About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Marcos C0 contributionsreserved zone manu parkWe took a tour to manu reserved zone. From day one , the management of logistis was very good. Ruth came to our hotel in Cusco and gave us a briefing along Fernando. As we mentioned our binoculars were rather small, they lent us a good pair. These people are local. They know the field, they know the land, history, geology and biology. Our guide, Saulo, has amazing birding and fauna spoting. He knows trees, bugs, birds and orchids. Our cook, Fortunato made very good food everyday from scratch, think best quinoa youd ever had and some fruits you most likely never tried before. The captain of the boat would slow down if you pointed your camera at something. Once again, they know the game. Accomodation is basic but comfy. Youll have a place to re charge phones and cameras and a place to chill. I specially enjoyed the humminbird lodge, where the landlord was a colorful bloke that pointed at some many things at once that it was overwhelming. Mind you, it was toucans, macaws , monkeys and trogons. ALL at once around the lodge. It was an amazing experience. Its the real amazonian rainforest. The 4 days are ok but you travel around the cultural zone and only by going deep into the reserved area can you truly see pristine jungle. Advise. Bring long sleeved shirts. Bugs abound. We saw wildlife from tiny to mighty. From scary to majestic, from mimetic to flamboyant. And Saulo kept poiting at yet something else...Written October 23, 2022
- Annelotte V0 contributionsAmazing Manu experience!!!We did a 6n/7d tour and it was one of the greatest things we ever did! Being so far away from any villages the jungle can be a scary place, but the crew (Fernando, our guide, Annibal our bonus guide, the magician chef Fortunatu, that could cook delicious meals in limited kitchen conditions , the boat drivers) was extremely professional and with deep respect to nature and wildlife. They did everything to make us feel comfortable and felt very responsible to make us happy. We saw a lot of animals (monkeys, spiders, snakes, capibara s giant otters, kaymen and many rare birds), but being inside such an incredible place already made us humble, just being there and listen to the overwhelming Amazone sounds and learn more about wildlife. We cannot thank Fernando and crew enough for all their efforts: we will never forget this special experience!Written October 9, 2022
- mhN7286BF0 contributionsAwesome tour deep in the Amazon forestWe did a 6 day tour in Manu with our guide Saulo. We were a group of 5 people and a couple joined us so we were 7 total. The trip was incredible, we saw many animals as Saulo is definitely the best at spotting them. The food was awesome, the crew so nice and always ready to help and teach us. Saulo was a well of knowledge and shared a lot with us. Thank you to all the team again 🙏🏻Written June 25, 2022
- J3250PNjamesm0 contributionsIncredible Amazon experienceA once in a lifetime experience with our incredible guide Fernando and his team. Myself and a friend had an unbelievable experience seeing all sorts of wildlife from Jaguars to Giant Otters and snakes in the Amazon. The food was great every day, despite being in the middle of the Amazon or being cooked on our boat. An exceptionally friendly and personal experience. Fernando and his team are all local to Manu and therefore their passion and knowledge was second to none. Myself and my friend were with one other couple and a crew of 4 including guide, making the experience very private and personal. I went into this trip not knowing what to expect but came away blown away by the Amazon and the experience I had with Fernando and his team. Fernando’s knowledge and passion for Manu National Park made the trip exceptional.Written May 21, 2022
- wl9860 contributionsBest Experience TravellingThe best experience I have ever had travelling. Booked a 6 day tour to Manu Reserved Zone. Fernando, Ruth and the team are a delight which made the whole trip bliss. Comfortable lodges and incredible food! The car and boat used to transport us into the jungle was very comfy. Fernando is one of the most delightful people I have ever met- his passion about the jungle is obvious and he passes his interest on to you. He was incredibly knowledgable about not just the jungle, but also the history of the area and the indigenous inhabitants. I have never been on a trip where the tour guide makes such a difference. I can see myself doing this exact same trip in a few years it was that good. Muchas Gracias! William from England.Written May 21, 2022
- Z6278NHalexk0 contributionsExcellent trip to the Pusharo PetroglyphsHave just returned from an absolutely wonderful tour to see the Pusharo Petroglyphs. First night was spent at the charming Eco Manu Lodge, near the tiny port of Atalaya, with a straight-forward journey by car and by boat on the next day to go and visit an extremely welcoming, kindly community of Matsigenka. From there we took a boat ride much further up, through the jungle, to visit the Petroglyphs themselves - an incredibly joyful, mysterious and personal experience. We felt very lucky to have Fernando as our guide and companion for the journey. Couldn't recommend highly enough!Written May 19, 2022

- miguelfV5519NC0 contributionsAmazing!!!We have been exploring the Amazonia for 4 days with Fernando....what an amazing guide!! Fernando is local so he know everything there is to know about animals, sounds, trees, smells, everything! The boat rides are amazing and the place where the lodge is located is beautiful! Fernando is very flexible and knew exactly what we needed every time, from resting to walk, explore and look for animals! The food was just incredible, some of the best we had in Peru (cheers Flora, great chef!), and the boat driver was so nice and helpful (kudos Pascoal)! It was an incredible experience, everything well organized and we had such a wonderful time with EcoManu Expeditions!Written July 18, 2021
- ettolrahc130 contributionsManu NationalparkWe booked two days in advance the five days tour to the Manu national park. We've met our tour guide at that day and he explained everything to us. We spent one day going into the jungle with many stops to learn about the different kinds of culture in that part of Peru. The next day, we spend a few hours with one of the community Ecomanu Expedition is supporting. We decided as group to bring some things for one of the families which were new in the community. They where so happy about a little bit of rice, salt, and sugar. We knew, that they had a few children and as we arrived we found out, that they were keeping a paar of twins, who's parents died. Because of the children we brought also a small football, which the father was so happy about. He showed us how to use the archer and how to make an arrow. The other three days we stayed at the lodge in the jungle. Around there we saw a lot of different kinds of animals. One night of the three we spend on a platform with just a mosquito net around us. In total we spend a wonderful time with lots of new experience with Ecomanu Expeditions.Written November 22, 2019
- charliedomek0 contributionsAmazing experience in nature! We did a 5 days Manu National Park tour and had a wonderful time! The organisation is great and our experienced guide is now like a friend to us! We saw a lot of birds and other small animals, but most important was the experience in the jungle. Sleeping on a platform one night trying to spot nightlife animals and listen to the pure nature! That gave us really peaceful and relaxing days! The whole organisation supports the local communities and tripes, which also gave us the trust to Ecomanu Experience!Written November 22, 2019
- Shimmeringenergy0 contributionsOutstanding tour!My husband and I are bird/nature photographers. We signed up with Ecomanu Expedition based on the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. The tour actually surpassed our expectations. Ruth made the trip registration very easy and was prompt to reply when we had questions. We were very impressed by the knowledge and expertise of our guide Symond throughout the entire trip. He was extremely dedicated, attentive and professional. Fernando demonstrated his excellent and safe driving skills on the numerous switchbacks of the road to Manu National Park. The food was delicious and the accommodations were very comfortable. Everyone involved made the trip a success. Thank you sincerely to Ecomanu Expedition for a great adventureWritten October 31, 2019
- bonnie Y0 contributionsUnique Jungle Wildlife ExperienceThis was the highlight of my Peru trip to be able to go deep into the jungle. Fernando had answers to all our endless questions about the animals and plants of the jungle. He even got certain medicinal plants to help some of the group's ailments. All the lodges we stayed at were really inside nature and that experience is priceless. The meals were great and catered to our liking. I especially enjoyed the night treks. I am glad we went for 10 days. The longer you are there the more you can start to vibe with nature.Written October 14, 2019
- aleta4590 contributionsMagical Jungle tourWe had the best time with Fernando and his team, we were looked after perfectly. 8 days of traveling deep into the wilderness. Adventures included because nature has its own ways which are not always predictabel. The waters were low at the Rio del Madre de Dios, we got off to push it over the ground sometimes, but plenty of water from above another day, there can be a lot of rain in the Rainforest.! Fernando took care of everything, he shared his great knowledge with us and answered patiently every question, and there where many. He helped Fotunato the cook preparing our meals, sometimes under difficult circumstances, like in the back of our boat. He collected herbs for a tea to help a friend to get better. Helped the boys with the luggage everytime we spent the night at a lodge and then back on board again the next morning. Fernando, you are a brave gentle man with a good sense of humour, to go on a trip with 8 woman.Written October 4, 2019
- Sonja M0 contributionsWonderful experienceThe Manu National Park was absolutely amazing, our guide - Fenardo made it just magical. He knew almost everything about the plants, the animals was so very kind and had a wonderful Staff of people who made fanatastic food and helped with everything. Nice, airy bungalows specially the eco Manu Lodge was our favourite you could lay down in Hammocks, being outside was a pleasure in the middle of the jungle; night trekks, swiming in the Madre de Dios river and all the beautiful nature made this trip one of the best experience in Peru.Written October 4, 2019
- GrandTour8219690 contributions4 wonderful days of expedition in Manu National ParkEco Manu Expedition definitely stood out for their amazing service! It is an authentic expedition into the heart of the Amazon where accommodation, food and guiding are above expectation. Fernando and Simon are amazing guides, full of knowledge and stories to share. They always made sure to adapt the trip to our interests, which in our case were edible and medicinal plants. They even made the effort to teach me how to do a Pachamanca just because I asked. There was a clear effort to making this adventure unforgettable. I recommend them 100% and I regret not having done the 8 days tour. I will come back for sure if I have the opportunity.Written October 1, 2019

This was honestly one of the best tours I’ve done while traveling EVER. I did the 7 day Manu reserve tour and it was an unforgettable experience. Every single person in the crew was not only incredibly kind but also insanely professional and knowledgeable. Especially our guide Fernando, who grew up in Manu national park and knows just about everything there is to know about it.
Manu is amazing, because it didn’t feel as touristic as puerto Maldonado. We slept in primitive lodges (in the best way) that really made you feel like you were in the middle of the jungle. EcoManu Expeditions have their own lodge which was lovely as well. We didn’t see many other tourist groups either and it was pretty much just us and our own group most of the time.
We saw a jaguar (!!), many tarantulas, capybaras and monkeys just to name a few. It was honestly amazing and I can’t recommend this tour enough. 7 days felt like too little!

After spending a lot of time searching for a truly unique tour operator in Cusco, one that stood apart from the typical "gringo travel" agencies, we finally discovered Ecomanu Expedition. We couldn’t have been more thrilled with our experience on the 4-day/3-night adventure to Manu National Park!
Our guide, Fernando, made every effort to show us as much of the jungle as possible. His dedication and passion were clear—he wasn’t just a guide; it felt like guiding us through the Amazon was his mission. Born and raised in the jungle, Fernando is not only deeply respected by the local community but also seems to know every person and every corner of this magical place. His wealth of knowledge is incredible. Having participated in many expeditions and projects (including a documentary film!), he shared countless fascinating insights about the jungle’s wildlife, flora, and hidden secrets.
What makes Ecomanu Expedition truly special is that it’s a small, family-run company. From the warm and talented cooks to the boat owner, every single person radiated joy and commitment in what they do. The sense of unity between the staff was evident, and the mutual respect they showed one another made us feel like part of the family.
The itinerary was also very flexible. Even when I fell ill for a day, Fernando immediately considered alternative routes and saved me with a tree bark infusion he prepared from the jungle—an act of true care and expertise.
If you’re looking for an authentic, deeply engaging experience in the Amazon, with a team that genuinely loves and respects the jungle, Ecomanu Expedition is the way to go. Don't waste your time looking for other options 🙂

We spent an extraordinary time with Fernando. Fernando knows the area like no other and can tell a lot about the jungle, land and people, animals and plants. It becomes clear that Fernando's passion is to give tourists insights into this unknown world. He responds to all wishes and needs. The food on the go thanks to a great chef and at the lodge was fresh, regional and typical of the country. Everything really outstanding!!

I went with a friend and it was spectacular. The activities we carried out included all the animals, plants, forests that we could see. Fernando, an A1 guide, always concerned about everyone and quite knowledgeable about the area. Their team also very helpful. I recommend this tour with closed eyes

My girlfriend and I had a 4D/3N Amazon tour. In summary, we would have chosen something else or another company, we didn’t see any animal and our guide Annibal was definitely not motivated to look for them. 800 dollars for a tour are a lot of money, company should supervise more their employees, their slogans (monkeys, sloths, tapirs, jaguars, anacondas…?!?!) and their plan.
1) PROs: my girlfriend got sick the night before leaving and the manager Ruth was super kind to let us change the plan and re-arrange the trip two days after without any additional costs.
2) CONs: in two full days in the jungle we had more spare time than activities. Our guide Annibal was doing the minimum required before going back to his room. At night he didn’t want to wait for the animals or doing any sounds to call them.
Same thing on the days during our walks, which were made really fast in order to finish soon. He was just interested into birds and pictures of birds.
There was an activity on the program to see the tapir clay lick and we didn’t go.
In two full days in the selva we just saw birds, some frogs and a couple of Tarantulas.
We know that animals are free in the selva so seeing them is hard, but if you don’t even try…

Sinceramente.

We booked this with only a week's notice, but communication was excellent from the outset, with quick WhatsApp replies to my messages and clear information as to what was needed. Fernando met us at Cuzco airport after an early flight from Lima and we spent the next four days with him and our expert driver Walter. They were both delightful, as was Ruth, our excellent cook who we met at the lodge on the first night and who catered wonderfully to our vegetarian diet. All three were really friendly and knowledgeable and - quite literally - went out of their way to make sure we saw what we wanted to see. Fernando and Ruth are both from little communities near the EcoManu lodge (which is comfortable) and know the area, its people and its wildlife really well. This local knowledge was invaluable and wherever we went it was obvious that Fernando was well known locally and well respected. Four days is all too short for a stay in Manu, but Fernando and Walter nonetheless ensured that we had a series of fantastic wildlife encounters. Hummingbird gardens and a jungle trek to the lodge's observation tower were memorable, but the highlights were an hour in the midst of a Cock-of-the-rock lek and spending time watching a Harpy Eagle at the nest, both lifelong ambitions. Thank you Fernando for making childhood dreams come true! I can't recommend him and his team highly enough.
