    Machu Picchu
    Stop: 3 hours
Machu Picchu, which in Spanish means “old mountain”, is the most famous Inca citadel in the world. Located 110 km northeast of Cusco, in the province of Urubamba. This architectural gem is surrounded by temples, platforms and water channels. In order to visit Machu Picchu, Inca Rail has three starting points: The San Pedro stations in Cusco, Poroy and Ollantaytambo from which you can board the train of your choice bound for the Machu Picchu Pueblo station. It also offers its Bimodal service which combines a trip on the exclusive bus, starting from Av. El Sol 843, near the Plaza de Armas to Ollantaytambo to board the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo. The Bimodal service is available all year round. Between January and April it is suggested to leave with the Bimodal service, because due to weather conditions, it will not be possible to leave from the San Pedro and Poroy train stations.

Take the train it’s great! There’s no cell service and no wifi so keep that in mind. Seats are small and you will face another random pair which can be awkward lol but the views were AMAZING!

Don’t take the Bus—That was terrible. $25 Taxi from Ollaytaytambo to Cusco—wish we had just taken the taxi. Bus has plastic sheets up for COVID and is super uncomfortable.

We took the Voyager train from the Ollantaytambo station to Aguas Calientes. The 1 hour 15 minute ride was beautiful. You are able to take pictures from the train as you go. The complimentary snack and Inca tea they served was actually very good. We had a delicious quinoa salad which came as a complete surprise. You do have to mind your hot drinks as others have mentioned, but totally manageable. Great ride and service going back as well. They even came around with a free Pisco shot and some chocolate. Nice touch.

Friends and I took the Machu Picchu train from Agua Calientes to Machu Picchu. The views are spectacular and the seats comfortable but we took the first class Peru Rail from Puno to Cusco and it was a whole other experience with added perks and made the trip more of a special event. Highly recommend the train ( the only other way in is to trek)

We just completed our trip to Machu Picchu using Inca Rail all-inclusive tickets. It was an amazing and very stress free experience. The all inclusive ticket includes round trip train from Ollytantambo, bus to MP, ticket into MP, tour guide to take you through MP, and even a bus that takes you back to Cusco and drops you at your hotel.

We were nervous after booking because we didn’t have specific times for MP but once you check in, they will give you info. They also find you on the train to make sure you know everything you need. They meet you after you get off the train and walk you to your hotel in Agues Calientes! Our tour guide, Hugo, met us in our hotel the next morning, and walked us to the bus. He stayed with us all the way through MP and offered wonderful insights into the history of MP. He took endless pictures for us and knew all the best places. He truly helped us have a better day in MP.

The train and even the bus ride back to Cusco were breath taking. It was a wonderful experience and having Inca Rail personnel there to help guide us really took the stress out of everything. Thank you!

Because of the COVID pandemic we had to cancel our trip planned for May 2020. Incarail offered a Travel Voucher to be used until 2022 but we have been requesting the refund since Jan 2021. Incarail said I should not be worried, they would pay the refund starting on 09May2021 and we are waiting for it until now. It has been almost 2 years and they didn't give my money back. They are answering our e-mails with an "automatic" message: "We apologize for the issue and we ask for a little more time and patience. We will soon be proceeding with your pending request"

As many here have already said: do not travel with Incarail.

I will update if I have news about this situation.

Would highly recommend using Inca Rail - the waiting room in Ollantaytambo has tea, coffee, wifi and power. On board the Voyager was comfortable with toilets and snacks to buy if you want them.

We returned to Ollantaytambo on the 360 - there was no real difference in the windows but the service quality was a lot higher - sandwich box, drinks, band on board and a viewing carriage. If it’s a similar price, I’d recommend booking it but it really doesn’t matter otherwise for such a short trip. No dedicated waiting area at Machu Picchu Puebla but I don’t think PeruRail has one either.

As it’s the wet season, we had to change to the bus to go back to Cusco. There were staff waiting with signs and there was lots of guidance to make sure we got to the right bus. They even seemed to wait for quite a while for no shows. On return to Cusco we were dropped at the Inca Rail office. While it’s a bit out of the way, even at 8:30pm it was so busy and heaps of taxis etc.

Don’t go with Inca Rail! Go with Peru Rail!

I had train tickets to me and a friend from Poroy to Machu Picchu, scheduled to depart on 01/06/20. Due to the pandemic, I asked for cancellation of the tickets on April 28th, and a refund, as their Terms and Conditions allowed me to. They offered me a voucher, and then I replied asking for the refund. After a long time, in their last reply on June 2nd, they insisted on offering the voucher. But we don’t want the voucher, we want the refund, as it’s written on their Terms and Conditions.
I don’t recommend anyone who wants to go to Machu Picchu in the future to buy tickets from Inca Rail. You should definitely buy tickets from Peru Rail, because we had the same problem with them, and they gave us a full refund of the tickets very quickly.

I took the Voyager by Inka Rail on my way to Ollantaytambo from Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes), the train was very noisy, the snack was very poor, the smoke came into the train and made my trip very uncomfortable, also the train was very old and it shakes a lot, compared to its competitor (Peru Rail - Vistadome) the Inka Rail needs to improve a lot. The ticket should be 1/3 the actual cost.

To conclude with, we were a family of 4 and the train seats were located in disarray, we had to organize with other passengers to sit together. There was no one inside the train by the staff to help organize the passengers.

We traveled with our 21 month old from Ollataytambo to Machu Picchu in January 2021. We brought our Osprey Poco Child Carrier (backpack). We were concerned that they wouldn't allow it because it is slightly larger than what is allowed for luggage. However, we didn't have any problems and it fit fine under the seat. The staff was very nice and the train was clean. Masks and face shields were required for adults and older children. Obviously there was an exception for young children.

The train is a ridiculously overpriced service foreigners are forced to take because they are not allowed to use the local service.

The whole trip to MP is tainted by getting screwed over by exorbitant prices the whole way.

Please abandon this practice.
