unfortunately, winter was just over and it was VERY windy and cold. Some people didn't even go there to take a picture since weather was AWFUL. I enjoyed it though: a photo without tourists in it? Come on, how often can you do that? ;) We were back at Montevideo around 7 pm. I don't usually like large groups, but this was ok.

We really enjoyed this trip, but found the guide a bit short on details to the english speaking passengers. The tour covers some beautiful countryside and well worth taking the tour.

It's a magical place to visit. More than the architecture the place offer you a rich cultural experience! Make sure you'll have enough time to take a coffee while you enjoy the stunning view on the balconies.

The one-day tour is perfect for a short-stay in Montevideo while wanting to see one of the crown jewels of Uruguay. The tour was so much more than I expected, not least due to the amazing tour guide Ferderica, who led the group in English, Spanish AND Portuguese. A perfect balance between an action packed itinerary and plenty of free time to explore, watch the surfers and soak up the sun in many location along the way. I would highly recommend this trip for those staying in Montevideo in the off-season, but want to see what Punta Del Este is all about!

If you like peace and quiet and don’t care if it is cold and hardly anybody there, then you will love it. It is winter and therefore nobody is sunbathing at the beaches just walking their rambla and enjoying the gazebo at their port. I loved that it wasn’t crowded and the few there were just sitting there, I know I was enjoying the peace and quiet. There are a few restaurants open and I enjoyed a nice view from one of them. Good food. It was to take bus from Montevideo to Punta del este, I was back in the evening. Great for one day trip!!

I booked the trip with the hotel and everything went very smoothly. It's a good tour if you're not staying many days in Uruguay and want to see many things in a short period of time. When I went there it was raining but still managed to take a few pics with the famous fingers sculpture. Although I didn't get to experiment the resort as I wanted in the tour a visit to Casapueblo is included and that just blew me away. Carlos Paez Vilaro has created a masterpiece and the ticket is worth every penny. If you're ever in Uruguay don't hesitate to see it!
