About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- olesM7947OD0 contributionsA trip on the Amazon riverIn the middle of the jungle you have this lodge. The 3-day trip includes food and coffee/tea and water. Soft drinks and beer can be bought at an affordable price. Different groups arive and depart daily. So you meet other travelers loving nature The lodge is basic but comfy with your own shower and toilet. My lodge fitted for 3, but I occupied it solo. There is electricity 5-9 pm and no hot water Day 1 My flight was late. So the 2 hour tour to the lodge. In the evening a night walk. Meet insects, amphibians and reptiles. Day 2 Morning cruise on the Amazon river. Pink dolphins maybe 2 meters from the boat. In the afternoon monkey island. A rescue center for monkeys. At night another night jungle walk Day 3 Piranha fishing and paddeling in a canoe to an indeginous tribe. Then heading back to Iquitos It was a very relaxing but great trip, getting a bit closer to the rainforest. I would return, so highly recomentetWritten October 7, 2024
- baafreo0 contributionsDid the Amazon but didn’t get the full itinerary, missed some must-do’s 🙁Our once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the Amazon in Peru simply did not deliver. The Operators, the itinerary and the wonderful people serving in the Camp had the potential to be amazing, but our experience was sadly lacking. Day 1 - Pick up was punctual and well organized. Boat to the Camp was fun and a lovely feeling of being in remote wilderness. Camp food was amazing!!However the trip to Camp was only informative re the wildlife thanks to the guide from another company who was on the boat with us. We were supposed to visit Nanay markets - didn’t happen. The morning visit to Monkey Island didn’t happen until the afternoon. The afternoon dolphin watching - didn’t happen. The swim in the Amazon - didn’t happen. Day 2 - We went piranha fishing (which was supposed to happen on day 1) and it was awesome having our catch cooked and served up to us! However jungle hike to see giant celba trees - didn’t happen. The return boat journey, major luggage collection and drop off at airport all went well. Overall, we were casually shepherded here and there but there was very little sense of enthusiasm by Maniti in terms of what and how was delivered. We were left bitterly disappointed.Written September 29, 2024
- Dreamer431547608990 contributionsBest guide! Amazing experience :)We went in August 2024. Our guide's name was Segundo. He was incredibly amazing - kind, welcoming, extremely knowledgeable and helpful! We loved our experience !!! Thank you Segundo!!Written September 28, 2024
- Daryl T0 contributionsIncredible jungle experience!I did the tour around july, but i'm late posting this because it wouldn't be fair not to share my incredible experience there, Iquitos is such an amazing place, since you're landing there to the lodge in the rainforest, everything is magical, Linder our tour guide has a lot of incredible knowledge that make the experience even better, his patience and all of his support make him an important part of the journey, thanks for everything pal!Written September 27, 2024
- 489natalyaz0 contributionsOur best time in Amazon jungleWe loved our trip to Amazon jungle with Maniti Expedition. We were extremely lucky to get Linder as our main tour guide. He is really the best - very enthusiastic, with good English, with excellent communication skills. Linder is very knowledgeable about Amazon River, the jungle’s flora and fauna. We learned a lot. Thank you Linder, we adored every single moment. We also loved the food, they have a really good home style cooking, all ingredients are fresh and tasty. We recommend to stay at Maniti expedition eco lodge.Written September 19, 2024
- Peterbrucehaslam0 contributionsNot worth the money even though it is advertised as basicThis was my 2nd stay at the lodge and nothing has changed at all.We payed $1200 and again I ask myself " What am I paying for?" At every turn I was being asked for money to give to tribes, the water was disgusting filtered water from the river which forced you to buy bottles of water at 5 soles each in 40+ degree heat and 100% humidity which became an expense that I wasn't expecting at all on an all inclusive trip. Food was basic (rice, chicken and fish from the river) The place itself is filthy with no mosquito nets provided for guests and the guide was wrong in what he was saying about many creatures. At the end of our stay I gave 200 Soles as a tip and was then asked to give more for the rest of the staff because the 200 is just for the him (The Guide)which I felt was so rude. I just don't know what the $1200 bought other than just having a hut without even a basic fan ( you had to pay for a hand held one instead) When taken to visit a tribe agim, you were more or less held hostage until you bought a trinket or something, We also got stuck in the boat going along a tributary only to be told again that I should pay money to 2 drunken men in the river to push us out of the mud, the guide bece annoyed when I said I had no money. This is the last time I will stay here and would advise anybody to go to a different camp . TOURIST TRAP 4/10 I can't stand having to pay out money on all inclusive trips .Especially for water .AVOID ,Written September 15, 2024
- Roger V0 contributionsAmazon jungle experienceOur experience was wonderful. We had a great tour guide Piero, having lived in the jungle he was able to share with us everything he knew. The tour was very accommodating to our schedule and allowed us to maximize the short amount of time we had due to an early flight the second day. I recommend this to anyone traveling to Iquitos if they want a good view of life in the Amazon!Written September 13, 2024
- jk2014kk0 contributionsFantastic trip and super guide ReneI had the best time here . This was definitely the highlight of my trip . Our guide was Rene and I feel so lucky to have had him . He was so knowledgeable about the area and also filled us in on local legends and stories . The 5 days were so much fun with him , we saw so much wildlife and learned about different plants and connection the people have to the land . I really hope I can get back one day .Written September 12, 2024

The tour guide Mr. Segundo provided me with thoughtful service. he has very rich knowledge of the jungle. And full of feelings for the Amazon rainforest. I am very grateful to him for his help. I caught piranha and swam in the Amazon River. And play edexcited zip line. These are the first times in my life. This is a wonderful adventure.Written September 8, 2024
- PoochPatch0 contributionsBrilliant introduction to the Amazon BasinJust back to Iquitos after an incredible jungle tour with Maniti Eco Lodge. We decided on the 2 day tour as it was our first visit to Peru and the Rain Forest and we were worried about it being too overwhelming (plus we are in our mid fifties!) We needn't have worried from when Rene (our guide) picked us up from our hotel and said goodbye to us at the end of the tour, we were in safe hands. The walks were fascinating and not taxing at all. Rene took us on 2 daytime Jungle walk and 1 nighttime walk. His knowledge was absolutely incredible and so was his English. My husband was particularly fascinated with how the jungle can provide medicines for all sorts of ailments. He even ate live termites which are the best thing for Mosquito protection. (I didn't yuk!!) He also took us to see the Yahua tribe where we had a go at using a blow pipe, Monkey Island where I got to cuddle orphaned Monkeys and Piranha fishing. You can't go wrong with this team (especially if you are lucky enough to get Rene) Thanks GuysWritten August 27, 2024
- A8444KMsimons0 contributionsTour executed by external company, different program as sold, price scam and guide that sexually harasses womenTo start out the tour I did was not even executed by Maniti itself. They outsourced to a completely different company without telling me anything about this circumstance. Other people in my group only paid 200 soles (~50 USD) per day, so basically half or a third of the price that Maniti sells you the tour of a different company for. I booked 2 nights of camping in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve. In the end we spent the first night in a lodge. On the second evening we got driven with a boat to some spot right beside the Amazon river. Before sunset we had to quickly put up the tents and that was it. That's the camping experience - no expedition, no activity, at least you get to make a fire, so the other members of my group and me had a good time on the evening. But the guides did not sit with us. Partly this was because they kept drinking on their own, but additionally in our group of 6 there were 3 girls that all said they felt very uncomfortable with the guide Jair. To one girl he "only" kept making jokes about how she should cook and clean for us all. He kept harrassing another girl, offering her butt massages and trying to get close to her until she had to push him away from herself. The guide never explained which activities we were going to do that day. He only told us a time we should be ready and showed up late almost every time himself. If somebody else would ask him about the activities he would get angry. To be fair he is very knowledgeable about the different species in the Amazon - but on a personal level nobody in our group got along with him well. To be honest the activities themselves were great. I still had fun most of the time personally. But booking with another company will give you the same activities for a price that's much more fair and with guides that are much more responsible and trustworthy. If you're reading this I absolutely encourage you to do an Amazon Tour, especially in Pacaya Samiria! It's an awesome experience. But do not book it with Maniti and you'll be able to make the more out of your time and moneyWritten August 15, 2024
- Z7067YUkevinm0 contributionsJungle expeditionWe had the best few days out in the jungle at the Maniti lodge. Our guide Linder was amazing and full of knowledge on all plants and animals. The excursions were well organised and always fun! The accommodation is very comfortable and the food was great. - IsmaelMilligan0 contributions7 day taste of the Amazon5/5 I had a phenomenal time. My guide Linder and the staff at Maniti were knowledgeable and hospitable! Almost everyday there was something that made me go WOW whether it was seeing river dolphins and swimming in the Amazon, playing with tarantulas, or getting close and personal with an anaconda. A few things tourists should know before attending: 1. It’s a lodge not a resort. There’s no AC, no fans, electricity for only 3 hours per day, and no hot water showers. There will be bugs (duh it’s the Amazon and my room had a very friendly and very large tree frog that kept me company. Meals are humble, delicious, and cooked with care. And if you’re polite the staff will share sweet mini bananas with you. 2. Unless it’s in captivity (reptile sanctuary and monkey island) you’re not guaranteed to see anything. Nature isn’t on your schedule. That being said I saw the following species in the wild: pigmy marmoset, squirrel monkeys, saddle-back tamarin, great egrets, Amazon kingfisher, green parakeet, gold headed manakin, herons, crimson-crested woodpecker, pink toed tarantula, piranha, pink and grey river dolphin, two species of poison dart frog, green vine snake, a three toed sloth and countless other species I can’t name. I also saw some of the freaky fish that live in the dark waters of the river when a fisherman pulled up his net. Truly sci-fi like things. 3. Bring bug spray and a good headlamp. Also long sleeve shirts and pants for night hikes. Good boots for when it’s muddy, sandals for lounging about, and moisture wicking shirts go a long way. 4. Your attitude matters. Be kind and be adventurous and you’ll have a great time. The people and communities you will interact with are fiscally poor but rich in life. They’re some of the most humble and kind people I’ve ever met. Many live without running water or electricity. I say that to remind you that entering the jungle is like entering their home. Treat it and them with respect. Leave your need for western comforts in Iquitos and embrace the jungle. It’s worth it.Written July 31, 2024

If you're not used to any jungle or tropical environment or have no sense of adventure; this place will probably test your limits. If you're easily put off by something out of your comfort zone, or you're going to complain about the natural environment, or that your expectations are a 4-5 star resort that's going to bend over backwards for your every request then stay at home.
But if your keen on being the opposite of the person I mentioned above then all of your senses will be tingled by the Peruvian Amazon.
The last day of the tour we managed to see a few interesting birds and quite a number of iguanas. As we were about to make our way back for lunch it started raining and it really came down but it changed the entire scene of the river. It almost continued to rainthe entire day which meant we didn't do much else but the rain certainly got rid of the heat and the mosquitoes which meant an afternoon spent laying down with a good book even better.
During the time of the tour our guide René made sure we had plenty of opportunities to see the wildlife, which he insisted on saying he can't promise we will see everything as it's wildlife. Which I understood well and told him 'I know you can't make the animals come to us, it's stupidity to think like that'.
Regardless of this I saw plenty of different spieces for the tiny pocket of the Amazon.
All in all a great trip into an relatively unknown world to me.
