About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- sherwood b0 contributionsA fantastic bucket list trip!We just took a 3 night cruise on the Delfin 3. It was fantastic. Our room was spacious and beautiful. The staff was super professional and all the tours were first class. We even had several pre-dinner presentations that were interesting. My wife and I travel a lot but have only taken “small boat” cruises which we love. The vibe is great, really just like a floating 5 star hotel. I do have to say, I was not extremely impressed with the food. It was “good” definitely not great. But to show how much I loved the trip it’s still a 5!!!Written August 5, 2024
- prball120 contributionsAmazing 4 days on the AmazonThe four days I spent aboard the Aqua Nero were amazing. The staff is so welcoming and cannot do enough for you. Our guides were so knowledgeable and accommodating. The food was delicious it is served family style but they accommodated me and my husband at every meal with vegetarian dishes without ever having to remind them. Our cabin was spacious and very comfortable. It was a real treat to have our laundry picked up 3 times a day and returned promptly with no charge. The lunch served on the shore of the Amazon was truly something memorable. I can’t say enough how wonderful it wasWritten July 25, 2024
- Roy V0 contributionsGood experience with lots of activities and professional staffThe experience was amazing. It is possible to see a lot of animals, of the amazon river and also the daily activities were really cool to do. I liked how each activity was well organised and also that there are a lot of different things to do. If it was a visit to the indigenous people, climbing through the trees or visiting the monkey island. The guides made sure everything went perfectly and knew a lot about the area. The accomedation itself also was nice, there was a pool for when you are back at the lodge, the lodge itself was really beautifull and clean and the cooks also never dissapointed. I also want to give a special credit to Alex who could tell a lot about the places and also told the coolest stories with things he had experienced in the past.Written July 10, 2024
- V9592MJamyw0 contributionsLodge is great, tours are questionableFirst off, a few pros The tour guide was amazing! The food was some of the best we’ve had the whole time in Peru. 10/10 The pool/rooms were great, lots of work going on when we were there, clean and fun lodge though! The couple that run the lodge are also very nice. The adventure park was a lot bigger then we thought it’d be! The cons, The “native village” is a huge tourism grab. They just have tables set up to sell you things. They are just locates putting on an act… So if your excited about that like we were, be aware your most likely going to be let down. They also take you to an animal park were the animals are kept in questionable situations.Written June 11, 2024
- 114jackm0 contributionsHow did I Enjoy Thee, Let Me Count The WaysIf I could, I would give more than 5 Stars. The staff, Beginning with Captain Richard, the food prepared by Chef Juan Diego (as close to being Michelin starred as possible), and the clean & roomy accommodation were above and beyond expectation. The highlight, from a staff standpoint were the guides George (of the jungle), Billy and Juan Luis and the cruise director, Galilea. Of course the dining room staff were all excellent - particularly Freddy, Luis & Maxima. The primary highlight was the opportunity to spend 7 days exploring and experiencing the Amazon River, in Peru. But to do it while receiving above & beyond service, was icing on the cake. We did spend 7 days on the ship while most others did the 4 day trip. Because of the staff and service, we did not regret the extra days. Just a few of the service highlights/ things of note: - Cold towels given out while on the skiff during very hot and humid weather. - Skiffs were very sturdy and comfortable. - Following hikes into the jungle our shoes were left behind to be cleaned. - One of the many highlights of the trip was the opportunity to visit a number of villages. Suggest you go to Costco and buy a lot of candy to share with the children during these visits. - A nice touch is we had our personal laundry cleaned everyday. Following each daily excursion, sweaty and dirty clothes were placed in a basket, picked up during turn down service each evening, and returned the next AM. - Finally, at the end of each cruise, the very talented guides, restaurant , etc.,staff put on a farewell show. Not to be missed. The only suggestion I would offer is to lighten the portions at lunch. We were forced to have a nap following each lunch. 🥴Written April 20, 2024
- God_6990 contributionsUnforgettable and incredibleAbsolutely incredible! Me and my partner are travelling through Peru and the Caribbean for my 30th and decided to book this tour (it is still available to book online). Hands down, this was the most amazing experience of my life! On the first day, we were picked up from our accommodation and visited the Yagua indigenous tribe, the Fundo Pedrito animal sanctuary and went out for a jungle excursion. At the tribe's village you take small presents for the children of the tribe (sweets and colouring pencils purchased from Iquitos port), which they were very excited about. We bought a couple bracelets made from Anaconda teeth and local berries/ seeds as a little memento, got to try our hands at some target practice with a traditional dart blow gun, and took part in a small ceremony. At the animal reserve we saw Macaw's, Caiman (which we got to feed), Anaconda (which we got to go inside the enclosure with), and giant Paiche (huge fresh water fish which we also fed and got to touch). Then, once at the Avatar Lodge, we went out for a jungle excursion where we learned all about the Flora and Fauna of the jungle, including very useful survival tactics such as how to use termites to keep mosquitoes away (very useful and effective!). Day 2 we went out looking for pink and grey river dolphin (beautiful, majestic creatures!), fished for Pirhana (however only one small one was actually caught on this occasion so it was put back), and then got to swim in the amazon river - which was a bucket list item for me. We went out for another jungle excursion looking for finger monkeys (which we found after only a short while), and then lazed around in the pool to cool off before going for a night time jungle excursion and saw Tarantula and many other large Spiders, loads of lizards, frogs, and other critters - the jungle comes to life at night!! Day 3 we went out for a sunrise boat trip to see the dolphin once more (early morning is a much better time to see them as they are hunting for fish), and then went to a monkey sanctuary; prior to the trip I was not overly fussed about seeing the monkeys but it was such an interactive experience as they climb all over you and you feed them, and it was just great, I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. Finally, we did the Mirador zipline and jungle swing experience (which is like GoApe on steroids), and then finally, we chilled in the pool once more to calm our nerves before, sadly, leaving to return to Iquitos. I have to take the time to give a HUGE shout out to Alex, our tour guide, who was one of the most wonderful people we have ever met. His knowledge and expertise were priceless and seemingly endless; he is such a kind and interesting individual and made our trip truly unforgettable. He has some mind blowing stories and goes out of his way to make sure your trip is an unforgettable one. I also have to shout out the chef's while we stayed at Avatar Lodge, as the food they cooked us fresh each day, most of which was from local plants/ tree's, was delicious and far exceeded our expectations. Also, there is a cute dog who lives at the lodge and another couple more that live in the jungle, all of each are so lovely and friendly! 1000/10 would recommend to anyone with a passion for nature and adventure. I would absolutely love to return here as often as I can!Written April 3, 2024
- Hannahrobin9950 contributionsAlex went above and beyondThis was the most incredible experience! Alex, our tour guide, knew everything about The Amazon and more! He ensured we were safe but still allowed us to get up close and person with what the jungle had to offer. His passion for the aminals and creatures was very inspiring, he made the trip for me, genuinely amazing guy, with some great stories to tell. The accodation fed us very well, big portions, we didn't need to use our snacks, the food was amazing! The rooms were cosy, the swimming pool was right outside our room and was very much needed, and kept clean. The activities were great, we went to the aminal sanctuary, met the indigenous tribe, went swimming in the Amazon river, went pirhana finishing, saw dolphin's, went on a night walk, watched the sunrise and saw the river dolphin's. I will remember this trip for the rest of my life. To see the lack of reviews is shocking! If you're thinking about going here, do it!!Written April 3, 2024
- 818alliep0 contributionsWOW!I absolutely cannot recommend the Aqua Nera enough! Our experience was a 10/10 all around from the excursions, to the dining, to the staff. Jordano was one of the best bartenders I have ever seen (and I’m from Nashville)! His knowledge and friendliness helped make our trip unforgettable. Maximo was an incredible server who shared so much of his knowledge of the Amazon with us! We were so grateful for everything he taught us. Neycer often led our excursions, and he did a fantastic job! He could spot animals that we couldn’t see even after a few minutes of searching with him pointing directly at them!Written March 15, 2024
- jasonrP8088HT0 contributionsAn non-bank-breaker way to see the Amazon riverAfter a 4:25 am flight from Lima and then a five hour wait at the Hilton Garden Hotel, we boarded a bus for a 2.5 hour ride to Iquitos where we boarded the boat. Staff was very pleasant. Food was average. Ordering wine with your meal involved someone having to running upstairs. Cabins were small and very basic but comfortable. It was a bit visually jarring when you turn into the hallway of rooms and see what for me are white aluminum, exterior door. The trip involved a number of daily excursions on skiffs which at first felt like a bit of a scam but then the monkeys, sloths, snakes, dolphins and piranha made a number of appearance. The guides were very knowledgeable…and chartty. If they had read the room, they have seen a punch of sweating, exhausted people swatting flies away but just the moment “let’s turn around and watch more pink dolphins.” The despair was palpable. .Written January 4, 2024
- Bronwyn K0 contributionsExquisite experience of the AmazonWe had an incredible experience on the Amazon with the Delfin 1 crew. The riverboat itself is exquisitely furnished and luxuriously comfortable - and the food is delicious! The excursions from the boat were well-planned and interesting. We got to experience the Amazon in many ways - jungle walks where we saw a sloth, anaconda and tarantula, river skiffs where we saw lots of bird life and monkeys, swimming and kayaking in the Amazon and visiting local communities. Our guide (Denis) was highly knowledgeable, warm and always flexible in accommodating everyone’s needs. This was a special trip which we will remember forever.Written November 4, 2023
- Mobile611837814870 contributionsAmazing Amazon AdventureWe just returned from a cruise on the LaPerla. The size and cleanliness of the boat, the friendly and knowledgeable crew, and the Amazonian experience was all truelly memorable. We visited villages and learned a lot about their cultures/traditions. We were fortunate to see many pink and grey dolphins, sloths, anaconda, boa, bats, many birds, an assortment of monkeys, capybara (at a rescue), turtles, lizards, etc. Our guides were so knowledgeable and passionate of the Amazon and their culture. We learned so much and loved every minute of this Amazon vacation.Written October 30, 2023
- 64Joanne0 contributionsIncredible, beyond amazingAn amazing experience, truly incredible. The staff on the boat are so helpful, kind and nothing is too much trouble. Beckett and Carlos in the dining room along with Charles the barman serving drinks and the amazing 5 course meal in the evenings. The dining area was always immaculate and the buffet breakfast and lunch and the served evening meal were of excellent standard and very yummy. Congratulations to the chef and his team. Robinson and Daniel were amazing naturalists. Their incredible ability to be able to see the smallest of insects or birds from a distance amazed us all. Their wealth of knowledge and great sense of humor helped to make my trip unforgettable. Marcos, the medic, was always on hand. When we went out on excursions , when humidity was high he was, there just in case. Continuously helping and checking that everyone was ok. Emily, the cruise coordinator, who made a difficult job look easy. Always with a smile, ready to help, and provide the best experience for every passenger. Karen who is the masseuse, her hands are magical. The room attendants who keep the rooms spotlessly clean and the beautiful flowers and animals that they surprise you with when you come back from an excursion are incredible talented. The two skip drivers who instantly fill you with a sense of security on the skip and their eagle eyes at helping to spot wildlife. The guys in the engine room and those who help to steer the Zafiro who never seem to tire. The Zafiro band, what can I say, GREAT entertainment. Finally, the most important member of staff, the Captain. Thank you for keeping us safe. Congratulations to all the staff on board and a big thank you to each and everyone of you. You all did a great job. You made my dream a reality and surpassed all expectations.Written October 29, 2023
- S7774JKkatiem0 contributionsPure luxury, amazing food, wonderful spaces and the best way to see the Amazon! My sisters and I took our mom on the Aqua Nera as a surprise for her 80th birthday. We came home incredibly impressed and agreed it was indeed the trip of a lifetime. The boat is 6 star!! Huge, luxurious cabins with beautiful bathrooms and furnished like a modern, luxury hotel. 3 times a day housekeeping - including all laundry (back same day, folded). The staff on the boat were so positive, helpful and always went over and above. The wine and cocktails were fantastic - but the food was indescribable. Creative, fresh dishes using local ingredients and a chef that loved sharing the art of his craft. The spaces within the boat - especially the living room/bar were wonderful. Privacy when you needed it - but otherwise a social atmosphere with endless views. The outdoor spaces are well thought out and again offer something for everyone. The naturalists are fountains of knowledge and make the trip! They know where to take you, at what precise time and then bring the Amazon to life day after day. The staff also surprised us with cocktail and appetizers on a sand bar to watch the sunset our last night. What you are expecting - double it! We are already planning our next Aqua adventure! p.s. we never saw a single mosquito.Written October 21, 2023
- 62erinl0 contributionsTrip of a lifetimeWhat an amazing experience! I cannot overstate how much we enjoyed this cruise. The boat is beautiful and the staff are all amazing. Everyone went above and beyond to make the trip great. The nature guides were both extremely knowledgeable and fun. They want you to see and experience everything the Amazon has to offer. Every day has 3 excursions starting bright and early at 6am. Obviously you don't have to go on them all but we didn't want to miss anything. We saw pink river dolphins, monkeys, sloths, cayman, tons of birds. Even an anaconda! We went on the 8 day 7 night and I'm glad we did the full tour. The food was excellent. Breakfast and lunch are both delicious buffets and dinner is a 5 course meal. I think lunch was my favorite but they were all great. Again, the staff was super lovely and amazing. If you are on the fence about this trip, trust me...book it and you will not be disappointed.Written August 19, 2023
- murf19540 contributionsA taste of luxury on the mighty AmazonThis is a unique way to see the Amazon at its source near Iquitos, Peru. Cruise director Emily and a team of true experts on the flora and fauna of the region, naturists Robinson and Daniel, make the experience both educational and highly stimulating. On top of that, the Zafiro offers a culinary experience with elegant multi-course meals, enabling passengers to taste memorable food such as fresh Amazon fish and Peruvian desserts that are impossible to forget. All of the cruise staff we encountered are musicians, believe it or not. Joining the trip was easy by flying to Lima and meeting the tour group mid-morning at the Hilton Hotel in Iquitos. All transfers are arranged. We loved the whole experience!Written August 18, 2023

Even though the experience in the boat was wonderful, the entire reservation process was a disaster. Calls/emails not returned, wrong information and questions answered incorrectly. We came very close to not going because of the “front end.” We did go and had a great time. That being said, rooms are very small, limited space for storage and my room was extremely noisy.

After landing in the wonderfully romantic jungle metropolis of Iquitos, we had a quick lunch of fresh river fish at the famous Restaurante Fitzcarraldo then off to Nauta to board the Aria. We had a quick excursion to spot pink and grey river dolphins before our first excellent meal.
The following day we were up exploring narrow waterways, meeting villagers, and finally listening to the song of the forest as sun set over a backwater.
The next day we were up early for a riverside picnic, piranha fishing, and a jungle nature walk.
Every adventure was supported by our excellent guides, and amazingly professional crew.
We were very sad to leave the ship which had become our home so quickly, and we may well return for a longer trip.
A flawless adventure which we can't recommend enough.
A huge thank you to everyone who made this so special.

The service is 5 stars with very attentive and one to one ratio of crew to guest. The food is the highlight with special attention to Peruvian and local ingredients. When the weather is good the excursion is also a lot of fun! We did the four days cruise they also offer longer ones. We had a great time and would recommend to others.
However, because the experience is not exactly cheap you should be aware:
- when the weather is not good meaning raining and it rains fairly frequent as you can imagine, the animals are NOT out and you do not have much to do onboard (the boat is not equipped with any entertainment)
- it does not have like professor or other distinguished naturalists onboard. The guides are mainly local and offers great guidance to casual observers (us). However, if you are some avid animal enthusiasts I suspect you may find it a bit superficial
- the rooms and indoor areas are perfectly comfortable but you will smell something in any area not fully enclosed or air conditioned (enter the doorway). There are some wears and tears of the boat but nothing to be concerned of
- there will be bugs onboard so just be prepared. Kinda a package of the place
- there is a 10% suggested gratitude (give or take) of your booking value so just be prepared

Aqua Expeditions reviews
An incredible experience on the Amazon River! We did the 4-night expedition cruise on the Aria Amazon. It was a first-class trip that exceeded our expectations. The ship was luxurious and comfortable. The food was Michelin-star worthy and highlighted the bountiful flavors unique to the region. The crew could not have been more pleasant, eager to assist our every request and anticipated our needs. They had cold drinks and smiles waiting for us after hot days in the Amazonian sun, brought chilled towels during our jungle hike, and insect repellent and hand sanitizer always on the ready. Everything was included in the price (except alcohol, tips, and souvenirs - which is fair); it made travel planning so easy.
We saw so many Amazonian animals that the crew went through a long list after just the second full day. Mammals, birds, reptiles, insects - all in the wild and in their natural glory.
Our naturalists were incredibly knowledgeable of the animals, plants and region. They made the experience unforgettable, with their eagle eyes to spot animals, superpower quickness to catch predators for our education (and respectfully release them), and encyclopedic knowledge. They, and most (all?) of the crew, are from the local areas so their ability to educate us from their deep and personal understanding of the life, culture and people on the Amazon River was truly special. Their focus on sustainability was meaningful.
We were very pleased with our trip - and are eager to try Aqua Expeditions’ other cruise destinations.

Wow, what an ex-STREAM-ly memorable experience. I am one picky customer but I have nothing bad to say. My 4-day trip was so well planned, it really feels like they thought of everything.
The facilities look exactly like the photos - you can expect gorgeous common areas that are well-designed and extremely photogenic. Our room was spotless (I especially loved that they service the room three times a day!) with comfortable beds and a hot shower.
Our trip was filled with thoughtful touches like cold towels after excursions, complimentary rubber boots to simplify packing, abundant bug spray, and surprise refreshments just when you need it. I found the itinerary to be well-planned to cover a lot of ground but not at all exhausting.
The staff definitely makes the trip - I found every single person to be professional and friendly, full of smiles and ready to be of service. English was no problem at all but it was still fun to practice my poor Spanish with the crew. Special shout-out to the naturalist guides who were just so impressive - knowledgeable, personable, and all blessed with incredible eyesight.
It's all truly full service. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in experiencing the magic of The Amazon River.

We had an absolutely amazing time on our three-day trip from Nauta. We had the good fortune to spend our time with like-minded sorts looking to have our eyes opened to the beauty of our surroundings whilst being pampered in 5-star luxury, and I highly recommend it. I would also recommend a great pair of binoculars because those sloths a tricky fellows to spot!

Our July trip aboard the Amazon River Aria is certainly one that we will add to our top travel experiences. The small capacity boat carried 4 families during our journey in which we had 3 cabins. The cabins although they may have a slight musty smell to them are otherwise extremely clean and comfortable with beautiful floor to ceiling windows overlooking the River. The common spaces including the dining area, large bar/lounge area and outdoor lounge/jacuzzi area are beautiful. Our meals were exceptional and I even returned home with a copy of their cookbook after our outstanding Ceviche and Pisco class. One morning we had a catered lunch aboard our skiffs while watching pink dolphins swimming by that was not to be believed as a portable experience for 30 guests. The tour guides were truly exceptional and rivaled the best safari guides we have ever met making the adventure educational and entertaining. We were extremely impressed with their eco conscious approach especially the way in which we witnessed them continually give back to the local communities in an unobtrusive, empowering way. At one point a local family even waved us down to request some medicine from the onboard medic who was only to happy to oblige. This is definitely an experience to add to your bucket list!

Is piranha fishing available on the 4 night crusie? Or is that a separate excursion?
