- 748williamenriquem0 contributionsNice experienceThe Rainbow Mountainday tour is a truly unique and breathtaking adventure. The trek to the summit offers stunning views of the colorful, striped peaks that make the site so famous. While the hike can be challenging due to the high altitude, the effort is well worth it once you reach the top and take in the panoramic views. The local guides are friendly and knowledgeable, sharing insights about the area's history and geology. Overall, it’s an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Highly recommended the gringo tours!Written February 8, 2025
- herryt20250 contributionsNice organization and kind team! The Rainbow Mountain trek was a truly awe-inspiring experience. The 2-day hike through the Andean highlands offered stunning views of snow-capped peaks, rolling hills, and the vibrant colors of the mountain itself. The trek's challenge lies in the high-altitude conditions, but the rewarding views at the summit are worth every step. The vibrant reds, purples, and greens of the mountain are unlike anything I've ever seen. Our guide was excellent, providing insights into local culture and history. The trek was physically demanding, but the sense of accomplishment and the surreal beauty of the landscape made it all worthwhile. Highly recommend for nature lovers and adventurers!Written February 7, 2025
- X2276OParianas0 contributionsWe enjoyed the 2 day tour to Machu Picchu & Sacred Valley of the IncasWe started the day with an early morning pick-up from Cusco, and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable from the get-go. The drive through the Sacred Valley was beautiful, with the majestic Andes surrounding us and the picturesque small villages dotting the landscape. Our first stop was Pisac, known for its impressive Inca ruins perched high on a mountain. The site was fascinating, with terraces that seem to cascade down the hillside, and the views from the top were breathtaking. We spent a couple of hours exploring the ruins, including the Sun Temple and a variety of agricultural terraces, learning about the Incas' advanced techniques. Next, we headed to Ollantaytambo, a charming town with its own set of ruins that served as both a fortress and religious center. The Ollantaytambo ruins were just as impressive, with giant stone structures and terraces that towered over the town. The site was less crowded than Pisac, which made it easier to appreciate the historical significance and the engineering genius of the Incas. The town itself is also worth wandering through—its narrow, cobblestone streets and traditional adobe buildings felt like stepping back in time. After a delicious lunch in Ollantaytambo, we boarded the train to Aguas Calientes, the town located at the base of Machu Picchu. The train ride was scenic, passing through lush valleys and alongside the Urubamba River. The comfort of the train made the journey relaxing, and the excitement of heading toward Machu Picchu started to sink in. Upon arriving in Aguas Calientes, we checked into our hotel, which was comfortable and conveniently located. The evening was free for us to explore the town. Aguas Calientes is small, with a laid-back vibe and several shops, restaurants, and cafes. We had a nice dinner, chatted about the day’s adventures, and rested up for the next day’s big visit to Machu Picchu. The next day, we were up early to catch the bus to Machu Picchu. The bus ride up is about 25 minutes of winding roads, and the anticipation builds as you get closer. Once we arrived at the entrance, it was time to experience the wonder of Machu Picchu. The site is truly jaw-dropping, and seeing it in person was even more incredible than I had imagined. Our guide took us through the main areas, explaining the history and purpose of various sections like the Intihuatana Stone (the Inca’s ritual stone) and the Temple of the Sun. The views from Machu Picchu are nothing short of magical, with towering green mountains all around. The sense of history and spirituality in the air was palpable, and it’s impossible not to be in awe of what the Incas accomplished. After the guided tour, we had some free time to explore on our own. You can wander around and take photos, or, if you're up for more adventure, you can hike up to the Sun Gate for panoramic views of the site and the surrounding mountains. Once we were done, we took the bus back to Aguas Calientes, had lunch, and then caught the train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by a drive back to Cusco. Lares Trip Company provide us a good team to visit Machu Picchu with the sacred valley.Written January 29, 2025

- inversioness4260 contributionsA transformative journey through the AndesThe Lares Trek to Machu Picchu was more than just a hike; it was a transformative journey that touched my soul and left an indelible mark on my heart. This 4-day adventure through the remote and breathtaking landscapes of the Peruvian Andes was an immersion into the rich cultural heritage of the Quechua people, a test of physical endurance, and a profound encounter with the natural world. From the moment our group assembled in Cusco, a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation filled the air. We were a diverse group, hailing from different corners of the globe, united by a shared thirst for adventure and a yearning to experience the magic of Machu Picchu. Our guide, Marco, a native Quechua with a warm smile and a wealth of knowledge, set the tone for the journey ahead, emphasizing the importance of respect, cultural sensitivity, and environmental consciousness. The first day of the trek took us through picturesque villages nestled amidst rolling hills and vibrant green valleys. We were greeted by curious children with rosy cheeks and shy smiles, women weaving intricate textiles on traditional looms, and men tending to their flocks of llamas and alpacas. The warmth and hospitality of the Quechua people were heartwarming, offering a glimpse into a way of life deeply connected to the land and their ancestral traditions. As we ascended higher into the Andes, the landscape transformed into a tapestry of rugged peaks, cascading waterfalls, and crystalline lakes. The air grew thinner, the trails more challenging, but the breathtaking scenery fueled our determination. Marco shared fascinating insights into the flora and fauna of the region, pointing out medicinal plants used by the Quechua people and identifying the soaring condors circling overhead. The campsites were strategically chosen, offering panoramic views that took our breath away. Falling asleep under a canopy of stars, with the Milky Way stretching across the inky black sky, was an experience that words cannot adequately describe. The silence was broken only by the gentle rustling of the wind and the occasional distant bleating of sheep. One of the most rewarding aspects of the Lares Trek was the opportunity to interact with the local communities. We visited remote villages where time seemed to stand still, sharing coca tea with families in their humble homes and learning about their traditional weaving techniques. The children were particularly curious, eager to practice their English and share their laughter with us. These encounters were a powerful reminder of the human connection that transcends cultural differences. The physical challenge of the trek was undeniable. We traversed steep mountain passes, navigated rocky trails, and crossed gushing streams. There were moments when my legs burned, my lungs ached, and I questioned my ability to continue. But the support and encouragement of my fellow trekkers, the unwavering positivity of Marco, and the sheer determination to reach Machu Picchu kept me going. The final day of the trek was filled with anticipation. As we approached the Sun Gate, the iconic entrance to Machu Picchu, a collective gasp of awe echoed through the group. The sight of the ancient city, bathed in the golden light of dawn, was breathtaking. Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the magnitude of what we had accomplished. Exploring Machu Picchu with Marco was like stepping into a living museum. He explained the function of each structure, from the Temple of the Sun to the Royal Tomb, weaving captivating stories about the Inca emperors, their rituals, and their ingenious architectural feats. I was awestruck by the precision of the stonework, the intricate terraces, and the ingenious water management systems. The Lares Trek was more than just a physical challenge; it was a journey of self-discovery. I learned to appreciate the simplicity of life in the Andes, the resilience of the human spirit, and the profound connection between humans and nature. I returned home with a renewed sense of gratitude, a deeper appreciation for the beauty of our planet, and a heart filled with memories that will last a lifetime. The Lares Trek is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Inca civilization and the breathtaking beauty of the Peruvian Andes. It is a journey that challenges, inspires, and transforms. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone seeking adventure, cultural immersion, and a profound connection with the natural world. - 967maritav0 contributionsThey taxi service was outstanding in every way!We used them nearly every day because they were all courteous and trustworthy. Highly dependable and came promptly! Lares Trip company makes you feel like family or a friend as they drive you around with care, and we would suggest them to anyone traveling in a group. Still, we recommend them if you are traveling alone because they treat you like family or a friend as they drive you around! Along the way, we also acquired some new information and facts that improved our ability to comprehend the culture. The most reliable taxi service in Cusco City! They can take your reservation for the cab you'll be using. Because the drivers were always knowledgeable about the best routes, we could get to our location within the allotted time. In addition, the vehicles were spotless and well-maintained at all times, making for a pleasant and pleasurable journey every time. It would be impossible for me to offer this taxi service a higher recommendation; they go out of their way to provide their clients with excellent service. Thanks to Richard and Lares trip for their time!Written June 4, 2024
- JohnB55390 contributionsA great way to see Machu Piccu but a few small issuesFirstly this was an amazing tour, the local guide was brilliant. However there were a few issues which prevented 5 stars. Firstly this was advertised as a 10 hour tour but in reality started 1 hour earlier and was due to end 3 hours later than stated on the booking. This was only communicated to me at 7pm the evening before too late to change other travel arrangements. Also transfer from hotel to Inca Rail office never arrived but hotel found taxi for me. To be honest the issues including the return train breaking down did not ruin an amazing experience but could distress a more nervous traveller.Written March 20, 2024
- 863draganf0 contributionsDo not take this tourThe car driver did not show up for drop off which was part of the schedule. The tour company send WhatsApp message saying ‘we will take a train’ ‘we will take a van’ - there was nobody from the company at the bus station and train station - I had to deal with that on my own. The tour lasted only 2.5 hours. The tour guide had broken English and was hard to understand. The data that tour guide provided were very basic - you can learn more about Machu Picchu by watching a short YouTube video. The trip is also way overpriced - you can go around main square in Cusco there are main travel agencies and tours cost $220.Written January 14, 2024
- zenobios7090 contributionsThe Rainbow Mountain hike - a must-seeThe Rainbow Mountain trek was the most beautiful valley we’ve ever seen in oye life. Our tour guide came to pick us up at the hotel on time and ran everything perfectly. Despite bouts of rainy weather, he timed things so we summited with the sun. The altitude is a real factor here so to help you, the guide gave everyone a nice Jasmin spray to open up our nasal passage and some extra coca pick me up. We had all the usual symptoms of altitude sickness - headache, pressure in the eyes, feeling weak and despite all that I made it because the tour guide was patient and encouraging. I’d say you need 2-3 days of acclimatization before you even think of attempting this - it’s over 16,500ft and roughly 7km or 3 miles return. Even with a tiny elevation gain of 338m/1200ft, you’ll feel it. If you can’t get physically do it, you can rent a horse to take you as well. Along the way are many benches and stops, a bathroom (2 soles), and snack vendors. This is an absolute must-see area if you’re in Peru. Highly recommend this local company and our tour guide,George.Written December 25, 2023
