Lima’s restaurants may be a shop window on Peruvian cuisine, but don’t deliver an in-depth experience of the art and flavors behind it. Opt for this Lima culinary experience and you get it all: a market tour with a local chef to choose ingredients, exotic fruit tastings, and a hands-cookery lession where you learn to create classic dishes such as “Ceviche” before savoring them for lunch or dinner.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- borisj8490 contributionsGreat experience! This was my first time in Lima and Peru. I didn't know much about the city so I've decided to take a tour hoping I will learn something about this place. Luckily, I had a great person to guide this tour. JJ is knowledgeable, smart, easy to understand and he was telling us stories in Spanish and English and I find that amazing! He showed us places of cultural and historical importance and I've enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommend this tour and JJ as your tour guide. Thank you!Written December 11, 2024
- 761dmitrik0 contributionsPleasant walkI would like to thank Gabriela for being an extra attentive and knowledgable guide. She made extra efforts to make sure that everyone got their questions answered and she provided very good and useful information. Having said that, I would like to differentiate between the guide and the tour itself. The tour is advertised to last 3.5 hours. We started at 9:30 and ended at 11:30, which is 2 hours. People were not rushed, while walking, and this is a great things but I feel that more could be covered. Also, the stops at at a chocolate shop for tasting and at a pisco place for tasting were, in my opinion, not essential to the tour. No one pressured us to buy things, however, this time could have been used for something else: history, sightseeing, etc. There could have been more info on the history of the city, not just a pleasant walk. Therefore, I put 4 stars, and not 5.Written December 10, 2024
- N1954PSelenal0 contributionsPeruvian cooking classWe had a great time learning about traditional Peruvian cooking. The hosts and chefs were very welcoming and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend!Written December 9, 2024
- J M0 contributionsWorry-free transfers from airport to Lima hotel.I was in touch with Stefano from Haku Tours about my arrivals and departures. He did a terrific job keeping everything organized. I arrived in Lima first, then went to Cusco, then back to Lima before flying out of Peru. All four transfers were provided by Haku Tours. Each and every time I arrived, the driver was already waiting for me. During pick up from the hotel (to go to the airport), drivers arrived earlier than the appointed time. All the drivers were friendly, courteous and professional. The rides were all smooth and I felt very safe. Highly recommended for transfers in Lima.Written December 7, 2024
- J M0 contributionsAdmiring Old City of LimaI had a great time doing this walking tour of the city, visiting historical landmarks and monuments. Unfortunately I could not remember the name of my able guide (who is in one of the pictures). He was very nice and knowledgeable. I was picked up promptly from my hotel. After picking up a couple more participants, we were brought to the City center of Lima where we got to admire many important landmarks. The guide would explain to us these different places we went to. We even had a free Spanish churro that tasted really good! For me the highlight was the visit to the San Francisco Monastery with its underground cemetery. This tour is highly recommended.Written December 7, 2024
- J M0 contributionsTouring four beautiful neighborhoods of LimaI was fortunate to do this tour with my able guide Aaron, who was knowledgeable, friendly and jolly. I was promptly picked up from my hotel in Miraflores. We did a walking tour of a park in Miraflores then walked towards the coastal road. We had coffee while admiring the stunning view of the coast. Then by car we drove to Chorrillos. We did a quick stop at a restaurant for its equally stunning view of the ocean. After this we proceeded to Barranco, an artsy neighborhood that I absolutely loved. I even got to cross the Bridge of Sigh while holding my breath in the hope that my wish would come true. Lastly we drove to a market in Surquillo, where I got to sample some of Lima’s tastiest fruits. Afterwards, I was dropped off in my hotel. I immensely enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend it, especially to first time visitors with limited time in Lima.Written December 5, 2024
- Mat W0 contributionsLima Tour!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gabriela was amazing! Very informative. She answered all of my random questions, and I did not feel rushed at all. I did the Lima city tour, which included a walk around the various churches and city center. It was a small group with one other person. She made sure we understood the "who, what, when, where, and why". From the timeline of the earthquakes to the Peruvian dessert and to the history of the catacombs, she made sure that it was a breeze. I recommend Gabriela for your tour in the city! Thank you!Written December 4, 2024

- Paul T0 contributionsA must see experience in Lima! This evening I did the Magic Water Circuit Show and was so glad I did. I was so lucky to have Aaron as my tour guide. He made the tour very special for me. Aaron is so knowledgeable about Lima and he gave me great recommendations. He continuously checked in with me during the tour to make sure I was comfortable and understood what we were seeing. This to me is the sign of a great tour guide who not only enjoys his job but goes the extra mile for his customers. He was very patient with me about taking various photos of me while at the park. A good tour guide makes or breaks an experience and Aaron went above and beyond. I highly recommend this tour. Thanks Aaron!Written November 28, 2024

Great experience. We especially liked the tour of the market and learning about the local fruits, vegetables, spices, etc. The chef was knowledgeable and engaging. She fully engaged everyone and we learned about the local food, cooking methods, and how to adapt different recipes to our needs (allergies, vegetarian, etc). The food was amazing and we got to try a nice variety of fruits. My sons (22, 19), husband and I all really enjoyed it. We had to show vaccination cards to enter the market and masking was honored. I highly recommend if you enjoy cooking and learning about local foods. Our guides were very helpful and gave advice on other things to do in the area.

If you are looking to explore bits of the local culture in Lima and try a sample of the rich Peruvian culinary tradition, this experience is for you.
Tour guide Junior will pick you up at your hotel in a van and take you to a close-by local market, where you’ll first meet Chef David, immediately decide what it will be for lunch, and then you get to explore the market. After walking the aisles, interacting with the friendly vendors and browsing the bounty of colorful fresh produce, seafood and some other things you may have never seen before, you head to Chef David’s kitchen, where he will welcome you with an apron and kitchen utensils… you want lunch? well, it is a hands-on affair.
Junior’s energy is contagious and he really enjoys sharing his culture with you. He is very knowledgeable and passionate. You may even learn a few Quechua words from him.
Chef David is not only making lunch, with you and fellow tour mates as sous-chefs, but he is enriching the whole experience with cultural and traditional notes regarding the origin of dishes and background of ingredients.
Junior and Chef David are a dynamic duo that get you entertained for a few hours, while you learn a lot and prepare authentic peruvian food in clay pots.
What an experience! Highly recommended.

My day started with a guide Robert picking me up at the hotel and grabbing a taxi to the local market. Robert was friendly and polite, and took time to explain me the menu options I have for the class. At the market, he took me through a different type of local foods sold in the market. And there, I met the chef Nindy.
At the kitchen, the chef Nindy and Robert helped me to learn and prepare ceviche, snacks, chilcano (soup), and pescado a la chorrillana (main fish dish). The chef Nindy is such a talented cook and all of her food tasted better than any of the food I tasted in the actual restaurants. And lucky me that I chose a fish dish with her since she said seafood dishes were her specialty!
What I liked most about the class with Nindy and Robert was the conversation we had during our class. I find I don't usually get to talk to or interact with locals when I travel and it was an unforgettable experience for me to spend such a quality time with them. Rober and Nindy was such a sweet person and I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who is visiting Lima.
Thanks again for the great time today Robert and Nindy:)

We loved this experience! Amadeo and Nindi were both amazing. Nindi explained the entire cooking process in simple terms and helped us understand how Peruvian flavors are really made as well as how to recreate them back in the States with different ingredients. Amadeo spoke excellent English and was very thorough and patient walking us through the market describing produce and answering all our questions. He found out that we were doing another tour the next day with a different company and gave us a lot of helpful tips tips and recommendations--talk about going above and beyond! By the end of the evening, they both felt like friends and we were stuffed full of delicious food. Highly recommend!!

My friend and I did this tour on our first day in Lima. It was a great way to learn about the city, get introduced to the local markets, and fill our bellies with amazing food. The tour guide and chef were both very knowledgeable, fun, and kind. Food was delicious: included snacks, an exotic fruit tasting, starter, and main dish. 10/10 would recommend.

Sebastian and Nindi picked me on time at my hotel. We went straight to the market for grocery and selected the veggies, and fruits and animal proteins for cooking the Peruvian dishes. During the time at the market, Nindi did tell me about the variety of products, shared her personal experience as a chef. Back to the office we started to do the mise en place and cooking the papa relleno (filled potato), Ceviche. I was really looking forward to experience a new technique for ceviche and I definitely wasn’t disappointed!! Sebastián was there to translate from Spanish into English when I did not pick up and he was also our dishwasher man. Seriously I can’t recommend enough this tour, they are very professional and very kind!

Great tour of farmers market and introduction and preparation of a few classic Peruvian dishes. A discussion and sampling of 12+ fruits was amazing. Chef David did an awesome job demonstrating preparation of the food and allowed everyone to take an active role. Aura was the tour guide and David's assistant chef. I can not say enough good things about Aura. Her knowledge, attention to detail, and one on one interaction will make the experience worthy of your time, but it is her pleasant smile and good humor that will make you sad when the event is over. I can not recommend enough!

Book this class. It is awesome. Amadeo does a great job of explaining all the different types of fruits and how the market operates. My favorite thing in any country is a local market and this guided short tour thru the market was awesome. After the market, we went to cook and eat. Our chef Nindi was so nice and such a great chef. I picked up a few tips to help the mise en place process go quicker. This class was a blast!

I don't know if I have a favorite part because the entire class and tour were absolutely amazing. On-time pick up with our two guides and our chef who all have amazing and friendly personalities. The tour of the local market was excellent and the explanations of different foods and how the entire market works was very interesting. We chatted with local vendors of all types and after we gathered our food we went back to their kitchen and began cooking. This class was nice bc each person had a different job so one dish didn't take a hour to make. The chef and everyone involved were absolutely amazing and we will be making the dishes back home in the states. This was our second tour with this company and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

This cooking class was amazing. Due to timing we ended up being on a private tour and it was great. We saw the local market, learned some customs, watched the chef shop for fresh ingredients, spoke with locals and then learned how to cook! Chef Ruth and our guide were both amazing, easy to talk to and with and made for a great time. Highly recommend. You'll even get a copy of your favorite recipes when your done! We even learned that this amazing program gives back to their local community and supports students and families.

Hi This tour looks very interesting but would like to know where it is as we are not staying in a hotel we are staying just outside Lima at a house in Callao, Buena Vista. How far of a bus ride is it from Lima? Thank you.
Written October 21, 2018
The cooking class was in the Miraflores area. I am not familiar with the bus schedule/cost. Once you book the tour I would recommend contacting the tour company directly to find out the best transportation route.
