- 1Pantanos de Villa is a wildlife refuge very close to the city. If you are a beginner bird watcher or a more experienced traveler, you will enjoy this place, with the help of our guides who love nature and birds will help you on this tour. It is a natural area where many migratory birds from different countries visit us and also live with many resident birds.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- MartyC1500 contributionsPrepare to reek for daysIt really wasn’t exactly as described… there were no snacks as advertised, the boat was not clean, and even though I’ve washed myself 3 times with lots of soap over the last 4 hours, the stench of that guano and sea lion excrement filled water is still quite present. On the plus side, they were very interesting, but the choppy and icy cold water was very unpleasant. Oh the stench…Written December 3, 2024
- Coastal464963099160 contributionsVery colourful and enjoyableExcellent communication from start to finish re the tour would have been nice if the pickup driver had spoken a little English but as we don't speak Spanish can't expect everyone to cater to us. Food was lovely and the entertainment was great. Well worth doing.Written July 25, 2024
- S3666YKjohnc0 contributionsLovin’ LimaWonderful experience. Well spoken and informed, Jocelyn, expertly guided us to and around the city center with many stops to discuss the historical and cultural details of the city. Hard to cover it all but received a good overview of Lima.Written June 27, 2024
- Gerale B0 contributionsOver priced for the experienceThis was an Overpriced experience. The coordinator didn't let me know my hotel wasn't "in the puck up route" until the day prior. I booked this trip 2 weeks in advance. Then tried charging me $60 for transportation. I asked him to waive the fee, he said no. Fine, the food was a buffet and some of it was delicious, however, for the Price, not that delicious. The show was 27 minutes and NOT WORTH THE PRICE.Written March 20, 2024
- Sunshine341930493580 contributionsSwimming with Sea LionsWe had an excellent tour going from Callao port via yacht to Palomino Island. There were hundreds of sea lions! Many were in the water with us. They were fun and entertaining. There are only four tour companies that are allowed to do this through Peru’s national park service. The crew is the boat was attentive and knowledgeable. On the return trip we even saw Humboldt penguins! Our only advice would be to bring your own snacks and water. Even though they say on Trip Advisor that this is provided, it is not. Other tour people were nice to share with us though. We were the only two people who joined the tour off of a cruise ship but they got us back in plenty of time.Written March 16, 2024
- 569angela0 contributions100% honestThe experience around the sea lions was cool, scary but cool. The guide was really nice. The excursion needs some upgrades for the price paid. I recommend a fluent guide, someone that can really explain what people are seeing. I only recall receiving info on the way to Palomino about the surrounding islands but no info was given on the way back to the dock. We fell asleep at that point. No snacks were given although it was supposed to be included. Refreshments and snacks should be mandatory since it's a long ride plus swimming makes you tired/hungry. If not, it needs to be removed off the description and customers should be advised to bring their own. Overall, it was cool but Idk if I would do it again with this company unless they made changes. I own successful American businesses, so please use this info to get better! This could be a great excursion but there are needed changes! Also, you should mention that towels should be brought. The customer wouldn't know if you didn't tell them but I did appreciate the blanket by the guide. He was really sweet. He swims very very well also, so I felt very safeWritten December 22, 2023
- mattfE6540YK0 contributionsTerrible Experience!Transportation was provided by TripAdvisor, yet the driver didn't know where to drop us off. While stopping to ask for directions multiple times, we missed the boat and got placed with another provider. The "yacht" had mechanical problems keeping us in the marina for an hour. We finally got going yet limped out to Palomino Island (on the way back, we were going so slowly, we couldn't out run the smoke coming from engine). The boat had no towels (the ad did not say anything about bringing towels to swim with sea dogs!), the water was quite cold, and it was only about 20°C with a breeze. We are looking for a refund. We were charged over $500US and this was NOT a good experience!!!!!!!Written November 18, 2023
- 500danyellf0 contributionsNot goodThis was a bad experience. The taxi they sent got lost, we missed the boat and they put us on another boat that broke down and the engine was smoking. It was not at all the experience we paid for.Written November 18, 2023
- TracyMcTravel0 contributionsPerfect tour of neighbourhoodsThis tour was exactly what we wanted. We saw three neighbourhoods and Jocelyn was perfect -in her English and her knowledge and accommodating at the pace that we liked. It truly was a perfect private tour and much better than we ever expected! She was a delight!Written November 16, 2023
- Martin G0 contributionsAmazing experienceThis is one of the coolest interactions with nature you'll ever have. The sea lions were amazing and so curious. The crew was great, boat was clean and nice. I highly recommend.Written October 5, 2023
- J8625SFglenns0 contributionsOcean, boat ride, nature, and animalsSeeing Peru from the viewpoint of the ocean is beautiful, the boat ride is both relaxing and adventurous, and swimming with the sea lions is nothing less than special and a unique experience.Written September 14, 2023
- alexaroma890 contributionsPerfect private walking tour of the historic centre of LimaOur tour guide (Yosselyn) was amazing. She was so knowledgeable and was able to customise our tour according to our interests because we booked a private tour. We learned so much and saw everything we wanted to see. Would definitely recommend !Written July 19, 2023
- paradeloa0 contributionsAmazing TourAmazing experience. The boat ride was fun and we saw a ton of wildlife. Spotted 2 whales 🐳 coming up for air. The sea lions were spectacular and there were so many. Even though the water was freezing cold 🥶 I would totally do this tour again. We got so close to the rock and saw sea lions swimming in the water with us.🦭Written July 12, 2023
- S7913UOmarkc0 contributionsWalking tour of LimaWe had a large group (12). Viator recommended a private car for 130USD. We declined and opted for public transportation as the tour was advertised. Jocelyn met us at our hotel in Miraflores and took us on a bus to Barranco, then on another bus to the city center. We saw the main squares, cathedrals, the presidential palace, and walked down Jiron de la Union (a pedestrian shopping street). She offered good information about the sites, some history, and a glimpse of the contemporary Peruvian political environment. I thought we would be finished in the city center, but she accompanied us back to Miraflores on another bus. I’m not sure how the private car would have been incorporated into a walking tour, but we were pleased with our decision.Written May 26, 2023
- P1253VAhollyk0 contributionsBook your adventure confidently! The hotel pickup helped me meet other people in smaller groups so I wasn’t anxious when we met up with the larger group. Once we got underway, it was a myriad of sights, sounds, and even smells. I don’t know that my trip would have been complete without this excursion and the company putting it together was awesome! Book confidently!Written May 6, 2023

Saw a review on Trip Advisor and decided to give it a try. Absolutely amazing, from the moment that I meet guide Nicole it was obvious how passionate she was about wildlife and the tour did not disappoint. Plenty of birds seen and Nicole’s knowledge was incredible. Take the little boat ride (12 sol) it is worth it to get closer to some of the species. Definitely a must for bird fans.

Our guide (Nicole) was very nice, enthusiastic and spoke good English. The wetlands themselves are not terribly large but there many birds, spiders and other animals that you get to see up close. The boat ride (extra 12 soles) is definitely recommended.

Jorge was an excellent birdwatching guide and worked hard to help me find my target birds in Pantanos de Villa and surrounding areas. He was very knowledgeable and great company. My family enjoy nature but would be bored with a typical birdwatching trip, but Jorge did a great job at making sure everybody was having fun. Recommend wholeheartedly.

The description & prior review are pretty accurate; our guide did their best & we did see about 25 birds in the 1st part (boat for 3 was 12 Pen ~US$4 extra) & saw thousands of birds on beach. With 1000s of birds bring closed, old shoes as you will come back with evidence of 1000s of birds. Only port a potty available in each location. Trip was less than 4 hours including transportation to & from Isidro hotel but could have been longer if we took more photos or had others with us—it was just my husband & I.

Jorge was a great guide. Kind and well-educated. Very knowledgeable about birds. Could ID by audio on most occasions.
Added 19 new species to my life list today! About 58 in total for the day, wonderful!
Jorge was also very engaged with the public, who may or may not be as invested in protecting the natural area. But you can see how his passion enables him to inform people and enlist them into the values of conservation.
The boat tour as well was a special way to experience the humedal (brackish swamp). It would not have been possible to enter this park during birding hours without his bona fide guide credentials.
Some favorites: the many-colored rush tyrant, Peruvian pipit, Peruvian meadowlark, burrowing owls, Peruvian thick-knee, Chilean Flamingo, and Great Grebe!

Nicole is so knowledgeable and friendly. I had a wonderful time talking about birds and finding many different species with her. The extra cost of the boat trip was absolutely worth it. I saw my first baby coot in the wild! The location is really neat, with varied habitats and many different kinds of birds. Totally worth the time and money! Thank you so much Nicole!

HI, see that the hotel pick up is scheduled for 9 am. Is it possible to start the tour earlier in the morning? My husband and I are staying in Miraflores and prefer to leave early to miss some traffic and see the birds that are out early in the morning. thanks
